  • Another Playoff Moment

Something I learned at a young age, is that if you approach playoffs with the "Cup or bust" mentality, you'll completely miss the real beauty of this magical time of year.

Playoffs are all about those "moments". Those where were you when, kind of moments. The ones that stick with you for days, weeks, even years to come. And as Ottawa Senators fans, we have been pretty spoiled the last couple of seasons.

Divisional Rivals Meet in Beantown

On Saturday night, the Boston Bruins held on for a 5-3 win over the Senators in a physical game at Scotiabank Place.

Tonight, the two teams square off again, this time at the TD Garden in Boston.  The Bruins got the better of the Sens on the weekend, but the bad blood between these two teams is sure to spill over into this divisional clash.

With the trade deadline now in the rearview, Paul MacLean and his team can look ahead to the final 18 games.  The Senators currently hold the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference but trail the division leading Bruins by just four points.  If Ottawa is going to have any chance at chasing down Boston, they have to find a way to beat them head to head.

The Bruins have won all four meetings between the two teams so far this season.

On Saturday, the hatred started to boil over between the division rivals and we can expect more of the same tonight.  Joe Corvo, who is still bitter over a hit Turris threw on Saturday, spoke with the media in Boston yesterday and said he plans to fight Turris.  I'm all for two guys sorting out their issues on the ice but the fact that Corvo chose to share his "plans" with the media seemed fairly bush league. Corvo backtracked on his comments this morning.

Should be interesting to see what happens tonight.

Newly acquired Matt Gilroy will make his Ottawa Senators debut tonight and wear the #97, a number he wears to honour his brother who passed away when he was young.

MacLean will make a couple changes to the line up as Matt Gilroy and Zenon Konopka draw in while Matt Carkner and Kaspars Daugavins come out. Here is how the Sens are expected to line up.

Michalek-Spezza-Butler
Greening-Turris-Alfie
Foligno-Smith-Condra
Konopka-O'Brien-Neil

Kuba-Karlsson
Phillips-Gilroy
Cowen-Gonchar

Robin Lehner gets his second straight start in the Ottawa goal.  Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7:00 PM with all the action available on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.  Keep an eye on the comment section for any streams that become available.

  • On Friday, March 2, we'll be holding another SensChirp Event at the Local Heroes on Clyde Avenue. For just $60 bucks you get a 300 level ticket to the game against the Chicago Blackhawks, dinner ($15 or less) and transportation to and from the game. Not to mention a chance to mingle with some SensChirp readers. Call 613 224 3873 and mention the SensChirp event to book your spot. Space is limited!
  • Ben Bishop, acquired from the St. Louis Blues on Sunday, is expected to make his debut with the Binghamton Senators when they take on the St. John's Ice Caps tonight.  Will try to provide some updates on that game later tonight.

Not to rattle any cages, but I mentioned that mid season at some point, the whole "what if Lehner comes up and takes us all the way..." but actually never thought Andy would get hurt

Last year Lehner came out of nowhere and lead Bingo to the Calder cup, imagine if it can happen again this year in the playoffs....

Question for ya chirp:

Where is Bishop? No way you can send Lehner down for now and Auld is warming the bench. Would we roll with 3 goalies for now? Send Bishop down until Lehner faulters (if he ever does)and then bring him back up? Waive Auld?

Edit: Bishop won in Bingo, but we surely didn't trade for him so that he can play in Bingo. Right?

Not rattled, I've been saying it since camp. It was the whole reason I didn't want the long Anderson contract. However, we can allshare the credit. If the sens win the cup we're all very very happy!!!

You'll never hear dance crap at a Bruins game. It's metal and hard rock all game long. It really gets the juices going. Wish Scotia bank would do the same in the playoffs this year.

Wow, what can I say, either the bruins didnt show up today or the Sens did, I hate 1-0 games, so boring but i'll take any W right now, especially since I said bruins were gonna win haha!

They did rape us in the physical aspect an in a 7 game series it could wear us down, hopefully we win the last one to be somewhat respectable at 2-4 against them...

That's for sure - hard to get pumped up (fans and team) when they play Lady Ga Ga and Katy Perry...We need Maiden, Megadeth and such during the games!

If not for Thomas, that's a 5-0 Sens win. Thought that was our best 60 min effort of the season. Lehner obviously great. Liked Gilroys game. Thought he fit right in.

Are you kidding me Tooks !? that had playoff atmosphere. Guys didn't retaliate and didn't get sucked into what Lucic and Chara we're trying to do. I give this game an A+.

If ANY other goalie was in nets for the Bees (other that Lehner :P) this would've been an eaaaaassyyy blowout for the Sens. This guy is unbelievable against the Sens for some reason? Maybe Lehner is our new weapon vs. the Bruins!

Seriously you have to be the worst fan ever. Your team just beat the Stanley cup champs in their own barn with a shutout by our 20goalie if the future and you have nothing positive to say. You sit are ridiculous.
