Waiting on Schultz

While the rest of the league awaits the opening of free agency tomorrow at noon, the Sens find themselves in pursuit of one of the most sought after players on the market.

The Ottawa Senators have been courting NCAA free agent Justin Schultz and today it sounds as though they may in fact be one of the finalists.  The Edmonton Oilers are the other team believed to be in the thick of things.

Yesterday we learned that the Ottawa Senators are one of at least six teams that have found their way onto a short list to land highly touted free agent Justin Schultz.

The Sens organization will have their chance to make their official pitch today in Toronto.  It is believed that Ottawa is among the last teams that will speak with the defenceman before he makes his decision.  Schultz can't officially sign until July 1.

CBA Talks Begin Friday

With all the excitement around Karlsson’s Norris win, the Rick Nash rumours and landing 67’s star Cody Ceci at the Draft, Sens fans have been able to numb out the impending doom that lingers on the league’s horizon.

The NHL and the NHLPA require a new CBA and the initial speculation from experts suggests that it will be anything but a straightforward process.  The two sides are expected to begin formal negotiations in New York City on Friday.

Chasing Schultz and Other Notes

After Tim Murray took to the air waves yesterday and declared an interest in defenceman Justin Schultz, fans are a buzz with the possibility of adding a 21 year old impact defenceman to the organization.

Murray explained that the Senators are one of what he believes is 3-5 teams with a real shot at landing the coveted free agent.  There are obviously other teams that are going to be pushing hard to land Schultz but it’s a great sign that the Sens feel as though they are in the mix.

(UPDATE 1:23 PM)- On to the second thread of the day as we surpass the 300 comment mark. Scott Howson spoke with the media at the draft and suggested that there is still a ways to go on any deal involving Rick Nash. Stress again the importance of not always taking the words of a GM on Draft Day at face value. So much posturing going on right now.
