  • Thank You

    Without overstating it, this really was the best season I have had as a fan of the Ottawa Senators.

    And while many fans will quickly default to the Stanley Cup run,there was just something about this team that made this lockout shortened season extra special. Cheering for and blogging about the underdog Ottawa Senators team was the most thrilling, unexpected, delightful experience I've had as a sports fan.

Binghamton Playoff Bound

With tonight's OT winner by Jim O'Brien, the Binghamton Senators have clinched a spot in the Calder Cup playoffs. The team should get significant reinforcements when the NHL season ends and could be a dangerous team come playoff time.

Binghamton has missed the playoffs the last five seasons. Congratulations go out to the team, Coach Kurt Kleinendorst and his staff and the dedicated hockey fans down in Binghamton.

Considering the depleted lineup they had with the callups to Ottawa -- it's great they made it.

But they appear to have some injuries... namely Corey Locke. Don't know the status of some of these... but let's hope they can get him back.

Add Butler, Greening, Condra, Z Smith -- they could go long way.

Let's hope they get the cross-over.. if they move to 4th in their division they play Wilkes-Barrie -- the AHL league leader.

@Sandy
Wilkes-Barre is the league leader but Bingo's been a bit of a challenge for them - I think they've won the season series against Wilkes-Barre, or at the very least split it, so I'm pretty confident that we can go far. A full lineup devoid of injury could look something like this:

Greening-Locke-Butler
Condra-O'Brien-Keller
Daugavins-Z.Smith-Wick
Dziurzynski-Bass-Potulny
(Hoffman, Grant, Cowick)

Hale-Benoit
D.Smith-Wiercioch
Schira-Kinrade
(Gryba, Borowiecki)

Brust-Lehner

That's ridiculous depth - consider that Potulny has 21G and is on the 4th line, and they have maybe 10 forwards who can play top six at the AHL level. Schira is out with injury so we may see Gryba and Wiercioch on the final pairing, which should be a much more reliable pairing now with more pro experience. Lines are based off of early season lines.

Further proof that Bryan Murray should be retained as our GM

With the likes of Butler, Greening, Condra, etc. With games in NHL this team can go deep.

@JYT

I thought Gryba was done for the season with a high-ankle sprain.

Schira is also injured -- can't remember what the injury was.

Corey Locke has a shoulder injury.

Are any of these guys going to be back in time for the first round of the playoffs? That's the question.

Everyone has injuries. Bingo should be covered with all the reinforcements. Unless Schira has had a setback, he is supposed to be close as he was considered "a possible" for the past weekend. Someone may have more updated information. Team should have at least a week before the first playoff game.

The AHL games should look like slow motion to the guys who have been with us for the last 20+ games. Should definately benefit Bingo...

Good for Bingo and the fans. The experience these guys will get if they go deep in the playoffs will be a great experience for them.

Starting to look that way unfortunately. Negotiations have been shockingly complicated.

That is very disappointing about Travis, really enjoy his blogs and talking to him on facebook. I was really hoping to never go on hockeybuzz again but oh well. Any streams for the bingo playoffs yet? I'm from New Brunswick so I can't really watch Bingo games so if you do know of streams it would be greatly appreciated! :)

Still working on it. Hoping he has a change of heart but have some ideas ready to go if he doesn't.

Have you considered making an overture to this Eklund guy? I hear he is very credible with deep contacts.

According to Joy Lindsay (BSens blogger extraordinaire) , Gryba is still not in any condition to play, but Schira is skating and practicing. Schira should be good to go by the time the playoffs roll around. Locke will be rested until playoff time, they list him as day to day.
