For defenceman Chris Phillips it will be a special night as he hits an impressive milestone in front of friends and family at SBP.
Drafted 1st overall in 1996, Phillips has been a steady as they come on the Sens blueline and will be forever remembered for scoring one of the biggest goals in franchise history. In the five seasons leading up to this one, Phillips, who is as durable as they come, missed just one regular season game.
Big Rig is just the 46th player in NHL history to play 1000 games with the same team.
The other major storyline is the return of fan favourite, Mike Fisher. Like Phillips, Fisher was a pillar in the community and a face of the franchise both on and off the ice. Images like this one really show what Mike Fisher was all about.
When the Sens traded Fisher almost a year ago to the day, it sent shock waves through the Ottawa fan base. Fisher was one of the most beloved players in the history of the Sens organization and while fans knew a trade was possible, it was still tough to see him go. It will be great for the Ottawa fans to have a chance to recognize Fisher tonight.
And while Big Rig's milestone and Fisher's return are grabbing the headlines, this is a hockey game the Sens have to win.
Coming into this one having lost seven straight, the Sens will turn to Alex Auld for the first time in 2012. Auld's last start came back on December 30th against the Calgary Flames. MacLean will also shuffle his line up a little bit as Matt Carkner and Zenon Konopka will be healthy scratches in favour of Brian Lee and Bobby Butler.
Here is how the Sens are expected to line up.
Michalek-Spezza-Butler
Greening-Turris-Alfredsson
Daugavins-Smith-Condra
Foligno-O'Brien-Neil
Kuba-Karlsson
Cowen-Gonchar
Phillips-Lee
Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7:30 PM with all the action available on Sportsnet and Team 1200. Keep an eye on the comment section for any streams that become available closer to game time.
- In Sens prospect news, Ottawa 67's star Shane Prince was named the OHL's player of the month for January. Prince racked up 24 points in just 12 games and was an impressive +16 over that stretch.
Can't wait to see fisher!
Hope we win!
Gooooo sens gooooo!
Yep. Perreault, Potvin, Modano & Phillips.
I hope the Sens faithful give Phillips and Fisher the respect they both deserve. Of course, if the Sens could manage to build up a 2 goal lead before the in-house recognition of either guy that would help the fans I'm sure.
I dread what would happen if they acknowledge Phillips when we're down 3-0 or something - especially if Phillips is -2 at the time.
sigh
Yep, that's what they said at Tuesday's game.
Thanks.
That's the curse of the stay-at-home D. While I will freely admit Phillips' play the past two seasons has been below what it used to be, you simply can't win friends as a stay-at-home guy.
You only get noticed when someone scores and all the while you're playing heavy minutes, sometimes double-shifted, against the most dangerous lines in the NHL.
My overall opinion of Phillips isn't stained much by the past two years. I still look at the 25+ minute nights he's put in against the other team's top line and powerplay. Or Crosby saying (in an interview where he wasn't in Ottawa) that Phillips was one of the toughest D to play against. Every coach the Sens have ever had would toss Phillips out there with the game on the line.
THAT says more to me than some +/- stat or his recent struggles.
Remember: we're not trying to win a cup this year or next. By the time this team is ready to really make a run Phillips will either be gone already or on the block (or, maybe, back in form where he can help our third pairing). Get off the dude's back and thank him for the 1000 games of service.
GO SENS GO!
ZING
Grown man actually shed tears when Mike got traded.
Absolute must win.
lol thought the same thing.
Come on Chirp that was a pretty brutal shift
But they will be unanimous haha :)
Haha unfortunate timing that's for sure.
can we please trade for hartnell?
maybe they'll take carkner and the dog for him...?? ;p
Scott Hartnell for Daugavins and Carkner, ok chief.
First and last time I will type
PHILLIPS BABY!!!!!!!!!
Damn right! Now, give him some PP time!
thata boy Phillips!
lol
They're baaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaacccccccc ck.
Plus+1 for "cold as ice cream".
And what's our record when Phillips scores a goal?
My only beef with this game so far: Get Gonchar off the point on PP, and get Kuba in there instead.
Go Sens!
pretty good quality stream
Its part of the NHL's strategy to grow the fanbase in Phoenix...
Damn right! Now, give him some PP time!
Way to go coach! Told ya!
Also, he hasn't scored, but it's the best game I've seen by Milo in 15+ games.
What's our record when #4 scores 2 goals!
AND
JERKOFF JIM JEROME WAS FIRED !
Oh well can't have em all.
Best game I've seen by Big Rig since the game winner in OT to force game 7 vs. Devils.
What a game!
GO SENS GO
Why was he fired???
Nevermind I found out
