Game Day- Capital City Showdown

Coming off a disappointing loss at the hands of the Dallas Stars, the Ottawa Senators will visit Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.

Tonight marks the end of a three game road trip for the Sens who return home after the game to begin a stretch that will see them play 9 of 13 at Scotiabank Place during the month of December.

Historically, the Senators have had their fair share of issues in Washington.

The Caps are 10-0-1 in their last eleven outings on home ice against the Sens.  Washington has struggled as of late though and have dropped four straight including an 0-2 record with Dale Hunter behind the bench.  I've had a chance to watch the Caps a little bit recently and they look like a group that is really gripping the stick tight.  If the Sens can get a lead, that hometown crowd will almost certainly turn ugly.

The Sens should get a boost on the physical side of things as Chris Neil makes his return to the Ottawa line up.  His high ankle sprain has kept him on the sidelines for the last 9 games but will draw back in this evening.  There was no word on who would come out of the line up but I would assume it's Bobby Butler.

While Chris Neil returns, Filip Kuba will miss his second straight with with an upper-body injury.  MacLean will go with the same six defenceman as he did the other night in Dallas. Will post the line up shortly.

Puck drop comes just after 7:00 PM tonight. The game is available on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada and should be available for streaming on their website.

I want to thank the CBC for promoting the Senators brand by allowing a stream on their website. A giant step in the right direction. We know how much the cbc 'chubs' out for the wretched team in blue, so this isn't even tongue in cheek. Hell, people outside of the Ottawa Valley just might want to watch the 5th leading scoring team, full of young raw talent, face a struggling yet typically dominant offensive juggernaut.

We know the CBC would never play a Sens game over a say...Toronto vs Colorado game, no matter who the Sens are playing. So truly, this is progress.

Thank you CBC, your online streaming and local coverage of the Battle of the Capital Cities is truly an early Christmas gift for the entire land!

Go fuckin Sens.

A win would go a long way tonight. A little nervous considering the Caps are MORE than due for a W, the first goal would get them squeezing those twigs even tighter.

The scoreboard across the league has been very generous towards us, would be huge to get the 2 pts tonight!

Go Sens!!
Go Zach Smith!!!!

I sent emails to CBC for years on end, their response is that the Sens get priority over the Leafs in the spring.

A team plays together, each player has a position, against everyone else on the planet who was teams made up. Not 100% sure but i think there is 12 spots per team.

Hey Snoop,

Still waiting to hear who comes out for Neil so Sens line up is still up in the air. Would assume Neil takes Butler's spot on the fourth line though. Craig Anderson starts. On the Caps side, Semin is out of the line up.

Here is my best guess at Sens combos.

Greening-Spezza-Filatov
Michalek-Foligno-Alfredsson
Daugavinsr-Smith-Condra
Konopka-Winchester-Neil

Phillips-Karlsson
Cowen-Gonchar
Rundblad-Lee

Should be a good game tonight and it will be interesting to see how much the Caps style of play changes under Hunter.

I would rather have Neil then Daug on the ice anytime, and Butler doesnt play the same type of role as Neil or Daugavins when hes on the ice. I also think that Daug played a pretty terrible game against Dallas compared to how he usually plays. He made alot of turnovers and mistakes.

I'd say so. Knock on wood for Michalek's health. He could be on pace for 35, which is reasonable. Foligno has had some chemistry with Smith in the past so why not reward him for Smith's recently good play?

Michalek - Spezza - Butler
Smith - Foligno - Alfredsson
Greening - Winchester - Neil
Filatov - Konopka - Condra

For now anyway. Not like these lines will be the same in the next 2 years when Stone, Pageau, Silfverberg and our three 1st rounders all crack the team.

-i think this year like all rebuilds is about experiments. and i'm not upset that filatov got scratched. he is an experiment. i consider him a 3rd round draft pick, cuz thats basically what he is worth to us. and most 3rd round picks don't become top 6 guys. so no big thing for me.
-i like the greening experiment and i'm not going to throw him under the bus for not scoring like he did in the first month. his career is still young and the season is still young. i think he is great.

-the dacosta experiment was a success in my opinion. showed he can play in the nhl but he needs time to develope.
-cowen is great. i doubt anyone would disagree with me there.
-rundblad makes me feel the same way karlson did in his first year. my stomach twisted in knots when he has the puck in his end or when he pinches in. but lots of potential.
-butler i think needs to play better so that we can trade him for something good, or pair him with something.
-daug smith and condra are a dream come true.

From what I saw in the highlights, Anderson got us 1 point.

We had no business even getting that. It may have just been NHL.com's highlights, but it sure looked like the Caps were out hustling us on everything.

Hes been a giveaway machine in the last 2 games.
On another note, good on Mickey for equalling Kessel in goals. Maybe now they can mention someone other than Kessel on TSN and SPSNT (although the probably wont)

How about Cowen playing 28 minutes last night. He and Karlsson looked like a really good pairing.

I'm sorry but gonchar is so lazy he should be in the third pairing and should save what little energy he has in the game for the power play.

We need a second line center bad. So we can move michalek back with spezza and then will alfredsson have somebody to play with.

Im looking at Sam Ganger
