  • Thank You

Without overstating it, this really was the best season I have had as a fan of the Ottawa Senators.

And while many fans will quickly default to the Stanley Cup run, there was just something about this team that made this lockout shortened season extra special. Cheering for and blogging about the underdog Ottawa Senators team was the most thrilling, unexpected, delightful experience I've had as a sports fan.

Seventh Game Showdown

Down 3-1 in their first round series against the Manchester Monarchs, it looked like the Binghamton Senators were about to face a disappointing first round exit.  But with Robin Lehner between the pipes, the BSens have won two straight games and now face a seventh and deciding game later tonight.

The game can be heard live on the Team 1200.

It may not be the NHL playoffs but you have to admire the fight this Binghamton team is showing. Last night they scored a dramatic double overtime win with Lehner stopping 51 of the 52 shots he faced. It was the second straight overtime win for Bingo.

Defenceman Geoff Kinrade scored the OT winner.

Corey Locke, the team's leading scorer, will not be in the line up for the deciding game.  Sounds like he could return in the second round if the BSens can find a way to pull out a win tonight.

GO BSENS GO!

Oh and I know I haven't really offered up much on the NHL playoffs but that goal Bobby Ryan scored last night has to go down as one of the best in playoff history. You can check it out on the highlights tab on the home page.

Poor, poor David Legwand.

Happy Easter weekend, everyone!

Chirp,

Any idea whats up with all the bingo d-men? I new Gryba was hurt before the playoffs...but whats happened to the rest of them?

5 D for 5 periods last night (1 of whom, Boroweiki didn't play much) doesn't bode well for tonight...

Yea they have been hit by injuries hard. Not sure about David Hale though. Really thought he would be back with the team by now.

Fatigue will almost certainly be a factor tonight.

Where is Derek Smith also. They say Hale was hurt in his last game with Ottawa.

Glad to see this blog is working again... I could not get into the last one.

The pressure is now with Manchester. Let's hope these young guys keep their legs going.

Lehner should be the 'more rested' goalie as he has only played 2 games in this series. What would have been if he had of played more.

Hoping for a win and a road trip.

Ya that Ryan goal was awesome. The Nashville vs Anaheim series is the best out of the 1st round by far. Anyone who is not watching it is missing out for sure. I am still torn between who to cheer for. On one hand, if Nashville loses we get a better draft pick and on the other hand, I hate the Ducks since they beat us in '07.

Regardless, I will cheer for the series to go 7 so that I can be entertained longer.

The guy got deked out of his stick. His moves were deking both Legwand and Rinne at the same time. It was a thing of beauty. Also he knocked down the initial pass to start the rush. You have to appreciate the effort and skill level shown by Ryan.

@riceroni. If Nashville wins the series we get their 3rd round pick next year (Fisher trade). Great series.
SC - go BSens. Any news on coaching candidates? And let's not forget the Spokane Chiefs and Jared Cowen. He's having a great series and now they're moving on.

Huberdeau kept off the scoresheet for the first time in the playoffs.. a few more games like that and Ottawa might be able to steal him at number 6.... still think he'll go 2nd or 3rd overall though..

So Huberdeau's first game against a decent team and he comes up empty. They're not even particularly good compared to Huberdeau's team - 1st overall vs 8th overall - 58-7 vs 40-24. Looks like we're going to have to wait to the Q finals to see Huberdeau lace them up against a team his squad isn't massively better than. People may be making too much of his production considering the competition has been soft as butter.

But if Nashville wins, we gain a 3rd rounder. better first, or a whole new draft pick, now thats even more of a dilemma

I see what you're saying, and you DID predict that production would go down Vs. tougher opponents. Not exactly Prophetic, but a valid point.

My only counter is that its hard for ANY player to put up points 10 games in a row... especially in the playoffs, no matter who the opponent is.

Let's wait and see. maybe he gets 4 points in the next game and his P/G remains intact.

True... but he has been under pressure the last 2 games as the B-Sens faced elimination both those nights.
I think the pressure to win now is on the other side.
B-Sens are playing short-handed without 3 regular D and their best forward.
Let's hope Lehner can bring his "A" game tonight again.
I'm sure the team is tired.. some of those 'rookies' have not played this much hockey in a year... let's hope they keep those young legs going.

Also Potulny has 3 assists in the game.

Good pickup by Murray in the Campoli trade. Now if he can translate that to the NHL.

It took him some time to get use to his teammates and the system.. but as we can see -- it is certainly paying off.
