Some good news on the injury front as defenceman Matt Carkner declared himself available for tomorrow night. That means that the Sens head into this series with everyone healthy which was reiterated by MacLean this morning when he said that all players are available.
Based on the way the Sens have lined up this week, it appears as though Klinkhammer and Butler will be the healthy scratches up front. MacLean still has to decide whether Matt Gilroy or Matt Carkner will grab the last spot on the blue line.
Here is how the Sens forwards lined up this morning.
Greening-Spezza-Michalek
Foligno-Turris-Alfie
Smith-O'Brien-Neil
Daugavins-Winchester-Condra
One more sleep. That’s all that separates us from the dizzying highs and heartbreaking lows of playoff hockey.
Nothing really compares to this time of year for a diehard hockey fan. The temperature starts to warm up and a smell of spring is in the air. The days get a little longer and the sun is still up when game time arrives. The hangovers become a little more frequent and that game day nervousness creeps in even though you know it’s something that is beyond your control.
It’s about watching a fan base, a city, a country, rally around something that is bigger than ourselves.
It’s playoff hockey, and it’s just one sleep away.
GO SENS GO!
- Mika Zibanejad, who skated on the Sens top line at yesterday’s practice, will make his Binghamton Senators debut on Friday night. We know Paul MacLean is at least toying with the idea of using Zibanejad in this series but clearly it won’t be in the first couple games.

For those of you that may have missed the discussion in the comment section, one of our readers has been nice enough to set up a pool using thescore.com. Pretty cool system where you need to stay below the salary cap and can pick a new team each round. Head here to sign up. League name is “SensChirp Playoffs 2012” and the password is chirprlz. I’ll see what I can do about setting up a prize as well but since I plan on winning, expect the prize to be a pat on the back.
And I am torn about Gilroy/Carkner. ..I want to like Gilroy but my god I am having trouble.
My god I am excited for our game to start though...I really hope we come out flying and take games 1. Take off even more pressure.
For those who missed it in the last post, Bob MacKenzie reports:
"Paul Devorski-Dan O'Rourke in VAN tonight. NHL series supervisor Rob Shick. Terry Symonds on U.S. anthem, Mark Donnelly on Oh Canada."
That should put to rest that NASTY rumour O'Rourke was doing our series. Great news, thank god!
Only difference is Christmas you can peek and see what's coming your way...
I love the enthusiasm! I am pretty wracked also. I have a 9am meeting Friday morning, I better attach a sticky-note to my alarm clock that says "REMINDER: DRINK 1 LITRE OF SCOPE BEFORE YOU GO TO WORK!!!"
Won't drinking 1 litre of scope get you more drunk!? Or are you hoping that by drinking more you will remain hungover enough to be sober!?!?
Doesn't work?
The rangers were taking liberties on hitting karlsson alot last game and he felt it the next day.
With carkner in the lineup players will think twice before taking a run and Carkner has a bomb of a shot that will hurt shot blockers, a good way to start the series if you ask me.
I can tell you what's coming! SENS ARE GOING TO KICK SOME RANGER TAIL!
How the heck you managed that.... wow! That is probably so uncommon, if someone was bored enough or had a computer algorithm we could probably figure our your exact team, seriously! Crazy.
Haha I can't for the life of me remember what I had before either.
For those who missed it in the last post, Bob MacKenzie reports:

God Bless Rush, my nerves were already rattled and it was 24 hours before puck drop... Lovey was already worried about the furniture :)
Also thanks for setting up the hockey pool, I do hope I have time to get in on it, sounds like a lot of fun
I picked players I liked from the teams I thought would win the first round...and then tweaked a few players at the end as a had a few thousand to play with. Mind you, I've got Andy and Elliot as my goalies, not even sure if Elliot will play. I'm hoping Andy dominates the Rangers like during the regular season.
A: SUCKING IT!!!!!
GO SENS GO!
Gilroy would have added motivation though as the Rangers were the team that signed him out of college. He's going to want to show them they made a mistake by sending him to Tampa.
Yeah my entire body was flooded with a sense of relief when I read the "O'Rourke news".
The hockey pool was terribly easy to set up thanks to TheScore.com and frankly it was Tchargers idea I just helped get us signed up. Cheers!
I bet absolutely every team will have Karlsson...barg ain at his current rate.
Without a shadow of a doubt! I was amazed how few people chose Spezza, only 6.6%.
Shhhhhhhh!
Haha. Yeah I'm sure most everyone clued into that. It's all about finding the points/$$$ bargains! :)
I agreed about the points/$$$ bargains but there are always sentimental picks, ie. Michalek, Alfie, etc, who are expensive but I couldn't NOT pick them! :)
I'll be watching tonight just to get prepared for playoff hockey. Nothing beats it. Can't wait till tomorrow.
Loving this pool, the $ amount works great. I have $39,378 remaining and I can't decide if I should change a few players around. The fact we get to change each round is great, so I guess it's a matter of who you think will produce the most each round, even if they don't make it past the 1st. Can you believe that EK is only worth $1,300,000?? That's a steal if you ask me.
So many people making predictions on the playoffs, I honestly have not focused much on anyone besides the Sens since they made it. So looking at tonights matches, my thoughts on who will advance when it's all said and done are as follows:
Pittsburgh 5 games
Los Angeles 7 games
Nashville - 6 games
Oh yeah, about the Oilers and snagging the 1st for a third year. Wow, just wow. I find it hard to believe you can land so many good picks and STILL continue at the bottom of the standings. Makes me wonder if they'll trade that 1st for 2 picks in the 1st to try and land a top D and Subban. Oilers need D and a Goalie and it's already been said they want to draft and build, rather than trade. So trading a 1st for multiple picks makes sense. The Caps may have two 1st round picks if they choose to take the 11th overall pick from the Avalanche. That or they swap with Toronto for a few of there D, which nobody really wants. Lol
"I hope that next year we will be in this position again. Well not ..."
After that I knew that the next year(this year)that the Oilers would get the first overall.
Time to fulfill my promise.
I have only $106 421 left. Here are all my players.
Krejci, David
Sharp, Patrick
Filppula, Valtteri
Radulov, Alexander
Datsyuk, Pavel
Giroux, Claude
Seguin, Tyler
Couture, Logan
Jagr, Jaromir
Malkin, Evgeni
Asham, Arron
Peverley, Rich
Chara, Zdeno
Karlsson, Erik
Kronwall, Niklas
Letang, Kris
Shattenkirk, Kevin
Edler, Alexander
Quick,Jon
Rinne, Pekka
I took him but he's the most expensive forward in terms of dollars per PPG. Malkin a close second.
Karlsson on the other hand is dirt cheap.
It's based on their cap hits.
Pretty sure the value is their actual cap hit...is that what you are asking?
Following up for anyone interested in promoting the "Take Back our Rink" chant.
I've received no further response from Glen Gower, Director of Game Entertainment to my email regarding this matter. I assume because my email did not bounce he is still there. And I don't like being ignored.
My proposed chant of "Let's Go Sen-a-tors, clap, clap, clap-clap-clap" is suggested because it is still traditional and designed to sit on top of the "Go Blank Go" chants of those intolerable visiting fans. The clap, clap, clap-clap-clap, (actually drums from the in-house entertainment folks) would start the chant. But I would hope many fans will bring their own drums, air horns, what-ever-makes -noise to join in the fun.
I know there are no eastern Canadian clubs that will visit again this year(oh how that makes me sad) but now is the time to make an impression on the Sens organization for next year. Maybe if they can try it for the playoffs.
If you think this is worth trying you can help by sending your own note, or copy the following note to;
http://senators.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=48801
note: the "Please select a topic" drop down box has "Game Entertainment." But I would send it to every dept. there. That's bound to start people talking. Mr. Gower has proven to be a no show.
And/or send one(or 50) to Mr. Gower directly;
gowerg
Spread the word if you can.
Cannot wait!!!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SENS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Tailgate by the OC transpo buses for game 3, spread tha word!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
Yeah u kinda have to, better players to be had at their price tag.
;) This is the playoffs kids, those dollars and cents and points during boring regular season games mean squat.
If you don't think for example that Alfie and Spez will produce at extremely high levels, even rivaling the likes of those softy Sedins.... well those are your poolie decisions to make. We'll see how the results turn out.
Here are my predictions:
Sens in 6
Bruins in 6
Pens in 7
Devils in 5
Nucks in 5
Blues in 6
Hawks in 7
Det in 7
Thoughts?
Damn, I just changed my team like 3 times now, I can't make up my mind. I need to hurry and do the final submission before game time. Urg!!!
Hate to burst your bubble because I'm all for taking back our rink, but SBP won't let fans bring in "noisemakers".
Nor are arenas allowed to play any sort of music etc over the PA during play. They're allowed to complete something within a few seconds of puck drop and announce goals, penalties and other boxscore type stuff only.
I'm not suggesting you give up, but you'll get further if you find a solution that plays within those rules (IMO).
Laugh if you must, I don't actually think I'll win but I couldn't help but pick so many sens players! :)
Plus, there's no way I'm changing my team when I've managed to spend all but $1! haha
Forwards
Malkin 8,700,000
Spezza 7,000,000
Sedin, D. 6,100,000
Alfredsson 4,875,000
Lucic 4,083,333
Giroux 3,750,000
Neal, J 2,875,000
Burrows 2,000,000
Turris 1,400,000
Foligno 1,200,000
Henrique 854,166
Greening 816,667
Defense
Chara 6,916,667
Letang 3,500,000
Pietrangelo 3,166,666
Karlsson 1,300,000
Shattenkirk 1,300,000
Garrison 675,000
Goalies (ironic, isn't it!)
Anderson 3,187,500
Elliott 600,000
Value: $64,299,999
Cap Room Left: $1
I feel terrible not picking #11 or #19, but their price tags are too high!
Playoff pools shouldn't be all about cap hits!
When you look at the number of games you expect the team to play in Round 1, the goalie they're facing, the PPG pace of the players and their cap hit you get a very different looking team than the typical "top 10 scorers" team.
Of course, I could just as easily come last so who the heck knows?
I like your take on the East but I think Detroit and Chicago are going out in the first round and that LA pushes Van to 7 games.

Goalie #2 [2000000] Mike Smith (PHO)
Have a good night watching the Playoffs, cheers.
Once again, to make it clear. After the first round we get to reselect our teams! Same thing after the second round and then we are "stuck" with them to the bitter end!
I don't want anyone to get burned by not knowing this, but if you look through the rules on the site it clearly states this. Also when you select your squad it says "First Round Roster" or something the that effect.
I'll all for the old-school pools where you pretty much have to map out the brackets and figure out who you will think will make the final four and final two, but this isn't one of those pools!
@senswin2012 Why would you pick a goalie that will most likely not even be playing this round? Even if he was healthy there is a fair "risk" that he might wind up splitting duties a couple of games with Halak!
Round 1
Sens in 6
Bruins in 7
Pens in 7
Devils in 4
Canucks in 7
Sharks in 7
Hawks in 6
Preds in 7
Round 2
Bruins in 5 over Sens... yes I know...
Pens in 6 over the Devils
Canucks in 6 over the Sharks
Preds in 7 over the Hawks
Round 3
Pens in 6 over Boston
Canucks in 7 over Nashville
SC Final
Pittsburgh in 6 over Vancouver
I just can't see anyone beating Pittsburgh or Vancouver in their respective conferences. I know it CAN happen but I just can't see it. In my opinion they are the two deepest teams with the most top-heavy talent.
If Crosby and Letang avoid getting concussed then Pittsburgh will likely be unstoppable.
Puempel - Zibanejad - ( ) line in Binghamton, get it done!
Detroit is my 2nd favourite team... but I don't see them getting by Nashville. As for Chicago.. I don't have a lot of faith in their goaltending.. it can be very good.. but then it can be very average... I also don't think Vanc wins that easily...
The () would be Petersson I think.
I doubt at this point in the year they're worried about "spreading out" the scoring - may as well let Ottawa's 6th line play together.
Hey Rush, I think you posted this on the wrong comment. As for Elliot, I just figure that if he does get into a game, he's going to get a shutout and that right there is well worth $600.000! :) I may get burned by it but you never know.
hax did not make picks for this segment.
Huh?
EDIT: I'm in there, I guess the "center" link just doesn't work until we're officially underway.
I think if Vancouver loses it will be round one if they win the first round they will be in the finals...I have a feeling Detroit gets taken out by Nashville as well.
I'm also going to keep my team hidden until they are locked...don't think I have anyone too shocking, but maybe one or two.
I think the Wings will win based up experience. I'm not overly concerned about the hawks goaltending. I'm guessing the Coyotes' offense will struggle in general.
I got the same message.
Senators in 6
Bruins in 6
Jersey in 7
Shittsburg in 6
Vancouver in 6
St. Louis in 6
Phoenix in 7
Nashville in 7
@senswin2012 Yes you are right.
http://bang4yourpuck.com/
ENJOY!!!!
GO SENS GO!!!
Yeah same here, I think it is because it hasn't yet begun, there are no points to "center" us around yet. Bit of a glitch, it'll be working 12 hours from now. :)
Ottawa in 6
Boston in 5
NJ in 6
Pits in 6
West
La in 7 with Lou shitting the bed in game 6 and Schneider playing 7 and losing in overtime
Blues in 7
Chicago in 6
Nsh in 6
Yeah but you have to think... for player X, how many games are they likely to play in this series? Points-wise a 7 game nail biter is better than a 5 game blowout...
You gotta think. Hmmmm would two guys of pretty much equal point-per-dolla r value score more goals on a clown goaltender or a Vezina candidate? How strong of a defense in each matchup, how hard will points be to come by, who will play run & gun hockey.
Many many factors, for something so simple as picking a few players. :)
mark stone, mika zibanejad etc.
Ott in 6
FLA in 6
PHIllY in 7
Boston in 7
LA in 6
STL in 4
CHI in 6
NSH in 6
Sens in 7
The Pitts in 6
Old Brodeur Jersey in 6
Baaston in 6
Vancoulu (need to be italian to get that one) in 6
Chitown in 6
I got the Blues in 6
Fishertown in 7
Go Sens Go
its crazy but i think the pens are stronger without him in the lineup.
p.s. why would someone thumbs down miguel's predictions?
Ott in 6
Wash in 7
Phil in 6
Nj in 5
Van in 5
SJ in 6
Chi in 6
Nash in 7
Im just hoping washing wins so we dont get the bruins in round 2
You can tell he's one of the players other guys like.
I know he won't likely score much, but if he does and goes barking down our bench imagine how pumped the boys will be.
For those that haven't you should check out the youtube videos from last year's Bingo playoff run. I hope our locker room has that kind of attitude this spring.
Love the t-shirts they're wearing too:
Ian Mendes @ian_mendes
Some Sens players wearing "Family 2012" t-shirts today. On the back, 16 boxes to check off; representing wins needed for Cup.
They definitely do that chant at the sens games (It's just not the only chant) In fact I've even seen a drummer that SBP has hired going zone to zone leading the chant at a few games. That being said I certainly support any fan led initiative to make the arena louder.
Not to mention the other black aces.
I think MacLean has done a great job all year of keeping a little bit of pressure on the guys to never take a night off. Not in a "win and you're in" kind of way though but in a fair way.
Really, is there a player on this team that has really UNDER produced this year? The guys with mediocre numbers had mediocre (or worse) numbers last year.
Maybe Butler is the only guy that you could say is well below where he was last year but most teams have a half dozen or more guys in that boat.
To Bingo yes.
And maybe as a black ace after the weekend too.
http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/46516-NHL-Stanley-Cup-Playoff-Preview-Round-1.html
NYR better offense than the Sens? I FUCKING LOL'D
To whom it may affect,
I agree that;
- fans of the Senators need their own chant to take back SBP from fans of visiting clubs.
- the proposed chant of "Let's Go Sen-a-tors, clap, clap, clap-clap-clap" along with drums, air horns and any noise maker to add to the clap, clap rhythm is a great idea to "out shout" those against our Senators.
- it is initially necessary for the in-house entertainment folks to help. Starting the chant with the drum rhythm and maybe adding score board graphics.
If you think the crowd getting behind their players has no effect, look no further than our very own Anderson and Anderson's crowd chant and interview after a 51 save performance in Col. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-06bXkPaQE
even though it is not our team, it is our player and I can't help but feel chills when watching and listening
He is going to be a huge part of whatever success we are going to have and that can be said about a lot of our players.
yes, our Sens have to come up big but as fans, "SO DO WE"
Gives me shivers...remin ds me of how amazing Andy can be in the playoffs! :) GO SENS GO!!!
This is going to be mad fun, glad so many of us could participate!
I look forward to wiping the floor with every last one of you. I'll beat you like a rented mule. I'll fold you like Superman on laundry day! I'll trash talk until you all slowly... tune... out........
Haha! Let the games begin! Let the real NHL season begin!
GO SENS! GO!
Quoting RUSHRLZ:
Gamecenter Live is a piss off as it won't let me watch games that are on TV and all of the playoff games are!!!
Liking that pick so far...
The longer the Pens stay in the playoffs, the longer the refs suck Crosby and Malkin's cocks.
make it 6!!
I'm cheering loudly for the Sens.
Where's Maggie the Monkey? Fer sure she would pick the Sens!
Or Paul the octopus, had he not died. :( RIP Paul!
this sucks
Their fans are putting the rest of the league to shame. Chanting
And singing like crazed soccer fans.
Check this sight out http://www.section303.com/chants
Who knew they were this crazy for hockey?
You are probably still there I can't find a way to just see my team yet. If you look at our standings tho and click see picks it will compare your team(on the left) with the team you want to see the picks of(on the right)
I had the same "panic"
I almost took Gabriel Bourque in the pool.
I hope it goes 7 and Philly wins. God I hate the Pens. Will make picking players for the next rounds more interesting
haha, I almost did too but it would have thrown my salary cap off of having $1 left!
Wow, Pens suck! LOL
I picked the Pens to win but secretly I'm pulling for the Flyers! ;)
Great game
1 minute to go
Absolutely SICK night for tcharger! Some of your picks lit it up!
I think its 3 poi TS for a with. And 5 for a shutout
Wow, make that a 9 point night for you so far! Are goals and assists worth they same?
Pretty sure I have a few going in the next game too. 5 more still!
some great hockey in the first 2 games.
van getting a cheap first goal, with no call on goaltender interference.
Did anyone hear the van fans doing the "leafs suck" chants?
lol good times.
just got 1 for burrows...almos t didn't pick him but threw him in remembering his big playoffs last year.
La might be in trouble if he refs the whole series
Yes, television. It's the large rectangular box in your living room and every bar in North America.
Suck it!
LOL funny...but it's "culo"
Man oh man,
That Briere offside, was the turning point in the game,
and it could & should have been reviewed, or another official could or should have clearly blown the whistle.
The War Room in Toronto, sometimes take forever to rule on
some situations, but this missed call is truly a black mark on the NHL officials !!
I watched the French RDS show, called "Anti-Chambre"
and the panel called the non-call, a disgrace to NHL
refereeing !!
In closing Briere was already 4-5 feet inside the blue line
and the puck then crossed the line, to end up on his stick
and in the Pens net !!
That linesman will not be part of any more games during this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs guaranteed !!!
Hey Robert,
I think that the refs blew the icing call that led to the 3rd penguins goal, so it was a 1 for 1
And did anyone else see what Shea weber did? This is an obvious suspension!
When the final horn blew for the game he put zetterberg into a head lock and drove it into the boards
If that's not a suspension then what is?
Just my 2 cents
GO SENS GOO
-sensarmy123
i think Weber should be suspended but as to whether he will...
Bob McKenzie said on TSN - "like it or not, and most people don't, suspensions in the NHL are tied to the outcome"
and therefore as Zetterburg wasn't hurt there will be no suspension
to my mind what Weber did is actually worse than somebody coming across middle ice at speed and clattering somebody and incidentally hitting the head
intent HAS to be a factor when reviewing plays and deciding on suspensions - but we know it isn't, Weber doesn't even have the "i didn't mean to" defence that Shanahan seems to think clears everything
Very well put bro.
In my opinion, that was worse than that Aaron Rome hit on Horton in last years finals
Like he completely drove his head into the boards
For anyone looking for it here it is:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=XiMgjO0EgtE
Weber deserves a suspension but will he get one, prob not. And that alone is how the system is faulty. Well, not just that but it's a key factor. I guess Playoffs truly is a different game.
What's up with all the thumbs down on this post, someone having a bad day? Cheer up, it's playoffs son!!!!
It's all there under HOME/RULES:
Forwards/Defencemen
Goal = 1 point
Assist = 1 point
Goalies
Win = 2 points
Shutout = 3 point bonus
i.e. Shutout win = 5 points in total
Our scoring isn't working correctly yet, it is showing points that each player accrued during the regular season. I know my team is awesome but I don't think they got 1236 points yet!
Although I suspect its close to accurate
yah, when I woke up this morning to check the rankings and saw that you were ranked 4th, I thought, "Wow, I knew tcharger had a good night but how the heck is the point system working for him to have 1260!?" haha And then I realized it was season stats.
Thou shall rememeber that the Senators were picked to finish near the bottom of the regular season standings.
Thou shall remember that the Senators proved all of these "experts" wrong.
Thou shall remember that the Senators were picked by all of the "experts" to lose this series, probably in 6 games.
Thou shall support the Sens in the hope that they can prove the experts wrong again.
Thou shall keep in mind our collective expectations, and thus not be too critcal of those players who made us proud all year, in the event that they stumble, from time to time, in these playoffs.
Thou shall resist the urge to question line-up decisions, after each loss.(especiall y BOOM asking why is Condra dressed....)
Thou shall remember that whatever happens from this point forward, it's all gravy....and rejoice in the season, bearing in mind that the Leafs are now deciding whether to play nine or eighteen.
Go Sens Go.
I feel like a kid in the candy store I'm so excited!!!
GO SENS GO!
Explain to me why we have to change our chant in our own rink? You don't think that "let's go ma ple leafs, clap clap clap clap clap" will fit that rhythm?
The key is not to change the chant, but to drown the others out. When we have enough sens fans in the building, it's clearly "Sens" and not "Leafs."
Season ticket holders need to stp giving their seats away to these games. That's what will solve it.
Thou shall grow a playoff beard in support of OUR TEAM despite what my family thinks!
Thou shall wear all of my Sens apparel proudly throughout the GTA on game day in honour of OUR TEAM!
Thou shall pump thyself up watching inspiring/motiv ational 2012 Sens youtube clips prior to puck drop!
GO SENS GO!!!
:-P
Simply growl as fiercely as possible at all Ranger fans and that should do the trick! HAHA, thanks for humbling me, I should have slept another hour before posting that comment! :)
