  • Another Playoff Moment

Something I learned at a young age, is that if you approach playoffs with the "Cup or bust" mentality, you'll completely miss the real beauty of this magical time of year.

Playoffs are all about those "moments". Those where were you when, kind of moments. The ones that stick with you for days, weeks, even years to come. And as Ottawa Senators fans, we have been pretty spoiled the last couple of seasons.

BSens Struggle Over the Weekend

After starting their season strong with three wins in the preseason and another two to start the regular season, Luke Richardson’s team has stumbled as of late.

The Binghamton Senators have now lost four of five games, including back to back games this past weekend in Portland and Manchester. The BSens are now off until this coming weekend, when they play consecutive away games against the Norfolk Admirals.

On Saturday, the BSens held a 40-31 advantage on the shot clock but still came up short, losing 4-2 to a Portland Pirates team that includes former Sens prospect David Rundblad. Jakob Silfverberg and Corey Cowick were the only goal scorers for Binghamton, with both goals coming while shorthanded.

Less than 24 hours later, the BSens were back in action and did not fare any better against the Manchester Monarchs. While I didn’t have a chance to tune in, by all accounts this was by far Binghamton’s sloppiest effort of the season thus far. Bingo was outshot 38-29 and were pretty much outplayed the whole way through.

Ben Bishop made his regular season debut and apparently showed some signs of rust, getting down by a couple goals early.

The American Hockey League schedule can make it very difficult for a goalie to get in any kind of groove. The BSens primarily play on weekends which means Bishop will have to wait a few more days before getting another shot at game action. You would expect Richardson to give Bishop one of the starts this weekend in Norfolk.

Hope to have a more complete BSens update later this week from our contributor Don Rieber who is busy seeking shelter from Hurricane Sandy. Hope all readers in the Binghamton area are doing the same.

  • With absolutely zero progress to report on the CBA front, another Ottawa Senator has found work overseas. Sens forward Milan Michalek is the latest to join the European ranks, signing a contract with HC Mountfield in the Czech League. Martin Hanzal and Vinny Prospal have also signed on with the same team.
  • It may not be hockey related, but I wanted to take time to congratulate Ottawa's own Brad Fritsch for clinching his spot on the PGA Tour over the weekend.  Nothing has been made official yet but apparently Fritsch will sign a sponsorship deal with the Ottawa Senators and will have the team's logo on his golf bag.  Pretty cool to see someone from the Ottawa-area on the Tour.

it's early b sens will be fine.
would like to find a better stream without paying $7 per game, should have bought the ahl package but the NHL idiots made me think there would be a deal and we'd be playing by nov.2 so i waited it out.

weird to listen to an ohl game live now on team 1200

The B-Sens really need to send all of their little players to Elmira & field a bigger & tougher team. Guys like Da Costa, Petersson, Pageau, Prince, Caporusso, Hamilton, Wideman & Claesson all belong in the East Coast League since they aren't producing much in the AHL & it's doubtful any of them make it to the NHL/Ottawa.

This is the lineup I would like to see:

Silfverberg - Zibanejad - Stone
Hoffman - Grant - Dzuirzynski
Schneider - Cannone - Jessiman
Cowick - Kramer - Downing/bring back Culek

Cowen - Benoit
Boroweicki - Eckford
Wiercioch - Gryba/Blood

Lehner - Bishop/Lawson

Ouch. I'm not sure that that would aid the development of some of our prospects. And in all fairness to Prince, he has yet to play a game this year.

And Petersson and Da Costa were pts leaders on the team last year. My guess is they are good enough for the AHL...

While I agree that our lineup needs to get a lot tougher, prospects will only be able to develop to play on NHL ice if they stay in the AHL. plus to be fair, Claesson is actually one of the few guys who makes an impact in the toughness coloumn. Sending him down there will be pointless. Peterson was pretty good last season and it's too early to throw him to the dogs this early and I think that goes for Da-costa as well.

The organization could acquire pieces and make a legit run in the AHL now...or they could be patient with the current roster and give a fair oppurtunity to all these young guys and hopefully secure our success in the long run....

That's just my opinion though.

I think the B-Sens will be ok. Every team hits a rough patch, just so happens we're in it right now. Remember, we are still finding chemistry and we know these guys can pot the goals. We could not have expected them to seriously just keep winning, it's all part of a long season. They'll right the ship and things will look good.

This is a young team, they said one of the youngest in the AHL.

Losing Cowen & Gryba, who were both playing well, to injury doesn't help.

Young players, new coach, new playing system... it will take time... but they will get there.

In the event the NHL does come back.. they will only lose Bishop, Cowen & Silfverberg to the NHL. Some other teams will lose more.

My thoughts are with the people in the US & in Canada who are in the direct path of that massive storm.

Watching CNN right now. Lots of flooding and a predicted 12 ft storm surge at high tide.. The storm is still out to sea and not reached land - there is a lot of damage right now. It's going to get a lot worse for them.

i Wouldn't mind if the sens could do a minor league deal and aquire toffoli.

maybe dacosta, peterson and a 2nd.

would consider other players

like bishop, cannone, gryba, wercroitch, etc.

getting toffoli now could be much cheaper then what he'll be worth in 2-3 years. if we trade prospects that are not quite in our big picture but are nhl quality prospects than its a win/win.

you forgot stone and other pretty good prospects that are injured, i know prince will make a difference in the ahl but i would send him back to the O and have him be a leader and help Ceci and the 67's win some games. next year Ceci and prince could play in the A together.

How long would it take Toffoli to crack the Kings lineup? Is he their top prospect? I don't believe they have lost too many players from their Cup winning lineup.

I would love to have Toffoli in the Sens organization to go with Prince. Now either try to get Martindale who played with them on a line with the 67's two years ago... OR be lucky enough to win a draft lottery or pick high to get Monahan who played on a line with them last season.

I think it would take more than 'a minor league deal' to get Toffoli. He's a top prospect on any team in the league. Players who score 30and 40 goals in Junior are a dime a dozen. But the players who score 50+ goals are the special players who transition very well to the NHL (same goes for players who manage 60+ assists per season *cough*stone*coughcough*)

I wouldnt accept the trade you proposed and neither would the kings. 4 of the players you mentioned are carreer AHLers

Bishop is useless to LA

Wiercioch has 0 trade value, though I think he's going to be a useful dman in the near future

IF Ottawa for some reason decides to deal for any prospect from the 2010 draft, I would hope that his name is Emerson Etem

talking about nhl.

how does mlb.tv premium 0.99 per month and $3.99 per year, and nhl center ice is almost $275.00?

why are hockey fans raped everywhere?

the league and players fighting over money, im starting to think we as fans are pretty stupid and gullible for paying the high prices.

Completely off topic but I just wanted to speak about Alfie's potential retirement if the season is completely wiped out. If we had not made the playoffs or eliminated from them, the proper farewell for Alfie after the game would see him get an ovation that could very well bring tears to his eyes, not to mention the fans as well. And for the season perhaps cancelled in its entirety, fuck. What a shame. The best captain the team will ever have won't even be able to say goodbye to his team and the loyal at Scotiabank Place. Man that's a fuckin shame.

Agreed.. It's crazy that they can't decide to split hockey revenues which WERE 3.2 billion dollars. That decreases the longer they are out..

I say if the NHL comes back the sens should let all our a-list prospects play out the year in the ahl. We signed daugavins-condr a-o'brien to one-ways. Bring up Hoffman -silfverberg and a d-man.

Mich-spezza-Hoffman
Late dress-TUrris-alfie
Greening-regin-silver berg
Condra-smith-Neil
O'brien

Let zibby-stone-pag eant develop.

if our government just protected our teams, arena workers jobs etc than canadian teams wouldn't be locked out and we could've had all canadian match ups.

not sure how the NHL which is US based does not have to obey canadian laws while operating in canada. The lockout should not be allowed in canada and i'm happy atleast the players tried to play.

our country should have protected our jobs, our teams our pasttime.
