The Crunch had the last laugh in this one though, scoring six unanswered goals en route to a 6-5 OT win. All six goals came against Nathan Lawson, who took over for Lehner after the fight.
Anyway, here is the video of Lehner going off on Helenius.
Without overstating it, this really was the best season I have had as a fan of the Ottawa Senators.
And while many fans will quickly default to the Stanley Cup run, there was just something about this team that made this lockout shortened season extra special. Cheering for and blogging about the underdog Ottawa Senators team was the most thrilling, unexpected, delightful experience I've had as a sports fan.
While the result on the ice wasn't what Luke Richardson and the Binghamton Senators were hoping for, it was a goalie fight that had everybody talking after the game.
BSens goaltender Robin Lehner dropped the glove and blocker and went toe to toe with Riku Helenius of the Syracuse Crunch. Have to give the edge to Lehner in this one as he appears to land about three or four solid punches before the two fall to the ice.

Goalie Fight- Lehner vs. Helenius
At this point, I just don't think the guys feel very comfortable in front of Lawson. Where was big Ben and why was he scratched??? The B-Sens will learn from this and realize not to take any lead for granted no matter who's in net for them.
Can't really blame Lehner. How was he supposed to know Lawson couldn't stop the puck and would give up a 5-0 lead almost single-handedly ? Had Bishop been in net, or had Lawson only given up a goal or two, this wouldn't even be an issue.
The guy is GOLD...we can pump Silf or Zib's tires as much as we want, but when you need that internal, emotional push on top of the acutely cerebral game Silf plays then Lehnzies will bring you there...stones as big as his helmet.
What a man!
Very unfortunate that Nathan Lawson had to go in and ruin an otherwise solid performance by the team, and Robin - ALL BY HIMSELF.
Wasn't he sent down to Elmira? I don't get the assignment process in Bingo. Ben Blood was sent down and brought back up a day later as per the request of the Sens Brass, then sent back down again, then word is Nathan Lawson is sent down but is back up for a game a day later. Make up your mind!
lehner kept his cool until he was piled on, defencemen should know not to pile on the goalie and toss anyone aside who touches your goalie.
Goalies shouldn't have to defend themselves that's why we have defencemen to do the dirtywork, thats why defencemen are big beasts.
there was nothing wrong with the lehner fight and some blame has to goto coach richardson for not calling a timeout and telling his team not to take dumb penalties and let the other team back into the game.
It was a very scrappy night and after the fact i think it sends an early season statement even though we lost a point is dont mess with bingo or you will get a beatdown.
Defence need to stick up for the goalie and let him stay and play his game. i dont blame lehner on this one.
it was good ol' hockey and i loved it.
Lehner has to grow up or we will soon have Emery 2.0.
Also, and I know it's his first time playing in North America and he has to get adjusted to smaller ice and blah blah blah but to be honest I'm not sure we're seeing the dominance we've all been expecting out of Jakob Silfverberg I mean it's not like he's been bad, but for his pedigree I feel he hasn't done enough. I guess he will progress in due time, but even once the lockout is over I'd like to see him stick in the A because he really hasn't done enough to prove why he should be a top line winger in the N. Now the player that has impressed me is Zibanejad. The way he plays the game is just so transferable to the NHL that I feel like he would do better. He hasn't been lighting the lamp, but he's been very good in almost all facets of the game and if I had to decide between Zib or Silf for a top 6 position right now it would be Zib.
Mark Stone has also come along nicely as well.
And Robin Lehner's amazing I don't know what else to say about him other than he is the reason why the team has been doing well and will be a star in the NHL in the near future.

Love goalie fights but lets not get carried away. Luke will talk to Lehner, everyone in the organization will talk to Lehner I bet plus he will hear from a lot of fans as well. I would hate to diminish his passion though but with age he will learn from this & hopefully it will make him a better goalie. The comparisons to Emery although slightly similar may not be fair although Ray was the last & only goalie to take Ottawa to the Stanley Cup finals. I hope & believe Lehner also has that skill & ability.
Having said that though, I bet his teammates think it's great & although they lost the game I bet his teammates feel very comfortable with Lehner in net even more now. This is the kind of thing that brings a team together & breeds confidence in everyone. They now know they don't have to worry too much about defending him because he can defend himself & everyone else knows it too. Remember Emery also defended his crease. Ottawa also has some big tough defencemen to clear the crease, no worries there.
I really like it that Bingo has a big tough team now & hope eventually some of that size & toughness finds it's way to Ottawa soon.
Petersson, zibby and stone have been looking good so far, I think it may take a full year or maybe 2 before silfverberg makes an impact at an nhl level. He has the potential but he is having a hard time adjusting so far.
all Ive been hearing is how he has a rocket, and an NHL caliber shot
2nd on the team with 17 shots and nothing to show for it.
Seems his time in Sweden actually WAS a waste of time.
I thought he was SOOOOO good at defence.. he was on the ice for 3 goals against
peeeeyouu
F
the 5 players I've loved so far are Dziurzynski-Zib by-Stone-Hoffma n and Gryba.
He got piled on and then the other goalie skated down to his end to challenge him. Plus it was 5-0. If there has ever been a time for your star goalie to beat he crap out of someone, this was it.
Lawson is clearly a joke. However this also proves our team isn't nearly as good when Lehner isn't between the pipes.
I think despite the loss this is a good thing. Lehner gets serious props from his teammates and gets mad love from the fans. They were going nuts during that scrap. Remember how much love Emery got when he fought?
Also this sends a message to all the other teams. Someone mentioned that now the opposing coaches will tell their players to crash the net. Maybe that's true but if Lehner keeps laying down the beats the players will soon stop listening to their coaches simply from fear of getting a beat down from a 6'4 mamath. That crunch goalie took some big shots. Particularly a massive uppercut that dropped him. I myself would not want to piss this guy off. I'd love to see Price or any leafs goalie try something
Lehner is a beauty that doesn't take shit from no one
LOL , what are you? 12?
3 games, and you're already shitting on him...
Dude watch the games. the fact that he can take 17 shots on net is pretty decent by itself. considering it's only been 3 games.
I love how the people on here expect the stamkos's and Giroux's within our prospects to come alive throughout the game.
Doesn't spezza not socre goals for games on? and then when he does he lights it up....Our prospects don't need more expectations than they can handle.
Fucking agreed. The guy literally dropped about 30 pounds this summer...that's a pretty good sign of maturity and dedication to me....And please if Lawson hadn't had such a bad night, the guys on here would have already made a church of Lehner.
I wasnt looking at + - I was looking at what players were on the ice when Bingo was scored against... big difference
Quoting The Grammar Police:
My grammar was at least B- quality
Quoting KT7:
What does my age have to do with it. at least as 12 year old I can still count to FOUR
Four, as in: the number of games bingo has actually played.. not 3
and its 7 including preseason
AND I do watch the games.. I just dont see why BM was so quick to trade away Mike Fisher, just so he can pass up on Couturier, and Draft... Swedish Mike Fisher
aka Zibby
aka looks really promising when hes out there, but never puts up the numbers you think he's capable of based on how promising he looks when hes out there
Don't fret ZIBBY will be much better just chill a little.
You guys are blaming Lawson for playing poorly, but what about the rest of the team? What, after 1, 2, 3 goals, they stopped responding? Yeah he bombed, and let in a ridiculous amount of goals, but it's the team's job to 1.) defend better and 2.) get back to scoring goals.
(no not because i dont like our prospects, im just fooling around)
Ottawa senators trades
- Jacob Silfveberg
- Colin Greening
- cody ceci

bishop is either hurt or he's out of game shape and is getting lit up in practice

You missed a "stream?" in there.
nonono... before you wrote this post if you would have pressed "ctrl f" the word stream there would have been 250 exactly. Now there are 487 + stream? stream? stream? stream? stream? stream? stream? stream? stream? stream? stream? stream? stream? Now we have 500.
Meh...Zibby was actually solid in the preseason. I think he has a lot more to offer than Mike fisher. All im saying it's tooo small of a sample to start jumping on the " Zibby's a bust" bandwagon....sa me goes for silfverberg.
How do you know? where are you watching?
YA BUT DOES HE FIGHT!

Well it'll only take a couple of those hershey forwrds crashing into Lehner to figure out !
Anyone know anything about Shane Prince? What's the injury? I suspect that he may have to do a conditioning stint in Elmira...
12 mistakes in 7 "sentences".
Not even close to a passing grade.
I found Syracuse to be a pretty dirty team. Something happened in that pile on a Lehner save (it was right in front of us) -- he came up with a couple of swings. It was the Syracuse goalie who skated done the ice at Lehner.
Today's game is only the about the 6th game of the season for a young team learning a new system -- so it will take some time.
But agree on Silfverberg... he's not really standing out. Zibby is doing well. But the absolute favourite for the B-Sens fans is Borowiecki... they just love that kid. He is playing really well....
Met Mark Stone's mom while walking to the hotel on Friday..
Saw Paul McLean and Tim Murray at the game last night.
Some fans were saying that Jared Cowen has a muscle pull.
Bishop looked okay at the restaurant this morning.. he was there with Caporusso..
All in all a fun weekend... loved the meal at Remliks and Boscov's -- what can I say...
good job boys!
Are you on crack?
Nope, bath salts for sure! Like r u fcking serious bud or what? Lmao
CANUCNIK - why the Name change ?
1- Bill Daly said: " we think there's a framework of a deal
on the table".
2- Steve Fehr said:" There are multiple frameworks for a deal on the table".
Biggest concern for the NHLPA, is ensuring "all current contracts are honoured".
To which Bettman made it clear to Donald Fehr, "that further concessions could be made in that area".
To me , this means there's still hope for a deal to be
concluded before this Thursday Oct 25th !!
If this is not settled this week, it could be a "very long winter without NHL hockey" !!!!!!!!!!!!
There has to be a reason to be optimistic. Both sides agree that it should be a 50/50 split, it's just a matter of how soon they will get there. The NHL wants a 50/50 split starting this season, while the players want it phased in.
I don't think we'll see a full 82 game season for 2012/2013, but I think a 70 game season is a realistic thing to hope for at this point. Both sides want to get a deal done and I really get the sense that one will be reached in the coming weeks.
But, and I have to say this. As a team who is holding a 5-0 lead, while Lehner did what he felt he needed to do, this should have been handled by his teammates. Or as someone mentioned already, a timeout should have been called to allow the guys to cool off and regroup. Going forward, we know Bingo can score goals. That won't be the issue. But what will be an issue is keeping cool when under pressure. Teams will keep this little incident in there arsenal when things aren't going well, and look to pull the BSens #1 goalie out of the game if it means a chance to come back and win it. I think most of you agree that this game would not have been lost if Lehner played all 3 periods. Now again, not a full knock on Lehner, but more of a knock on the team as a whole for how they handled it and allowed it to sink them.
However, this may have awoke a sleeping dragon in our Defense and hopefully next time, someone is schooled.
Thats exactly WHY you dont do it...Learn your hockey strategies bro...
Bingo had nothing to gain from this fight, up 5-0 you dont want to give the opposition life. Syracuse was as flat as a tire, but after that fight, it got them pumped up.
This is something Luke will talk about with our young goalie, Lehner just gave fuel to the Crunch and they used that fight to get back into the game. Completely wrong time for Lehner to do that.
