According to Pierre LeBrun, The Ottawa Senators have acquired Kyle Turris from the Phoenix Coyotes. Still waiting for all the details on this one but it appears as though the Sens have their second line centre.

Turris to Ottawa
Martin St.Louis is one too. In matter of fact he was invited to one of Ottawa's training camp in the 90s before Ottawa released him and he went to Calgary before landing in Tampa Bay.Grabner may be the most recent example.
Also note: Dany Heatley flourished in Ottawa, failed everywhere else.
As someone who was really tired of Runblad's "Brilliant Skill" (see: giveaways and breakaways given up), I see this as a no-win, no-lose trade. Turris will be at worst, one of our other 3rd/4th liners. At best, top 6. And we can afford that 2nd round pick since we were over stacked at last years draft.
Btw, how long has it been since the comment section broke into 2 pages?!
kessel is leading the league in points and boston didnt want any part of him either. boston thought he was underacheiving. so another change of scenery example.
lupul is another one, changed between three teams over the past 5 years multiple times.
lol i hate how i have three leafs players as examples .......YUCK.
lombardi may qualify too when he changed from calgary to phx , but obviously not right now lol
Sarcasm usually involves humour. I'm just sayin.
Gonna have both streams up; Rundblad vs. Florida, and Turris vs. Buffalo.
Hopefully both do well! [Especially Turris]
KJ
His play and stats prove he could not play at this level now.
But WTF is Murray thinking, WTF has Turris done other than proving he is worse than Filatov.
I can just see it now,
we give him one game in top 6, then 6 games on the 4th line, then sit him... he bitches and wont go down to Bingo and we trade him for a 7th pick!!!
There must be more to the story than people know... there has to be I cannot believe Murray is that stupid.
I beleive as I have stated before, that PM and BM, have asked Rundblad to go to Bingo, and he threatened to go back to SEL, if we did so, b/c he would not be on our top 6 otherwise.
PM likes Lee and Carkner, likes what we have in Bingo, and decides we will not let this kid put a gun to our head.
there is not other way to make sense of this stupid trade
For the record, I do not know Turris, but right now he is below Filatov in my books
Please prove me wrong!
matt moulson is another. drafted in the 9th round in 2003. rookie as a 24 year old in LA. was an AHLer for 3years after that. became an NHLer with the islanders at age 27 and hit 30goals
Now he can also develop in Europe and the AHL and be brought in fully developed and not rushed into the NHL
That PM liked Turris's play in the playoffs speaks volumes - and means he will get TOI to prove himself. Here is hoping we can finally field a decent 2nd line
This is nothing like Chara going to Boston. The fact that you made that comparison is laughable.
We may miss him in a few years but impact today is negligible.
Offence for the future we have Turris Zibby Filatov Silverburg Petersson and our first rounder this year, all top 6 potential.
Foligno Regin Winchester Konopka contracts all expire this year, foligno has shown up so far, the others I would not miss.
You can't trade garbage to get good players, you have to give to get.
The second was the cost to get the deal done, we are not starving for prospects, second round picks.
It is a roll of the dice and we will get more picks at the trade deadline, more prospects, this one is not do or die for us. (second round pick.)
Welcome Turris
Go Sens Go
Nothing funny happened yesterday. I'm just sayin.
Listen, it's not a case of fans not wanting to "roll the dice in life". But there is a time and place for everything.
If the end of last season and this year was all about a "REBUILD", then why make this move? Listen to Murray - her sounds like he's trying to make the playoffs, which isn't a bad thing, but don't change your gameplan in December to do so...They say Defence wins championships, so we give up what looks to be our third best blueliner of the near future for...an underachiever who may need a change of scenerey to produce? a guy who quit on the team that drafted him? a player who's as much a gamble as Filitov was?
I'm just dissapointed that BM gave up on the gameplan of a rebuild - now we are the Leafs, who think they can make the playoffs, just miss out, and take themselves out of a good draft pick...
Turris seems to have scoring touch and PM thinks he was one of the better players on the 'yotes when he played against him....so sorry, but I'll side with PM and BM over wanna-be, hide-behind their keyboard GMs any day.
However this is a clear silver lining in this deal. The Senators organization quite obviously expects Cowen-Karlsson to be an elite top pairing for years to come. When we drafted Cowen I don't think the organization expected much of him offensively. It's now becoming a reality that he could be anywhere from a 5G-25PT defender to a 10G-40+PT guy. We're going to have to pay those two a lot and they will play 25-30 minutes a night. There are only so many power-play minutes to go around. We have other good prospects who can fill 2nd/3rd pairing roles and will draft more. The real question is why now. Rundblad would probably have been worth more in 2 years. Huge gamble on Turris being a star.
You do realize that Turris is younger than Greening and Condra right?
True Turris hasn't proved anything... but news flash... nor did Rundblad. They are both very young with tones of upside.
If he pans out (which he probably will), Turris gives us 4 really legit top 6 forwards (Alfy, Spezza, Mechalek and Turris).
Keep in mind, Turris was touted as a top line center (compared to Gretzky at some point), so if he ends up being just a great second line center, we are still VERY well off.
Rundblad didnt look nearly as good as Karlsson did in his first year and he could end up being just as much of a bust.
Well said,
This is what I was trying to convey in an earler post on Topic before this one .
AlfieForMayor11 was jumping all over my statement about the young and whiny whippersnappers that I was tearing apart
because of their lack of patience etc....
