Tuesday News and Notes

The Binghamton Senators have wrapped up their preseason schedule and now must trim the fat from the training camp roster in preparation for Saturday's opener.

The BSens continued that process over the weekend, assigning forward Jakub Culek to Rimouski of the QMJHL and sending Chris Wideman, Danny New, Brad Peltz and Scott Greenham to teams in the ECHL.

The weekend moves leave the BSens with 29 players in camp with the remaining cuts expected to come over the course of this week.  Bingo opens the regular season against the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday night.

  • The exodus of NHL players to Europe continued over the weekend with another Ottawa Senator headed overseas. Kyle Turris will join Oulun Karpat of the Finnish Elite League, taking a spot that was held by Jussi Jokinen.  Turris could be in the line up with his new team as early as Wednesday night.
  • Milan Michalek is reportedly skating with Ceske Budejovice in the Czech Republic and is expected to join the team once insurance issues on his NHL contract can be sorted out.

Guess that means Michalek is feeling better...

Hoping there is a good feed on Sat, really getting into this AHL team...

Michalek playing scares me, although him not playing would just increase the likelihood of injury once NHL is back too...so kinda a rock and a hard place situation

If the season is cancelled, does that mean that toronto will have missed their opertunity at the winter classic or will it be pushed back to next season?

For any player, young or old, there shouldn't be any higher likelihood of injury on non-NHL teams...

It's the guys that will go quite some time without playing that you need to worry about. No doubt when and if the NHL comes back there will be another tsunami of groin injuries and stuff.

I thought Michalek was out 4-6 weeks after that surgery? Has it even been a month?

I too would like an update on the Sens players in Europe to see how they are doing.

Looking forward to B-Sens hockey this year. It's going to be hard to cut from that defense... all look pretty good.

Do they have to get down to 23 players?

Thanks for the link Sandy, was looking for a few Spezza highlights. Wow, after watching that I'm glad that the NHL doesn't allow advertising all over the jerseys like that. I couldn't make out who was who. It's WAY too much to look at.

I know those jerseys are terrible.. but another way to sell advertising.

Watching Spezza shoot the puck like that... I just don't understand why he doesn't use it more. Makes me long to see my Sens again.... I hope it's over soon... but some are saying not...

I wondered about that too. Toronto will be unable to play the winter classic this year, and Columbus won't be getting the All Star Game. Well, better them, than us! Thank goodness our ASG was a success!

Meh... he shoots plenty.. was 35th in the league in shots taken.. and shot the puck 20 more times than michalek-who finished the season with 1 more Than spetts

At the end of the day, Spezza is a playmaker so he will pass more than shoot. It is true that he can simplify his game and shoot more when the opportunity arises, but I have no problem with him being a playmaker as long as he doesn't get caught turning the puck over too much.

I was surprised at that stat. I guess there are some opportunities to shoot that he passes rather than take the shot.. Just really want to see what he would do with Silfverberg on his wing. That shot of Silfverberg's is pretty lethal... but how would he do against NHL goaltending?

The AHL is loaded with talent this season. Let's hope we see more than Hamilton & Toronto.. on Sportsnet. There will be better teams than them...

speaking of jerseys, does anyone know of a good site to get some of those European ones? I'm thinking of getting a Spezza Lakers or Karlsson Jokerit jersey. But getting them from the clubs themselves is expensive. About $200 Cdn which is similar to here for authentics but a replica would work.

Cheers in advance

Chirp can u post the upcoming euro games our players will be in, either somebody as a third party or if someone could email chirp so he could add a weekly hockey schedule and times for those who still wish to follow our players and hopefully post streams for those games.

lets work together as a hockey community to provide hockey to those who want it.

thanks to all.

After watching some highlights of the preseason B-Sens games, they look really good. Zibanejad is going to a stud.

Just spent a good 45 minutes editing and preparing a Chirp of the Week entry to post this morning only to push the wrong button and close it rather than post it.

Needless to say the post will have to be delayed until later this afternoon.

if you prepared it in word, there's a chance that if you open word, the document saved itself as a draft...

good luck.
