With the first game jitters out of the way, the Senators will obviously be looking to take their game to another level. Look for the Sens to establish more of a physical presence in the early going as that was certainly an element lacking on Thursday night.
An improved power play will also be critical to Ottawa's success. They were an ugly 0 for 5 in the series opener and really struggled to gain the Ranger line with control of the puck.
After the trio was able to have some success late in Game 1, MacLean may load up the top line to start, putting Alfredsson with Michalek and Spezza. While the combinations have changed, no line up changes are expected. Carkner, Butler, Klinkhammer and Konopka are healthy scratches. Here is how the Sens lined up at the morning skate.
Michalek-Spezza-Alfredsson
Foligno-Turris-Condra
Greening-Smith-Neil
Daugavins-O'Brien-Winchester
Kuba-Karlsson
Phillips-Gilroy
Cowen- Gonchar
Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7:00 PM with the game available on CBC. For those looking to stream, check the CBC website as they will have the game available there.
- While Mika Zibanejad is unlikely to join the team after suffering a possible concussion, it does sound like Mark Stone will be hanging around for the playoff run. The Sens organization likes the idea of having the young guys around to learn a little bit about the playoff experience at the pro level. The organization could get another boost in the very near future in the form of Jakob Silfverberg if Brynas can wrap up their series this weekend.
- In other Sens related news, the organization has renewed their affiliation with Binghamton for another three years. While it has been an ugly year down on the farm, this is great news for the city of Binghamton. Had a chance to go down there a couple times during last year's Calder Cup run and I can tell you, that city loves their hockey team. Great to hear the team will be staying there for the foreseeable future.
Not happy about no changes to the lineup either...we got thee shit kicked out of us left right and center last game....Hopeful ly it is the right call.
There has to be a place that would appreciate our players more that the team could be moved to.
We need to win this game and come back to our barn.
Does anyone know what the Brynas series is at and when the next game is?
"Alfredsson starting on top line is not set in stone. (we) may start with original lines"
yeah because that first line is so golden and clutch lately
Why not toss out the same stale old PP too while you are at it
Does he want to lose?
This is shit he should have been experimenting with at the end of the season when greening, Michalek and the PP were showing little signs of life
If the lines get changed then GO SENS
If not, let the sweep continue
Shots on net last game
Greening 1
Michalek 2
Spezza 5
Alfie 5
Pretty easy to separate the boys from the men
Put those two eggs in one basket and let all the other idiots do what ever it is they do for 60 minutes
3-0 brynas ... Sweep tomorrow Silfverberg and Stone in for game 4
ANYHOO GO SENS GO!
WIN ONE for SILFVERBURG!
It's time for Zack Smith to step up as well. He had such an incredible start to the season and he's been absolutely invisible in the last few months, including game one the other night. If he's not going to play on the edge and move his feet then get his ass out of the line-up as well.
It's time for the bingo brigade to step their game up and show us why they are worthy of all those one way contracts they were given.
I too would have liked to see Carkner in todays game but I guess Maclean thinks these are the best players to excute his system. Personally, the Sens have to be tougher & dish out the harder checks. They have to play with a nastier edge & go after Gaborik, Richards, Callaghan & Lundquist. With no one to stand up to Rupp or Boyle it could be another long night. They will need some luck bounces tonight to win.
Thanks for the valuable input
my point, in case it was too subtle, is bash the players, the effort all you want, when you start to play coach it just gets embarrassing.
Go Sens
Pretty ridiculous point.
You say it isn't cool to bash the coach because he played for years and actually coaches in the nhl....But in your next breath say it is kosher to bash the players....who unless you are aren't aware also play in the NHL.
Make up your mind.
Just some ideas, not that I claim to have any authority in the matter of coaching!
Agree 100%...
People need to chill out. There's a reason why he picked the players he did for game one..they are the best we have. Why would he change that after 1 loss? Some of you are saying to swap players in and out. That's just pure stypidity. To me that sounds like a comment coming from a nerd who has never played a sport in their life. Any athlete knows you get in a groove and its very hard to get emotionaly psyched up again after being in the press box. Paul Maclean definiely knowd what he's doing and even if we loose there should be absolutely NO blame on him.
Clearly players need to step it up. I think they will. I'm expecting the boys to hit everrything in sight for the first 10min of the game. We need Neil to K.O Callahan and shut that crowd up. Then things will take care of themselves
DUH.
I don't think anyone is against discussion or offering different opinions - or even questioning decisions by MacLean or Murray etc.
I think what some people (myself at least) just don't enjoy people trying to say the coach is an idiot or other such trolling.
I've seen one person do such...and Hax I know you post often enough to know the best aproach is to ignore said person as all they are doing is trying to invoke a reaction.
I couldn't agree more - just saying that I think the people saying "don't bash the coach" are reacting to one troll in particular. I'm with you, they should just completely ignore, but at least they're not replying directly which is a step in the right direction.
I trust MacLean but certainly if it was me I might have at least swapped in Klinkhammer and Carkner if only to keep some fresh legs out there.
I can only assume that he's got a plan and good reason for sticking with his lineup (assuming he does). Maybe he's trying to send the message of "don't look for anyone else to bail you out - go win the game on your own".
Go Sens Go
I think the only change in the lineup that would make a serious impact is adding Silvferberg somewhere in the top 6.
Everyone else like Carkner or Klinkhammer would at most add 2 or 3 hits to the stat sheet (I think everyone that is in the current lineup can do this already...just need to step it up). Yes Carkner can hit but can't handle the puck for shit and is far too slow to keep up with players like Callahan. Klinkhammer yes has speed but other than that is useless. I say keep the lineup the way it is. We can beey these guys
You can hold whatever opinion you want but you come off as a massive toolbag. It's pretty obvious PM would like to be able to play Alfie & Spezza separately because they both generate so much by themselves. The team is deeper and harder to shut-down with those two guys on different lines. The only reason to put them together is if the team is absolutely flat or behind by 1 or 2 goals in the last 10 minutes of a game. Then you double-shift them and go for broke. Pretty standard hockey philosophy there.
Crosby & Malkin
Datsyuk & Zetter
Toews & Kane
Bergeron & Horton
Heatley-Aflie-Spezza
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin
Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
The top three won Stanley Cups spreading out their top talents. The bottom three put all their eggs in one basket and came up short.
I love how you simplify the game like it's just so obvious to put them together. I wouldn't mind PM giving Alfie and Spezza shifts together but you absolutely must acknowledge Ottawa's second line will be greatly weakened when we do that. We will effectively become mostly a 1-line hockey team. They get it done or we lose. Much easier to match up against as well.
Smith hasn't been the same since his injury a few months ago.
We know Neil is playing hurt as well.
I'm sure they will target Callahan today. IF Boyle starts up on Karlsson again.. he will get his in Ottawa on Monday.. someone will muscle will be put in the lineup...
I got Healy, I'm a little older than him but I think I could still tune him up "pretty good!"
You are never in trouble until you lose one at home...SENs in Six!
Turris Spezza Alfie
Greening folingo Milo
Klink Smith Neil
Winnie JOB Condra
Cowen Karlsson
Kuba gonchar
Phillips Gilroy
If Neil is not 100% then he shouldn't be in the line-up.
from Michalek - Spezza - Alfredsson on Line 1.
There is no chemistry for whatever reason with that line
combination.
I would much prefer to have 2 scoring lines made up from
Foligno - Spezza - Michalek
Greening - Turris - Alfredsson
Or simply go back to original line combos, that worked for 15 games a few weeks ago !!
It's 3:10 and they are still doing warm ups
Its only the playoffs right
but tonights win was all thanks to 22 year old Brynas netminder Niklas Svedberg (wonder if any NHL teams look at him as a undrafted player to sign, this year the SEL has produced about 4 or 5 very impressive goalies, although atleast half of them are already drafted)
game 4 is tomorrow, i will do my best to find and post a stream for anyone interested in watching the game. might have him here sooner than some thought!
edit: i see im late on posting this score
I'm stuck at a family get together this evening. I may not be able to locate a tv to watch tonight's game. Anybody know of a good reliable internet feed i can watch the game from on my iPhone??
Many thanks in advance!!!
GO SENS GO!!
Is your iPhone jailbroken? You can only watch flash streams if it is!
I like the wiziwig forum for streams. Search google for "wiziwig forum nhl" and it's the top hit.
Yup my iphone is in fact jailbroken! Is your wiziwig advice for jailbroken iphones??
Greening - Spezza - Michalek
Klinkhammer - Turris - Alfredsson
Z. Smith - Foligno - Butler
O'Brien - Winchester - Neil
Extra Forwards: Daugavins - Konopka - Condra
Cowen - Karlsson
Kuba - Gonchar
Phillips - Carkner/Gilroy extra
Anderson - Bishop/Auld extra
It's for streams.
Yeah was just going to post that... it came from Bruce Boudreau...
Boudreau is a frustrated fatass, should go eat some nachos while sitting on his fat bum

BEAUTIFUL!
If we lose, we could be toast in 4-5 games.
Need a huge effort from all the players
and we can win to tie the series!!
BELIEVE IT !!!!!!!!!
We are going to win tonight boys!
Carkner and Konopka in!!!
Neil Konopka Smith Carkney Cowen. YESSSS MacleN you are a frigen beauty!
Crazy? Let's see a brawl!
Daugavins out and Konopka in ??
Must be getting ready for a few battles !!
Let's f..... Boyle and the rangers up and not only beat them
By score but physically as well
WOOH GO SENS GO
bring it boys!
Duby got 2, and 10.
No he didn't. That fucker has 100 pounds on Karlsson and went after him Thursday. Now he turtles like a little bitch when someone his own size steps up.
Now haters haha
carkner jumps boyle: boyle turtles
lesson: dont dish out what you can't take
bad call on gonchar
From what this seems to be, this could end up being one of the ugliest Sens games since the famous Sabres/Sens brawl in 2008 (?)
And there u have it, no dub no problem. Carkner put us in a bad hole...
They won't get pushed around tonight.. but guys concentrate on the game.. forget Boyle.. he just labelled himself a chicken.. Takes on a player 8 in and about 100 lbs lighter than himself.. but won't answer the bell with Carkner -- but he did with Neil...
Can anyone pinpoint exactly what we're doing wrong? Aside from not taking that many shots and deserting our goalie so that Callahan could be all alone with no D in sight? I love the idea of our prospects being called up just to get a bird's eye view of what it's like in the pros. Mark Stone please take note we can't wait to see you soon.
Finally, did the CBC hand over all the emails and have them printed out for Healy to read? He has definitely toned it down for probably the first time I've ever listened to him.
To be even at 10 in the shot column with 2 minor and a major is real good.
Once again a goal on a bad penalty call. So many goals where score vs us this year on undeserved penalty its crazy.
I'm wondering if Carkner is going to get extra punishment from the league. What do you guys think
Carkner may get a game but Boyle is going to get thrown out of the league when they realise in stead of balls, he's got a vagina and should play women's hockey.
He'll get BIG suspension for that.
No way the league will give him more, he already got almost an entire game. I sure hope MacClean dress him again on Monday. I'm sure the Rags will be like kittens in our barn.
Now coach, please tell everyone to shoot that damn puck on every occasion.

Why? Whe've seen that before.
Carkner will get nothing, boyle got nothing. Fair game, game on
Why? Because he's not Shea Weber. He's a #6-7 D-man.
He suckered Boyle and pounded his face in (no matter how deserved) so they'll gong him for at least a game.
rangers should have got a delay of game in The begining of the 2nd.
This penalty was BULLSHIT! This happens ALL THE TIME!
Exactly, Boyle never dropped Karlsson, they were gloved soft jabs, Carkner sucker punched Boyle then full mount pummel...and put us down in the hole...
it was a good hockey play, drop it.
Message well delivered, want to fuck with Karlsson, be prepared for a beating.
Please get here soon, Jakob.
Awesome first period.
And where are the people who were saying I was wrong for being upset with no lineup changes??
Fucking karlsson and no call what bjllshit
running alfredsson and karlsson
own goal!
Boyle kicking it in instead of Del Zotto.
LMAO at Healy for once not being biased. Bout time you watched the fuck out.
C'Mon guys!!!!!!!!
GO SENS GO! WAKE UP SPEZZ we need you.
he'll be fired up too, remember spezzas first playoffs? Like that!
Sorry to constantly reiterate but I still can't get over how Healy has toned it down with his comments. I hope this persists because honestly, it gets frustrating to listen to someone constantly putting any team down. Way to be professional sir.
Regular season means NOTHING if we get swept 4-0. I can't watch these Rangers push us around like this.
Thank goodness we had that fluke goal by Karl.
Spezza is trying to do wayyy too much.
Milan needs to use his speed more.
Solid third period! Come on, and let's win this 2-1.
Boyle saw him coming... all he had to do was be a man and drop his gloves... and he wouldn't of got punched in the face.
The panel on TSN thinks he should be suspended as well.
All this anti-Sens garbage going on is really getting me pissed off.
Boyle is more than willing to pick on a smaller player by SUCKER PUNCHING him in the face several times but turtles when faced by the Sens tough guy...
Big brave Mr. Boyle... Oh and Hagelin... keep your head up -- they should have given you a game.. because someone is coming for your head next.
Time to start on Callahan.. they take out our Captain.. we take out theres.
Is that the last of Alfie's career? If he has a concussion he is done for the playoffs... and will he come back.
I hope the rest of them win the game for him.
Needs to have that second one
Was thinking the same. Plus they are taking way to much time on rebound, Lundqvist always has to much time to move back in position.
goal tied at 2
fuckin cheap ass rangers
here comes OT,
lets Go Sens!
ot hero is neil!
NEIL
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
GSG!!
WOOO SENS IN 5!!
Did you hear me scream??
Man oh man my voice hurts from that one yell bwahahaha
YEAH BABY!
Fucking Hagelin should be suspended!!! Hope Alfie is OK!
GO SENS GO
Decided that I wasn't going to make any predictions or even post any message today as he seemed that all of my predictions were bad this week!
It was so hard not to comment here but it was well worth it! LOL
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE GAME! I was smiling ear to ear from puck drop when MacLean pulled a fast one on Torts and changed the line right off the bat! And then Carkner!!!! WOW!!! LOVE IT!
GO SENS GO!!!!
Next game, retribution for Alfie. Time to knock out Callaghan.
"no celebration yet boys....we still have 3 more wins before we start shaking hands"
Loved it classic!
Go fuckin SENS go!'!!!!!!!!!!! !!
poor kid, I woke him up when the puck slid by and then kept yelling as we scored HAHA
I am so pumped right now but can't help think about our beloved captain. Hope Alfie is ok
I Heard you TCharger and I'm in Rockland hahaha
To all of those that say Konopka doesn't bring anything to the table he proved you wrong tonight by bringing the edge to the Sens players. Knowing full well refs weren't calling stuff after the whistle he has the RAnger player in a head lock on the ice hahaha Love it !!
Great job SENS !!! I just hope Alfie will be alright and Hagelin gets suspended. Rangers we're getting away with murder tonight.
amazing, great night.
Cheers Sens fans!
I am so pumped...I want to go out!
And I officially am not wearing Sens gear on game days anymore...last 4 games I wore my Jersey or alfie 1000 game shirt and we get creamed....toda y nothing and we came out firing.
I promise to go gearless for the rest of our run boys!
Chicago game on TSN.
GSG!
What win Boyz. we have home ice advantage now.
Fuck this feels great. Keep them W's coming boys. Only a matter of time before are big guns count on the score board. So happy for Foligno and Neil.
Kj
woot woot!
im at game three! Hagelin should be gone for the post season. that was blatant head hunting on a star player
Lol same here, got all decked out thursday and nothin today!
Will be going to game 3 , lets give the rangers an ear full!!!
you can take this to the bank; if i ever see healey out in public I'm going to slap him in the face....
Imagine how great this series will be when Spez and Michalek start playing...
My guess is the ice at SBP will help.
Let's hope Alfie is ok and will be back and let's see Hagelin get 3 games.
Go Sens!!!
Apparently a dose of Carkner wasn't enough to send that message... Right or wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed that fisticuff.
I love our coach, he's the man. Now let's hope Silverberg win tomorrow so he can replace Alfie if it's serious next Wednesday.
Go Sens Go
Neil - Konopka - Carkner = Fuck shit up. Believe it!
I also have said in the past that Konopka wasn't very useful. Well again I was wrong. He was a beauty.
What i wasn't wrong was about our absolutely amazing coach. This guy was a genius and brought the house, in terms of our team toughness. I mean our team has more toughness throughout the l,lineup than just about any team. But we can flip it around and become a fast skill team in an instant. I honestly have so much faith in Paul Maclean. I loop bed the opening face-off fast one. And clearly he told our team to just beet on them....if they try anything, huts feed them non stop which our team definitely did. I loved it. When can you remember a Sens team fom the past that could evenly match up in terms of pure meanness ... NEVER!!
Mad props to Paul Maclean and Bryan Murray!!!!
And if Alfie can't play, Petersson?
alfie will be back
spezza has to sep it up
karlsson gets 6 million per over 8 years.
Chyeahhhh, even Shanahan knows what the fuck is right. I don't think he had much of a choice. Otherwise he'd probably be under investigation for being biased to a former team. Get well soon Alfie.
I cannot believe how many negative comments on the topic while we win against the conference champs. Honestly tookie scroll up an read your comments throughout the game. Must be a drag watching games with you. Me and my tenant (who happens to be a leafs fan) were chearing our hearts out the while game...what a battle won!!!! Alfies loss will be hard to swallow if its serious though.
for me its more just interesting they came out so fast with that he has a hearing, but nothing has come up for carkner, maybe he will get away with nothing or fine
"Hey guy, I know I left before, but with a top line position available..."
#BSens Coach Kurt Kleinendorst and Assistant Coach Steve Stirling will both be going to Ottawa to work with #Sens' Black Aces.
It's no surprise that it took Puempel this long to score for the fact that he had to have been rusty from his concussion, and he was playing fourth line role. Today he got a minor promotion in playing third line.
Here's hoping it's not that serious and he can play next game!
GO SENS GOOOO
Matt Carkner has a hearing with Brendan Shanahan. He's second in line behind Carl Hagelin. Confirmed. #NHL
Two/three games??
If Alfie is out for game 3, then I hope the SENS call up and give Mark Parrish a chance.
He's a RW with 700+ NHL games, 7 +20 goal seasons, a powerplay specialist and playing for the ISLES in the past knows all about the RANGERS. I know with the rebuild there was no point on using him. But this is the playoffs and experience goes a long way. Look at guys like Recchi and what they have brought to the table. With guys like Condra and O'Brien only getting 7-8 minutes he could easily take their place. Also being the captain in BINGO, his leadership could come in handy.nv79d
The line-up could look like this
Michalek-Spezza-Parrish
Foligno-Turris-Greening
Winchester-Smith-Neil
Konopka-O'brien-Condra
Kuba-Karlsson
Phillips-Carkner
Cowen- Gonchar
I am hoping for that optimism too, guess we shall have to wait to hear more today on his condition, but when he got up off the ice, he looked dazed and out of his wits, which doesn't sound good at all. I was thinking the same as Tookie, captain gone, ottawa is done, but this team just keeps pleasantly surprising me and I love it, I am by no means a negative fan, but was being what I thought was realistic. There is a fight in this Senators team that I have never seen there, and I hope we keep taking it to them come game 3 in Scotiabank Place, can't wait to hear the crowd go nuts while watching it on CBC, and hopefully Lyndon Slewidge is singing the anthem.
Spezza has to show up for the SHOW!
Tookie you clearly showed last night that you in fact know nothing about hockey.
What Carkner did tonight was win the series for us!!
Why? Simple ....
Karlsson will now be able to relax and play his game, our best player will now be afforded that extra time and space to do what he does best and let's be honest we didn't have a chance unless Karlsson was at his best.
I would be saying the same thing had the Rangers scored a few goals on the 5min pp.
I have mad props for what Carkner did last night!!!!
Kudos to Neiler! What a guy. How could you not love him.
Nothing else can be said man, major props, this team keeps proving me wrong...love it!!!
I do have a bad feeling about Alfie, he looked quite dazed. This could. End up uniting us even more.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=627882
better be a fine only
hagelin better be 5 games for clear target of head
shannahan is ex ranger who does not like ottawa, and did not do anything last time alfie was elbowed in the head in new york......
Yet Carkner gets a hearing???
The type of goals that stone gets, is the type we are going to need to beat Lundquist in this series.
will be surprised if Hagelin gets anything...shou ld have been a game misconduct, but yet only a 5 min major, starting to sense a bias against the Sens here somewhere in the league, yet despite all that adversity, still pull off a win in the big apple, but at a huge cost, out our captain I would say the rest of the playoffs.
Well for one, Boyle didn't fight Karlsson, Boyle jabbed him with his gloves on. Carkner fully sucker punched Boyle and then pummeled him. If u can't see the difference, I don't know what to tell u.
Carkner had no intent to play hockey that game, he was inserted for 1 purpose, he should he suspended.
Hagelin I have no doubt. Will be. Suspended.
