Obviously all the talk heading into Game 3 is the physical tone this series took during Saturday night’s game. Carkner, who received a one game suspension for his actions, got the ball rolling early and the nastiness continued throughout the game.
Carl Hagelin was suspended for three games for a cheap shot on Sens Captain Daniel Alfredsson.
Brendan Shanahan was on MSG Networks this morning and defended the decisions he made. There was some talk that he suggested he would reduce the suspension if Alfie played. You can listen to the interview here, but that’s not exactly what he said. He was merely stressing the fact that the injury was a factor in his decision.
For what it’s worth, I’m not going to join that group that piles on every decision Shanahan makes. The guy really does have the toughest job in hockey right now and has done an admirable job and more importantly, is willing to openly discuss each decision he makes. At some point the officials and players need to take responsibility for what happens on the ice.
Alfredsson was on the ice for the morning skate and is being called a game time decision. The Sens will be forced to make one line up change as defenceman Matt Gilroy will draw back in for the suspended Carkner. Here is how the Senators lined up at the morning skate.
Michalek-Spezza-Winchester
Foligno-Turris-Alfredsson
Greening-Smith-Neil
Konopka-O’Brien-Condra
Kuba-Karlsson
Phillips-Gilroy
Cowen-Gonchar
For those of you that are in attendance tonight, be ready to make some serious noise. The crowds at MSG were electric but I have no doubt Scotiabank Place can be every bit as loud. In a series that is going to come down to the wire, we the fans have an opportunity to give our team the boost they need.
No holding back.
GO SENS GO!
- With the BSens season over, the Sens have brought up Lehner, Borowiecki, Gryba, Wiercioch, Da Costa, Dziurzynski, Hoffman, Petersson and Zibanejad to join the Sens as The Black Aces for the playoff run.
Nope - you just have to pass the baseline tests which Alfie (apparently) did.
Agreed on Shanny - while some decisions he made this year were not what I would have liked (Wolski for example) it absolutely is an impossible job and the fact that he releases videos explaining each decision is really great. He's at least willing to explain his reasons and clearly is trying to be fair.
If Alfie can't go Daugavins does seem like the logical guy to step in - though MacLean may go with Klinkhammer if he doesn't see anyone in the bottom six he wants to move up to the 2nd line. Or heck even Butler - maybe he can find his magic from the end of last year again???
Too many quiet crowds this year but the playoffs are usually better.
Anyone going to the game needs to make a ton of noise and make sure people around you make noise too. Keep it positive and simple (Go Sens Go etc) and even the old foggies will join in.
2) If they do, is Frank Lessard still with our organization?
3) Not to nitpick, but for tonights game they are giving out towels (better than those thundersticks, which really quietens the building), but I heard the towels will be white...Wouldn' t it make more sense to give out red towels, aw we will be in red and the Rangers will be in white? (Sorry, I know it's a small detail, but I watched the big Phoenix "white out" on the week-end and I had to laugh as it looked like the Hawks were receiving the support and the Coyotes in red looked like the enemy. Someone should tell these marketers that the home team stopped wearing the white jerseys years ago.)
Anyway, GO SENS GO!
1) John Scott was skating as if he's playing tonight (left ice before the other scratches) but no announcement yet.
2) We have a TON of guys that can fight if needs be - no need for us to dress AHLers.
3) Red towels are probably twice as expensive. White towels are also symbolic of Roger Neilson so we kind of "own" white towels in a way. Agree red would be way cooler though and worth the cost.
Zibanejad suffered a concussion at a Bingo practice apparently and didn't play for them as they had planned.
http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nhl/Mika_Zibanejad/2187399/zibanejad-may-have-a-concussion-after-colliding-with-one-of
Expect Daugavins with a chance MacLean goes with Klinkhammer instead.
Actually, expect Alfie - the guy's a warrior.
Couldn't agree more. In fact, I'm fully expecting Torts to play someone else instead and this Scott thing is just Torts stealing MacLean's idea of misleading lineups.
Great news about Alfredsson, happy he's skating. That alone means he's pushing forward, which should give the guys some extra modivation tonight.
One thing Ottawa has tried to do for the last few years in the playoffs is match the other buildings energy levels. I like the idea of towels, but the white out thing has been done before and we don't even use White as a primary, Red is our colour. SENSor said it best, go with Red and stick to Be Red, or at least go barber pole this year to support the heritage jersey. I think 1000's of those in the air would be neat. Just seems the marketing teams change it up every year, hard to keep one solid idea.
I'm asking the Sens gods for one thing today, the 1st goal tonight. If we get that goal, this game is ours. Go Sens Go!!!
I agree Hax, I wouldn't be surprised if Kreider is in the lineup for his speed. Scott is a joke and will only hurt them.
It will be a more organized and throrough game.
PS. If Karlsson does not win the Norris, there is seriously something wrong with this league.
Brent Wallace @tsn_wally
Quote from Mark Messier in the Rangers locker room this morning http://lockerz.com/s/201825634
Hoping to see some signs tonight:
His
Norris
Is
Coming
(with Karlsson number/pic of course)
Torts is "perplexed"
Never go against the family
Win it for Carkner
So I think if we can go out balls out and score first... it's ours! We can't let them set the tone.
just thinking the Carks suspension over does that mean every time someone from the Rangers comes after a SEN if we turtle we will get a 5 minute power play and the aggressor with get a 1 game suspension?
Make some noise!!!!
On a side note...I must be doing something right...I am tied with Chirp in the pool!
GO SENS GO
Both coaches have downplayed the last change thing but I think that's going to be key. MacLean will be able to get Spezza's line more time against other lines/pairings. Winchester on the top line as well might help get some more ice for Spezza to work with. Would love for that line to pot a couple tonight.
Last playoffs I was in the building many games for was against the Ducks and people with season tickets (an older couple) in front of us said they were usually quiet fans all season.
They were quiet for about the first period and they were on their feet cheering their asses off the rest of the game, we and the crowd and the game pumped them up.
It was crazy loud in the building but I watched the game later as I taped on PVR and it was so loud on TV it drowned out the announcers and they had to almost yell to be heard.
Thats my hope for tonight, be loud and proud and take part in the chants as loud as you can be. yell your asses off.
The team deserves it.
If I see any Leafs or Habs jerseys tonight, I'm going to go Carkner on their ass!
I have a favor for the lot of you. I'm currently in Iceland only with an iPhone to access the game tonight. I have good wi-fi access so I just need a website or app that would plausibly be able to play it for me. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
Cheers,
Mike
Should be able to stream it off CBC.com... not sure if only works in Canada though.
Go ape shit bro.
http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/Sports/CBC%27s_Hockey_Night_in_Canada/Live_Streams
Team 1200 if you don't get a feed, at least you can listen to the game.
true story, learned that first hand, sucks
I do believe Alfie will play, just think the sens are keeping everything close to the chest prior to puck drop.
The only guy I wouldn't mind seeing moved out of the lineup is O’Brien, only played 5min last game and didn't see a shift and the midpoint of game. With Z playing on the 4th line I think it would look better with natural winger in Daugavins or Klinkhammer.
Who ever mentioned Dacosta are u kidding me? Black aces won’t see the ice maybe Boro on D but that’s it
GO SENS GO!!!!
There are always Alfie Chants, there will be lots of them but I hope to hear some ANDY ANDY and SPEZZA SPEZZA and KARLSSON KARLSSON and other chants as well, not just one player needs to hear the love.
Should be a great game tonight, hopefully Maclean starts the game with Z. Smith's line. If Alfie can't go I imagine either Butler or Kilnkhammer will get the nod though I would prefer the bigger & harder hitting Klink-Hammer to dress.
The Sens have to play tonight the way they did Saturday night to keep momnetum on their side. They can't back down because Carkner is not in their lineup. They have to hit, shoot & shoot often & fight if they have too. And it would be nice if Spezza decides to show up & actually do something constructive instead of just giving the puck away with those stupid passes of his & constantly killing momentum. He needs to wake up & get his head into the game, everybody has picked up their pace, he has to as well.
The other thing I would like to see is our defence shoot more at the net & stop faking, or shoot passing or missing the net with their shots, get pucks to the net as often as possible, we have guys standing there, stop making them wait for the defence to get the puck to the net.
Wednesday night (if I don't somehow land tickets) I plan to go out to a local establishment on Elgin to be around the crowds, cheer and watch the game. I have a question, what's the best bar on Elgin to take part in these festivities?
Chirp, you should hold a Sens Chirp game night at a local spot downtown, reserve the place for us commenters. Just a thought.
I think it will be fine - playoff hockey is a bit different and having a "mucker" on the top line is probably okay.
MacLean has last change at home, so he should get the advantage, by putting them vs weaker lines and defense pairings !
If all the players focus on moving their feet, we can skate
circles around the Rangers .
Anderson needs to bring his best, and we will win, to take a 2-1 lead in the series !
GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!
He's apparently in Ottawa. He tweeted this yesterday:
Mark Stone @M_Stoner16
Amazing how fast a year can go by! Back in ottawa! #beautifulcity
Thanks again and go Carkner!
Agree here (to a point). Foligno and Neil's goals were both a result of shooting regardless of possible blocks and then getting a second shot at it. Need to keep shooting, expect the block and be ready to shoot again.
If the shooters are ready to defend if the guy blocking the shot gets a breakaway and the other guys near the net are ready for the puck to end up anywhere near them we'll be okay.
I fell sorry for those who have to suffer through Bob Cole on the tube tonight. That guy should have retired a decade ago. Seriously, how do we get Dean Brown onto the broadcast?
Team 1200 works in the US so might work outside of Canada - and you can test it now.
http://www.team1200.com/live/music-player/index.html
I'm in agreement with most of you, I think Alfie is going to start. It makes sense with him passing the test, being on the ice and pairing on the 2nd line as per usual. Sounds to me like a way to really amp up the crowd and get a last minute energy boost from the fans and team when he's being announced in the starting roster. Ohhh... and just think of how pissed off Rangers fans will be, since Hagelin got a 3 gamer and Alfie is back in the next game :) If you ask me, 3 games was warranted and in some way, it's punishment for the hit Wolski got away with.
But, if Alfie decides to rest up for game 4, I'd like to see Kilnkhammer get the start. He's a bigger body and should be able to lay hits. While I don't think it's going to be the type of game we saw Saturday, the aggressive hitting is a MUST in this series. Just look at how many turnovers we witnessed on both ends of the ice because of the grit and pressure being applied against the back boards.
I was at Hooley's for game 2, the place was bananas and the party kept going until close. Go Sens Go chants all night, everyone was in a good mood. If they lose, it could be bad though...ha
I agree this is definitely spezza's night.
I have a feeling that all the shenanigans are over with for the series. It will still be physical but nothing stupid. I also think this along with the energy of SBP will make us play a more offensive flowing game. When teams try to trade chances with the Sens they get owned every time. We have yet to see that in the series but now that there is some intimidation going on there could be an explosion of scoring.
I really do agree that if Spezza goes off the entire team will as well.
Can't wait to waive my white towel around tonight!!
Hahahaha YESSS!!
Fuck BOB COLE!
I am in France and have watched every game online. Simply google " live sports streams" There are numerous websites running the feed. Any of the top sites will work.
All it takes is for the score in one game to start to get out of hand and the missile silos will open. Just look at the Pens game yesterday...
Get in Dubinsky's face. All night. Man-boy is still fuming from his ejection and his tantrums entertain me.
Thanks,
this will likely have a stream tonight for the sens game outside of canada
http://www.sportlemon.tv/
Thanks for all your help guys. Anyone know of any that would work outside of CAnada?
try this Mike D: www.chanfeed.com
I'm out of the country and I've seen games 1 and 2 here.
Would assume Gilory
I would not mind seeing Borowiecki again, but it looks
like Matt Gilroy will pair up with Phillips.
GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!
try searching JustinTV. I used that website when I was overseas. It should have all the playoff games.
Cheers,
This.
We can play a lot better than we have the past two games. Keep it simple. We got half a dozen great grinders and a mobile defense. Dump, chase, grind, pop it out to the blueline and BLAST that shit! They can only block so many slappies before they start having nightmares and visiting the hospital...
Look forward to better ice this game. Good god the past two games in MSG have been brutal. Maybe the worst ice I've seen in the playoffs post lockout.
No you have to pass the base line test and all the answering questions and stuff like that, There have been cases this year with mild concussions and some players only missed 1 or 2 games, never heard of the mandatory 7 day rule till now.
Its yahoo so very well may be yahoo...lol but I have had my fair share of concussions and if I had one 2 days ago, I would still have one.
I think he wants it to appear he isn't going to play and then make the roof blow up when he comes out for the skate...Most fans aren't as in the know as the posters here and are probably assuming he is seriously hurt.
Silfverberg (when he gets here) I can see somewhat given his level of play in the SEL playoffs, but Lessard? Gryba? Parrish? Borowiecki?
They had the whole beach and bar setup outside when the Sens went to the Finals, but I don't recall them having a lot of outside activity during the games before that. Hhhmmm... I may need to contact someone and find out.
Yes. This has been their calling-card of a bad game most of the season. I know it is one of the most infuriating things for fans of any team, but I hope they can clear their own zone in a more straightforward and effective way tonight.
This would be part two of my "the good news is we can play much better still" comments.
Just found this online, guess it answers my questions
:
Red Zone Hours of Operation
Game 3 (April 16) and Game 4 (April 18)
5:30pm to 7:30pm Puckdrop (weather permitting)
Red Zone at Scotiabank Place
The pre-game plaza party outside Gate 1 of Scotiabank Plaza kicks off 2 hours before puck drop for weekday home playoff games and 3 hours prior to puck drop for weekend home playoff games. The Red Zone will close at puck drop.
Fans wishing to experience the Red Zone without having a ticket to the playoff game may do so and enjoy the game from Bert’s Bar or Frank Finnigan’s restaurants. For more information check out:
That sucks. I know it isn't always that way, maybe in the deeper rounds they keep it open? I smoke and I've definitely ducked out the front doors in playoff games and watched Coaches Corner, checked updates on other games from the big TVs they have in the Red Zone.
Which reminds me.....Are you guys going to be busting Healy's chops tonight? I hope you let him know how you feel about his dislike for our Sens. Have a great time at the game guys and I will be toasting you again from Zihuatanejo México and wishing I was with you all at the game or in a bar to cheer together. Give em hell boys......Go Sens Go!!!!!
Why? Because there a guys here that have done their job a played hard for 82 games and earned the right to play in the playoffs. If it isn’t broke don’t fix it. Go with what got you hear
I know a lot of people are excited (as they should be) about the prospects we have coming but there time will come. Silfverberg is the ONLY guy that could bring something to line-up right now but after playing a whole season and playoffs in the SEL let him rest. Go with the players who put you in this position. I think we (myself included) WAY over think changing the line-up this time of years. Let’s not tamper with what we have
CBC is Toronto... that's as far Canadian as it gets..
Going to the game tonight... Thankfully -- better ice. For a famous arena like Madison Square Garden... that ice looked awful. They spent millions of dollars on renovations last summer.. they should have fixed their ice first.
If Scott is in the lineup for the Rangers.. advantage Sens. If the Rangers keep up their goon tactics.. more suspensions on the way. But will the Rangers be as tough on the road -- a la Boyle .. as they are on home ice..
Go Sens... let's get that win... Fingers crossed Alfie is playing.. then Tortorella will be screamly bloody murder.
I think Hax was agreeing with you, not the other way around. :cP
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=628148
Zibanejad suffered a concussion in practice a few days ago.
I'm sure MacLean knows what he is doing.
Whatever the fines totalled, it was a psychological edge,
and worth every single dollar!!!
According to Mika this is news to him he said he had a bad flu
$2500 for ZK and $10,000 for the team.
So Konopka gets fined the same amount Weber did for turnbuckling Zetterberg.
OT, but is that your Jeep in Kanata north?
Could be of course but I had seen other reports.
http://www.fantasysp.com/player/nhl/Mika_Zibanejad/2187399/zibanejad-may-have-a-concussion-after-colliding-with-one-of
Of course, even if he's 100% I'm sure MacLean knows what he is doing. Dance with the one that brought you here etc.
side note: i apologize to those that were expecting me to post a stream/update others on the SEL finals last night.. had to deal with a few personal things, couldnt even get 2 minutes to post on the site saying i wont be able to post a stream. on a more positive note, i should most definitely be available to post one for tuesday's game.
It is yeah, blue Rubicon! You must have noticed the RUSH RLZ plates! :)
Cheers
Awesome news! Enjoy the game! I think you might be surprised exactly HOW LOUD it is there for a playoff game. Regular season game, even a Saturday night against the arseholes in blue and white doesn't even hold a candle to the atmosphere tonight!
My first SBP playoff game changed my entire opinion of this city.
Yes! I figured the chances were good that it was you! haha! Mrs. Pervert and I walk by with the dog all the time
My first SBP playoff game changed my entire opinion of this city."
^^^^ he speaks da truff
it is really somethin else. I will be there making as much noise as possible.
Enjoy it man. The only issue is once you have seen what this city can do, it makes you sit back and wonder WTF! during the reg season lol
We often enjoy an evening beverage or two out front especially on a game day. We're terribly friendly, be sure to say hello next time you see us!
Cheers,
Chris
Sounds like a plan! We usually have travellers with us for the walk... filled with "coffee"... cough.
-- Mike
C'mon Ottawa - sell this game out!
I don't mind this so much. Slap on the wrist really (just because Weber got fined the same when that one should have been more doesn't change that this is a minimum fine). And who's to say it wasn't audible on TV? I didn't see the MSG feed but even it wasn't it could have been and I'm sure Konopka wasn't saying "good luck" ... but some of the words might have rhymed with "luck".
I agree but if therea no concussion dont say there is ...unless u here it from someone besides yahoo cassie campbell
Goddamn it I wish my work weren't so useless...I am on Paternity leave and it took the inbred idiots a month to complete my ROE so I have another 2 weeks till money comes in...Just emailed my manager telling him I want to file an official complaint with HR about HR...so obviously I need someone above them.
he didn't seem to excited about it.
Tell him you won't complain if you receive a pair of tickets for a certain event happening as SBP tonight!
WTF? Just passing on what I had seen (in several places actually). I didn't try to say that it was gospel or anything.
LOL - someone's amped up for tonight!
Maybe we should ask Garrioch!?!?! lol
Ian Mendes @ian_mendes
By the way, there is no update on Zibanejad's injury status. He's in Ottawa, but that's about all I know today.
little confused as to what you mean by you rather gilroy over o'brein? 2 different positions?
plus in game 1 jimmy had one of the only and best scoring chances in the game when he drove the net past the diving defender but couldnt beat the king's shoulder
O'Brien isn't going to get a lot of ice in the playoffs - that's just playoff hockey. O'Brien is great and all but he's not as good as our third line so his minutes are going to be lower.
He's the right guy to have dressed on that fourth line but his minutes make sense.
http://www.vipbox.tv/sports/ice-hockey.html
Nathalie boucher @naaatboucher
Love long days of doing nothing with @MikaZibanejad #happytweet
that tweet came 21hours ago and he hasnt indicated anything about injuries.
if you havent seen his twitter page before and the interesting pictures he posts of him self with his dogs https://twitter.com/#!/MikaZibanejad
The #RedZone on the plaza @ScotiabankPlac e will be closed prior to tonight’s #Sens game due to a wind warning in the Ottawa region.
Yeah I follow him as well - but are you expecting him to announce his medical condition on twitter?
(BTW - hope his tweets get more "manly" when he's in the NHL)
That sucks! It's a fun way to mingle and pre-party and I'm sure it is wild $$$ for the organization.
F**k Chicago, we should be called the Windy City. Has there been one day the past two weeks that wasn't windy? At least it has shifted to a nice warm wind as opposed to that dastardly chilly north wind we had going lately.
i didnt really mean i expect him to say anything specific baout the condition he may be in, either way im sure he doesnt even know if he will be playin for us this year.
as for the manly tweets, as long as his play stays physical, he can say whatever he wants. plus looking at the way he cuts his hair and dresses, hes just a typical european.
True enough. Same with Petersson really.
Stephen Smith @SensTown
#Sens Rumor: someone at SBP just told me they saw Alfie leave the arena. Looks like he won't play. But just a rumor at this point
Even if he is leaving the building at the moment,no guarantee that it means he's not playing.
He was going for meatballs at Ikea...he will be fine...j/k I know nothing...hope he was just heading home then coming back to the arena, if that would be normal?
Yeah, and unless he suddenly booked for 8 o'clock emergency brain surgery, do you really think he wouldn't be there, in the press box at least watching the game?
Sounds like a silly rumor to me.
Would be totally abnormal actually, but not out of the question I suppose. Maybe MacLean hired an Alfie look-a-like to confuse Torts? Butler in an Alfie costume?
Well, not to lend any credibility to the rumor but ...
If he's experiencing concussion symptoms after all then he wouldn't be sitting the pressbox for the game - he'd be sent home to rest up for game 4.
Maybe went to go get gatorade
I mean, really? At least it's red.
Yeah I suppose that didn't occur to me. It's possible, however if he participated in full skate today it's be a bit of a stretch that being at the (raucous) venue would bother him so much.
We'll know very soon. I wouldn't be surprised at all if MacLean is up to some further roster misinformation once again this evening.
So 12 minutes ago.
Bill McCreary told the NYR and the Sens that penalties will be assess to every player who throws the first punch after a whistle.
Sorry for not being on my phone while i drive to SBP
Not trying to bust your chops - just being funny.
But really, don't text and drive. Not in this wind anyway.
Sens lost 4 in a row after Chirp stepped on the logo - don't think he's even allowed to buy tickets yet.
As long as it wasn't Pierre Dorion
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Hearing Daniel Alfredsson will not play tonight in game 3. #TSN
Win it for Alfie boys!!!!!
That's the smart play by Torts. Talk like you're going to dress a goon and then play a skill guy. He doesn't want to do the same thing as Bylsma and let his team run around like idiots.
who's in?
Props to SensTown for first breaking it as a possibility.
No word yet on who draws in.
Daugavins 2-1 shot.
Klinkhammer 3-1 shot.
Butler long, long shot.
Guess or do you have a source?
Well the boys need to rally around this then. Spezza needs to step up and lead this team where it most matters right now... On the scoreboard
good enough, Bring the hammer!
Okay I don't want to sound like I'm not willing to believe you, but that could mean anything.
Is Klinkhammer a family friend and he told you himself he's playing tonight? Or did a family friend have a hunch they shared with you? Or is your uncle's neighbor the guy who changes the urinal cakes in the men's rooms at SBP?
If you can't reveal or whatever that's fine, but are you saying this is confirmed as far as you're concerned?
TSN is reporting it.
TSN is only saying this:
ALFREDSSON NOT EXPECTED TO PLAY GAME 3 DUE TO CONCUSSION
As for the Red Zone:
NHL_Sens The #RedZone may be closed but the Bonneville model home is still open in lot 6. Stop by for free hot dogs, t-shirts & hats before the game.
For what it's worth and I don't know that Dreger has ever been wrong, just got a text saying Alfie is still a game-time decision. We'll see.
Although based on what others are saying sounds like they need to plan to prepare without Alfie. Who takes his spot in the line up?
http://covervote.nhl.com/:b=chrome/#/ballot
In all the Mayhem we mustn't forget about this. Vote 50 times a day.
Is playing the game with audio, and 1/2 price wings!!!
Adversity has been the Sens' middle name this season! This ain't anything new. The guys will dig deep and find a way to win. Let's go boys!
#Sens Daniel Alfredsson (concussion) will not play in Game 3
Man that sucks...
Why not give this team the best chance to win ?
The way these playoffs are playing out with upsets why not use top end talent
Like I said before time and time again Murray is gold at the draft
..All other hockey decisions horrible
Game over....
Not
GO SENS!!
Who has the C tonight?
I don't believe anyone, they stopped giving it to someone else a few years ago.
Technically Spezza me thinks
ALFIE!!! ALFIE!!! ALFIE!!!
Squad is playing tight, grinding in the corners, I'm loving our game so far!
did I just see a scrum (that involved spezza getting a cheap shot to the head) with cowen and gonchar 20 feet away watching!?!?!?! ?
The old senile guys that vote for the Norris.
Haha...and the sun reported that an insider told them.
Since when did twitter become insider knowledge? Brennan and fat boy...the two worst sports reporters EVER.
Get those Healy sucks chants going. He is diving me nuts with his idiocy.
we are beyond lucky to still be 0-0
Ackk. There goes Healy again. Claiming Spezza covered the puck with his hands in the crease.
What an annoying sack of crap.
SHOOT THE PUCK
at home with the electricity flowing
Dont come out flat and we will be all good
No, the refs are throwing him off his game. Everytime he touches someone they are calling a penalty on him. It's bullshit.
Watch him come out in the third period.
GO SENS GO!
Refs are not responsible for his bad decisions all night wih the puck. Refuse to shoot or dump when he no chance to complete a play. Tough to win wih him playing like that..
Lets not get crazy on spezza over one game
how bout a guy that sucks consistently..
Michalek 0 shots and -1 woot!!!!
Sens forwards just dont block shots...
for another lousy phillips shot attempt
Clearly not the go to guy on a PP, use him as a distraction, the winger was wide open on the other point
Did Phillips really need to 2 hand slash him, he was on his backhand...
SOMEBODY FINISH!!!!
What game are you watching?
(he gets credit for a shot with 20 seconds left)
Sad excuse for a top 3 player when the going gets tough
3 shots in 3 playoff games on Line 1...
average of 1 shot per game...Pathetic
Anyone who thinks this guy is a sniper, or even a top 6 forward, I laugh at you
CUE THE LONG OVER DUE LINE SHAKE UP
**** EDIT, They gave Michalek credit for a shot with 20 seconds left bahahahah
thanks for showing up bud
SERENITY NOW!
Now I know why Phx quit on the kid cuz he doesnt show up when it matters most.
Hope the next captian of are team is Chris Neil or Erik Karlsson
your a fuckin loser, try lundqvist is an awesome fucking goalie and nobody fucking scored on him. games fuckin over give it up game 4 is next
better team my ass, they got 1 goal and won the game, there goalie is all they have, if we bring this game the rest of the way and they STILL some how win this series they are done against a diff opponent, getting worked all over the ice and relying on ur goalie vs the 8th seed , they are a joke 1st place team
We don't need a$$ hole like you here. Lundqvist will win the Vezina this year and it's exactly because of great saves like this one.
I really hope there is no lock-out next season cause this young team will be exciting to watch.
Very dissapointed with Spezza tonight though.
There you go someone with a fucking head on his shoulders, try getting Spezza some fucking players WHO CAN SCORE!
Fuck Condra, Fuck Michalek, fuck Greening, fuck Turris...Go and get a fucking GOALSCORER!
no goals = LOSSES!
Spezza gave 3 different guys the puck on a platter and they cant even lift the goddamn puck in an open net!
SPEZZA!!!!!!!!!!!! he was horrible.
C'mon boys, you're killing me
Also doesn`t help that Alfie isn`t playing. He better play on Wednesday.
I still don`t know why Mark Parrish hasn`t been given a chance, the guy has tons of experience (amazing on the PP)and is a legit goal scorer when given a chance to play with a top notch center like Spezza. Experience wins out over youth on this one.
Lundquist and a lucky bounce is why we lost not because our team wasn't awesome
For you to come on here and spew your shit is pathetic.
Truly pathetic.
Here's to the win in game 4. Looks like this series will go the distance.
GO SENS GO
Fucktard, the Leaf forum is next door.
This from a guy who honors Heatley in his name...keep smoking what your smoking bro.
looking from a better effort from Spezza and Neil next game.
and the guy who knows nothing about hockey makes a quote on someone elses name........
Wrong again Fucktard
Are you ever right about anything?
I guess now its ok to use the double standard excuse, Lunny sure wasnt Vezina worthy when we beat them 3 out of 4 and twice with him in nets. Now that he's shown up for the playoffs he's all Vezina hype and stealing the show.
Its typical Sens fans excuses.
Actually I thought Gonchar was really solid tonight. The Sens won't go without fighting. I love this bunch of guys. MacClean outcoached Tortilini tonight again.
If they keep this effort, the Sens can win a few more games in this series
Do you think you are fooling anyone?
We outplayed them and outshot them 39 shots on net.
I thought we played great the Butler we have been looking for all season is back.
Nitpicking some players like Spezza is crazy, he is giving his all like every other player.
The Arena was loud, loved it.
"Its typical Sens fans excuses"
There you go folks. Proven Fuctard. Your Leaf forum is next door.
There is no way that was Spezza's "All" tonight. He looked like he had fucking chronic fatigue
If your view of this game was that the Rangers outplayed the Sens for the bulk of the night and deserved to win, then your new name is accurate.
Imagine being a Hab, Oil, flame, Jet or Leaf fan right now. Your team aint even in the show. I live in TO and love driving around this city with my Sens flag flying on the car.
Tookie I agree that the Sens need a finisher that can put that piece of rubber in the back of the net.
I actually though that Gonchar played a solid game, he hip checked I think Girardi pretty nicely, he was physical. Only Gilroy has been completely useless, he is not physical at all, can't even lay down a body check.
Even though Lee got picked higher than he should have, I have never been a Lee hater. Lee would have been perfect for this series.
Spezza absolutely struggled in the first 40 minutes. It's was very clear he wanted to win so badly he was pushing every high risk edge on the ice. However, fans paying attention would have seen that in the finale frame he settled down and set up numerous scoring chances. He was exactly what we want out of him in that last period. If Spezza can keep his game under control and just simplify things a little bit he'll be just fine.
I can't really find much fault with the rest of the team. Everyone worked their ass off and generated 40 shots. You can complain about Michalek all you want Zipshit but defensively he was very good. This was a 1-0 hockey game not a 10 goal track meet. The tough match-up our 1st line is battling against opens up ice for the other 3.
Turris and Karlsson were easily the best Sens after Anderson. People who don't realize how well Turris played tonight are flat out blind. It cannot be ignored how many battles he's winning and how much he creates for his linemates. Shift after shift of that line killing their match-up tonight and without Alfie.
If Alfie is good to go for game 4 he'll probably join the top line. Give that line a chance to win it's match-up and let Turris, Foligno, and Butler keep on kicking ass on the 2nd.
Go Sens Go! Support them or fuck off. They're playing great for a team in year 1 of a rebuild. Seriously, fucking bunch of emotional pussies on here tonight.
Great response without the Captain in the lineup. We'll get em game 4 and tie it up! Also kudos to the crowd for jacking the building up by far much better than the fans at MSG.
Sens have clearly been the better squad against the so called mighty Rangers and I am very proud. I don't see how anyone can blast the team for tonight. They were terrific.
Can't wait till Wednesday.
GO SENS GO
Turris got robbed by who is widely (and almost unanimously) regarded as the best goaltender in the league. Why it is his fault, I do not know.
While I didn't think Spezza had his greatest game in terms of offensive dominance, I feel he made up for it in several different ways. He saved a goal for us - absolutely robbed the Rangers of a goal in a 0-0 game. I haven't heard anyone talking about that play...just pure shit spewing. He was throwing body checks all over the place which is incredibly rare for Spezza. Sometimes the offensive juices just don't flow and you try to do too much.
Butler was the player we all fell in love with last year. He got so much shit this season it was unbelievably. He came into a HUGE game and played like a man on fire.
Foligno was incredible for us again tonight. The kid is proving that he is a second line player, finally. He probably could have potted a couple tonight but once again, we were playing against the best goalie in the league, and one of the best defenses in the league.
Cowen was one of the best Senators on the ice tonight if you ask me. The kid played like he was a grizzled veteran. Made some amazing (but not necessarily "big television" defensive plays in this game and made some good decisions with the puck.
Karlsson was Karlsson.
Phillips played what was easily his best game in a Sens uni since our cup run in 07. He was great. Made some big plays and held that blueline together.
And then there was Anderson. Do I even need to say anything about him?
What game were you watching ? lol
Stop making excuses and trying watching the game ..
Spezza was shit ..Milo was Slow and looked tired
Folingo was the Best player
Stache had a grinder with are top talent all night
Are PP was .... there isnt a word for how bad that was
There was a handful of guys that just out worked the Rags but dont have the skill to finish
But the whole team was great. Impressed from everyone of them.
We can win the series we just need too add finishers
I was thinking he was going to shoot, but no, he ended making a pass to turris in front of the net despite Turris being covered.
If I remember correctly, Spezza scored a goal on Rangers, by skating across the slot and wristing a shot past through lundqvist in a 3-0 win they had a while back. He was under similar circumstances today, but chose to pass instead.
Absolutely agree 100% with ChrisT. Effort level was through the roof tonight. Easily the best and hardest working I have seen this team play this season. Who would have thought the Sens would out hit the Rangers! Dominated in every category except on the scoreboard. Unfortunately that's where it counts. They ran into a hot goalie, though, and nothing more.
The bashing really is completely out of line after a game like this. I really question the team's fan base at times, especially after comments like these. I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and remember 1) we were expected to finish 15th in the East this year and 2) we likley just played our best playoff game since the 2007 cup run against the top seed in the East and didn't look one bit out of place, in fact it was New York that looks like the questionable top seed.
Thats where most people make the mistake, you think a guy like Parise or Iginla just watch play develop? A pure goalscorer would have buried that beauty pass from Spezza after undressing Lundqvist...Tur ris was just watching Spezza in awe...we need a goal scorer badly.
The fans brought it all night long and I spent most of the game jumping outta my seat or sitting on the edge. There were a few plays where our guys double clutched before shooting which was likely the difference. With that said, it's hard to one time a puck that won't settle down.
Nothing but good things from that game!
Keep at it Boys....
Oh and Cowen is looking more and more like a big game player...wow he was possessed tonight
Bobby! There you are! Where have you been!
Loved the effort tonight, we played good enough to win and ran into a supremely talented tender.
Get'em in G4... Go Sens Go!
P.s. Very proud of our fans tonight! Awesome support for the boys. Way to go Ottawa!
Am I the only one that doesn’t understand why Greening isn’t on the top line? He played his best hockey there all year and it was the only place he ever produced points?
Thought Bobby played a decent game considering all the circumstances but it was a pretty typical game. Every shot came from the far perimeter and he skated around at 100 miles per hour and didn’t seem to accomplish much. With the guys coming in next year there won’t be room for him. This will be his last stint in the sens top 6 before he gets moved in the offseason.
Butler was amazing last night and played his heart out. Anderson stood on his head. Condra, Neil, Konopka, Karlsson all played amazing. Spezza probably had his worst game in a while but he is going to learn from it and come out hard on Wednesday.
As fans we need to support our team when they are not riding the emotional high of a win, that's our job. Stop being bandwagon fans and ride this out until the end. We surprised everyone by making the playoffs, so lets just enjoy it while it's around.
We played a phenomenal game. I'm very proud of the way we played. You cannot discredit Lundquist. There's a reason why he was arguably the best tender all year.
Major respect to Andy. This is how we need him to play.
It's up to the players in front of him to get the job done. I thought Butler played well for his first playoff game of the series, and Karl seemed to have stepped up. That 2 on 1 defensive play had me out of my seat. I thought for sure they were going to score! It was really one of those games where I kept thinking, if Alfie were there, we would have scored.
Let's bounce back and take the next game though!
This series is far from over but whatever happens this team is growing by leaps and bounds right in front of our eyes.
I thought most of the guys played a great game. I really liked the way Butler came in and played in Alfie's absence on the second line with Turris and Foligno.
Smith played his best game of the series by far. Pretty much every one of our forwards did their job except for Michalek and Spezza.
Milo was invisible and Spezza played his worst game by far. I just don't understand it. Spezza finally shakes off his reputation of being a soft, one-dimensional player, and then he goes out and has a series like this.
We need you Spezz. Show us why you're one of the best players in the world.
This is the way the Rangers won the majority of their games this year. Looks like you have to face 6 goalies. all the players are jumping all over the place to stop the puck. If we keep working them hard like last night, they will get so tired, we will then have our chances to win some games.
I believe.
F*Ck OFF, and F* You!
Honestly, that was a great effort, a great game last night!
If it wasn't for Spezza, we would not be at the Play-Offs at all.
We'll get them Game 4, 5 and 6.
As well, the crowd at SBP was amazing. I have never been to a game before that left my ears ringing by the end of the night. Great job Sens and great job Ottawa fans for really showing some amazing spirit last night. Let's show them what we've got in game 4.
Alfie wasn't the only difference last night. If it wasn't for the Rangers' goaltending, the score easily could have been in Ottawa's favour. As well, the Sens had way to many open net opportunities that were not buried. The young kids are thinking too long before releasing the puck. Alfie's presence was missed, but not the difference maker in the loss last night.
Kuba actually had a pretty solid game last night. Gilroy on the other hand is way too soft and needs to sit.
