Since taking over for Brust in Round 1, Lehner has compiled an impressive 7-2 record. That includes three straight overtime wins to get the BSens out of the first round. He has also registered a 2.59 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.
Not bad for a 19 year old kid getting his first taste of playoff hockey at the pro level.
Heading into this season there was a ton of hype around Lehner. He had been the best goalie in training camp two years in a row and even though he's still a teenager, some Sens fans had this guy pegged as the instant savior. But like any young goalie, it was clear he was going to need some time to develop.
After an up and down year, Lehner has proven his worth in these playoffs and looks poised to assume the starter's job in Bingo heading into next season. The kid deserves a ton of credit for the way he has handled this season and the effort he has put forward in the AHL playoffs.
And even though some fans may have to wait a little longer than they'd like, it's pretty clear Robin Lehner is going to be a great goalie at the NHL level.
- Steve Lloyd of the Team 1200 has done a nice job laying out the Sens draft selections for next month's draft. With Nashville eliminated last night, the Sens will pick 6th and 21st overall in the first round. Unless they decide to move one or both of those picks.
- If you haven't done it yet, I suggest you book your spot on the Bingo Bus for May 21. We are expecting this one to fill up pretty fast after the success of the first trip. Click here for more information.
- Still got a good deal up in the Promo section for anyone looking for tickets for next season and a chance to secure access to All Star Games tickets. Click here to check it out.
- I was reading through the 2007 Sens media guide I won on the last Bingo trip and boy they sure don't make trades like they used to. Check out this gem the Sens made on June 29, 1999. Senators receive Rob Zamuner , a second round pick in either 2000,2001 or 2002, cash and the right to host three exhibition games at a location of their choice as compensation from Tampa Bay for General Manager Rick Dudley and Andreas Johansson.
Whoever we draft in that spot can't be as ineffective for the sens next year as he was this.
I think it would take the #6 pick, a prospect such as WireCock and at least one of our 2nd or 3rd round picks to move up to spot no.3. And that seems a lot.
I actually thought Nashville will have the 23rd pick. It was my understanding that teams who make the playoffs will be ranked based on points with the teams that make the same round as them. But I was wrong too.
Vancouver, Boston, Tampa and (Detroit or San Jose) will have the 30th (SC winner), 29th (SC Finalist), 28th and 27th picks, however it plays out.
Next will be any division leaders that will be Washington, Philly and Detroit or San Jose will pick 26, 25 and 24th.
Then the rest of the playoff teams are seeded by points so Pittsburgh will have 23rd and Anaheim 22nd leaving Nashville at 21st.
At least this is what I can tell from what I read online
http://healthyscratches.blogspot.com/2011/05/sens-draft-order.html
Ottawa
1rd (21st pick)
3rd
Toronto
1rd (25th)
3rd (84th)
I still hope the sens trade up for Landeskog as unlikely as it looks.
That's because Fisher is a way better player than versteeg. The leafs are lucky they got what they did for that softy
Oh man, the NHL would be more interesting with more teams trading GMs.
The guy does a radio show, he isn't an expert on draft age players. What value would this add?
thanks for that. Been searching
yes. Same issue I always have though... Comments box margins are wider than the actual box and i can't see a portion of what I write. Also becomes tough to edit.
Pretty sure I've whined about this relentlessly for a while now. I guess it's just my computer& iPhone, huh?
Yes Chirp, I was having problems for most of the day. It worked fine on my iPhone, but on any lame PC computer (once you go Mac, you never go back) I tried at work, I couldn`t get the full blog or comments.
Seems to be working fine now though!
Any update on the coaching search?
((( I answered this for you on sunday's thread 'bsens marching on'
post # 54-55.. guess you missed it.. all that work for nothing
BSens have faced Charlotte 8 times this past season. Series was split at 4 each (didn't look into whether any overtime...)
All games but one where very tight. Each team won at home and away. Only blowout favoured the Sens.
Hard to predict the coming series.
Goals: 28 -19 in favour of Sens
Is Potulny worth signing and forfeiting the 7th round pick to Chicago next year as compinsation?
put in a different perspective.. would you have traded Kovalev for Potulny straight up?
Well I would have traded Kovalev for nothing (which we pretty much did) just to save the 2 million or so for Melnyk. I would have been happier with a 7th than if they announced your proposed deal. I havent watched 1 Bingo game yet so my question remains...is he worth a 7th? Also if we sign him and he never plays for Ottawa, only Bingo does Chicago still get the pick?
IIRC we only give up the pick if he shows up on the Ottawa bench at least once. So if he spends all year in AHL we keep the pick.
amen
Ditto. He can turn out to be a primary call up guy if he's needed, à la Dustin Jeffrey for the Penguins.
BTW, Sweden plays Germany today at 2 pm.
Pierre McGuire agreed to that...
Now that is a letdown is it not? Or how can they actually say that when he has not played an NHL game yet.
He will need to learn the NA game on the smaller rink size.. which tells me he will spend time in Binghamton.
Very true. He may very well see time in Bingo next season. Maybe for the whole year. Analysts do these things all the time comparing prospects to current NHL players; I take them with a grain of salt.
Usually the player turns out to be different from what the 'experts' slated them to become.
Sami Salo's a big dude.
Yeah this makes sense..Not like Brust carried the team all year and got them in the playoffs..You Idiot...Even in the First series he was playing extremely injured..Get real
it would be nice to sign ufa's
jagr and conklin.
This may all be academic if Atl stays but someone said that the Phx/Wpg BS was all a smokescreen for Atl to relocate to the west all along.
Anyway I would like to hear some of your thoughts re Div alignment.
Later..
Will try to have an update on this later on this evening.
What is with all the Brust Lust? Seriously, this guy is a 28 year old career AHL goalie, who won't go anywhere outside of the A. Lehner is a 19 year old blue chip prospect who has a solid NHL career ahead of him.
There's really no comparison! LEHNER > burst
Only by the grace of the crossover rule did this team squeak in.
Down here we don't care if it's a raw rookie or a seasoned vet that helps/gets us wins.
Maybe Murray hires the Team Canada Coaching staff Ken Hitchcock and Pete DeBoer ..cause I don't know what they said or are doing but Spezza is a different player and I like it
My bad
I agree - that is a letdown. I will avoid a joke avoid injury-pronenes s and just say that I doubt his shot is quite as hard as Salo's. From the small bit of Rundblad I've seen, he looks like a better skater (I think he'll rush a lot) and playmaker than Salo. I'd say he doesn't look as physical as Salo (an underated part of Sami's game).
Unfair to accuse them of jumping the gun on their analysis before he's played an NHL game - that's kinda the point. They're on he radio for a reason.
Brust was amazing in the regular season.. there is no doubt. Lehner had a tough year.. too up and down between Ottawa & Bingo or sitting on the bench.. but he has had a great playoff.
Considering a lot of key Bingo players were in Ottawa from Feb - Apr it was a great job that KK did to get that team to the playoffs -- Brust helped that a lot.
If not Muller for coach... I would like them to look at KK.
Kirk Muller -- Head Coach, Dave Cameron - Asst Coach.. NO to the rest.
But i'll take Experience over Experiment anytime considering the last 3 rookie coaches lost the room in ottawa lets try Experience this time ..Murray had experience and took the group to stanley cup finals run ..Not saying that will happen next year but history has shown (Murray and Martin ) that this team needs experience behind the bench
As I understand it, interviews have not started yet.
This team will have a lot of young players next season. Different team. They need someone who can communicate with them. Have patience with the young players and not bench them when they make mistakes. Not sure Hitchcock can do that. Don't really like Crawford.. all I see when I look at him is the smirk on his face when Bertuzzi took out Moore. Doesn't really qualify whether he can coach or not.. I just don't like him.
DeBoer apparently is rumoured to be out.
Todd McLellan (SJ I assume) -- he may be okay.
I want to thumbs this up infinity times.
Not to mention, we should all be going to check out huberdeau. robert guertin arena is a wicked hockey atmosphere. 6000 packed into a building that should legitimately seat 4000. drunk-ass quebecers, soooo loud. you dont even get a seat, just a long bench with numbers written down. I love it. and if Ottawa somehow picks huberdeau without moving up... I'll do anything anybody here wants.
most interesting request takes it!
http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=365423
pretty harsh..
What is so harsh about it? Pretty accurate in my view. The Sens are loaded with third and fourth line players. There is a need for an upgrade on the top two lines and there is a good chance that there will be growing pains with a young D corps. Guys like Gonchar, Philips and perhaps even Kuba will need to be better. Anderson will be expected to carry the ball in nets. If he can't play the way he did at the end of the season, the Sens are in trouble.
I hope the Sens prove me wrong but it could be another long year.
Rundblad > Salo?
Gimme a break, NOT EVEN CLOSE!
Rundblad > Lidstrom
Is a lot more closer than comparing him to Salo
I seen Salo come up, and the one thing I remember other than his shot is, him being hurt. Other than his slapper he was nothing SPECIAL! Getting Shaef was a steal. The big booming shot, take that away and there are 20+ Sami Salos in the NHL. I mean Rundblad smoked Salo's career total in production in just one season in Pro overseas.
David Rundblad on the other hand is showing, in time... He'll be able to do it ALL! and it may be sooner than people think. There is absolutely no justifying comparing him to Sami Salo. Biggest crock of shit I heard all year.
Lol...... Yawn....
In BM we trust
I don't want to do the numbers but I'm sure if you take our record with Andy in net and average it out over a full year, I'm pretty sure were're playing in the playoffs.
Got Spezz looking better than ever, adding an FA or 2, potential top.... 5 draft pick (averaging) in the line-up, a trade or 2 (9MM, Kuba) Cowen, Annnnnnnnddddd David Rundblad. Oh and can't forget Alfie
All that to go with what we already got...
oh, ANNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNDDDDDDDDDDD a new coach. I'm not worried. We'll compete. And make the playoffs.
You're joking, right?
Is a lot more closer than comparing him to Salo
And you know this from all your first hand experience watching him play?
More accurately more like a PK Subhan or a Brent Burns rather then Salo.
Rundblad can skate really well.
His shot -- he keeps low -- hopefully meaning lots of tip-ins.
Haven't seen his physical side.
On another note, Silfverberg looks pretty good as well. Not afraid to go to the net. Let's hope he signs an ELC and gets his ass over here.
Don't ever read into Senators articles on TSN too much. After all it is the TORONTO SPORTS NETWORK....
ok fair enough on Lidstrom, but on the same note on comparisons, to compare Rundblad to Salo is equally in accurate. I am saying that it is so far off that I would equate Rundlad's style more to Lidstrom then to Salo. It is like saying that Karlsson is like a Phaneuf, they are nowhere close in comparisons, and I really cannot understand the Salo to Rundblad comparisons
Any news on anything Sens?
Rundblad and Silfverberg havent shown much in the WC, whch is dissapointing, Silfverberg a bit less but Rundblad should be doing more!
What exactly are people expecting. Despite the hype the kid is still young and will only be a rookie next year. Still a long way to go before anyone should be feeling disappointment in his performances.
To add to that he's only played TWO games in the tournament so far and doesn't log a ton of IT. Too much excitement over this kid. Give him the chance to play for goodness sake
Im not comparing him to anyone, I wont be dissapointed if he bombs the first years of his career ni the NHL but in tournaments like this, I expected him to show more.
