The Ottawa Senators have played some pretty solid hockey away from SBP the last month or so and will look to continue that in Dallas tonight.
After an ugly loss in Pittsburgh, the Sens have rebounded nicely, notching a couple solid wins over the Hurricanes and Jets to close out the month of November on a high note.
Tonight's opponent, the Dallas Stars, has to be considered one of the league's most surprising teams through the first quarter of the season. The Stars have an impressive 14-9-1 record which includes a 8-3-1 run on home ice. Despite being five games above .500, the Stars have a negative goal differential and are the only team in the top 10 in the West where that's the case.
Andrew Raycroft will start for Dallas.
Ottawa comes into this one sitting 8th in the Eastern Conference, just a single point clear of Saturday's opponent, the Washington Capitals. Things are extremely tight in the East right now as the Sens only sit six points clear of the 14th place Hurricanes.
Paul MacLean will be forced to make one change to his line up, with Filip Kuba not able to play this evening. His absence means Brian Lee draws in on the blueline, where he is expected to be paired with David Rundblad.
Nikita Filatov left the game against the Jets after taking a skate in the head but he will play tonight. No changes expected among the forwards. Chris Neil was on the ice at the morning skate but is still wearing a no-contact jersey. Here is how the Sens will line up.
Greening-Spezza-Filatov
Michalek-Foligno-Alfredsson
Daugavinsr-Smith-Condra
Konopka-Winchester- Butler
Phillips-Karlsson
Cowen-Gonchar
Rundblad-Lee
Craig Anderson gets the start in goal.
Another late puck drop tonight with the start scheduled for just after 8:30 PM. The game is available on Sportsnet SENS and TVA. Keep an eye on the comment section for a stream.
Hope Anderson is ready to see another busy night!!
Not going to make a prediction.. when I do, it turn ugly!
GO SENS GO!!!
Who would fight him. He's built like a brick shithouse. I say he drops them with Burrish, scores a garbage goal on a goalmouth "scramble!", and gets an assist on a Michalek backhander. Just being hopeful.
im fairly sure he fought against carolina, or very recently
He just fought Derek Joslin the other day.

Last year in Bingo management told him he was going to have to fight occasionally because the way he played guys would want to come after him.
Nobody goes down yet. Konopka gets scratched (or Butler perhaps).
Now when Regin is healthy that may force Murray's hand a bit. But even if Daugavins gets sent down it's not the end of the world. Let him go play the PP in Bingo and top line etc. He'll be back with Ottawa before too long.
Though I still think his contract is such that he'd have to clear waivers - @chirp can you confirm?
He is a bit "too nice" for sure, but that can change. I bet once Neiler is cleared for it he'll give Greening a few lessons. All Greening has to do is fill in a guy every 10-20 games or so to remind people not to mess with him. Kind of like Chara (though not comparing the two).
Well technically a "rag doll" would still count for the GHHT as long as he gets 5 minutes. But yeah he's not exactly a boxer.
Totally agree but I think he should make that a part of his game (not tonight necessarily). To me he should sort of play like a Lucic (again, not exactly saying they're the same skill set etc).
Keep an eye on the comment section. Seems as though one always pops up.
How about understanding that I was just having some fun? I didn't realise I needed to provide statistical data to back up my statement. Grab a cold one and relax Skully, we're on the same team.
To me that says they may be taking us too lightly. The Stars started out great this year, but it hasn't and will not continue. The only bonus with this start for them is that they may now have a chance at the playoffs instead of being just behind the competitors.I have a buddy who's a huge Stars fan, so this will be a fun matchup with lots of trash talk tonight. Suggestions welcome :)
I'm looking for a nice 4-2 win by the Sens, with Anderson continuing to improve his play, and a good all around team game. Whoever gets the defensive assignment of the Benn line will be in for a tough night. Should be a physical affair.
GO SENS GO!!!
Raycroft is in net because Lehtonen is injured again. He's the Russian DiPietro.
Ah ok, thanks for the update.
FYI Burrish is injured too, so no Greening - Burrish spectacular tonight :(
Sometimes the boys skate harder in front of a backup - especially one who's playing due to injury to the starter. But either way, let's hope our boys get an early jump tonight.
Best site for streams is firstrowsports. tv
Finlands DiPietro?
Finlands DiPietro?
Whoops! I just assumed cause he's supposedly fat and lazy that he's Russian.
Yup. I didn't know he was injured so that first part no longer applies.
Good to hear that. Good for Bingo and for Carkner (and of course good for us though he's still 8th D I guess).
The pairing that really scares me is Phillips-Karlsson.
I thought it would have been:
Phillips-Rundblad -- they have played together before
Karlsson-Lee
Gonchar-Cowen -- they have played together before..
Ottawa will not split that line up. What will probably happen is Neil will go in for Konopka. With that line being on fire, you just dont change it up if you are wining that is coaching 101. There will be a trade here soon. Murray is not going to risk putting someone on waivers. It will be Kuba, Lee, and Filatov on the block in my eyes. If Filatov does not work out here soon, Murray can easily move him and get a 3rd round pick back with him or package him with Lee and get himself at least a 2nd and a decent prospect. Kuba is on the block but can not trade him unless they are getting the same cap hit back as they are close to the cap floor and need to stay above it.
He signed his first pro-contract at the end of the season, in June of 2007, at the age of 19; that standard 3-year ELC was for the start of the 2007-08 season, but his contract 'slid' to the next year, presumably because he didn't play enough AHL games (Capgeek does record the first year of his ELC 'sliding' to the next). So, from the 2008-09 season to the 2010-11 season, Daugavins was on his ELC, which expired this summer, when he re-signed his new 1-year deal. That means that he is now in his 4th pro season, which means that he IS waiver exempt at the moment -- at least until the end of this year, anyway.

Can't verify if this is 100% accurate... but it makes sense to me.
You can't have Lee playing 23-28mins beside Karlsson though, they'd get run over by the more physical Dallas players. I'm sure the pairings will be pretty fluid throughout the game though.
Okay I don't want to seem like I'm jumping all over you .... but:
I can't see a trade happening soon just to make room for Konopka (you're right that he's odd man out).
Filatov is untradable right now unless we want to give him away - which we don't.
Agreed but remember we're rebuilding. So they may push Lee's minutes a bit more than you'd think. Also, Karlsson gets a fair chunk of those minutes on the PP which Lee won't see much of.
But yeah, the pairings have been very fluid. Seems like Gonchar and Phillips end up together all the time.
Yeah me too and I hope it's true. I had seen that before. I'd just feel better seeing Chirp back that up. Clearly if he's not exempt then we can't send him down which might get sticky when Regin is healthy.
I'd love for Lee to get big minutes, it's just pairing with Karlsson that scares me as a whole.
But if he was called up an emergency basis to replace Regin.. then he does not have to clear waivers going back down (IF he is waiver eligible that is).
Yeah sure would like Chirp's thoughts on this..
Can't recall/too lazy but that's a possibility as well.
This is how I understood it but I'm certainly no expert on the subject. I
lsh.lshunter.tv
easy to find compared to most streaming sites. this one you can choose hockey and they generally have several streams of every game.
also I'm calling a goal by either Rundblad or Karlsson tonight!
Just watched it the other day! Thought it would be tough to top the one they did last year but this looks every bit as good.

"While I have tremendous respect for (general manager) Scott Howson and the rest of Columbus' management team, the situation regarding Derick Brassard has become untenable. The coach has a history of burying players and using them as scapegoats to mask his own lack of success on the ice. Derick has been singled out, almost from the very beginning of the season, to be the fall guy in case things don't go well. The Columbus organization cares about Derick and has been good to him, but at some point, one has to say, enough is enough."
Sens have been interested from the get go. Sounds like the situation has reached the tipping point.

Snnnnipe
Thumbs down if you agree
+4 Last game or something?
Ya I usually have no problem.
Might be the VPN connecting me back home... hmm...
Can someone confirm the other streams work... that would mean it is my connection.
I'm Sorry Mr. Phillips but your son isn't as good as you think.
I do respect you for being a loyal hockey dad and sticking up for Chris though.
And when regin comes back I think he should fill in for winchester.
Line up would look like this: all pending filatov stays up
Greening-Spezza-Filatov
Michalek-Regin-Alfredsson
Condra-Smith-Daugavins
Foligno-Konopka-Neil
Foligno is having a career year and you want to throw him on the fourth line? No way broski
now we get to play the ice-caps...hope fully they are still frozen on Saturday...
