The Sens opened the home preseason schedule in style with an overtime victory in front of more than 16,000 fans at Scotiabank Place.

Mika Zibanejad ripped a one-timer past Tuukka Rask to give the Sens a 2-1 overtime victory over a team dressed up as the Stanley Cup Champions and in the process picked up their first win of the preseason.

After a long summer, NHL hockey returns to Scotiabank Place tonight.

It's still just preseason hockey but it will be a good test for the Sens as they take on the defending Stanley Cup Champion, Boston Bruins, who will be without Zdeno Chara.  Puck drops just after 7:30 PM.

As I mentioned on Twitter earlier this morning, the Ottawa Senators have begun the process of trimming down their training camp roster and sent six players back to their junior teams.

Jordan Fransoo, Jakub Culek, Stefan Noesen, Matt Puempel, Mark Stone and Matej Machovsky are among the first group of cuts.

The Sens opened up the preseason schedule in Toronto tonight and at times, looked like a team that hadn't played a hockey game in a few months.

The Leafs were the better team for the majority of the night and a sloppy Senators team struggled to find their skating legs in the opener  Not the best start but it sure was nice to sit down to watch a hockey game!

(UPDATE 1:22 PM)- Just hours before his first preseason game, Mark Stone has signed an entry level deal with the Senators.  He will suit up on a line with Michalek and Zibanejad tonight in Toronto.

Went down to Toronto with some friends to catch a couple Jays games and was not able to update the site while I was away.  Back in Ottawa now though and ready to get down to business, with the preseason opener set to go tomorrow night.

The Ottawa Senators have announced the names of the 59 players that will be invited to this year's camp. 

Not many surprises among the group that will include 6 goalies, 16 defenceman and 37 forwards.  All of the players from this year's rookie tournament will also be at the main camp.

For the second straight year, the Ottawa Senators have won their annual rookie tournament and continue to show fans just how bright the future is for this hockey team.

With a dramatic overtime win last night over the rival Leafs, the Sens finished this year's tournament with a 3-0 record, while showing a significant skill advantage over their opponents in each game.
