While the Ottawa Senators do have a clear need for help on the back end, and even though Bryan Murray has been fairly vocal about his desire to add another defenceman, I was told late this afternoon that the chances of Redden returning to the Nation's Capital are extremely low and boardering on non-existent.
On the surface, you can see why some fans may have an interest. Redden was always a solid player for this organization and the possibility of bringing back a fan favourite to hit the 1,000 game milestone is an interesting storyline.
But it just doesn't make sense for the team right now. Redden hasn't played an NHL game in more than two seasons and is a little long in the tooth at age 35. Add to that the fact that Murray has gone public with his support of Patrick Wiercioch and you can see why this isn't a move the Sens are dying to make.
A couple local media have also quickly poured water on the idea of a Redden return here, here and here.
The good news is Redden will get a chance to return to the NHL and will be able to hit that important 1000 games milestone.
It's just not going to be here in Ottawa.
Haha and I rarely do! Getting pretty definitive indication on this one though.
Fair enough. I'd just prefer a familiar face - veteran signing over "just some plug player".
Wiercioch is the defenceman of the future for this team & has been playing well in Bingo. He has NHL size at 6'4", can skate well & will contribute to the offence. He just has to learn to play better defensively, after all he can't be worse defensively than Gonchar, can he? Well he's young & he can learn to be better defensively. Let's go with him.
If Wiercioch falters there is always Boroweicki who can also play with Gonchar & probably be better defensively. Both are better options than Redden. Then there is Ceci who is probably two yrs away & Gryba who could be ready anytime.
Have you had the chance to watch the practices?
What is your opinion thus far?
If you have the chance, could you (or someone "qualified") do a quick review?
Go SENS Go
Ceci and Noesen didn't look anywhere near NHL ready. They had a hard time keeping up with the pros out there. Obviously inviting them to camp was to give them a taste of what to expect and some added incentive to work and train hard for next season and no one really expected them to make the team.
Some other observations: Hoffman was solid, Silfverberg appears ready for prime time, Methot is a beast, and the skill possessed my Spezza and Karlsson is simply out of this world.
Several players do charitable initiatives nowadays, but back in the days there was only one WADE'S WORLD, and I'll never forget about that until the day that I die.
Good luck Wade I hope you can find a good home and have an impact and go out on somewhat of a high note!
You can have your team auto drafted. There is also an option to set your player rankings ahead of time to make sure certain players are a priority.
How do you have it auto drafted?
I have nothing against him and wish him the best and if he can get a spot in the NHL and do decent to well in order to go out on a high note then all the power too him.
It is just not in the cards nor a good idea for Ottawa. Yes, we have a bit of an issue with a thin defense right now but the young guys deserve the chance they are getting and it would be a slap in the face to bring redden in.
That and I truly believe the young guys we have are way better options.
P.S. NorCal, go approve my waiver lol
By not being there when we draft, you will be autdrafted.
Got in...did decently last year, 2nd place I believe
No we would be better to unload Anderson and run with
Lehner
Bishop
Do not trade either of these guys yet...I think I am one of few who wants to see us keep all three right now, but if we "have to" move someone I say let Lehner and Bishop battle for the top spot.

I also suspect that moving Anderson will potentially get us a better return right now.
On the flip side, why would we trade the first goalie we have had in years that provides us with consistent play, and the ability to "steal games" that sens fans have always asked for.
Right decision is to keep all 3 for this year and make a trade at the end of season. My 2cents
joined the pool,see ya there!
Lehner/Bishop are close but in my opinion, turning over the reigns to two young goalies would be a mistake.
I say stand pat with the 3 goalies for a few weeks and let it play out. Trading Anderson now would be a mistake. I don't think we would get enough in a trade anyways without leaving another hole
Stay tuned for details!
What I hope will happen is that Lehner will help Bingo secure a playoff spot. They're going to need him down there with the loss of Silfverberg and one or two of their top defensemen. While Lehner dominates down in the AHL, Andy will be the starter in Ottawa with Bishop getting enough games to help his trade value come the trade deadline.
Then hopefully at the deadline we can package Bishop in a deal to bring in an impact player or at least the 2nd round pick that we gave up for him. When we deal Bishop at the deadline, Lehner will come up to back up Andy down the stretch and into the playoffs.
Agree with you Chirp !!
Craig Anderson was the reason we qualified for the Playoffs last year. He has this year, plus another 2 seasons left on his $3.187,000. contract, and he is our #1 goalie.
Bishop is at $650,000 for this year only.
Lehner will become our #1 in 2 years or less, depending on Anderson's play. Bishop will be traded at the end of this
year ! We are still re-building and we need Anderson !
...and we have a winner!
I fackin love that idea. I love the press box. I will try to steal all of Bruce Garrioch's food from him. Oh boy, he'll get SO mad! That guy loves his food!
Go fuckin Sens

LMAO !
Not to mention we need him to start for at least another year.
-Bishop + forward prospect (take your pick from Hoffman Z-bad, Puemple, prince, Pageau)
for 3-4 defencemen.
Not sure if you were joking but here is my guess...
Zibanejad + Bishop or 3rd/4th line player with upside.
Phoenix obviously were happy to get him. Not to mention he did well in the AHL 20 some points in 32 games and plus 2.
Trading back for him would make management look bad but hey, crazier things have happened. I wouldn't do it either. Rundblad will be a first pairing D, but with somebody defensibly reliable. Can't find that in Ottawa right now and certainly could not put him on a line with Karlsson.
If somebody shits the bed or Anderson gets attacked by frozen chicken again being able to bring up Lehner or Bishop who will have been playing regularly in Bingo would be very useful.
Unless trading one of the goalies (and I think it should be Bishop) gets back a genuine top 3-4 defenceman like Leddy of Hjalmarsson at the moment we should wait. Let's see what the Bingo blueliners can do and move Bishop at the deadline.
All 48 games televised. No problems on that front this year!
How's the golf game coming along? Hope you're getting some training in during the off season :)
Not to put too much weight to that but... HA HA!
Going to try and do one tonight but it may not be until late. Hoping to make it out to the season ticket holder event tonight.
we already have our own SC Peluso... and there is no one in the league today tougher than our own Mullet Head Peluso...Tell'e m Pelusssssoooo!! !!!
Have to disagree chirp, a 2.83GAA (3 SO in 63GP is pretty poor too) is not what got this team in the playoffs and would be very easy to replicate through another goalie. Lehner would have gotten us in guaranteed. I remember when people were as high on Gerber as they are on Anderson now.
Interested in the fantasy league if u make a 2nd one.
Do you honestly feel his numbers tell the whole story?
We have never had depth in nets, and from a long standing Sens fan, we have had plenty to bitch about in our goalies.
Lalime (god bless him, but he had the best team in the NHL at the time in front of him, and he could not help us past the leafs... still brings tears to my eyes)
Martin Garbage ( I still wake up in cold sweats thinking about "throw back everything" in nets)
Emery ( Finally a goalie with more balls than James Bond, but now brains to back it up, and fizzled in the wee hours of the morning )
Leclaire ( many of us were sold on this trade, but only to be broken hearted once again )
Finally Anderson, and for those of us who have seen most of the games last year, he had questionable defence in front of him when the season started, he did singlehandedly, win us enough games to get us into the playoffs, and take a very strong team, with arguably the best goalie in the NHL in Lunquist, and duelle him to 7 games.) not sure how we can question that?
So we have a very legit NHL Goalie in Andy, with a potentially strong backup project in Bishop, who will be happy with whatever amount of games he gets ( would Lehner be?).
Lehner, as long as the communication to him is very clear that he has won the future starting goalie position with the team, must go down for the good of the team to start the season.
If our starter faulters or gets injured, up he comes as the starter here. This is a very short season, and he will get his games up here, while keep sharp in the minors.
Next year one of Anderson or Bishop is gone, and in comes our future rock star as the starter... IMO only of course
Do you honestly feel his numbers tell the whole story?
The win streak at the turn of the year from 2011-2012 was what got us in the playoffs and Anderson's play is the reason we had that win streak. Hard to say Anderson's play wasnt key, along wiht Karlsson and SPezza, in getting the Sens into the playoffs.
Best case scenerio is that Anderson and Bishop carry the load this year, one of them gets traded at the deadline or off season for a great return Lehner comes up to split the load next year and begin his reign of dominance for years to come.
I don't think you get top value for Anderson or Bishop by trading them now to make room for Lehner. He can take his lumps in the minors for another couple months like every other goalie does.
If somebody shits the bed or Anderson gets attacked by frozen chicken again...
haha!
yes he did put in some quality time here, for whatever reason, his career has quickly spiralled down at a very young age.
Sorry I cannot feel any sympathy for someone who has had the priveledge of playing 15 years in the NHL, made more that over 50 Million dollars, and let himself fall apart like he has.
Redden I thank you for you early years in Ottawa, you were excellent at times, and had some great memories, but the cinderella story of coming here for your 1000 game, really does not fit our current team right now, and you could not help us as much as our young d-men can, and they now deservet the shot that Redden had when he came into the league
Did you seriously just type that? Funny how people all have that friend of a friend that told them what they heard from a friend of another friend.
Unless your buddies with certain Sens players or you actually saw them do it, then go speculate that kind of crap elsewhere.
If I were Murray, I would offer Redden a two-way contract providing the opportunity to retire a Senator if he can't get a contract elsewhere. I would also give him the chance to play in the six games to get to 1000. Show the players in the league that this team takes care of its players (once a Senator, always a Senator); give him the chance to retire with the team that he helped to make great.
Maybe he shows that he still has game, maybe he doesn't. At least you gain a bit of respect from players that might not otherwise consider Ottawa as a destination of choice.
The force is strong with you young padawan. A jedi you will soon become.
