Back In Business

Apologies for the lack of updates the past few days.

Went down to Toronto with some friends to catch a couple Jays games and was not able to update the site while I was away.  Back in Ottawa now though and ready to get down to business, with the preseason opener set to go tomorrow night.

The Ottawa Senators kicked off training camp this weekend and have already seen a player go down to injury.  Jesse Winchester went heavily into the boards on Day 1 and will be out for the rest of training camp with a shoulder injury.

His status for the regular season is unknown.

Meanwhile, the rest of the team is getting set for the preseason opener against the Leafs tomorrow night.  The lineup will include 6th overall draft pick Mika Zibanejad along with a handful of other veterans.  The team will bring 26 players to Toronto and decide on a line up tomorrow.

  • The Sens have done a great job protecting the new heritage design but it appears we finally have our first real leak.  The website Icethetics has posted a picture of the jersey in a store in Buffalo.  Looks awesome!
  • As I mentioned on Twitter, the Sens have started with a line of Filatov-Spezza-Butler to open camp.  The second line features Michalek-Zibanejad-Alfredsson.  Should be interesting to see if those combos stick.

They must be leaving later for Toronto -- as Zib was at the season ticket holder event today.. along with a lot of other key players and bunch of this year's draft picks..

All I know is Daugavins shaved off that thick mustache... much thinner now...

Does anyone know the 26 players that will travel to Toronto? I am in Toronto atm, and may want to try to take in the game if I can / the roster is any good.

Funny moment at the STH open house today: Filatov, while seated, signing autographs, grabs a kid from his right side, picks her up and puts her down on his left side for a picture.

Kuba was sporting a soccer jersey. The lineup for Karlsson was huge!

Ottawa is a bilingual Capital City, also has many French Fans, and The Senators are to be commended for the "en francais" patch, as well as Place Banque Scotia at centre ice.

Shame on you PraiseAlfie84 !!

Ontario, and Canada for that matter, is also labelled as "bilingiual", but you don't see the leafs jerseys in half Eng/Fre....Or any other Canadian team (Montreal excluded)...

@TCharger...Yeah I was thinking I might request a jers with 2 English patches, nothing personal against French culture but I don't believe an Ontario team should rock half/half

Robin Lehner came across as a bit of a jerk today. Couldn't be bothered with 20 min. of softball questions from Gord or a smile for the fans. I guess appreciating the source of his pay cheque wasn't as important as some other self contrived soap opera in his life.

My 12 year old kid even commented on it...

Lineups were based on STH... not on getting autographs.. at least we were told only 1 picture per group and 1 auto each only in the line you pick your tickets up at... I was in line 2 and that was the longest of them all... at least at 3:15..

Winchester is the most useless player on our entire roster. I'm almost glad he's injured. Also read a little of the english/french debate. Anyone who actually thinks our country is bilingual should go visit some other Canadian cities, we're pretty much more than 90 percent english and 10 percent french. It's just all bullshit politics that we are considered a "bilingual nation".

+2 #18 TyrantRoarrrrr 2011-09-18 21:22
The bilingual debate should get some interesting information from the 2011 Canadian Census. They'll find out exactly how many people speak only French. It's roughly 15% of the population I'd estimate but it could be lower than that. The majority of which live in Quebec and have access to French services. I think most front-line services should be run as having X # of employees be English Essential and then a smaller # of bilingual or French essential. Forcing everyone to speak French when there isn't a real need is completely ridiculous and a waste of money. If only Canadians knew how much their government was spending on "French Course" for public servants and how that money could be better used on the education or healthcare system. They'd lose their shit.

WOW... I never thought this kind of thing would come up on this site.. I left Quebec because of the precisely this kind of prejudice towards the english, and I moved to Ottawa because of the fact that the two languages are able to live together with out that kind of crap. I'm happy to say that I have discovered this kind of closed minded attitude held by a very small portion of Ottawa fans, and I hop it stays that way. I am english, born and raised, but My grandmother is from Gaspe, and Im proud to speak both official languages and my kids will as well. As for hockey, I was raised in Montreal, and was a montreal fan until I moved here the year Ottawa got a team. I have been a Sens fan ever since. GO SENS GO!!!

Was hoping the new jersey was a lot closer to the concept one posted by a fan. The concept is MUCH cleaner looking and doesn't have the ugly french shoulder patches...was excited about 'em but will probably pass on buying one now.

It's funny to hear that the vast majority (~90%) are english speaking back east as well...on the west coast here you could go years without hearing anyone speak french lol.

Didn't expect this juvenile culturist crap to come up here. Canada is bilingual. Period. How closed minded and stuck up can you be to not be tolerant - or smart- enough to be willing to have a French language patch on the shoulder of your team's jersey! Oh, and your team happens to be the CAPITAL of this bilingual country!

Ge your head out of your a** and be more inclusive!

HAHA, it's like it was meant to happen. Winchester injured was irrelevant because the team was already stacked with many 1 way contracts. His was only a matter of time before being placed on waivers or scratched. The only real interest is who amoung Da Costa, Regin and Zibanejad will take 2nd line centre. I still don't want to count Regin out but there's too many young stars rising in this team that there's no time to not perform.

Regin had his chance last year, he will be given a bit of a chance this year but I expect he will either ride the pine or be waived if he does not wow us again soon, his leash will be short.

Some of the other vets better bring it as well, we have a lot more options this year.

I'm hoping Lehner plays all game to be honest. I remember last year in the pre-season he blanked the leafs 5-0 and looked amazing. Hoping to see him repeat tonight. Plus, i also hate having a new goalie between the pipes every period id rather pick one and stick with him.

Its pre-season dude, everyone gets playing time, im guessing its gonna be split between Lehner and Auld.

i know its pre season, which is why i think he should play all game. We all know Auld is a good backup, so whats the point in playing him in a pointless game? Lehner is the one with all this swag, he wants the spot light and the challenge. So why not give it to him in the battle of ontario? let him get snowed, and really get into the game. Let him get boo'd by the crowd. The kid needs to know what to expect when he does make the jump and playin 20min isn't going to help.
Quote

-1 #42 Floridasensfan 2011-09-19 08:34
I consider the laughs irrelevant in so many ways.
It is just pre season so it is just a warm up or practice game.
We don't need to prove they suck by beating them, they and everyone else already know that to be fact.
I know it is nice to remind them they suck and beat them but seeing how our young guys play in a game as far as development and prep for season is way more important.
