With another BSens win in the books, we once again turn the floor over to Don Rieber for his take on last night's contest. The floor is yours, Mr. Rieber...
Da Costa Returns to B-Sens with a Bang
Stephane Da Costa played his first game since early in the season on Sunday and took no time at all to knock off the rust. Da Costa netted a hat trick and added an assist, in Binghamton’s 5-2 win over the East Division leading Syracuse Crunch.
“I was nervous for sure, I tried to keep it simple,” he said after the game. “It was a team effort and a great game for us.”
Binghamton coach Luke Richardson was glad to see the hard work pay off for Da Costa.
“He had a couple setbacks physically from the end of the summer till now, but he worked his butt off and I’m really happy for him,” he said. “He got a chance to get in there and use his skills at full capacity, which is probably the first time he felt like that all year.”
Binghamton did not score as early on Sunday as they have in the last couple games, but they did score first, which has served them well during their current eight-game win streak.
“I think we have a great group of guys who listen and want to learn,” said Richardson, when asked what he thought the key was to the streak. “It’s a credit to the guys. They work hard on the ice and I think through the month of November, it’s the consistency of their play and mentally they’re a strong group, they love to play and together and win together.”
Da Costa's night could've been even bigger, had he converted on his first chance. He was denied on the doorstep with about 11 minutes left, by Syracuse goaltender Dustin Tokarski on a B-Sens power-play. He got another chance when Shane Prince rang one off the post. He scooped up the rebound and put it home. With that, Binghamton was in front with 9:37 to go in the first. Prince earned the only assist.
Ben Bishop started his second consecutive game between the pipes for Binghamton and stopped 21 of 23 shots. One he was unable to corral came off the stick of Tyler Johnson, early in the B-Sens second power-play. Johnson passed the puck to Ondrej Palat, who gave it back to Johnson. He beat Bishop, who was caught out of position.
This marked the second consecutive game that the B-Sens gave up a short-handed goal. They had not allowed one in their previous 16 contests.
B-Sens defenseman Mark Borowiecki was forced to drop the gloves with 2:29 left in the period, when he and Radko Gudas went into the boards on what should have been an icing call. Syracuse winger Pierre-Cedric Labrie took exception and both got fighting majors. It was the start of a busy night for Borowiecki.
The first period ended with the score tied 1-1 and Binghamton leading 9-8 in shots.
Binghamton (12-4-1-1) regained the lead 3:35 into the second period on a nice feed from behind the Syracuse net by Cole Schneider, to Da Costa, making it 2-1. It took 5:09 to expand that lead as Jakob Silfverberg sniped one from the circle, beating Tokarski to make it a two goal game. Pat Cannone and Borowiecki claimed the assists.
That goal was on the heels of a big glove save moments earlier from Bishop, on Cory Conacher.
Syracuse (13-5-1-1) was able to close the gap with 1:51 to go in the second, as Danick Gauthier juked a Binghamton defender and beat Bishop to make it 3-2.
A late slashing call against Conacher meant that Binghamton would carry 1:42 of power-play time into the third period. They were unable to capitalize.
Syracuse mistakes were the story of the third period and they started early. Penalties against Labrie for slashing and J.P. Cote for interference, meant the B-Sens had 1:19 of 5-on-3 power-play time with 15:53 left. Cote argued and was assessed a 10-minute misconduct as well.
Mike Hoffman had a few good chances for Binghamton early in the sequence, but Tokarski shut the door, as he would for the entire sequence.
Binghamton’s Tyler Eckford has been playing well as of late and just missed a scoring chance off the post with 8:39 to go. He was picked up six seconds later when Patrick Wiercioch let one rip off the face-off, beating Tokarski clean to make it a 4-2 game.
Da Costa’s third goal of the night came 37 seconds later, on a feed from Prince. B-Sens captain Andre Benoit picked up the secondary helper.
From there, frustration set in for Syracuse, who was playing their third game in three nights. With 1:31 seconds left, Eric Neilson came on the ice with some bad intentions. He took Borowiecki down to the ice pounded away on him. Borowiecki really had no chance with his face planted in the ice and the linesmen, despite their best efforts, struggled to restrain Nielson.
When the dust settled Borowiecki got to his feet and took a fighting major with him. For his troubles, Neilson was assessed a roughing minor, fighting major, a 10-minute misconduct and a game misconduct.
“I think he was just trying to make up for a few plays earlier,” Borowiecki said of Neilson. “I didn’t really see it coming, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. “When you get a reputation guys come looking for you, it comes with the territory. For me in the future, be aware in a situation like that and try to protect myself a little more.”
“They got off their game a little bit when we got the score up on them,” said Richardson. “It’s going to be an intense rivalry, they are a good team and we expect to have a lot of good battles against them all year.”

Thanks for your patience during this process!
“It is a big disappointment that Ottawa does not want to release Mika to join the team for the World Juniors,” said Rönnberg. “I have asked our federation to intervene and I am confident they will. Having said that, I must focus on the players I have and I can’t let that [Ottawa not releasing Zibanejad] steal energy from my work.”

Thanks! The new guy is a good friend and really good at this kind of stuff. Seems to have some cool ideas on how to spruce things up a little.
Thanks for bringing my post over too! Also wanted to add:
Gonchar Mettalurg KHL:
26 GP 2 G 15 A 17 Pts.
Murray stated that they'd rather keep him here so that he can continue adjusting to the North American game. There's no benefit in him going over to Russia and playing on a bigger rink.
Word from Richardson was a "little banged up" but ok.
There were some Twitter based rumours that suggested Lehner may have been hurt going through a window or something, but those were nothing more than rumours.
Let's be honest, Mika isn't exactly tearing it up in the AHL and could really benefit from every game he plays for Bingo. Even missing a couple weeks to play in the World Jr's, I could see even that setting him back a bit in terms of focus as well as the level of play/ice surface.
Ballsy call by BM, but that's why he has his job and we have ours.
Go BSENS Go!!!
Really loving the depth in this ORG!
given the caliber of this tournament especially this year with the lockout, i stilll think there's value in sending Zibby. I dont disagree with Murray's decisions often but this one doesnt sit right with me.

The Caliber of the tournament has not increased much, the only difference is that RNH is going to play, otherwise Huberdeau, Strome, Hamilton, Scheifele, have already played last year.
Yakupov and Grigerenko already played last year aswell for Team Russia. For team USA they only get a boost from Galchenyuk playing.
Ceci I knew was going to be in tough, but Puempel has been filling the net like crazy lately, but well..if it wasn't for the lockout, you may have seen them both in there. hopefully Noeson makes Team USA..then we should have some representation. .perhaps Claesson too on Sweden.
hey Chirp, maybe Don would be interested in ar arcticle commenting more on individual players?
Puempel is currently injured with a shoulder sprain, but he was listed as day to day, since he injured that shoulder last monday, I was assuming he would have been ready by December 10th.
Whatever, the Rangers will be playing without Faksa, Murphy, and Rieder, this will allow Puempel to truly show off his skills, if he is able to carry the Rangers on his back and win some games, this is why he was known as the best pure goal scorer in the 2011 draft, because he was scoring over 30 goals for a crappy Petes team.
Ceci being left out is the most puzzling.
Its ok, we don't need Gonchar's stats... Doubtful we will ever see him in a Sens uniform again.
I don't think so. And that doesn't have to be his style at this point. Look at Karlsson.
Ultimately, in the offensive production category, the Hockey Canada brass "believe" they have more developed players at this time in Hamilton, Reilly, Murphy and Pouliot, even though on paper, Ceci is putting up the production on shit team...
There is definitely a bias against him but I wouldn't worry for the future of the Senators. Ottawa made the right pick.
Ottawa Senators have drafted, and own the rights to Mika Zibanejad, and this Romberg guy from Sweden, should simply accept the fact, that Bryan Murray made the decision, and that he Romberg, and his Federation cannot force Zibanejad to play for Sweden in WJC this year !!
Love your revamped look Chirp, and like the WHITE #'s which are so clear and easy to read.
still get the cougar life ads though, and normally that is not a problem, but the cheerleaders in my town did not look like that lol. just messing, site is great.
HC scout Kevin Prendergast: Cody Ceci struggled during summer's Canada-Russia Challenge + depth on D = no invite to selection camp
He did...
Super happy about the 8 straight. Bishop is doing what he needs to do when called upon and the teams offense is really starting to roll. For a team who scored only 16 goals the month of October, came out hot with 36 in the month of November. And started December off in fine fashion with a 5 goal night.
Da Costa had one of his best all around games as a BSen last night from what I've read. People forget he was 6th in BSens scoring last year with 36 points, 13 goals. The guy has offense, he just hadn't had much playing time. Prince is also on a roll!! One thing i'd love to see is the starting lines, was he playing 1st line C? Two of his goals were assisted by Prince and he was credited along with Price on Wiercioch's goal, so they are playing together.
So Lehner is a little banged up, as long as it's not worse than that. And Zibanejad has also been off the roster, I can't recall, was it a dental issue? Again, hope it's nothing too serious and he's back soon and able to gel with the rest of the guys during this streak. Nothing worse than your team going on a roll and you not being fully part of it on the ice.
I am surprised by Sweden's reaction as I would have expected some original agreement between BM and them, but then again, business in business. As for him not proving anything in this tourney, I can't say that's a valid excuse. This tournament is one of the biggest in the world right now. Winning gold before should't keep you from wanting it again. But wanting him to get AHL experience makes a lot of sense. Also, Pierre McGuire hit the nail on the head when he talked about where it's held this year, which could be a factor. Ufa, Russia is by no means a popular destination.
All I know is I can't wait for the WJC!! :)
If there had been an NHL season this year, obviously the Nuge would be playing NHL hockey, and probably Huberdeau, Strome, Scheifele, Jenner and Strome. I guess at the end of the day they figured if there wasn't room for Puempel in the top 6 then he wouldn't really fit in on the team.
As for Ceci I'm not surprised, from what I've seen and heard he needs to do a ton of work on his defensive game.
I'm on the fence about Murray's decision myself. On one hand Zibanejad needs to continue to adjust to the North American game, but on the other hand, being able to return for Sweden this year at the world Juniors could give me a chance to dominate and gain some confidence in his own game which could definitely carry over to his play in the AHL.
One thing seems apparent though, the B-Sens look like they will continue to roll with or without Zibby, as they won both games without him and Lehner this weekend.
As good as Bingo is right now, I can only imagine how much better they could have been if Cowen didn't get injured.
Good game by Bingo... wish I could have seen it.
We have issues getting the Ustream BSenshockeylive to work.
Yesterday at first it was showing football. We spent about 45 min trying to find another stream with no luck. We go back to the BSenshockeylive and see baseball on.
Finally got the AHL on that site.. but it was up and down the rest of the game. Didn't get to see one goal.
Is anyone else having issues with this Ustream?
I can't find anything on HFBoards regarding the B-Sens or any stream...
It's really frustrating..
But on that note, how the ---- does Schultz have over 30+ pts for OKC? I haven't watched a Barons game, but is this guy for real? Could he eclipse Karlsson as a more promising young D? Unfortunate that the BSens don't face OKC this year... Would've loved to see that.
Works fine on my Iphone 3, when I turn the phone sideways everything fits.
We still have Mikael Wikstrand...str ong possibility for Sweden

That was the message from design guy too. Said everything should be fine with the phone sideways.
Yeah it looks great with the phone sideways on the iPhone 4.
Not sure if I should hold my breath or not....a few others on twitter said an above average number of players are coming back this past week as well.
Should be fine with the phone turned sideways, no?
Haha and I wish I read that before I replied. Yeesh...
