Back with a Trade Deadline related post this afternoon.
She wants to go to the Spa and afterwards the movies cuz it's our day off -_-
I ow her one so I pretty much got no choice LOL ... It's a shame I'm going to miss the sens game for only the second time this year !! Cheers and GO =O= GO
A second event like this before the end of the season would definitely be SWEEEEET !!
why isn't foligno getting more of a chance?
where did Zack Smith go?
I don't know, I have to agree I never would think of Condra as top line... but if you think back, he was a big part of the Turris/Alfie line, he really helped out on that line.
Lets hope he does the same for Spezza and MM9, I think he will.
they need to dominate the islanders tomorrow, play a clean effective ruthless game and just channel all the frustration of the players, coaches ,management and fans from this stupid losing streak into a solid win against both NYI and Toronto.
i dont understand how the sens playing the way they were in beating San Jose, Toronto, NYR, Philly, NJD, Penguins come out to lose to Anaheim and Phx.
I think some pieces on the defense corps need to refocus. they are committing atleast one major mental lapse per game which ends up costing the team. Last game it was Phillips letting Marchand get through along with Karlsson doing a funny impression on the lucic shot.
need a better shutdown d-man than phillips...
Needless to say, section 319 will be active in discussions. Especially if Tookie shows up! :)
You're going to WHAT??? That's what girlfriends are for!
I agree. I'm also starting to think that a trade deadline pick up to round out the top six may be a good idea. A winger for Spezza's line. Not that Greening hasn't played well (its more like Michalek that's dragging behind) but we need something to spark that line if we want to be effective down the stretch. And sorry, Condra just isn't the answer..
So who's a possible candidate?
i think the top line should be left as is. Michalek and Greening did connect for the sens first goal against the bruins and they didnt look bad, they just were not allowed as much room. its not a surprise, they were playing against chara all night. They need to make that fourth line more dangerous I think. Butler does not fit in there and is not good enough to displace anybody else from the other lines. I think a Winchester return makes Butler a press box occupant. hopefully its soon.
The sens really only need to address one area and that is their vigor and intensity in their own d-zone. its not so much that they are making atrocious plays, its the low number of highly costly mental lapses. the ones that are few and far between, but are big enough to turn the game on its head...e.g. Marchand's tying goal. that should not have gone in. They need to dig in a little more, they have it in them they just need to do it.
You make a good point about our first line lining up with the top defensive pairings. Its not just in the Boston game but its with every team. Still though, looking at Michalek's play of late and I don't see anything close to an all star player. He's not even generating chances for his line at all. Where did the chemistry go??
PM knows that greening can play on the top line if needed..what condra brings to the top line is energy...
Yeah the top line scored the first goal last game but after that they let the bruin wall dictate their pace...
You have a gritty kid with speed who doesnt mind getting some elbows in his face forcing Spezz to go in with speed and all of a sudden i think you get a top line with more jump...
with the way the turris line has been playing lately and aflie's new found youth..i kinda want them to play first line minutes...
I'm so glad my girlfriend likes watching hockey too. You should get a PVR. You'll never miss a game.
Not yet. Sorting through the entries!
Curious to know how close i was :)
Why not wait to develop it? Silfverberg and/or Mika will be with this team next season... give them a shot.
This team also needs a good defensemen or two... we know that Kuba is out (most likely) at the end of this season... and Gonchar after next.
Let the re-build properly go it's course. If they make the playoffs in the meantime then that is great... then if they don't... they don't.
I'm not saying if there is a really good young UFA out there.. that the Sens don't give it a shot... I just don't want them to stop the focus on the re-build.
true, he has been very off lately, less net drive too, but he has been getting chances though. I think he is just a little streaky, plus lack of PP time might have to do with it too. as we all know, the sens are in PP desert right now lol.
i'm not too worried about goal scoring to be honest, teams are not shutting the sens down necessarily. Anaheim was getting close to it, but they managed the one jam goal. its the stupid defensive lapses, the super frustrating chintsy kind that really have nothing to do with defensive skill and more to do with presence of mind.
Still plenty of spots left for sale though!!
Im pretty sure the rebuild or so called rebuild is over cause the talent collected on the past year ..5 1st rd picks kicked the rebuild
We can't keep a rebuild going with mid to late 1st rd picks ...Sign Parise and rebuild the defence around Karlsson and Cowen ASAP
On Defense, Karlson, Kuba and Gonchar take turns making glaring errors (all playing okay, but all make too many mistakes). Phillips and Carkner are just not good enough to shut anyone down and Cowen is a rookie, playing well, but still just a rookie. It's too bad Karlson and Cowen were not just a few years older (or Lee turned out better)
What is the general feeling about trading for Jarome Iginla? I know the Flames don't want to trade him but they desperately need to start rebuilding. We have the picks/prospects /cap space it would take to get him, but I know the price would be steep. He is 34 (going on 35) and would be around for a couple years (assuming he re-signs here) to help along the prospects coming in. Having him would take our top line to the next level for sure.
I'm thinking it would take something like;
2012 1st
Mika Zibanejad
Jakob Silfverberg
Very steep, but Iginla is a star, "game-changing" player and we still have A LOT of other prospects in the pipe. (Noesen, Puempel, Stone, Borocop, Pettersen, Gryba, etc...)
Thoughts? Try to be constructive.
Iginla is one of my favorite players, and if he was 27 years old I would make that deal. We're still rebuilding though and he's getting up there in age. This is a ridiculous trade proposal. Sens get bent over on this one.
I'm with ya Sandy, I don't understand what the rush is either. People need to be more patient around here.
Yes, it's pretty ridiculous but its probably what it would take to get him. Not a serious offer, just something to think about. We need to "pick on" the suffering teams to get that Top 6 to seriously help us out.
I find it funny that we Sens Fans feel that we only started "rebuilding" last year. We start rebuilding the moment BM became GM and started re-stocking the barn with prospects. We started a "re-tool" last year and it was quite successful. Our vets are playing the way they're supposed to (for the most part) and some of our older prospects are starting to realize their potential.
I don't understand how a rental player for the playoffs has anything to do with halting the re-build?
Obviously the Sens are in the surprising position of being in playoff contention while still in a re-build. We have players and prospects that are far behind in the queue that could get a better chance or be useful elsewhere.
I for one could let go of Butler, Lee, Winchester, Regin, a 4th pick or higher if it means getting some depth and skill for the playoffs. Untouchables IMO would be: Zbad, Silfverberg, Lehner, Petersson, Gryba, Hoffman, Prince, Noeson, Puemple and Stone. Negotiable prospects are Da Costa and Wiercioch.
If we make the playoffs, our pick will be insignificant regardless...
completely agree, I am certain that at this point in their careers, Gyrba brings a lot more than Philips can.
In Philips defense he must be playing through an injury, as he is really suffering in our own end.
Maybe some rest days are in order?
Karlsson & Cowen will be good for years to come. I say next season let BoroCop fill out 5 or 6th D with Carkner.
Gonchar is here for another year.
But they need a good strong D in that top 4. No way should Marchand have been left on his feet to get a shot at that puck again. Try to get that in UFA this offseason to take the spot of Kuba...
Cowen is just learning in this league... Phillips while having decent year.. but in spots has been horrible -- see Marchand -- the need is there for another top shutdown D. They take several years to develop.. so UFA would definitely help.
Ummm did you not notice he was a pylon in the playoffs for us? Apart from that 1 big hit on Leopold. He was pretty pathetic.
I'd rather take my chances riding Karlsson and Cowen 35+ minutes a night that have Sutton back...
My top UFA D's we should target:
Garrison, Jason » D FLA 27 $675,000
Lepisto, Sami » D CHI 27 $750,000
Grossman, Nicklas » D DAL 27 $1,625,000
Carle, Matt » D PHI 27 $3,437,500
Suter, Ryan » D NAS 27 $3,500,000
Boychuk, Johnny » D BOS 28 $1,875,000
Lidstrom, Nicklas » D DET 41 $6,200,000(joki ngly)
This is a good draft with lots of defensive talent.
We all know that at least 2 forwards won't be back as Silfverberg & Mika will be, hopefully, in the Sens lineup next season. Which forwards are gone is the question.
There is no guarantee of a playoff spot. They were comfortably in prior to that Western road trip.. 4 straight losses, with teams below them winning has wiped that out.
These next 2 games are key to get some 'room' back. I have a really bad feeling about that Leafs' game... a win against what is a hot Islanders team is a must.
Not so sure anymore that Mika is penciled in already for next season, he is out indefinitely with a concussion and only played 15 of his clubs 43 games this year.
Might be back in the SEL next year aswell. Doesnt look good for him.
Rundblad is already gone, that means less logjam on the blueline.
He plays a ton of minutes (only Karlsson has a higher average TOI)
He leads the team in plus/minus.
Here's the big one in my eyes - Karlsson seems calmer and better when paired with him than he does with anybody else.
There was a lot of hate for the guy earlier this year and I'm happy to admit I was on board with that, but he is the most improved player on the roster from last year - bar none.
Does this year make up for the year before (everybody else apparently gets a gimme for last year why not him) and the year before that.
Of the other viable options out there, would you rather keep Kuba who we know is steady and already knows the MacLean system or bring in a UFA that has to learn it.
Again let me say I am not advocating this and there is a difference sometimes between what I think will happen and what I think should happen - but I don't think re-signing him is the ridiculous reach that it was this time last year.
1 or 2 year contract at 1.5-2 mil/per and I'd be ok with that.
Well if that UFA happens to be Ryan Suter or Shea Weber (RFA), than by all means learn away my friends, learn away!!
Those two are staying in Nashville. I promise you that.
Nashville has 32Mil committed and have to sign.
Weber
Suter
Kostitsyn
Wilson
Tootoo
A back up goalie
With basically the rest of they're team in 2013, lol, they cant give big bucks to both of them and hope to keep Ryan Ellis happy when its his turn for big bucks.
They can and will let one fo them go probably Ryan Suter since they got Ryan Ellis to replace him.
its means clear house, and then try to build a new team.
Trading for a top 6 doesn't go against the rebuild at all. As long as the team ends up being better than it was before the trade.
Chicago still had to get sharp and sign hossa
pittsburgh went out and got neal
What we have right now (or so the standings would suggest) is a BUILT team. now we have the luxury or renovations.
