The Senators will be without defenceman Sergei Gonchar for this one.
He took a shot off the ankle early in the game against Washington and has a bruised ankle. The team is calling it day to day but he will not be in the line up tonight. That means Brian Lee will draw back in on the back end.
Meanwhile up front, the Sens will once again be without Bobby Butler. He injured his groin last Thursday against the Avalanche and has been placed on the IR. With Winchester still on the shelf, the Sens will go with the same twelve forwards that dressed in Washington.
- Greening-Spezza-Zibanejad
- Michalek-Da Costa-Alfredsson
- Foligno-Regin-Neil
- Smith-Konopka-Condra
- Phillips-Lee
- Kuba-Karlsson
- Cowen-Rundblad
Craig Anderson is expected to dress as the back up tonight with Alex Auld set to make his second straight start. Anderson missed practice due to personal reasons yesterday and with Auld coming off a strong start in Washington, MacLean has decided to go back to him tonight.

Looking for a breakout game from both Line 1 and Line 2,
and we can count on Line 3, to check the daylights out of the Flyers top lines !!
Senators 4 Flyers 3
Rockin Robert
I understand Auld had a decent game... but shouldn't we let our #1 play? Unless, the personal reason have sidelined him just enough...
MacLean said he made the decision based on Anderson's personal issue. Nothing to worry about.
Game tonight will be awesome!! Same lineup as last time... time off to fix minor errors.... tonight we shall see a 60 min game from our boys and a 4-2 win!
I have a feeling we will see him back for game 10 on-wards. Once the 9 game tryout is complete for many players... some will get sent down opening up a gap for Filatov.
I think you're blowing this a little out of proportions. I know Chirp mentioned that Anderson is sitting for personal reasons, and that's fine...but I'm of the opinion that you have to play the hot hand.
I like Anderson, I'm aware of why his stats are horrible so far (D letting him out to dry), Auld had a great game against Washington and deserves a second test. I don't think anyone is saying that there is a goaltender debate, Anderson is obviously still our #1, but I for one am glad to see Auld get a second try as he was solid last game, and let's be honest...Anders on hasn't had a "great" game yet.
Part of a coach's job is to put in/out players as they get hot/cold, and Auld is the "hotter" goalie right now.
Or maybe Anderson is just dealing with stuff and I'm looking too much into this
As mentioned before only Zib is on a 9 game tryout due to his age. Greening Condra Butler are here to stay and don't have Entry Level Contracts
Rundblad could technically be sent away also but that doesn't affect Filatov, but Rundblad will have a year of ELC knocked off anyway
One move I would be curious to see is a line of Foligno-Spezza- Filatov. I think Foligno is more skilled than Greening but can still give that phsicality and net presence while Filatov and Spezza do their magic.
I'd just hate to break Foligno-Regin-N eil though but it should be worth a shot. Give us a chance to see if Foligno really has top 6 potential before we re-sign him next year.
Hahaha nice, teams always put in their backps vs us, LOL.
Its like a rest game for them...lol.
It was speculation at best, there is no trade to be made...
Reimer, Backstrom and Vokoun are their respective teams back-ups? That's news to me Tookie. although im sure we'll face more than our fair share of back-ups over the year compared to other teams. Just like the leafs did a few seasons ago lol now that's a bad sign!
Im sorry but that is not being realistic, Philly wins this one 4-1.
No but Giguere and Bobvroski are and were going to see many more!
it's shocking I know but it appears that even though Eklund mentioned a possible trade, nothing happened.
Stay off Anderson? I agree, however, you can't expect a typical Sens fan to lay off any player in this city. Our fanbase loves to run players out of town and then they wonder why we can't attract any quality UFA's.
Do you guys think that when players from other teams hear about how some of you fuckheads booed Kuba and Gonchar during the opening night introductions that it will make them see Ottawa as an attractive free agency destination.
Sens fans need to wake up and use their brains for once!!
Sens fans need to wake up and use their brains for once!!
To me, most of the Ottawa fans that "boo" Sens players, are most likely Leafs and Hab fans, who do the same in Montreal or Toronto, when their teams suck !!
Rockin Robert
Do we? I thought our media did, not our so much us fans...
Oh right so we should blindly cheer and accept our overpaid, overrated, shitty excuses for players?
They get paid millions to do their jobs, do it right or get the fuck out!
Rockin Robert
So you're telling me that Scotia Bank Place was packed with leafs and Habs on opening night against the Wild? I don't think so.
I think it was the same fans that have been tryin to drive Spezza out of town for years, the ones that treated Redden like shit after all he did for the community, and the ones that called for our captain to be traded before our cup run. No man, there are a ton of stupid Sens fans.
Agree
Agree
and...agree :)
And no Tookie, "us guys" don't think we will win this 4-1. that was 1 poster. I say 4-2 flyers (3-2 + an open netter). Much better odds for next 2 games though :).
We'd love to see EriK and Rundblad together tonight..."Shoo t the Works!"
That's such a lazy argument. You know that already though.
Media and fans alike!
Just because it's an easy argument, it doesn't make it a lazy one - just an obvious one.
There always seems to be a player on the team that fans will got on when they are struggling.
Yes, there are many examples for Ottawa; Redden, Alfie, Spezza and so on. I think it's annoying and frustrating, but I don't think its unique.
If anything, I think we tend to think the worst of ourselves. The fact that there is a pretty steady readership on Chirp's site suggests that there are clearly dedicated fans.
Quoting AlfieforMayor11:
To me, most of the Ottawa fans that "boo" Sens players, are most likely Leafs and Hab fans, who do the same in Montreal or Toronto, when their teams suck !!
Rockin Robert
did you pay your hard earned money to watch that embarrassment last Thursday... Kuba and Gonchar should retire and end the embarrassment!
As I said yesterday, the rumours are based purely on speculation. Nothing to it right now.
http://chilisports.strikehost.info
Enjoy!
So by that logic, considering the Avs are one of the worst in the league, we shouldn't be able to score more than 1 against almost anyone. And since the lowly Avs scored 7 on us I think your prediction is a little bit unrealistic... 12-0 Flyers
Nice thing about pro sports is that they're unpredictable. We don't know who'll show up, just because we're projected for the bottom (and I expect us to be around the bottom throughout the year) doesn't mean we won't pull the odd upset once in a while.
We don't need any crybabies on the team... Players should know that if they don't give an effort, then they will be treated that way...
I don't understand why everyone is freaking out about this. I agree it was wrong to do it during player intro's, but at the same time, people need to let them know they won't tolerate poor efforts.
Chirp here is how the defense pairing are lining up tonight:
Phillips - Lee
Kuba - Karlsson
Cowen - Rundblad
Source TSN Icechips
Must be because TSN Icechips want the Sens to lose the game.
I prefer the one Chirp had :
Phillips - Rundblad
Kuba - Karlsson
Cowen - Lee
Rockin Robert
Remember how early BM started working on trades last year? He flat out said he was trying about 2 weeks into the season and they didn't materialize until closer to the trade deadline. Most of what we'll hear right now are just rumors about the groundwork being laid for future deals. Very few big deals are made this early in the season as every team still has hope for themselves, their prospects and their season and aren't normally ready to throw in the towel.
Yep. Lazy, easy, obvious. These are all good words to describe it.
Absolutely agree that there are plenty of dedicated fans out there. What pisses me off is the stupid belief that only optimistic/posi tive fans are dedicated.
Just because I think we will miss the playoffs this year and just because I thik we could very well end up with a lottery pick doesn't make me any less dedicated than somebody who expects us to finish in the top 2 of the division or top 5 of the conference.
Dedication does not solely equate to positivity. All I ask from any team I support is that they try each and every time they play. So far this season 4/5.
I'm really enjoying the season so far and don't expect that to change.
on Oct 25 in Carolina.
At the 10th game, we should have our actual roster, and some players, will have been told, that they are going elsewhere (Binghamton or wherever ) !
Tough decisions to be made in about 1 week from today !!
Rockin Robert
Which ever way you want to look at it, its FACT!
Its straight to the point, you dont play well and dont try to improve, you'll get booed.
Get used to it, its gonna get louder as we progress!
You cant say the first 2 games we tried, the score doesnt indicate the fact we got blown-out and completely out played 50 of the 60 minutes of a game...Trying for 1 persiod is not what I want from this team and neither should all of you.
I would say 2/5 we were in good shape.
Not really hard RR, Zib goes to AHL or SEL.
Rundblad stays, no point in sending him anywhere, he aint gonna improve anywhere else byt the NHL.
Da Costa get 2C.
What about Winchester, Konopka, Regin, Da Costa,Butler, and maybe Rundblad??
You seem to think it's just a piece of cake ??
Rockin Robert
I'm not an expert, so Murray and MacLean will find it difficult to cut any player(s).
I would give Regin another look till game 20 or so !
Rockin Robert
Thought it was interesting to see Fraser fielding fans' questions. Apparently you can e-mail him a question regarding calls made/not made during a game.
Seeing as Ottawa seems to get shafted in this aspect of the game - would be interesting to fire off some questions!
cmonref
Going to the game... excited to see Cowen & Rundblad play.. please no report of the Avs game I was at... I think they will come out hard... but they may be outmatched.
Just work hard and you never know.. they may come out of the game with a win or at least a point.
Foligno-Regin-N eil will take care of them... I hope that is the line against them and not the Spezza line.
Rundblad gets his first NHL goal.
my prediction.
Yeah like how there was not a penalty or even a look at the play by the Wash player (can't remember who) on the blindside hit to the head of Greening. I would really like to know his answer on that one.
We should send that question to Shanny...
I would like to know why our goal was disallowed when we were pushed into the goalie!
What do you mean I just told you about 3 of the 6 you posted?
Zib to AHL or SEL.
Rundblad stays cuz of contract, no point in sending him to AHL or SEL.
Da Costa get 2nd line centre.
Konopka stays, he's got a 1 way.
Butler is on IR.
Regin has a 1 way.
Winchester has a 1 way.
I'm going to 2nd Blads getting his first NHL Goal. Posted it on FB this morning too!!! Him and EK are going to be working some serious magic back and forth on the PP, Sergei who?
Really hoped Gonch would have relished the fact that he has kids to mentor, kids looking up to him. But he doesn't seem to give a flying F
I really hope Fila comes back before, if/when ZBad is sent to AHL or SEL, I'd love to see Zbad - Spezz - Fila tried for 2 or 3 games.
If the same Sens that played Saturday come to play tonight it's going to be A LOT closer than some think
I hope EK has another repeat performance defending
Go Sens Go, Play hard!
Oh my Sandy, put that line vs Giroux, Jagr and JVR and your asking for trouble, I hope your not serious. Way too much talent for our 3rd line to handle...Not to mention JVR and Jagr are bigger than all 3 of our guys!! lol
Agree 100%
You just answered your own question, remember, every ref if different and this is to the refs discretion. He thought Michalek could have avoided or atleast made an attempt to avoid the goalie.
#9 is pushed in but kept his stick and glove on the goalie for just an instant but just an instant too long...the Ref could have let it go...
Ya know this BS where it all evens out, I have solid documented proof, gathered over three yers, that we, the SENs, get the call less than 25% of the time...
Man you must really hate the refs!!
All they have to do is work harder and want it more...
Not sure if you are responding to my statement about the blindside head shot to Greening or not.
That was almost the identical hit by the Wash player.. that Clarke McArthur was suspended 2 games for.
By the way Greening was moving his jaw on the bench.. I assume that's where he was hit.
Not even a penalty.. and no mention of a review. Now that's a head scratcher.
Do you think Spezza, Greening & Z-Bad would do any different. Well if not the Neil line (the checking line) then it had better be Da Costa's line.
I know hockeybuzz is dumb and usually wrong but it's a trade that would work for both teams.
I'd say no deal. Eberle and a 1st and we'll talk. That should cut off talks ; )
If he gets traded BM is going to regret it by the end of 2012-13 GUARANTEED!
Are u kidding me man trade rundblad your crazy guarantee he would regret it if any of our stud 3 gies than one of their 3 in return
In the Ottawa Citizen of today, both teams are listed side by side. Including players who are injured ottawa has 27 players +2 goalies = 29 ! Flyers have a total of 24.
My math says we have too many players !
What say you Tookie ????
Have seen and experienced this official bias in hockey, football, rugby, hardball and even golf. If you are any good and from Ottawa...
Just ask Colie Campbell!
Why trade anyone, no one is fully developed and this team is loaded up future up front talent and bam end no trades are needed in my view.
agreed. making a trade at this point would just seem like doing a trade "for the hell of it" and just helps oilers, we dont need any help
People, we will not be going after UFA's this summer, we will be loading up summer of 2013 after our rookies develop and we get 2 more top 10 picks.
Then lookout Sens fans....
I know this is somewhat contradictory but we need at least one for sure star....I personally would be ecstatic if our current guys panned out and we got Yakupov.
Then although I wouldn't expect much the next season I wouldn't outright expect the 1st overall pick in 2013. Another top 10ish pick would be great, but I would be much more satisfied with our future outlook(oh and another high end goalie prospect)
Tookie as hard as this is for me to say...you are right again sir!!! Ouch!!!
THANK YOU!
Hopefully we can bounce back.
for sane fans what was to be expected.
looks like 2 of my favorite teams are crap this year. Suck for Luck and fail for Nail.
I think Chris Phillips is absolutely brutal and hasnt done nothing right for the past 2-3 years. He is no better then a 5-6th d-man.
Rebuilding does not have to equal brutal hockey. See Edmonton the last couple years.
This is really pathetic.
Cheers!
fair enough
I'll drink to that! This is like watching a beer league game.
It's our goalies that are brutal.
We need a goalie.
I feel sorry for the poor fans who paid money to see this.
Agreed...I seriously wouldn't hold it against him to ask to go to a contending team.
Lets just be sure to be unlike the Sens tonight, and be responsible with what's in our hands.
Det, Tor, Col, Philly (barring something incredible) were pretty much over early aside from a few teases...
Honestly, nobody is going to want to go to games if this keeps up. I will pay money to see them if they make the games entertaining and competitive.
I could care less if they lose...at least make them entertaining games...I've turned this one off already - again.
Also, Condra doesn't belong out there. I realize this is a young team and they all need to learn, but he is not an NHL'r in my books. Even if he scores one or two, here and there...he's lost out there.
Damn...
I COMPLETELY agree.
But I'm a firm believer that the team is actually good.
The goaltending this season has been downright horrid. Like you said, the second goal that Auld let in the other night pretty much lost us the game. The team dominated Washington and actually played well.
We have cap space. Keep Lehner down in Bingo, and sign a goalie who wants to show up. I know we are rebuilding, but rebuilding doesnt mean losing every game 7-0.
You think we can muster 2 goals?
..............
why am i seeing more of the same from last year....when its supposed to be different.....e ven if they lose atrociously.... .
Pageau and our stud def we r looking at a bright future. Oilers vs sens
2014 cup finals ....FAIL FOR NAIL baby
No one here is saying we're winning the cup this year (every year) LOL
Time to get serious about this Rebuild someone has to tell Murray that he should go ask Holmgren what it takes too trade away your 2 top players and gain young talent and draft picks !!!!!!
hahahaa good point
but what i mean everyday there fans throw there players under the boss and they already have there hands on every outlet training to pull the plug.
In Murray we Trust
But either has anyonelse. Kinda unfair to single out the "backup goalie" in this one.
When there's no one complaining there'll be days like this
When everything falls into place like the flick of a switch
Well my mama told me there'll be days like this
When you don't need to worry there'll be days like this
When no one's in a hurry there'll be days like this
When you don't get betrayed by that old Judas kiss
Oh my mama told me there'll be days like this..."
Just curious.
Not if they continuously give awful passes to each other from 3 feet away like they just did for 30 straight seconds there.
too much passing on that attempt, but I like what I see and I'm so glad they finally tried them together... nothing to lose, right?
Its like playing against your younger brother you make him feel like he can bet you but he really has no chance !!!
Cruise Control mode for Philly
I waited long enough, Ok I'm bragging!
4-1!!
Stay that way!
This was an easy one to call!
Woot for proline!
6-2 hahahah
See what happens when Philly decides too play wow
Damn my prediction was off...
And there goes the crowd, its lonely in here!
I wasnt too high on Couturier but he just punched me it the mouth there!
7-2 hahah im prediction was close haha
Oh right, they left after the 2nd period...
Do you get pleasure from the team losing or pleasure from the fact that you think you're always right?
What exactly is your purpose anyways? Here, let me show you what someone in the complete opposite spectrum as yours is like:
SENS FOR THE CUP THIS YEAR! I KNEW THIS GAME WAS GOING TO BE A LOSS BECAUSE THEY'RE PURPOSELY TANKING FIRST THEN MAKING A PUSH FOR THE #8 SPOT. IT'S ALL A TACTIC. I TOLD YOU SO!
Prove me wrong please Tookie.
He's been very solid for the flyers.
FAIL FOR NAIL !!!!!!!!!!
shot not shit.
FAIL FOR NAIL
They went for a beer knowing we were going to win the next game 12-0.
On the bright side, Karlsson rackin me up some points in my fantasy league.
Colour me impressed.
The truth hurts I know but just think how good we will be in 3-4 years with Yakupov and MacKinnon!!
WOW!
Good luck with what? I'm neither a player, GM, coach or owner... that's your job. So go get me a cup.
Does it hurt you too? Or are you above the level of every one else?
Whatvthe hell does this even mean??
Spezza could have had 5 assists tonight if someone on this team could finish.
Foligno played very well tonight though.... I have to find any positives I can after games like this
Oh am I wrong? Sometimes with the way you and Tookie write here.. it fooled me in to thinking you're either the Stasche, Murray, Melnyk or one of the players.
Excuse me.
Why would it hurt?
I accepted, just like most sane fans that this is a rebuild, and a rebuild takes 2-3 years of bottom feeding.
We suck now so we can get better in the future.
hahaha... I actually just went onto NHLshop to see what Yakupov 10 would look like on a Sens jersey :)
Defensive liability or not, it says a lot that Karlsson almost has as many points as both of them put together playing for one of the teams at the bottom of the standings. Guy is definitely not going anywhere.
He's a generational player, takes over a game...
He has 25pts in 10 games as a 2nd year player on a shitty Sarnia team...(without Galchenyuk too)
They are 8-1 ALL because of him, like Crosby did for Rimouski, all a bunch average players stepping up cuz of his presence.
When Galchenyuk gets back this team will be unstoppable...
Murray will not sign anyone big this summer, we will bottom out this year, 1st overall pick likely, next year we will see slight improvement, im obviously guessing but i think we will improve to draft in the 5-10 range.... after that draft two of Murray's draft prodigies will be free agents, Getzlaf and Perry. At this time Ottawa will have the cap space, provided we hstand pat to make a run at one, or potentially both of them and end up with a cupboard full of prospects and two youngish players to help lead the way with Spezza just think...
Perry Getzlaf Yakupov
Silfverburg Spezza Michalek
Noesen Zabinejad Puempel
Foligno Smith Stone
Karlsson Cowen
Rundblad Lee
Boroweicki Gryba
Lehner
So answer my questions Tookie.
Do you have pleasure seeing the team lose and/or pleasure massaging your own ego?
Do you think you're above every one else?
Also, if lets say in a completely hypothetical question, you lost the love of your life. Would you be hurt? Or would you accept it and move on because you're 'sane'?
good luck getting those players and getting the team under the cap... Your top six forwards would take up a third to a half of your cap space.
I understand people like Karlsson cuz he Swedish and scores goals and gets his points but its like a double edge sword and as along as Karlsson plays defence we will never win a Cup....
Unless we get NAIL!!!
cracker
I bet Zibanejad would be doing better than Couturier if he were drafted by Philly and Couturier by the Sens.
Trying to understand the mindset of you and Tookie. Feel free to answer the questions I posed to him as well.
I'm doing a research namely "The mind and psychology of a bandwagoner fan"
I'd like you and Tookie as my main research subjects.
Karlsson is walking up to the top of the ladder on a team that hasn't been doing well. Could you just imagine his potential when the rest of the team hits there's!
Future Norris
Whatever you are drinking or smoking, I want it.
little harsh don't you think? I'll give you this though... if we do finish last and we do draft Yakupov, I will be ALL over you with every little mistake that Yakupov makes in his first year.
I would be devestated to lose my wife, whats your point?
Are you saying the SENS are the love of your life? If so you got issues bro...
I dont have a problem seeing the team lose, its a rebuild, I accepted it long time ago, I was all for it. I know the future will look much better with a bit of hardship...
keys to success: #1 Get rid of Anderson somehow( BM will have to do some crazy gm stuff because Ottawa needs it or send him to bingo and bring Lehner)
#2 Get rid of Dave Cameron he was one of Melnyk's picks and I think Maclean will be able to get a better substitute and mainly it will give a feeling of newness
#3 Get a darn good defense man that can garn good freaking not give turnovers and bring the puck up and darn good freaking BE RELIABLE!!!!!
Then you wont be on me much...:)
But I understand!
Lol, its okay to dream once and awhile... the cap has gone up every year since the lock out, yes there may be changes with a new CBA, but ZBad, Silfverburg, Noesen, Puempel, Yakupov and Stone will all still be on entry level deals, along with Rundblad & Boroweiki, & Lehner (i think).... Getzlaf, Spezza and Perry will all be in the 6-7 million range, and Karlsson will likely be in the 5 range at this point too. If Murray stands pat this summer, and doesn't try and fill holes via Free agency, i think it is plausible he tries to sign two players he clearly likes the next summer, if we have the cap room.
You have a wife?
This is getting very interesting... you make excellent material for my reseach paper.
Care to answer my first 2 questions Tookie?
It's fun to dream isn't it?
Thats was a bit harsh your right, I mean with a good team Karlsson would rip it up...
But hell, you know the best thing is Karlsson aint going nowhere and will be around when Yak and MacK are rippin it up for us!
If everthing goes well and we dont lose the damn lottery, we could be a Dynasty in 3-4 years!
Everything you said is very doable...WIll we probably not (get Parise).
But 1st overall is almost a lock...
Don't try to crush my Parise dreams Tookie lol
I did and I wont indulge your perverse fantasies any longer...
Make sure mommy gives you your pills tomorrow then come back and try to discuss hockey.
Sens are in an extended meeting right now. I'm sure it's nothing but sunshine, lollipops and puppies in there.
you do not understand the concept of a rebuild
No amount of pure Patrick Roy and Marty Brodeur could save us.
2)I love Karlsson! I think he has the potential to put up 30 goals and 80 points as a D man. But I can see Tookies point. I sometimes wonder if the Sens could win the cup with Karlsson as a top 2 defenseman. Teams that win the Stanley cup don`t have consistent defensive lapses. That being said, I want the Sens to keep him (rather then trade him for someone like Eberle) He`s still only 21 and he will get stronger and improve defensively. He just needs a good defensive defensman partner (I`m looking at you Cowen) to have his back so he can shine. I can tell you this, the Sens won`t win the cup with Karlsson on the PK.
The team playing in front of Anderson is the problem. Does he need to be better? Of course he does, but he's backstopping quite possibly the worst team in the entire league. Anderson can't score goals for us.
Anderson also wasn't in net for the first 4 goals to tonight, Auld was.
Also we have one less win than 2006-2007 at the same point. Man that year was a failure.
a) He doens`t lose confidence
b) Doesn`t develop bad habits in what will surely be a long season
c) Don`t burn a year of his entry level deal.
He has spent 2 months training and playing at the NHL level. He knows what he has to work on to take his game to the next level. Let him light up the SEL and dominate at the World Jrs.
Teams have won with purely offensive minded dmen like Karlsson. Look at Tampa with Dan Boyle and Pittsburgh with Gonchar. Karlsson has the potential to be better players than either of those two guys.
Also I can't stand Zack Smith... He's the ultimate clown. Brutal hockey player!
Bring Nikita back up too!!
Michalek-Spezza-Filatov
Foligno-Regin-Alfie
Greening-Winchester-Neil
Condra-Konopka-Butler (Bobby needs to earn his playing time)
Team Canada - Stone, Puempel, Pageau
Team USA - Noessen, Prince
Team Sweden - Zibanejad (if he gets sent back), Claesson, Sorrenson (long shot at this point)
Team Czech - Culek
offensive players gotta be lickin their chops to pad their stats when they play us.
with that said, i think sens will be up and down all year.highly compeyitive one game followed by humbling defeats. rinse and repeat...
The goalie can only do so much, if the team in front of them can't generate offense, and can't play defence.
He's being hung out to dry.
Isnt he supposed to have a way to play??? a plan?? a system??
Hehe anyhoo, internal meeting after 5 games....hehe not good!
What kind of fan are you to ridicule a Head Coach after
only 6 games ?? His system was working vs Washington ??
As usual, you thrive on the negatives and continue your nitpicking attitude ??
And also, you did not reply to my last comment "we have too many players" You said Zibanejad was the only one to be sent back .
Rockin Robert
