Full details on the offer were not immediately available but it apparently calls for a maximum contract length of six years or seven when you are signing your own players.
LeBrun says that NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly would not confirm the news this morning but that certainly doesn't mean it should be dismissed. I'm sure we'll hear more about this over the next 48 hours.
He takes a lot of heat at times but it looks like Eklund may have had this news earlier this morning and suggests that the two sides may actually meet at some point today. Hockey in January. It's coming.
I sure hope you're right. Watching Spezza yesterday at the Spengler Cup, made me want to see those saucer passes at SBP even more.
GO SENS GO!!!!
it. I'm dying to see NHL hockey. Go Sens Go!
Nah I don't think there will be any negotiation on this one. It is and should be a take it or leave it type of deal. If this one doesn't work for the players, that's it. Pack it in.
Goaltending has been Canada's downfall the last few years and this year it doesn't look to be any better.
Kypreos just tweeted that the latest offer is not close to getting a deal done and that the NHLPA is working on a counter. Guess we will find out soon enough.
Hard to grow a league whecn fans no longer respect the performers...
As I've believed all along, we'll have hockey this year!
"Implementation of a weighted Draft Lottery in which all non-Playoff teams compete for opportunity to choose first overall in the annual Draft."
Yep.
Thoughts?
Quoting AllStarAlfie:
Just read the NHL offer on TSN, and it will be replied to later today, after the players are made aware of this offer.
Conference Call will follow, with NHLPA reply !!
Training Camps to open Jan 4th or 11th ?????????????
I think the players will want a shorter term CBA and will try to get the contract limits up one more year. They also won't like the idea of the player buyout coming out of their share.
The NHLPA believes in Fehr... he has been telling them to hold off when an offer is made.. saying a better one will come.. and he has been right.
But at some point.. the better offer will not come.. and time is running out.
The NHL (Owners) are proving they want a season.. It's time for the NHLPA to put up or shut up. If they really want to play.. they will make a realistic counter proposal that helps to get a deal done.
Twice during this lockout my hopes have been high that they were close to a deal... only to have them dashed.. I don't want to get that way again.
It will end in about 3 weeks.. either with a lost season or with the teams on the ice.
BTW - B-Sens tied 1-1 with Albany at the end of the 2nd period. Schneider for Bingo (Weircioch with another assist.. what a season he is having) and the Butler for Albany... Lehner in net.. They are being outshot 25-14. The first period.. the B-Sens had a grand total of 2 shots. Rihardson has to get these guys prepared to play from the drop of the puck...
HayesTSN: Not surprisingly, the PA is sending out a message that the NHL's offer isn't going to cut it. They know the owners have to get a deal done.
1)
players have consistently complained about not getting anything in return for concessions although I never recall them specifically asking for anything which makes it a guessing game for the NHL. This proposal seems to try and offer up some new feel good incentives for the players- (thank goodness their per diem will continue to go up...)
2)
-it's only a mater of time before the NHL expands oversees, I've thought this for a long time and wondered if this lockout would somehow further solidify interest -implementation of the international committee
3)
The new weighted lottery (which by the way I love) should be referred to as the Oilers draft rule, too bad it's 3 years late...
4)
It pisses me off that some of the wealthier teams can buy their way out of mistakes next year but I get it. Should be fun thinking of what that list will look like, I'm looking at you Scott Gomez
5)
I like the interview period they've set for UFA's. it just makes sense...
7)
I dont know how they'd make the leap to a cap of 60 million within one year given that there are 16 teams above that currently. The one time buyout certainly helps but they'll need to bump this figure up to 65 million to make it work. (That would leave 6 teams over the limit)
If the union doesn't counter with something that is close to what has been proposed, buckle your seatbelt, this league is toast.
Drop the puck January 19th or sooner!
In 6 games he has 6 goals, 3 assists
I think he's adjusted
F
You are stupid!
I think the PA will try to get the contract term another year longer. They will want to shorten the CBA length and they will want an increase on the variance. They will also try to get a higher cap next season.
It's up to Fehr and the NHLPA to make a 'whole' counter-offer.. not bits and pieces that they have reportedly done in the past. I think if it is not an entire offer.. the Owners will be done. Nothing more will come from them -- it will result in a cancelled season.
There is a settlement to be done here. The Owners have moved.. it's time the PA do the same thing. Prove to us they want to play.. and get this settled...
