Game 4 in Bingo- Head Coach Update

It's hard to imagine the crowd will reach the level it did on Saturday night but the the game on the ice is just as important as the Binghamton Senators host Portland in game four of their best of seven series.

Binghamton holds a 2-1 edge.

Binghamton is not expected to make any changes from the line up that lost on Saturday night. That means Robin Lehner makes his seventh straight playoff start. Brust is healthy but will dress as back up to Lehner tonight.

No solid leads on the Sens search for a new head coach. What I do know is that Lindy Ruff and Kirk Muller were both believed to be strong candidates for the job with the Senators. Ruff has signed an extension in Buffalo and Muller is rumoured to be on his way to Dallas.

That takes a couple guys off the Sens list right off the bat.

Brad Shaw, a former defenceman with the Sens and assistant in St. Louis since 2006 is also a name believed to be in the mix. Andy Strickland indicated that the Blues will offer him a one year extension to stay on as an assistant next year.

It's still fairly early in the search but I would expect things to pick up this week. As always, I will post any updates as I get them.

I know I took some heat for music commentary last week so I can only imagine what some political talk will do. But I'm gonna do it anyway...

Today is Election day in Canada and strongly encourage you all to get out and vote. We are lucky to live in a country where democracy is one of our rights as Canadian citizens and it's important that we all do our civic duty and cast a ballot today.

Any news on Cowen's performance ? His team is down 3-2 in the series but it would be nice to get some updates.

What about Wacey Hamilton? His team was eliminated in 4, but how have people rated his performance?

Haven't been able to catch any of those games. A quick glance at Cowen's stat line seems to indicate he has had a terrific playoff. Among the leaders in team scoring.

Anyone actually watched any of the Spokane games?

Now that Bryan Murray has signed an extension of 3 years as the General Manager, maybe if he has some doubts as to which candidate to offer a Head Coach contract, he could easily in a rebuilding year, go behind the bench next season, and tutor an Assistant Coach during that season,
and promote this Assistant Coach, to the Head Coach job in 2012-2013 .

Now, if Daniel Alfredsson was to not return as an active player, he might be interested in a coaching opportunity.

Anyone have any thoughts on the above??

Really interesting that Muller is chosing Dallas with their ownership uncertanties. Plus Ottawa offers a good Canadian city with a strong ground a young coachable players, if I was a candidate i'd be all over that. I could see Alfy being a great assistant coach in 1-2 years if he can't play. See's the game really well, respected widely accross the NHL. He will behind the Sens bench at some point.

And good on ya chirp for the elections. Im sitting here writting from the Eletions Canada building on Coventry, Get voting people!

Thanks for the info.

All I've seen are the highlights available on the WHL website. He looked a step slow in some the goals against which made me wonder how he was doing.

Any who can devote the time and effort to follow/post in this forum has no excuse for not voting. GET OUT and VOTE, preferably, not the that one I don't like, but let's keep him nameless...

I'm hoping Murray is tryin hard to pry Muller's attention away from Dallas. He more or less the ont ptential (coaching!) candidate I'm thouroughly excited for.

If Alfie stays in the world of hockey at all after retirement, I fully expect that it would be with the Senators. I expect he's got more gas in the tank than most think. I guess it's just as plausible that Alfie will never get back to 100%, certainly not for the better part of a season.

Looks like Muller to Dallas is not done and possibly "imagined" by the Montreal reporter Pat Hickey:

http://www.defendingbigd.com/2011/4/29/2142283/kirk-muller-linked-to-dallas-stars-coach-nieuwendyk-says-stars-will

Who knows though...

Already made my vote.

I too am hoping that Murray can get Muller to Ottawa. Close to his home. Young team that he can build his way.

Get a full relatively young and energitic coaching staff that can COMMUNICATE with all the players.

Off topic... but to bin Laden -- BURN IN HELL.

What would you guys think of Ken Hitchcock as our future coach? He's recently made some postiive comments about Spezza's game.

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! What I can`t stand is people who don`t vote and then think they have a right to complain about the government or their ridings incumbent MP.

Not surprised Hitchcock would say that. Two reasons: it is true so why not; and he's begging for a new job so why not endear himself to the fans to create a buzz.

My take ... he wouldn't be a good fit here in Ottawa and I would prefer to see someone with NHL playing experience brought in ... but what do I know?

I have watched a few. Cowen has been great from what I have seen. He plays all situations out there and has kept his game pretty simple, which has been effective. He has made a couple errors here and there but he has worked hard and definitely made up for them.

PS that "don't encourage them comment" was the most, reductionist, lazy, uninformed tripe I've seen on this site. I won't go into it since someone else already brought him down a notch.

Watched a bit of the game. Daugavains scored a hilight reel goal. Impressed with Kinrade back on the blue line. Potulny is being used on all occasions. Not sure if these guys have a chance to play with the big team but good to see the young guys going deep into the playoffs. This type of experience should be a big help down the road

Spokane was eliminated last night. I wonder if Cowen will be called up to the AHL given their current d-men shortage. Even to have him come up and practice with the team would be beneficial at this point.

I must admit that I am not sure if he is eligible to play in the AHL.

^^^ I was wondering the same thing. I know it was mentioned on team1200 this morning that they think he will come play with bingo due to all the injuries on the backend

I am still not sure if that means he is allowed to or not though.
