NHL13- SensChirp League

Because some folks would rather not read about the details of our recently created NHL 13 league, I thought it would be a good idea to set up a separate thread.

Any discussion related to the league can happen here. This thread won't appear on the home page but you can always access it directly through the archives. Good luck to all the participants!

We are using the GM Connected mode on Xbox 360. Anyone still looking to join will have to do so as a player.

So how will this work? Is there a set day where we need to have our games played and such? I'm not exactly sure how this all works so could someone fill in the details of how it works? Like how long a season goes for and the such?

Right now teams have the option of playing their games or you can set yourself away and have the computer play games for you.

I set the length of the schedule available, and then people can play any games in that block of time and in any order.

So if I log on later I can just play my next game even though the other player isn't there? or do both have to be present?

Either both have to be present, or one of the teams has to enabled the CPU to play their games.

Really don't expect anyone to play all 82 games so if you know you won't be online for awhile, ideally the GM would set his team to auto-play. There are also a handful of teams without GMs that you can play against right now too.

This thread will hopefully become a good way to set up games too.

If you have Madden 12, then don't bother with 13 they are basically the same...

NHL got some pretty cool new stuff this year though..

I was pretty disappointed with both of them at first, but NHL 13 is starting to grow on me. It takes a little while to get used to the new gameplay, but once you do, it's actually a pretty solid game.

I'm bored of Madden already, because like Smash said above, it's no different than Madden 12.

Hmmm...might be a dumb question but here goes:

I've got 4 games lined up on my schedule (3 player team & 1 cpu team). I've tried to play them, but the player teams were obviously not responding and I played against the cpu team (buffalo).

So I figure we can prob set some matches up on here, but if that fails to happen: Is there a limit of "real" days that go by before these games are forced to be simmed? or are we stuck in this situation until all players have resolved their matches? If there is a "real" day limit, what is it?

don't get me wrong, I'm loving this...just trying to figure out what will happen next if I log on tonight and nobody is on again (once again, not complaining, there's many nights where I'm busy as well).

Commissioner can auto-sim a section of the schedule. Will be handy if a couple people aren't playing their games quick enough. Also, if someone knows they are going to be unavailable for awhile, they can set their team to simulate.

Right now I have sim games turned off but I'll turn it on tonight now that the league is pretty close to full.

Yeah that Connected app is giving me troubles too... My account is linked with my PSN name but I can't find anywhere to add my xbox one.. When I click on add persona's it just gives me a blank screen...

I would just much rather have a webpage app. I have an android phone right now, so no acees there. I've got an old iphone at home I could use, but I don't want to manage my league on a 3.5" screen.

Not a bad idea but by the sound of it, if you end up on a team and that GM sets it to SIM/Auto play then you will never get to play games lol or the opposite and you would have to sync your timing up with the GM in order to play together.

It really does sound cool but hard to organize :-P

That was pretty disappointing. Haven't had that before although in other games I noticed plenty of "resets" in overtime.

They definitely have some issues to fix in this game and hopefully soon.

Haha well we PS3'ers were feeling a little left out by not having an XBOX ( Cause I'm assuming there are more people on here with the BOX as opposed to the console in black). Darthsens made the league for us minority console holders and as commisioner of the league promised the current CBA is just fine the way it is and it's going to last for the next 50 years. We couldn't possible refuse that

My only question about this GM Conencted league is, if for example, I'm the Sens and someone else is the Leafs, and the next game up is Sens vs Leafs, and the guy who is the GM of the Leafs isn't around, how do we play that game?

Do I play against the cpu and the leafs have to sim the game??
Or does that GM of the leafs HAVE to be around to play it?!

Seems confusing.

Seems confusing.

You can play any game in your block of schedule at any time. Does not have to be in order. So basically you have 5 or 6 games to play and they can be done in whatever order you choose.

The GM of each team can also set their games to sim mode which means you can either play vs. the CPU or just simulate the game completely.

It's important that if a GM is going to be offline for awhile, they either set their team to sim mode or have other players available to play their games.

If the block of schedule takes too long to complete, then I (as the commissioner) can just simulate the entire block of schedule.

I'm looking to give my team a more balanced roster. At forward, after Getzalf, Gaborik and Ryan, I really don't have anyone worthy of being in my top 6.

I'm willing to listen to offers for both Ryan and Getzlaf, but I'm only interested in top 6 talent or a top pairing defenseman.

I've received some pretty good offers for Ryan, but none that I'm willing to pull the trigger on yet.

I've also received some incredibly insulting offers. I don't want any draft picks or players rated below 80 in exchange for my top talent.

I'm not desperate to make a trade just for the hell of it... I actually want to make my team better.

Anyway, B. Ryan(rated 86) and R. Getzalf(88) are available for the right price. So are Selanne(82), Beauchemin(83), Allen(81) and Lydman(81).

Wondering the same thing myself. You do get a message saying that they will take a few days to think about it but I havent noticed anything else. Would check your AHL roster to make sure they didn't end up down there.

I know with trades you have to wait until the end of the schedule block before players move. Would assume it is similar for free agents.

After this current segment, going to cut it down to one week schedule blocks with more frequent sim aheads by the Commissioner. This will allow GMs to get faster feedback on their deals and free agent offers.

Yeah it would be nice if the Boston GM would step up and give him back, it's not really fair to me to get a team missing it's most valuable asset... Most leagues have a "no trading with CPU teams" rule for this very reason.. No one in their right mind would make that trade from the New York side.. I'll message him on xbox and hopefully he offers him back, but that's a pretty big thing, he is essentially my best player...

Originally I thought going to shorter blocks of schedule would be a good idea but I guess it's better to keep it at two weeks so you have a few games available to play.

From what I've noticed there may be a third of the league that is actually active. The teams that I've seen online regularly other than myself (Anaheim) are:

Montreal
Pittsburgh
Ottawa
Tampa Bay
Washington
Calgary
Dallas
New Jersey
Vancouver

I see Toronto, Columbus, Colorado and Edmonton on once in a while. There are some teams like L.A or Minnesota that I've never seen online even once. Could just be me though.

It's just dumb that i didn't put him on waivers.. the computer did it automatically..

There are some definite flaws in this game that are making it quite annoying..

I've lost my best player (Lundqvist) and now Redden to stuff completely out of my control...

Please if you see any Rangers on waivers, please leave them, they aren't suppose to be there... I just know Kreider is ending up there next...

Keep in mind that hitting best lines DOES have the potential to send down players without your consent.

Even if you are set to sim, games can not proceed with incomplete lines. Important to keep an eye on your team and make sure lines are filled.

The Leafs are currently without a GM and I think I'll have to remove a couple more over the weekend.

Hey chirp, I'm playing the bruins first round and the GM hasn't been on in awhile, I've only aged 2 games and can't finish the series because of his roster problems.. Maybe send a message or give him a day to respond or something? would suck to lose first round on simulation

I'm with Kyler. I'm two games into my series against the San Jose Sharks and haven't seen the user on, nor has he even touched his lines since last Monday. I don't want to suggest removing these inactive GMs but that should definitely be considered. It sucks for those of us who are actively playing.

I didn't get screwed over by this but I can guarantee there are going to be a fair amount of pissed off people. The league has kinda turned into a joke now. There should have been an announcement made on here that you were simming to free agency already.

Yea, GM Connected really doesn't do a good job of telling you how the process works. Was trying to keep the things moving but saw that a few teams got burned by not having a chance to make offers to all their players.

And really, I have no way to tell if guys are making offers or not. Problem is a few guys seem really engaged while others I barely hear from.

I was able to get a couple guys through free agency but others did the same. Agree that we need to come up with a better way of communicating.

I've been sending messages out through the league announcement system but that doesn't really help people that haven't signed on.

I get the frustration, I missed the first crack at the free agents but there are still plenty of good players left. Plus, I know personally, there will be tonnes of roster players getting moved to make room for the ufas recently signed. Eg, I'm about four mil over right now so I'm going to have to give away some decent players to make room. Chirp is accomadating the league just fine. He's right, it gives no indication of what is coming up and how the process works. It's unfortunate but, it's the mode, not the commish. Also, I noticed there are almost no rfas available. Looks like the rfas are auto retained and the ufas set loose. For the most part. Keep having fun with it guys.

Yea I did lose players I wanted to resign Aswell! It sucks but also I undersand from chirps side that we don't have a rule book on how the sims work in the off season, it's all a learning process for the first year! well just have to make due guys!

Definitely feel for the guy running the Bruins. He was a late addition to the league and I noticed a ton of his guys on the market, including Rask/Lucic (the newest Ottawa Senator) and Tyler Seguin.

The best solution is to make sure people are in this thread regularly and then I'll do my best to post updates in here.

yeah really got thrown for a loop this off season, no draft? didt get to resign any players so i had to go out and send a bucnh of bad contract offers out to make sure i had some telent......did nt realize that every single player i sent an offer to accepted haha need to shed some salary real soon dallas is up for sale!

Notice a large number of teams with north of $15 mil in cap space. Guess those GMs sat out the offseason.

Wonder if the last roster clean up will assign those teams free agents to get them to the cap floor...No clue how this will work. Guess we'll find out when I do the last off season sim tomorrow night.

Anybody know if there is a way to send the same message to all users? Anoying to have to type it out each time but would be good if I could message each gamer tag directly to make sure they still want to play.

hey chirp you should hold off a bit before we sim and start the season, cut all thses GMs who havent spent any money and are clearly not interested...se nd out a tweet to try and find some new GMs im sure if you send a shout out we can fine 10-15 serious GMs then everyone can get there rosters set up for this season.....just a suggestion

I agree with waiting this out. Lets get some involved people and start season 2 off right.

Chirp, in regards to the lack of communication: how would you feel about creating an email list that allows the GMs and the commissioner to communicate through emails. If people aren't involved I'm sure they wouldn't want emails coming in about an online NHL league and would therefore inform you to remove them. Everyone stays in the loop and can easily email others. Also, the GMs could get an email list with the address to each GM making it easy for us to negotiate (I hate sending messages on the Xbox!!)

What do you fellow GMs think?

If we were going to wait things out, we should have done that before the draft, before the resign phase and before free agency. So many teams are a disaster now. Teams like Boston and NYR and a few others have been gutted by free agency. Boston lost the likes of Seguin, Horton, Marchand, Lucic among others. The Rangers lost Perry, McDonagh, Del Zotto, Tukka Rask, Stepan etc lol no one is going to want to manage those teams and others that have been completely stripped of their talent. We never should have started free agency until the inactive GMs were replaced by reliable people.

well thats what happend... there are plenty of teams right now that need to drop big contracts and top end talent no reason why new GMs cant come in and build a new team through trades...lots of solid free agents left as well.. im sure if chirp sends out a tweet he will get more then enough feedback from people

I agree, the more "serious" gms, the better the league will be.

As far as teams being gutted, i wouldn't be concerned. Yeah sure now they may have lost some of their marquee players but, it adds an element of challenge that I had a lot of fun with this season with New Jersey. My lineup was awful but i wanted to see how well i could do with what i had. It also gave me more flexibility to make changes via trade, or waiver claims. I had fun moulding a team i didn't like in the slightest into a team that was super fun to play with.

I'm not really into the email thing. Definitely a good idea but i already check this thread and the Iphone app to get my updates. I'd hate to have to check one more thing. My two cents on that anyways.

I don't mind waiting at all for more gms to be added but can we get an approximation of when we can expect to start? Im looking forward to see how/if my players "grew" in the offseason!

Is anyone looking to make some trades? I really didn't know how the free agency period was going to work. I sent out a whole bunch of offers expecting that only one or two of the contracts I sent out would be accepted. In the end I ended up signing every player that I made an offer to and now I have too many big contracts on my team and not enough depth.

I'm hoping to move a big contract or two for some depth players, or to trade a top six forward, top 4 dman and picks/prospects for a top line winger or two pairing dman.

I could really use a a right handed defenseman on my blueline. Every dman I have is a left hand shot lol

Yeah I was actually going to send you an invite on Xbox. I know you're one of the few reliable GM's. I'll send you the league ID in a bit.
