  • Game Day- Pittsburgh @ Ottawa Game 4

Every game the Sens play from here on out could appropriately be labelled the biggest game of their season.

The Ottawa Senators look to build off an electrifying win on Sunday night as they play Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. After a two day break, the Senators will be looking to use a raucous crowd at Scotiabank Place to draw even before heading back to Pittsburgh for Game 5 on Friday night.

The Final Week

Just three games to go. That's it.

It has been a long and painful season for Sens fans but by this time next week, it will be all wrapped up. The Senators have just three games to go. Home dates against the Flyers and Canadiens and then a stop in Boston to close out the year.

Heading into the final week of the NHL's regular season, the Sens sit in 27th place, two points behind the Islanders but tied with the Panthers in points. Still a lot to be decided at the bottom of the NHL's standings.

NY Islanders 79 30 37 12 72

Ottawa 79 30 39 10 70

Florida 79 29 38 12 70

Colorado 78 29 41 8 66

Edmonton 78 24 43 11 59

The Sens have a pretty tough schedule to close out the season but the teams around them have been so awful it's difficult to imagine them falling any lower than 27th. Here's hoping the Panthers get hot down the stretch.

Wiercioch and Benoit, who both played on Saturday night, were sent back to Binghamton over the weekend. The Sens are expected to recall at least two more players before their game on Tuesday night against the Flyers. Should hear more on that at some point this morning.

(UPDATE 4:06 PM) Thanks to everyone that entered today's contest. The winner will be notified via email later on this evening.

Thanks again to the good folks at Wiser's for providing the prizes over the past week. Be sure to stop by their Facebook page to join the Wiserhood. Click here to check it out!

And I know a few of you have asked about Travis Yost and all I can say for now is that we are in a bit of a holding period. I'll leave it to Yost to explain when he gets here, which should be at some point early this week.

Well it hasn't been a fun season but their are some positives. Da Costa signed, have some great young players in Condra, Greening, and Butler, then there's Rundblad. Also we have a #1 goalie!!!!
So I am thinking of the positives for this season and things look bright for the young Sens.

I have the blues guys... it's April and we won't be seeing any Sens playoff hockey :( it's finally hit me I guess.

So now that the playoffs are just around the corner, who is everyone cheering for? I'm hoping for Calgary to squeak in to the playoff's but it doesn't look likely. Out west I'm rooting for Vancouver/Chica go, and in the east I'm just not sure. Maybe Tampa Bay just out of love and respect for Stevie Y.

Who are you guys cheering for and why?

im not worried about our draft position for these last 3 games. Going against strong teams now without Karlsson for the PP and in general. Add Kuba into the mix and there is nothing to worry about.

Looking forward to next season

In all honesty, as much as I love the Sens and would like to see them win, in this particular circumstance, I really wouldn't mind losing these last three games.

Think about it. These last three games can literally be the difference in choosing third, or fifth overall come Summer in the 2011 NHL Draft.

As for playoff choices, I think we can all collectively root for Nashville this year, just so that we can pick up that extra Second Rounder promised if they win their first series. Speaking of that, the Nashville Predators have NEVER won a playoff series in franchise history :S

Oh well, Go Preds Go! Go Mike!

This team without Karlsson would need about another 3 years. Amazing what that kid does for us offensively.

What is it about Spezza and Michalek not being able to 'click'. I know Michalek is technically our best LW, so he should be on the top line with Spezza, but I hope that's not the case next season, would rather see Greening there or even Foligno.

Chirp,

I think I saw you at the Jays game on Sat. Were you wearing an Alfy jersey? I yelled go Sens go from far and got MANY dirty looks from all the Maple Waffle Fans that were there.

Good weekend for the Jays at least....my buddies and I were getting ripped all night...worth it, we were cheering hard for the Sens right till the end!

This is my first post after sitting in the stands for a year. Great job all around Chirp.

I just noticed that if things stay the way they are in the West, Nashville plays San Jose. It will be easy to pick a horse in that race! Not only can we pick up that conditional 2nd rounder for Nashville moving on in the playoffs, but Ottawa's favourite ex-senator can put the boots to Public Enemy #1, The Douche.

Sweet!

Just our luck. Let's hope they can pick up some points. I'll be following them SUPER closely.

This is gonna be a long week! Go Panthers!

Definitely agree with you about Michalek, but I really don't like Foligno in that role either. Out of all three of those players, Greening definitely looked the best in his short stint on Spezza's wing, but it doesn't mean they'll have any success next season, or that Greening will even make the team.

It will be interesting to see how everything plays out. Who lines up with Spezza on the RW? Butler? Alfie?

Can't forget that Murray said he's going to pursue one winger to fill one of those holes in the summer.

I dont know what people see in Condra, Greening, Butler, they are not top 6 talent, we dont have any top 6 talent on standby. This was the year we drafted one, in RNH or Landeskog but I think will have to settle for Strome, which I guess aint all that bad, he just wont be playing this year, as Landeskog would. RNH wouldnt be rdy either but the more I see him play I would take the chance to draft this kid!!

We don't know yet at this point, Tookie, how Greening, Butler & Condra will play out in the way they fit into the lineup. All I know is I enjoy watching them play. Condra & Greening seem to be good two-way forwards but neither are elite. We don't also know how Butler will fare out. You can see he is out of gas. Not use to playing this many hockey games at such a great pace. I'm certainly hoping all 3 make the lineup next season.
I have enjoyed watching this team since the trade deadline. They are playing with a lot of passion & energy & Spezza has been amazing.

All I know is.. we HAVE TO take back our arena from those bloody Leaf fans. I can't believe the downright drunken arrogance these so-called people have for the Sens fans and even the ushers were given a hard time by them. NO more Saturday night games with the Leafs. Keep those fans in Toronto.

Finally, the last week of an absolutely brutal season. Thank the lord!

Next year looks brighter than this year but I don't think we will have enough to make the playoffs. Only if Anderson can work some magic but even then, we have a lot of youth that will need some time to adjust and gain experience.

I'm rooting for Boston in the east, I think this is their year. Philly gets injured too often and doesn't have a #1 goalie and the Caps will choke yet again.

Ultimately I'd like to see the Flames make it since I grew up in Calgary but it's looking like their time is up as well...

Oh well, at least those damn Leafs didn't make it!!!!

Of all the teams in the playoffs, the best balanced depth teams in goal, defense & forwards are Boston & Vancouver. So you would think they would be a lock for the finals.

But we also know that usually does not happen. There will be upsets.

Just so Mtl & San Jose are NOT part of the finals... I'm okay with whoever else is..

Hey Chirp,

Can you clear this up for me? I heard the guys over on the Team 1200 say this too. We don't get a 2nd rounder if the Preds win a single playoff series, right? We get a 2nd if they make the conference finals, and we get a 3rd if they get out of the 1st round only.

Agreed with that. Going into the Leafs game I think they had killed off 76 of 79 PK's. That is amazing considering half of the penalty killers are rookies, Shannon, Spezza or Winchester. I know the Leafs did not score on the PP -- especially on the 5 min. one. So it's an even better stat.

When the Sens are out, that it for me. Having 'back up' teams to cheer for is fun for some, but defeat the purpose of having a favourite for me.

Never understood the need to cheer on a team when your fav is out... especially cheering for Canadian teams just because they're Canadian (even though the roster could be full of Swedes of Russians etc).

Also, it's because I know fans of all of the Canadian teams (not so much CGY), so if any of MTL, TO (god forbid), Van or EDM won the cup, I'd never hear the end of it. I want Ottawa to be the next Canadian team to win a cup.

I guess I'll cheer for Nashville to get past the first round so we get that conditional pick...
