  • Game Day- Pittsburgh @ Ottawa Game 4

Every game the Sens play from here on out could appropriately be labelled the biggest game of their season.

The Ottawa Senators look to build off an electrifying win on Sunday night as they play Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. After a two day break, the Senators will be looking to use a raucous crowd at Scotiabank Place to draw even before heading back to Pittsburgh for Game 5 on Friday night.

Anderson Starts at MSG

Fresh off signing a four year/$12.75 million extension with the team, Craig Anderson will make the start in goal tonight at Madison Square Garden. The combination of McElhinney playing well and a minor injury kept Anderson out of the last few games but he returns to the net tonight.

Puck drops at 7:08 PM.

The New York Rangers are red hot coming into their match up with the Sens having won five straight and solidifying their playoff position in the process.  The Blueshirts currently sit 7th in the Eastern Conference but have a six point cushion over the 9th place Hurricanes.

With that said, this is obviously an important game for the Rangers tonight.

No line up changes are expected for the Sens heading into tonight other than the goalie switch. That means Patrick Wiercioch will play is second straight game in the NHL. He struggled at times on Tuesday night but will be hoping for a better performance tonight. A stronger effort from his defence partner Filip Kuba would certainly help.

The forward combinations remain unchanged for Ottawa.

Michalek won't play tonight but they do hope he can rejoin the line up tomorrow against the Caps. The team also mentioned that Alfredsson could accompany the team on an upcoming road trip and resume skating. Still no timeline on his return.

For fans watching the bottom of the standings, and I think we all are by this point, there are a handful of games that could impact the positioning at the bottom of the pack. Here are some games to keep an eye on tonight.

ATL@NYI, EDM@STL, ANA@NSH, TOR@COL

For you third jersey nuts, a good find from the blog Icethetics. This is an image from the slide show that was shown at the hot stove event I talked about. It shows a teaser of the heritage jersey the Sens will wear next season.

Hard to tell anything concrete from the image but that looks an awful lot like the O on the front. This matches with what I have been told to expect from the new design.

I'd say the odds of getting a stronger effort from Kuba are about the same as the odds that Matt Cooke will come back from his suspension and NOT try to decapitate people with his elbows.

I really have never got the fascination with the "O" on the new jersey... To me it looks pretty dumb, but I've heard so many people say it's awesome and that it will look so good...

I don't know I just don't see it..

Yep, it was done over the weekend. Got a pretty cool contest coming up next week though. Keep an eye out for it.

I dont get it

Filip Kuba and Karlsson JUSTTT started playing well together. they were developping some chemistry and both their defensive games were improving.

Cue patrick wiercioch.

Why the hell would clouston pair the new guy with kuba??? why not with phillips?? he's supposed to be our big 'mentor', right?

this coach is stupid, I like SOME of his systems, but he has no idea how to make lines or manage goalies. I was borderline ready to give him another chance with the improved play... but not anymore

SHHHH...TANK ARMY LIKES THIS MOVE! Don't mess with a losing formula.

In the end I actually think the defensive pairings(more specifically Kuba-Wiercoch) lost us the Carolina game. Phillips and Lee continue to impress as a unit and Hale is a nice reliable option to play with Karlssson.

The "A" in the crest is the tail end of "OTTAWA" which should be followed by "World Champs 1922-23". It's the original crest/logo of the Ottawa Senators. This jersey is all about a nod to the past - hence the "=O=" and the shoulder crest.

I've seen a little more of the jersey. People who appreciate the history of the team within this city will love this jersey. Teeny-boppers who are still naive enough to think the "O" will get us made fun of will still whine.

Guys, Alfie still has value, he's obviously been playing hurt for a very long time. He's def not a first liner anymore and I think the stress of him trying to carry the team coupled with injury has really led to the poor play. I think if he was a solid 2nd/3rd line role player he could contribute more. Hopefully he heals enough to return to his usual self next season but just like every single other player in the twilight on their NHL careers, point production and smart hockey goes down....

You have no respect, Alfie played great last year and the other before nothing 20 goals and more, He played hurt to help this team because he loves it, and you're saying he played bad .. whatever

Meh, that has nothing to do with it for me.. Just don't get the fascination with it.. I understand it's about the past but I just don't really like it.. I ain't a teeny-bopper and could really care less what fans of other teams think...

Alfie is still a great hockey player. I expect a good 2011-2012 season from him on the 2nd line. Maybe around 0.75 points/game if he stays healthy. I'm trying to be a bit optimistic about our beloved captain. Anything above 50 points, I'll be thrilled.

I honestly don't see the point of Alfie comming back this year! Let him travel with the team if he wants, for support, but bringing him back for the last 5 games is absolutely meaningless and stupid!!!! The only way I see this making sense is if they are planning on returning some of the better Bingo players (aka Butler and Greening) back for their playoff run... But I just don't see that happening given how well they are playing up here.

Colin Greening compares to: RJ Umberger, Teddy Purcell, Patrick Berglund, Mike Knuble, Bryan Bickell, Ryan Malone

Bobby Butler compares to: Brad Boyes, Drew Stafford, Jason Pominville, Blake Comeau

Eric Condra compares to: Ryan Callahan, Danny Cleary, Frans Nielsen, Derek Stepan

Not going to bother with Wiercioch or Cowen because I haven't seen them play in the NHL enough yet.

P.S. I hate comparisons.
