With the home side holding a 4-3 lead, all the momentum was squarely behind the Winnipeg Jets. Two goals in the first three minutes of the final period and it looked like the Jets were going to pull away. But if you have watched the Sens this year, you know that this hockey team does not roll over, no matter how daunting the situation may seem.
Erik Karlsson found Jason Spezza with a perfect cross ice pass, Spezza converted a wicked shot and just like that, the game was all tied up. Then with less than seven minutes to play, Head Coach Paul MacLean played a hunch and rewarded the trio of Daugavins, Smith and Condra with a third period power play shift.
Zack Smith took advantage, beating Ondrej Pavlec high on the glove side for what turned out to be his second straight game winning goal and sixth on the season. That trio has been as reliable as they come for the Sens as of late. Daugavins picked up an assist, Condra had a couple helpers and Zack Smith tallied twice in 18:34 of ice time.
Team leader in goals Milan Michalek scored two more tonight and now has 14 on the season, only two behind the league lead. Chris Phillips, who is quietly putting together a great bounce back season, added two assists and was an impressive +4.
Was not all good news for the Sens as they lost a couple players to injury. Nikita Filatov left after taking a skate in the head which resulted in a broken nose. Filip Kuba also left the game with an upper-body injury which is likely related to a hard hit he took in the first period.
The Sens are off tomorrow and open up their December schedule with a game in Dallas on Thursday night.
_________________________________________________________________________
Repost from earlier but I thought I would include a few notes including some good news about the new scoreboard in this post as well.
On Bobby Ryan
Plenty of speculation today that Anaheim Ducks winger Bobby Ryan could be available via trade. Spoke with one contact on the Sens potential interest and was quickly told it wouldn't happen. Ducks will have plenty of offers for Ryan if they decide to move him but I really don't think Murray is willing to part with the assets required to make a deal of this magnitude. Ryan's contract is also an issue for the Sens.
On Derrick Brassard
Still an option the Sens are considering as a second line centre. According to Aaron Portzline on Twitter, Brassard will be in the line up for the Jackets tonight in Vancouver and is expected to see an increased role. Should be interesting to see who has scouts in Vancouver tonight.
On All Star Voting
The latest round of All Star Game voting results are in and as expected, the Sens contingent are beginning to feel some heat from other players from around the league. Daniel Alfredsson has slipped into second among forwards, Spezza is third and Michalek has fallen to 5th. Erik Karlsson continues to lead all defenceman in votes. Important that Sens fans continue to vote and vote often. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell strangers on the street to #VoteAlfie and all the rest. You can go here to cast your vote. And don't forget you can vote an additional 30 times via text message and 30 more times from your mobile device.
On Scoreboard
Here is the piece of good news for today. Was given indication today that the plan is to have a new scoreboard in place in time for the NHL All Star Game on January 29th. This has been an on again/off again issue for awhile now but it finally sounds like some progress has been made. Rumour has it the board will be installed towards the end of December.
Sid deserved it this week with his 4 point night and comeback and all, but good luck to any Senator getting on that list very often.
Don't care about rebuilding, this team fights for everything.
Of course, best case scenario would be to play lots of exciting games but lose more than they win, thus providing lots of entertainment AND a high pick.
(Kidding .... mostly .... sort of ..... a little)
with the cap space we will have, and this is going to be a great ride within the next 2-3 years. I really think we win the cup in 3 or 4 years.
I was not alone in the stands wearing my Sens jersey. Sens Army was well represented at the MTS Center tonight.
Players who were amazing tonight: Karlsson, Cowen, Michalek, Spezza, Smith, Foligno, and of course Alfie.
Runblad still seemed a bit clumsy with the puck.
This is the only time you'll ever hear me say this, but I was hoping for a Sens loss (in a shootout) because I wanted to witness a win here. I'll likely never be able to score tickets again. Haha.
I'm still giddy from finally getting to see the Sens play. Especially Aflie, at least once, before he retires.
Go Sens Go!
EDIT
Oh, and from first hand experience now... Stephane Auger is the worst ref ever.
No real penalties were called.
And what was called, were not penalties.
Thanks Senators!
I also can't recall a season when they were so often in the way of play...
A good game is one where their presence is felt but is not the at the focal point of attention.
Prob a bunch of fuckin Leafs 'fans' that hopped on the Jets wagon as soon as they got a team. Clowns
I'm just sayin'.
Players are making far more individual plays that lead to goals this year. Karlsson, Spezza, Michalek leading the way, and others stepping up from time to time.
In MacLean we trust.
and "that" guy gets a lot of power play time (hee hee)
I can't say enough good things about Zack Smith. Last year, and the first handful of games this year, I thought Smith was nothing more than a goon. He was constantly taking bad penalties and fighting when he didn't have to, and he always seemed to be complaining.
Now it's a totally different story. He's quickly become one of our best players. He's scoring clutch goals for us, skating hard, responsible defensively, and hits everything that moves.
It's finally time for me to get the Smith nameplate on my old Heatley jersey.
Really?
I was in the stands and noticed barely any booing for Sens players (unless there was a penalty/missed penalty/goal).
I was blown away with how respectful my fellow 'Peggers were.
If you were watching the game on TV, they probably used a 'boo-track' ontop of the game. LOL
haha thats odd because on tv, they were most definitely booing alfie. and later in the 3rd period they were booing karlsson.
I may have missed some booing due to being awestruck by Aflie and crew, but really, there was not much in way of boos.
Go Sens Go!
You don't get a minus for a powerplay goal against though!
Smith looking great!
Karlsson looking elite!
Spezza playing great!
Foligno, Daug, Greening, Condra all finding their groove...
But most importantly:
This Heatly/Michalek trade is now looking like we robbed them!!! Heatly used to be a great finisher, but Michalek doesn't only finish, he also creates the opportunities!! Great speed, doesn't mind going in the dirty areas, and a great shot. I didn't see it back then, but my eyes are now open, I HONESTLY would take Michalek over Heatly any day :)
Smith - love to see another GWG - he's playing great, nice to see The Stache reward him with a PP chance!
9MM - loves to shoot down The Jets!! Great to see him on the board again
Gonchar - Welcome back!
Karlsson - 'nuff said... he's awesome!
The list goes on... what an exciting and great game last night!
By the way... what's up with the refs lately? Horrible calls, not blowing whistles with frozen pucks (didn't mind with last night's)...
GO SENS GO!!
Smith is playing a shitload of PP time, what games are you guys watching.
Yes and our PK s abysmal at 79.8%, good for 25th in the league. So that could easily go against Smith.
His goal last night should have never counted as the puck was frozen by Pavelec, similar to what Price had to suffer vs the Penguins in OT.
But the old rule is dig until you hear a whistle!!
On that note, how wicked is it to have a line like daug-smith-cond ra?? they have played with each other for years and are now ready to go
If and a huge if we make the playoffs that line will get notice around the league because they are our pahlsson-moen-n iedermayer line hands down. Pitty the opposing line playing them in a line matching scenario
Here's the answer.... F*CK YOU WINNIPEG THRASHERS FANS! Your team sucks, and so does your shitty town.
~Peluso
Smith is playing on average, 16 seconds on the pp per game. Compare that to Colin Greening at 2:34, Spezza at 3:29and Michalek at 2:56, I would have to agree with Tookie
Tookie was saying that Smith gets lots of PP time, You point out that he is getting, on average, 16 seconds, and you agree with him?
@Peluso
While I agree with your Winnipeg Thrashers comment, I take issue with your assessment of my fair city. I would be interested to know if you've actually ever been here. If not that would be like me saying that Peluso has a really small penis. Without actually having met you, how would I know?
Go Sens!
Agressive - I like it. For the record, I'm a grow'er, not a show'er.
Been to Winnipeg on several occasions. Indeed, I watched the REAL Jets play back in the day, when I played in Winnipeg on hockey tournaments. Further, I have been there recently as well (summer 2010). Yeah, the downtown is pleasant enough, but to me there's a reason why there's a ringroad around the city. There's my proof. You want proof about my wang too chum? ("I'll take the Wang Too Chum with rice please")
Thanks for involving my genitals though. ...And I thought I was the classiest around here.
~Peluso
With regards to you challenging Peluso, a couple of things...
1- Peluso alwasys come back strong, when challenged.
2- Of all the analogies you could have chosen to illustrate your point, you chose the "Peluso has a small penis"?
Was at the game last night. The boys played a solid team game while on the road. They managed the puck well and competed for the whole 60 minutes. The reffing wasn't the greatest, lots of soft calls but at least they were against both teams. EK65 was the best player out there for both teams. He played like a modern day Bobby Orr, he constantly had the puck on his stick and did smart things with it everytime, and he was pretty decent in his own end, using his speed to take away pucks. My best friend who I took to the game called him "the best player in the league, not named Sydney."
16 seconds / game is a lot?
All I'm saying is, with Zack Smith's Ice time (It has steadily increased since the beginning of th season) and the situation he plays in (He was on the PK a lot since the beginning of the season) his +/- is impressive. He reminds me of a Fisher/Kelly hybrid.
Is there anyone in the league named Sydney?
Although the sens have been winning lately, and he has a winning record, is anyone else disappointed with Anderson's play so far this year ?
I wouldn't say disappointed, but I'm still waiting for him to show some stability back there. He's had about 4 games where he's been awesome and stretches in most games where he's been great as well (last night even) - but overall there's been a bit more shakiness than I would like. Even with that, I don't get that nervous Leclaire/Elliot t feeling at all during games.
This is the biggest thing.. I think it shows in the players too, he's not giving up that back breaking goal a la Gerber and it's not like he's letting in those beachball goals either.. Sure he's not making those lights out saves that we would like but he is simply making the saves he is suppose to make.. If he gets beat then so be it, as long as it's not one of those "you've got to be kidding me" goals..
As a player that is all you ask
I just watched the game from last night 'cause I work nights and did not hear any booing towards any Sens players so maybe your smoking some bad "leaf". Their was maybe 2 instances where I heard booing and it was obviously towards the refs, who did make some pretty terrible calls against both teams. This was also the game that was aired by sportsnet so maybe TSN has the boo-track playing for sens wouldn 't surprise me atall.
Yeah you got mixed up there, but here are some facts to back my argument up, and by shitload, please keep the player in perspective.
56 secs vs TOR
45 secs vs BUF
42 secs vs PIT
40 secs vs WPG
35 secs vs CGY
1:01 secs vs VAN
Sure in the year he avg about 16 seconds but recently he has seen a shitload of time on the PP.
He's getting peppered with shots each and every game.
Yeah but that has a double sided blade...on many occasions it cost the team a goal.
It's the type of player he is. He will not change; it's part of the package.
Zach Smith, this guy is stepping up his game huge, he' stopped taking dumb penalities, plays a hard physical grinding game, defensively responsible and scoring some clutch goals. He's starting to look a lot like the guy we had on our team last year who wore #12...
The Bad:
The Sens need to find a way to keep the shots against us down, that's how a team like Pitts is able to score 6 goals. Need to get into the lane and block more shots...
The Ugly:
That skate boot that broke Filatov's nose, that looked fucking painful!
Too bad Kuba is made out of glass, if he goes down injured and is out for awhile than that really hurts our chances of trying to shop him at the TD...
C'mon Eeyore - that's flat out not true. Unless you're going to hedge and say "keep the player in perspective when I say 'many'".
spezza, foligno, regin, winchester, z.smith, da costa, zibanejad.
spezza locks up 1C, winchester and z.smith split 3C and 4C between them. regin, dacosta, zibanejad will fight for 2C. Foligno is turning out good the past few games in 2C but we need a better sample size. I think the re-injury to Regin is probably the worst incident for the team in the early going. If Regin can come back and pan out at 2C later this season, then the sens would have a fairly decent lineup of centers who can get the job done (im not talking light the league on fire), just getting the job done. ....should be interesting how it pans out...some interesting pieces on this sens team. cant wait for them ALL to be healthy.
Oh I know that very well, I'm still on the fence on his off production vs his def shortcomings.
Line of the year?
Classic.
Go Sens Go,
Spendzza
Hax, even you can clearly see it, He was personally responsible for 2 goals last night and figured into 1 for the Sens. On a team that is supposedly playing well and competing everynight, he is a -2 on the season, thats pretty bad considering he's way up there in points. I'm not a huge fan of +- as many fans dont know how to interpret them in different situations. What that -2 says is:
5 on 5 he is not good, he is deadly on the PP.
Cant believe yous till want to try Regin at 2C, cut & move on. He is damaged goods, he hasnt shown anything that says he can be a 2C in the NHL. He has shown that he can get innjured on a regular basis and not score for 35+ games.
Commentators last night were saying that Smith asked for more ice time in general. He started to produce, so he worked his way onto the pp.
Good on him, I like hearing that guys want to be out there.
I'm not comparing the players Tookie but your argument isn't very strong. Lidstrom finished the season with 62 points last season and was a -2. Playing on a MUCH better team than the sens, I guess that means he was not very good 5 on 5.
I agree with you often man, but you're wrong on this one.
You can keep your negative bullshit to yourself thank you
Stupid leaf fan jerks are trying to ruin our All-star game. I saw this one coming a mile away knowing how classless many of them are.
My god how many times do I have to post this stat
Differential on-ice/off-ice +/- per 60:
Karlsson on ice: -0.13
Karlsson off-ice: -0.55
Now considering his quality of competition stat pus him and kuba against all other top line players in the league take this stat for what it truly shows.
When Karlsson is on the ice vs the best players he is -0.13 per game (doesn't include his contributions on the pp) Now when he is off the ice, and our other 4 d are playing the lesser players our team as a whole is -0.55 per game
Karlsson doesn't have the defensive shortcomings as we all think! Sure he does but his production clearly off sets it and statistically its better to have him on ice than off ice
Well, no problems with Kessel.. He definitely deserves to be there... As much as it pains me to say...
Yeah I agree, Karlsson is nowhere near as bad defensively as his rep is.. Sorry Tookie I also think your off on this one..
Zone Finish offensive %:
Which means average number of times a shift ends with a player in the offensive zone:
Karlsson: 49.5%
Kuba: 47.3%
Cowen: 45.8%
Phillips: 43.6%
Gonchar: 43.3%
What does this show: That 50% of the time karlsson is on the ice, his presence is felt by generating offense and limiting opposing chances. Take Phillips as an example. 43% of the time he is likely to be pinned or trapped in his own end with anderson covering the puck
Which defender would you prefer?
And according to the hockey world, that was a bad season for Lidstrom and had been thought to be his last season...Hence why he wasnt even nominated as a Norris finalist. Come on man, even you should know that. Lidstrom struggled last year.
Well the fact that he plays for the blue team means I can't bring myself to agree, but if he played for anyone else maybe...
We know Sid will be top three among forwards eventually though so we really need to make sure Kessel doesn't also crack the top three. And Riemer third in goalie voting? Yikes.
Lidstrom won the norris last year bud, but nice try
Interesting stat but I think this one can also have a lot to do with the coaches - i.e. once we're in the offensive zone Phillips would usually change off for an OFD thus sort of skewing his stats. Still a great indicator though.
EEEEEEEYORE !
What the hell are you talking about EH Matt, Kessel is leading the League in scoring, he deserves to be there for that alone. It is an All-Star game after all.
BOOOOM!
Yeah Tookie "even you should know that"!
LOL
Hey 'chirp - how's that "ignore" buttom coming along? Any ETA?
Interesting stat but I think this one can also have a lot to do with the coaches - i.e. once we're in the offensive zone Phillips would usually change off for an OFD thus sort of skewing his stats. Still a great indicator though.
I definitely agree. Look at the the % of off zone starts for our d (off zone/ off zone + def zone)
Cowen= 57.9%
karlsson=57.3%
kuba=56.4%
gonchar=50.3%
phillips=49.3%
This shows Cowen true ability this year lol. starts off in the off zone 58% of the time, but only finishes in the off zone 46% of the time lol
Aside from him on average most dmen drop about 7%
Yes he did, and it just shows you how how fixed he NHL is. this was a going away present to Lidstrom who was thought to be taking his retirement in the off season.
Yandle & Visnovky got robbed...
Really Took... this is coming from a Sens fan???
Smith was phenomenal last night, he is proving that the Fisher trade was genius, as he is, if not better then Fish, just as good.
That was a great win, and he was a huge part of that.
Screw the stats, and just watch the games.
Smith and Karlsson were incredible in last nights win!
Like I didnt know, what you probably didnt know:
The James Norris Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League's top "defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position".
Show me or prove to me that Lidstrom beats out Visnovsky or Yandle accordiing to that decription.
62 points as a dman wasn't the reason? Visnovsky got majority of points on that killer pp. Your pointless to argue with because you jus stretch anything to get your point of view across
we are saying karlsson can win norris one day and can potentially be lidstrom. you come back and say he aint no lidtsrom! then when we prove your wrong, you come back with why the nhl was wrong. totalling going away from your original argument. btw karlsson or vish or yandle..who do you want?
Wow, the last result of the desperate man - "They're all against me!", "It was a frame up I tells ya!", "It's a conspiracy!"
Maybe Tookie is R-Truth???
Don't you think Tookie knows that? What you probably don't know is that Weber and Chara were IN ON IT!. It was all a scheme by the NHL to prevent Visnovsky and Yandle from getting pay raises, thus allowing the Republican Party to finance covert operations in North Vietnam on behalf of McDonalds and Coca-Cola!
C'mon - wake up will ya!
(kidding of course)
Vishnovski finished 28 at 0.044 second on his own team to toni lydman
Yandle 4th highest on his own team.
So this shows as best dman yandle isn't even trusted enough over klesla and morris to play top lines
on-ice +/- per 60: (5v5)
Lidstrom: .05
Vishnovski: 0.71
Yandle: 0.47
TTl Points: (per 60 min)
Lidstrom: .87
Vishnovski: 1.39
Yandle: 1.21
So if you look, it shows lidstrom still almost put up a point per 60 min while playing top lines night in night out. yandle got babied all last year so clear. if anything maybe vish has a legit shot at winning. but lidstrom still is best dman in league
Of course nobody even atempts to prove me wrong, funny isnt it...
Alcatraz, I never said I didnt want Karlsson on the team, read up son, I said he sucks 5 on 5 and is deadly on the PP.
And as for your reason why Lids won and Lub didnt, scoring all his points on that killer PP. Wrong again...God I love stats!
Lidstrom scored 39 of his 62 points on the PP with 7 goals.
Visnovsky scored 32 of his 68 points on the PP with 5 goals.
Thank you come again...
Great game by the team last night, and every bit as entertaining as I had hoped for.
Phillips gets very little credit these days, but he played an absolutely amazing game last night and that spinarama save/pass at the blue line that lead to Spezza's goal was a great play for a DFD.
Forget bottom 5, we want the playoffs! GO SENS GO!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOLBQxk72NY
first- lidstron didnt win the Norris- WRONG
second- yandle and visnovsky were nominated AND robbed- WRONG
third- the NHL is running a conspiracy against every d-man not named lidstrom lol
what a troll...i hope soon you have mercy on yourself and stop uttering absolute garbage on this forum.
The starting lineups arent determined by the voting anymore I thought given that the teams are picked by the captains?
Vishnovski: 0.603
Lidstrom: 0.017
So vishnovski regularly skated with perry-getzlaf-r yan the whole year while lidstrom played with his shutdown forward lines. In case your wondering often rafalski was on ice with datsyuk as their attacking offense
I'm pretty big on stats also
Where you getting those stats bro? Curious.
EK65
behindthenet.ca
best advanced stats tool out there
Well if you can read, which I'm starting to doubt, I never said Yandle and Vis we're nominated.
I put 2010 for awards and it gave me Duncan Keith, which was for the 2009-10 season not 2010-11, my bad.
Secondly, for people who hate the NHL and all of its rules and regulations and basically everything about the NHL, you now scold me for saying the NHl had a hand in giving out awards to Lids instead of the most deserving D-men? Especially when Lids had broken or became a new title holder, something about swedish Captain, bla bla bla, cant look it up right now.
Hahaha too funny.
Good point - maybe Kessel will lead in votes but still be picked last and maybe stuck on the fourth line since everyone in the NHL seems to think he's a douche.
Zach Smith or Zenon Konopka?
Ok man you win the argument, with those stats, I cant do anything. Nice site!
1. that you can type the correct AND relevant search terms when looking up stats.
2. that you can also make the correct reference in your posts:
"And according to the hockey world, that was a bad season for Lidstrom and had been thought to be his last season...Hence why he wasnt even nominated as a Norris finalist. Come on man, even you should know that. Lidstrom struggled last year."
learn to read your own words before you click "send".
and who here hates everything about the NHL lol? dude, stop living under a rock, you sound like a caveman born literally yesterday.
happy diggin'. at this rate you really will need an alberta oil sands type excavator.
HAX this is brilliant!!!!
I was laughing so hard I choked on my Shawarma!
people in the office want me to send them the email of the great joke I just read... that was hilarious!!!
First time I ever gave Tookie a thumbs up. Someone mark the date that Tookie actually admitted someone else was right.
Hax you are killing it today bud... this is funny stuff
Is he going to hide in shame behind his continuously wrong predictions? Of course not, he is still there, proud of his certitude that the world of hockey is exactly working the way Tookie thinks it is.
You are the funny one!
I pity you in the same time…
Hax
job well done, as you now know it take plenty of effort to get Tookie to admit what eveyone else has known for a long time...he is wrong more often then he thinks, or cares to admit
Anyway great game last night, and as much as I hated to see Fish and Kelly go, I have to say that watching Smith and Condra is in a lot of ways much more exciting... no offence to Fish and Kelly fans, I just think that Smith and Condra are ahead of where Smith and Kelly were at their repsective times in their careers.
Just sayin...
ouch Tooks...seems like your house of cards is coming down bud... the worlds are colliding, everyone who knew they were right when arguing with you now want their peace
Nikita Filatov does not have a broken nose after all and expects to play Thursday in Dallas. #nhl #sens
Oh really? Sweet!
Filip Kuba (upper body) doubtful for tomorrow. MacLean says Brian Lee would be a more likely option than Carkner.
Spezza anyone? Just like him, you get what you get. I think that Karlsson's play in the defensive zone is also vastly improved over last year and that's what we want right? Improved play from year to year. Let's keep it in perspective too, after all the kid's only 21 years old.
@Sensfan1741
I too have been concerned with Anderson's play this year. However, dare i compare his play last night to that of Grant Fuhr? I do dare! He made some pretty big saves in that third period to keep the Sens in it till they broke through. That's the kind of play that wins playoff games imo.
Then why didn't he play the rest of the game? Letang came back from a nose that WAS broken to score the game-winner in overtime...I guess Filly doesn't play with a bobo?
ian_mendes Ian Mendes
Filatov says he should be able to play tomorrow vs DAL. Reason he didn't come back vs WPG was headache/dizzin ess from hit.
That's pretty funny, I was thinking the same thing while watching the game last night. He's been disappointing, but if he keeps playing the Grant Fuhr style of not allowing the last goal, I can live with it.
WOW TOOKS, you are really pathetic today. Proven wrong and you still want to argue. Lol Dude wake up.
If you read my post correctly you'd know that I didn't say that Peluso had a small Penis. I said I wouldn't say that because I had never met the man. And since Peluso has actually been to Winnipeg I suppose he is entitled to his own opinion based on his observations and experiences here.
Just trying to make a point about generalizing based on the actions of a few idiots. Speaking of, let's talk about all of those Habs fans at Sens games....
Is it just me or does that sound like concussion related symptoms?
Fracture your nose and take a boot to the head and let me know if you wont be feeling dizzy
truth be known this is more reason to show how bad the concussion policy is in NHL. Filatov probably told not to return where as Letang just wanted back out for OT so they didn't do the protocol
I'm not arguing his toughness or his resulting symptoms, just want to make sure he doesn't rush back with a concussion. Given that this is his first true shot to make the team, he might push himself to hide the severity of the symptoms. Just hope that's not the case.
touché sir
The PK used to be 30th I believe... so it has come up -- albeit slowly. Consider Sens PK'ers are Smith, Condra, Daug & Winchester... for the most part. They are doing a good job.
Glad to hear it and not worried at all about Lee playing over Kuba. Kuba's been fine this year, but he's not part of our team in 2-3 years while Lee still could be.
I don't get this either? Why has ALL trade talk been focused around Ryan? I'm going to spend part of my lunch hour looking at the others' contracts, maybe they have NMCs?
Getzlaf and Perry are the better players???? Perry just came off an MVP season and Getzlaf is a top 10 center. Trading Ryan makes far more sense than either of those two.
According to cap geek, none of those three players have NTC's.
Fisher used to play on the 4th line, then to the 3rd line, and worked his way up.
Fisher used to play on the PK a lot too.
I'm Hoping Z. Smith can exceed all of our expectations, and surpass what M. Fisher did for us.
So those Jet fans are also Leaf fans -- it's obvious.
Personally I'd keep Perry out of the 3, mainly because Getzlaf is always injured. Ryan is a great up and comer, but his value on the trade market might actually be higher then his potential right now. Getzlaf and Perry don't have much further up to go up and are the cornerstones of that franchise like Spezza and Alfie in Ottawa.
If I was Anaheim I'd keep all three guys unless they could trade Ryan for another big name center to play behind Getzlaf or a star defenseman.
Not the same kind of D as Karlsson -- but could the Sens look at this as comparison?
Wow, I can't believe Hedman got so much already, this probably signals that Karlsson will get even more ... thank god we have so much cap room!
Ohh yes, I'm hiding alright, exiled myself even...LOL.
Like I said before, bottom 5 is where we will end up and until they prove me wrong, thats where I'm at. After winning many games in exciting fashion and being competitive in almost everygame, we still sit at 19th in the league, or 8th in the East, still plenty of time to drop. Do you really think NJ, WSH and TB wont pass us? Those teams will get going as we run out of gas.
We are 4th in our own DIV and only 4 points out of 13th.
Our division has all 5 teams with at least a point per game. Most competitive division so far. So being 4th isn't all that bad if 4 teams make the playoffs (not saying 4 will). It'd be nice if you just enjoyed a win instead of feeling like you needed to take everyone down and prevent any sens love fest today.
Of course they will and you can be sure Karlsson is looking to cash in.
Not stopping any "Sens love fest" however bad that sounds, go ahead, go nuts...
Go Sens go,
Spendzza
Not only that, I think they will look at this amount as only the starting point for negotiations. I suspect they will aim for a much higher amount.
You can look at all the stats you want but when you lead your team in ice time, coach thinks you're good enough. Karlsson has even grabbed PK ice time lately, well deserved at that.
I love how the Sens recently won back to back games against teams they can and need to beat to stay in the hunt. Man, this team is well coached and ready to play every night. I love that they recently rebounded from a loss
(vs PITT) with a win for, I believe, the first time this year. I may be wrong but regardless, it shows this team is mentally prepared every night, even after a loss.
Oh you can be sure of it, I dont see Karlsson taking anything under 5+mil a season.
YAWN !
Our PK is operating at 79%, 25th in the league, Karlsson on it doesnt help at all, he doesnt belong on the PK, more chances of him getting hurt.
Only tookie would look at a three way tie for 17th and say we're 19th.
(Of course he's going to come back and say he just looked on TSN.ca and didn't bother to see if we were tied with other teams, yada, yada, eeyore.)
Look at it however you want, make any kind of excuses you want, those are the facts.
High risk/high reward.
I dont watch TSN, its garbage. We are officially in 19th, there is no such thing as "tied for 17th". ever heard of tiebreakers? I guess not. Read up a bit.
But Rundblad is the only D with less 4-on-5 time per game than Karlsson. How can you blame Karlsson for the PK?
LMFAO - tiebreakers in November? Hoooookay there buddy. Whatever helps you see the negatives.
Where am I blaming Karlsson? I'm saying he shouldnt be on it.
and then you rip on karlsson? every team in the league will open its mouth like a hungry dog if BM put karlsson on the market today.
seriously tookie, i think even leafs fans will fade out compared to you when it comes to negativity and vitriol about the sens. and yes that takes into account the times when the sens were absolute shit. get a life man, its just a sport first and then its a team you supposedly root for.
Not that it will happen, Tookie, but Sens are only 4 pts out of division lead.. and 6 pts out of 1st overall in the East... and 8 pts out of 15th... So the East is very tight.. anything can happen.
A-hah! But the PK has improved since EK starting getting more time on it. He's not the sole reason of course, but he does appear to be helping.
Maybe Alcatraz can produce some stats of how often our PK gives up a goal with EK on the ice compared to when he's not on the ice.
LMFAO, not my fault its fact, you can continue to believe we're "tied" for 17th.
Wow, are you gonna cry man, geez, alot of sensitive suzies here!! LOL
I didnt rip Karlsson, I gave good and bad opinions. I wouldnt trade him for anything less than what he's worth and thensome!
I dont think it has improved Sandy, myabe by .01/2 which is minimal. It just doesnt seem wise to put Karlsson on the PK. If he goes down, can you imagine the uproar "what was he doing on the PK" Bla bla bla....
So exactly, anything can happen, the tight asses that rip me for saying the Sens will be bottom 5 are not much smarter saying the Sens can make the playoffs...
Its an opinion, put on your shit kickers!
He is elite, deal with it.
always exciting when the puck is on his stick, screw any stats.
He oozes skill, anyone that does not love that as a fan needs their head read.
you guys that ooh and awe over other teams players and wish they were on our team need to appreciate our guys more, lots of other teams would love to have him.
picking him apart is just stupid, same with Spezza.
"Tied for 17th" is pretty darn good when 16 teams get a playoff spot. Sens are overacheiving this year and it's sure nice to enjoy. Pauly Mac will have this team fighting for a playoff spot by season's end.
Tooks are you by any chance that "Walter" character by Jeff Dunham ?
It would be heavily skewered as Karlsson only recently got PK duty.
Its a great site, I'll see what I can come up with.
I'm glad you pointed out how the coach played a hunch in the thrid by throwing our third line on the PP. They earned the chance by being the best line on the ice through the first 2 periods. This is one of the issues I always harped on with Clouston (how he always stuck to his 2 PP units no matter how bad they were, or how good the other lines were)
I dont think it has improved Sandy, myabe by .01/2 which is minimal. It just doesnt seem wise to put Karlsson on the PK. If he goes down, can you imagine the uproar "what was he doing on the PK" Bla bla bla....[/quot
He does not panic whith the puck he makes smart plays and he gets the puck out of the zone fast.maybe that is why he's on the pk.
Does anyone remember who used to regularly lead the league in giveaways? You may have heard of him - Wayne Gretzky?
I wonder is it has anything to do with how many times he had the puck on his stick...
I agree to an extent here (except I'm not Sandy).
Similar to Alfie (due to keeping his minutes down in general) and Spezza (to maximize his PP and 5-on-5 minutes) I would hope Karlsson doesn't get a ton of PK time either. But I wouldn't nail him to the bench either. He's young and if he's rested up for his regular shift I'd still throw him out there on the PK. Or if it's a key kill late in a game (though one could argue there won't be any key games for a couple of years).
You're right that people would freak in hindsight if he happened to get hurt on the PK but I don't know if that's statistically that big a risk or not. I get that you block a lot of shots on the PK but I don't think it's significantly more likely to get injured on the PK than at any other time.
Giveaways is a tough one since there are so many variables. Did the opposing player make a lucky poke-check? Did someone get lucky and knock down a saucer pass? Did a teammate zig when he should have zagged?
I think Spezza and Karlsson play on the edge for sure and push the envelope of creativity, but less and less often do they make the kind of mistakes Spezza made in his first year or so.
Because time and space is given on the PK (to some extent), most penalty killer get in shooting lanes and block shots, you usually have your best shot blockers on the PK.
Didnt Karlsson get hurt getting infront of a shot that tipped up and hit him in the mouth, busting his nice smile!! Imagine if that would of hit him in the eye...
Spezza is not stupid! I'll have you know it is motivation that drives him! :)
I agree with you and similar to Spezza and Alfie it doesn't make sense to put your stars in the line of fire if you don't have to. But if you're going for a counter-attack style of PK where you try to possess the puck etc then EK can be very effective (again, skill is skill). Same for Spezza in that regard.
But ideally you have other great PK guys that allow your elite skill guys to focus on 5-on-5 and powerplay time.
But in 3 years when we're playing playoff series etc, I would expect that Karlsson will end up getting lots of PK time - maybe 3rd or 4th among our D. Hopefully our first shutdown pair is Cowen and someone else (Lee?) but we may see Rundblad and Karlsson as our second pairing on PK.
Rundblad, Karlsson and Cowen are all solid locks of course. Lee seems to figure into the top 4 by then (again, assuming no trades or other major changes).
Wiercioch seems like the next guy on the depth chart.
Then is it Gryba or Borowiecki? Or does Wideman figure in? Or is that a goal for the 2012 draft maybe - to find another stud D?
Tookie... ..."Maybe Alcatraz can produce some stats of how often our PK gives up a goal with EK on the ice compared to when he's not on the ice" --
I did not write that...
Don't forget Ben Blood... love that name...
They seem very high on Borowiecki. I have this feeling that WireCock is prime trade bait.
I think they may look to free agency in 2 or 3 years to provide an older, steadying influence on the blueline.
Kind of what they hoped they were getting with Jason Smith, but younger - and with knees.
Cowen taken 9th overall (2009)
Karlsson taken 15th overall (2008)
Rundblad taken 17th overall (2009)
Lyamin second rounder (2004)
Wiercioch second rounder (2008)
Gryba third rounder (2006)
Blood fourth rounder (2007)

Borowiecki fifth rounder (2008)
Claesson fifth rounder (2011)
Sdao seventh rounder (2009)

Am I missing anyone?
Sometimes the debate is healthy but on days like today you can tell he's just doing it to agitate.
On the contrary, I think the main reason there are 171 posts here on a non game day is cause of Tookie...
the site name should be changed from Senschirp to Chirp@Tookie..
It is funny how people get so agitated by tookie's comments.. seems like it has come to a point that if tookie is the author, some of you folks are already ready to pounce even before reading his comments..Does get boring past the 100th comment...
I agree - give him his own sand box to play in.
Nothing he says is of interest to me.
An Ignore feature would solve everything. The guy occassionally has something relevant to say but if he gets under anyone's skin they could just ignore him and not worry about it.
Chirp's right though - I'm pretty sure half the time took is just posting something to stir the pot.
i was at the game and didnt really notice many boos towards single players but i was too into the game lol i know at the games prior theyve (the fans) been booing the best player on the other team trying to get them off their game
