With a crucial game against the Panthers set for Wednesday, Paul MacLean has to make sure his team isn’t looking beyond tonight’s opponent. With the Sens slumping a little bit as of late, that really shouldn’t be a problem. The Lightning have won six of their past ten and have posted an impressive 15-8-2 record on home ice.
Mathieu Garon will start in goal for Tampa.
No changes are expected to the Sens line up which means Craig Anderson will make the start in goal while Zenon Konopka and Matt Carkner will be the healthy scratches. Here is how the Sens are expected to line up.
Michalek-Spezza-Butler
Greening-Turris-Alfie
Daugavins-Smith-Condra
Foligno-O'Brien-Neil
Kuba-Karlsson
Phillips-Gonchar
Cowen-Lee
Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7:00 PM tonight with the game available on Sportsnet and RDS. Keep an eye on the comment section for any streams that pop up a little closer to game time.
- The hockey world is abuzz today with talk that Rick Nash is available leading up to the February 27 trade deadline. Hate to spoil the fun but I do not expect the Sens to be seriously involved, Murray may make a call but apparently it is a long shot to go any further than that. Nash has a massive contract and Murray would have to give up significant assets to get a deal done. Just can’t see it happening.
- With that said, this is the NHL's silly season- what would you be willing to give up to land Rick Nash?
I would love to get Nash, and it disappoints me to know that its probably not gonna happen. I'm good with the rebuild too lol
Ya him too lol. I was in a rush of feelings towards absolutely getting Nash and didnt think clearly
Nash would be great, would give up Michalek, 1st rd pick, and it really shouldn't take much more than that, maybe a mid-level prospect.
But Chirp is right, Landing a UFA Parise for nothing would be 1000X better than trading for Nash.... but who says we can't have them both?
...
Parise to ottawa.
No way Ottawa could afford Nash, but would love to see him land in a Canadian market. With Montreal set to sell, with picks they are about to acquire, could Montreal afford him?
To play along though, I'd send Puempel, 2013 1st, Wiercioch and a bottom 6 player like Condra, OBrien, Daugavins or whoever. Seems very expensive though!
Michalek, Zibanajad and a pick?
I know you think 'Zibanajad, no way!' but when it comes to coveted players, you usually have to think of the one player you wouldn't want to give up and that's usually what it takes and is involved in a trade like this.
obviously i am not in the get-NASH camp.
Agree with the point about Parise. Definitely a much better option I think too considering he has Playoff experience with NJD and is coming from an organization with a winning culture and mentality. Obviously that is not a knock against Nash since he does not control his organization. But its a bonus plus for Parise in the comparo. its funny both are same age, but Nash is 2002 draft and Parise is 2003. Nash is just a month older.
Bigger picture: sens need to get that D prospect pool flooded again. and one more goalie would be sweet. before they get those two areas fully replenished, they should not change course.
Plus, Bryan Murray already said he is not looking at making a big splash at the deadline which proves what frame of mind he is in.
Nash-Spezza-Sil fverburg/Alfie?
Michalek-Turris-Silfverburg/Alfie
Greening-Smith-Stone
Condra-Regin-Neil
Roszival/Widema n-Karlsson
Phillips/Gonchar
Cowen-BoroCop/Carkner/Lee
Anderson-Lehner
First of all, would this lineup contend for the cup ? Second of all, do we take the risk if we think it could lead to Alfie Hoist the cup ?
It's Nice to Dream :)
Regin? no doubting the potential, but next year? right off of shoulder surgery? as a fourth liner? also is he not RFA or UFA this summer?
Nash-Spezza-Silfverburg/Alfie?
Michalek-Turris-Silfverburg/Alfie
Greening-Smith-Stone
Condra-Regin-Neil
i'm liking your third line, lots of scoring depth and realistic.
I couldn't see Turris. Ottawa has needed a true 2nd line C for so long and we all know all too well that 1 top heavy line only gets you so far. I could live with Michalek if we keep Zibanejad in the trade.
with that said, where is he going?
My guesses are:
EAST
Laffs (although it'd be stupid)or Panthers
WEST
Blues or Kings
not sure the Leafs have the necessary assets to do this but Burke has proven to have moxie.
Nash Spezza Zibby
Silfverberg Turriis Alfie
Bottom 6 left
Stone
Prince
Pumps
Noeson
Filatov
Greening
Folingo
Smith
Condra ..etc
Keep 2012 1st for another dmen proscept or subban or Russian goalie
lol Burke probably adds Kadri and Grabovski and gets it done done. but then he would have so many wingers and no real centremen lol haha...he probably also gets Luke Schenn gone. which would be stupid for the leafs because its really Phaneuf who is their absolute worst defenseman.
If Regin isn't healthy, then either you sign a Centre in the offseason or go with a guy like O'Brien or Da Costa.
Yeah same here, Greening brings speed, Smith brings grit and Stone can crash the net very well. Hopefully Stone's skating improved enough to make the team next year.
We need a guy like him
with a healthy Carter along with Nash, Johannsen, Brassard, Prospal, Huselius, Wisnewksi, Mason, Methot, Vermette, Umberger, Tyutin....they have the pieces. I think the year was shit for them because of injuries all over the place.
I think they are a team with the pieces they have they should stand pat and see what they can do in their division next year. Given that they are probably in the nastiest division on earth with the likes of Detroit, Nsh, Chicago and now with a surging St. Louis.
plus they have the all-star game next year. wouldnt you want your franchise guy around for that? also Nash is apparently saying now he is committed to staying in CLS.
IMO, i think this is just smoke with no fire. Nash stays in CLS for atleast one more year.
On another note, the SENATORS ARE 5-0-0 ON VALENTINES DAY SINCE THEIR RETURN IN 1992 !!
Ottawa's 2012 1st
Michalek+Noeson +Smith.
Get Alfie a cup!
Sign me up!!! Major man boner for Parise and Suter in a Sens uni. (hope the wife dosn't read this..)
Why trade for them? They are UFA's on July 1st. We give up nothing but Eugene's cash if he's willing to spend it. You have to think that this scenario is being considered by Murray and the Euge, we are set up perfectly to attempt this and I wouldn't doubt Murray has told their agents he would like to be on speed dial on Canada day.
AMEN.
keep your prospects, especially the best ones and load up smartly (as in dont get too many) through free agency. sounds like a plan :).
Nash Spezza Stone that line would be amesome
Michalek Lehner 1st 2013
Last time Craig Anderson started a game here in Tampa, he posted a 3-0 shutout win on Nov. 30, 2009 with Colorado.
Looks like Sens will face Mathieu Garon tonight. Ottawa is the only NHL team he's never beaten. (0-2-0 record)
Although I am realistic and I doubt this trade will even happen. I'm going to assume that either Detroit or NYR will likely sell the farm to get Nash.
Knowing BM's history with Free Agent day as well, it's not likely that he'll be able to land Parise either. Many teams will be interested, but BM will likely say something like, 'He wanted 1-2 years too many.'
Personally I think that trading for Nash might be the way to go as Parise is likely to explore the market and wind up in an American city and trading for Jeff Carter is not a good idea as he has attitude problems and is often injured.
But again, I doubt any of these stars will wind up in a Sens uniform.
As i said a week ago, i'd trade 1st rounder, Zibby, and wiercoch or other prospect, maybe gonchar for cap issues. With Turris in the fold, zibby either has to learn wing, or be relegated to 3rd line center, and/or battle out turris for 2c. If the above trade were enough, lines could look like this.
Nash-spezza-stone
Michalek-turris-silfverberg/alfie?
foligno-smith-petersson
greening-free agent or other rookie-neil
condra can be trade bait or switched out when needed for depth. if zibby stays, maybe he takes 3c, moves smith down, and the trade could include puempel or noesen and an additional pick. Also, those 2 names could be swapped into the lineup in place of petersson.
that would be a young fast team, with lots of drive, and a top line to reckon with.
But there will be 29 teams doing everything they can to get parise as well, and thats if the devils can't resign him, making it 30. So do you sit on your laurels hoping he's available, and that he chooses your team, and letting a chance at getting nash slip away?
All i can say, is if burke sells the farm for nash, and lands him, we will regret it more than TO will miss "the farm"
How about you both take 7 million a year, same as Spezza and we all sign on the dotted line and rip the rest of the league to shreds for the foreseeable future?
Git er done!
20 years Ottawa has drafted how many goalies ???? You wanna know why we have had goalie issues for 20 years ???
Drafted 15
Played in NHL 7
More then 50 games 4
More the 15 games with the sens 2 ( Elliot Emery)
What makes you think Lehner couldn't be replaced ? With te 3 years we have left on Andy's deal ??
To Ottawa
Rick Nash
2012 2nd
To Columbus
Milan Michalek
Filip Kuba
1st 2012
Scratch Kuba they won't top end proscept either Lehner or Cowen or Zibby
Laffs gave up 2 first rounders and a second rounder for Kessel... is that too much for Nash?
The year is 2012 and Ottawa is a Canadian team in the NHL.
agreed about how we have drafted a very limited amount of goalies. this year we have a huge oppertunity to draft goalies like andrei vasilevski, malcolm subban, andrei makarov, richard ullberg etc. basically im saying this year has a lot of very good goalies.
i disagree about the "lehner couldnt be replaced? ". we must ignore lehner this year because he has been injured all year and playing on a terrible team. when he has a decent team in front of him, and some motivation then he is a wall. and plus the most obvious thing about him, he is a swede and from gothenburg (alfie's home town)
Than again that team could give NJ some very good assets and just watch parise walk away for another team/deal.
Parise will probably want 8+ mil per year since he'd be leaving to cash in. just putting this out there.
If Columbus would take purely picks, I'd be game for that exact trade. The difference between the Sens doing it now and the Leafs doing it when they did is that we already have a stocked cupboard, whereas they were just starting to get pieces for theirs. I think it could work at our current stage of development, though I'd rather put 1 player in there to get it to only 2 picks.
LA is the favorite with Jack Johnson,Bernier , and a first being dangled.
NYR is offering Kreider, Dubinsky and a first.
Columbus wants a solid top6er, top prospect(prefer ebly a defenceman) and a first rounder.
Michalek,butler,dacosta and a 1st, i believe our 2013 would be in play.
michalek top 3-6, butler,dacosta potential top 6, 1st rd pick possible top 6 or top 4 d.
i belive this sort of package is what it going to take.
Completely agree, and it can't be forgotten that a lot of Lehner's poor stats were gained while the BSens had key injuries.
andy is getting older too dont forget and lehner was a steal from the vermette trade. whats the intelligence in trading him back now? seriously, people need to realize that this team has been pulling some trades and deals over the past couple of years to fix long term ailments - one of them goaltending. the others being defense and forwards stand at interesting places now. sens have really good depth at forward now after you count the college prospects, roster players and draftees. the sens were thought to have some really good depth at defense coming into this year, but that was based on the assumption that all of cowen, wiercioch, rundblad and gryba are progressing as expected or better. well that obviously did not happen because wierioch had setbacks, gryba didnt cut the team for whatever reason and rundblad was sent. right now, the only worthwhile long term potential guy who could play in the top 4 remaining in the system is Wiercioch. No one here can say that the sens have tons of top 4 sitting in the system. with Gonchar and Kuba set to leave and Phillips declining, sens need a solution.
people have to put things into perspective as to where this team was and is now. forward depth is replenished now after years of Muckler trading. Defense is still an incomplete job & can use one more draft. One stud goalie is in the system.
Therefore, yes Lehner cannot be replaced..yet.
Lehner is a great talent my personal opinion he has won the starting job every er since we drafted him ..Lehner has be coached and prepared by if not the best goalie coach in Sweden his father .. Listen I'd have Lehner in nets right now I think this guy is jumping throw hoops for the past 2 years and his resume has a solid season greyhounds AHL champship and MVP award all under age 20 we are in a rebuild and are goalie of the future has been told too do things and shown a 3 year deal to are existing goalie ..
Just Release The Lehner !!!
Let's see what the kid has !!!
Checked out Nash stats since in the NHL, and he is top 6, but not an "elite" player by any means.
Columbus wants too much in asking for Michalek, and one of Lehner, Cowen or Zibanejad plus a 1st 2012 pick !
Lehner is the sens insurance against Anderson right now. He shall be backup next year and after that the ramp down in Anderson's starts will commence. Lehner is to Ottawa as Carey Price is to the Habs. This guy is the missing piece in the equation so to speak. He will play. Sens are just using glove hands with him. And the kid knows that Ottawa will play him. BM would probably have to go insane before he lets Lehner walk. Ottawa can't do to Lehner what Leafs have done to Reimer or CLS to Mason or what MTL initially did to Price. Ottawa needs to follow the Rask approach that Boston took.
But one more stud goalie is needed to bury the hatchet with sens goaltending.
defense is the sens management's last remaning frontier, and it will be fixed in this year's draft.
so....anyone here streaming it???? =D
ive always thought he is pretty over rated but again we havent seen him play with a real playmaker(key word playmaker, he is playing with carter.. who i consider more of a goal scorer)
and the sad part about this is, if he is moved. and if Scott Howson was slightly smart, he would know how to rob a team by selling nash at a ridicoulsly high price.
same thing will happen with ruutu if he is traded, a team is going to be giving up a 1st rounder and more for him too
That statement is supported by the fact that before overtime started during the final game, Zibanejad told one of his teammates that he is going to go score the deciding goal.
To Ottawa
Rick Nash
2nd Round
To Columbus
Milan Michalek (top 6)
Andre Petersson (Prospect)
Filip Kuba (Puck Moving D) UFA
1st Round
a star forward in phil kessel (who i guess you can argue is better than nash, atleast this year he is) was worth 2 1st rounders.
id only imagine nash is worth 2 first rounders at the very least
I think this is the best offer for Nash.
He is not worth more than 2 first rounders !!
Anything more than that is overpaying for Nash !!
Also, it's been rumored that Suter and Parise are best friends and would like to play for the same team if possible. There are only a few teams that can afford to sign both of these guys and the Sens are one of them for sure.
Parise-Spezza-Michalek
Silfverberg-Turris-Alfie
Foligno-Zibanejad-Condra
Greening-Smith-Neil
Karlsson-Suter
Cowen-Gonchar
Lee-Phillips
Anderson
probably too good to be true but we can all dream
See my previous posts. You're preaching to the choir.
#'s 28, 31 & 42
The guy has submitted a list to Howsen and I highly doubt Ott is on it.
We would literally have to mortgage the franchises entire future for the guy. We're talking about everything Bryan Murray and Pierre Dorion has worked so hard for the last year, and all of the losses we endured last season gone to waste.
No way am I willing to see the team part with Zibanjead/Stone /Silfverberg/Pr ince etc etc.
Not worth it man!
On another note, I'd like to see the Sens restock the shelf and draft a blue chip defenceman in this year's draft. Cody Ceci would look sweet in a Sens uni. Another goalie prospect to insulate Lehner would be nice too.
i'd give them gonchar is they would take him too...
and then we hope we get someone like grossman to replace him
hope is not a plan and therefore your suggestion as a whole is just a pipe dream.
Is talking about getting nash or parise not a pipe dream? come on....
God I love Eklund, I've had the longest day ever and I come home to this gem. He really is a treasure.
Nice feeds by BB16 and Spezz
There IS a webstream for the game in case you were wondering.
Here's the link:
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/107667/1/watch-tampa-bay-lightning-vs-ottawa-senators.html
Any other streams out there? This one is glitchy
Y U NO GOAL NORMALLY?
YOU GUYS ALL OWE ME FOR FINDING THIS LINK :)
Can you imagine? Spezza, Turris, Alfie, Michalek, ZBad, Silfverberg, AND Nash.
Oh man.. the things I would give to shut the Leafs up via blow out 10-1 for 6 consecutive games..
Since he came into the league, I've been a fan of Raymond. Any other team, he'd be a consistent first liner. He has huge upside and potential, it's a shame he will probably remain with the Canucks.
On another note, is Denis Potvin half-cut every broadcast or what? Great hockey player but man..... his inane babblings are getting a bit ridiculous
Exhibit A: Earlier in the game Potvin commented, "And that shot on net was exactly that, a shot on net." Gee, thanks for that.
If they think they're better than him, they're wrong"
- Randy Newman, Rednecks
Might get burned...
Continue to forecheck and put the put on net. But most importantly, keep the good defence up!
good on zack smith to get under lecavalier's nerve on that last shift.
spezza: thank you. that is all.
*que silence of spezza haters*
I agree watched that too Murray should not touch Penner with a 20 foot pole!
FREEBIRD !
if not for Heater refusing the trade to Edmonton Penner would be "sruggling" in Ottawa right now at $4.2M a year
Quoting Mark:
dunno if the rangers make the finals from the east that easily. i still think Boston outmuscles every team in the east once the playoffs start. its a different beast and the bruins are not a nice team to play against when they are confident.
haha karlsson wants the gordie how ROFLLLL
St Louis Gordie Howe'd Karlsson - old school away fromn the play payback
If Murray is going to make a tweek or two then here are some players that Murray should look at.
Defencemen
1.Bryan Allen
2.Nicklas Grossman
3.Kyle Quincey
4.Shane O'Brein
Forwards
1.Eric Fehr
2.Taylor Pyatt
3.Dustin Penner ***********
AMEN.
i would rather it have been a spearing call against lecavalier than the penalty shot. is turris good or what? good save by garon he was cooked.
i think spezza is now 1 point short of 4th overall in points this season.
is butler the setup man now lol
in other awesome news, toronto is down 2-0 to cgy.
Is anyone watching history in the making? Hudler just scored to put Detroit up 3-0. Less than 5 mins left now.
Quoting Daybreak Maidenhead:
You are fucking and a fag and fucking annoying! get lost from the this stie you fucking gay fag!

even leafs fans admit that Phaneuf is actually the worst player on the leafs team right now bar none. he has the worst hockey sense of all of them and he is made to look like a buffoon more times than all of them. seriously absolutely the most overrated player in ALL OF HOCKEY. can you believe people were actually mentioning him and NORRIS TROPHY together in the same sentence earlier this year?
When Parise hits the open market every Tom and Dick will be bidding for him. He's going to get at least what Nash is making, and will want to go to a top contender, and he has no problem playing in a hockey crazy city.
Paying top dollar for a player like Nash is what it costs to be a contender. You can pay it now, and a have a great player in your line-up, who is in his prime years, and signed for another six years. Or, continue slowly down the rebuild path for years to come, and very likely never having a player of his quality in your line-up.
Ottawa meets all the criteria for getting Nash.
1 - Cap space
2 - Credible pieces to trade (1st round pick, top prospect, and a player.)
3 - The best team on which he can make an impact without affecting team chemistry.
4 - He wants to play for an eastern team, but prefers a smaller market away from the hockey crazy media. I'd say Ottawa is a happy medium.
If you want to draw good defenseman to your team without paying through the nose for them, you need to have the offensive pieces in place to ensure they have a greater chance to win.
Top tier players are 1 in a million! Prospects, 1st round picks, and players are a dime a dozen.
The "people" you mentioned were/are all Toronto reporters. I've learned to ignore them. They hype the Leafs so much!
