Waiting on Da Costa- Wiser's Week Day 3

All the talk today has been all about NCAA free agent forward Stephane Da Costa. The Sens are still in the running into this evening but there is no time frame on his decision. Will post an update as soon as it becomes available.

In the meantime, let's give away another pair of tickets in the Wiser's Suite! (Note: Deadline extended to 10:00 PM tonight.)

Welcome to Day 3 of Wiser's Week here on SensChirp. The first contest rewarded speed. Yesterday the winner was a master of prognostication. This time we reward creativity.

Time for a photoshop/photo contest. Looking for submissions that incorporate both SensChirp and Wiser's/The Wiserhood. These can be photoshopped images or actual pictures. Either one works.

No real rules on submissions but I encourage you to be as creative as possible. I'm making this one up as I go along but I will do my best to answer any questions you may have in the comment section.

Send your photo or photoshopped image to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . I'll review all submissions and select a winner. You must be legal drinking age to enter. The cut off for submissions is 10:00 PM on March 31 with the winner notified by email on Friday.

Again, a thanks to our sponsors at Wiser's. Be sure to take the time to stop by their Facebook page for access to some additional contest and promotions. Click here to join The Wiserhood!

Good luck!

Runblad looks amazing. The only negative I notice is that he leaves his feet on all of his big hits. That will not fly in the NHL.

Had that video in this post by mistake! Moved it over to the video section though. Pretty sure I have watched it 10-15 times since it first came out.

Aaah I was so close to nailing it last night! I got the 5-2 right but changed my game winner to Stamkos instead of St. Louis in a last second decision that clearly backfired

Aren't those what the NHL are now giving 5 minutes and a game for?

Just watched the Runblad video for the first time. This kid is going to get us up out of our seats on a regular basis. Wow!

Solid video on Rundblad. This guy is awesome.

Regarding those hits, the NHL doesn't tend to penalize a guy for leaving his feet after contact, it's before contact that they are 'technically' concerned with.

That said, the NHL now penalizes hard body checks, so he certainly would have got penalties for a couple of those.

Still, he can skate, he can shoot, he can hit, he can pass. And he's my pick for Calder next year without even knowing what the rest of the field is going to look like. I don't think there's going to be a rookie in the league next year who is capable of the things this guy seems to be capable of. So I'm calling my shot now, and as soon as he makes the team I'm buying my jersey.

And it's startling how much that first hit in the video looked like the holocaust that Andy Sutton inflicted on Jordan Leopold last year. Awesome.

I know its not the NHL, and its a highlight reel, but nice to see someone score on penalty shots.

Agree with we will need to watch head shots, but he looks good. The competition might be good for Karlsson.

I like to think so. :)

Expert or no expert though, it's not hard to get excited about this player.

When can he get in a Sens uniform? How is his team doing in the SEL playoffs... do we have to wait until next season?

He is definitely someone to get really excited about.

Will take some adjustment to the size of the ice surface.. but that's about it. Wow.

im pretty sure that every one of the hits was to the head or an elbow. atleast it looked like it from the 70000 feet the game was shot at. He looks really good though

Rumour has it.. Ottawa has made an offer to Da Costa.. but Minnesota is the favorite?

Really why?

http://twitter.com/MikeMcMahonET - Some Da Costa numbers: in 11GP in World Championships (against NHL talent) has a 1g-4a-5pts line as an 18 and 19 year old.
http://twitter.com/MikeMcMahonET - In WJC Div 1 has a 12g-20a-32pts line in 15 GP. In NCAA 30g-60a-90pts in 67 GP

@Sandy , Rundblad's team Skellefteå AIK is currently in the semi-finals. they are up 3-2 (7 game series) the can advance to the finals with a win tomorrow over Luleå HF. Apparently Rundblad is still doing same old same old (dominance), however, he is playing a more of a defensive play during the playoffs, which would explain the slight drop in his stats in post season compared to regular season

I can't photoshop for shit.

Although I like the Runds better than Cowen already, I am not expecting anywhere near the point production if he cracks the roster. Big ice and very little man on man pressure allows a creative guy to add his name to the scoresheet. NHL is a very different story. Excited, but not dry humping his poster excited.

Da Costa is also someone that doesn't get me hot. Do we really expect this guy to crack the top 6? If that is not the expectation then who the F cares? We have enough bottom 6 forwards to ice a womens hockey team at St Mary's!!

Doesn't have to be a photoshopped image remember. An actual photo will be accepted as well.

0 #34 The Apostle 2011-03-31 10:02
It's natural to wonder what sort of player he will be but one of the good things about where the Sens are now and where they project to be in the next couple of years takes the pressure off this signing.

If he turns out to be great then that's obviously great for us. If he turns out to be garbage, what do the sens really lose? It's not like we will have had to sacrifice somebody of real use to the squad to plug him into the line-up, he won't be costing us much money and he won't be on anything much more than a 2 year deal. If it doesn't pan out we can let him go in 2 years with no real harm done.

It's almost like there's no downside to picking him up.

That certainly wont prevent it from happening but I think there are definitely still some questions that need to be answered on that front. Heard the same thing when they were trying to get Anderson done.

I assume Murray is back but there is obviously still some decisions that have to be made.

Yeah, to be honest, however, most of the teams pursuing hom the hardest are out of the playoffs too, so, by deafult, their Management can't be viewed as rock solid either.

Failure breeds change, right?

At any rate, I hope we hear soon...

Great news on Da Costa! Another win for BM, they seem to be piling up lately!

On another note, this is the type of headline that let's you know there's potential for a clear #1 prospect coming in a future draft. Obviously no guarantees, but this is similar to the pre-hype of a Tavares, Stamkos or Crosby.

"Ekblad is first 15 year old since John Tavares to be granted exceptional status. Now eligible for OHL draft in May."
Quote

0 #55 Tookie 2011-03-31 12:22
Dont forget our own #19, he was also granted exceptional status when he first joined the OHL.
