Roger's House Telethon Tonight

Tonight is a special night at SBP as the club hosts their annual Roger's House Telethon beginning at 6:30 PM on Rogers Sportsnet.

This is an extremely worthwhile cause and one that I strongly encourage you all to help out with in any way that you can.

Roger's House is an eight bed palliative care unit that was created through a partnership between the Ottawa Senators Foundation, CHEO and the Ontario Ministries of Health and Children and Youth Services Since opening in 2006, Roger's House has had more than 1200 admissions and provided more than 8000 days of care.

You can text "SENS" to 45678 for a $5 donation or "SENATORS" to 45678 to make a $10 donation.

Donations will also be accepted online at sensfoundation.com. For more information about Roger's House, click here.

Meanwhile, on the ice, the Sens return home after a lengthy road trip and find a familiar face waiting for them at Scotiabank Place. Alex Kovalev, armed with one point in his last eight games, returns to Ottawa tonight for the first time since a deal that shipped him to Pittsburgh last month.

It's hard to say what type of reception Kovalev should expect tonight. While I think it's safe to assume it will be generally unfavourable, I think most fans will be fairly indifferent to his return.

While Kovalev had mostly good things to say after being dealt for a conditional 7th round pick, he was a player that always left fans wanting more. He scored 32 goals in his two and a half seasons with the Sens but was the same enigma he has been for most of his career.

Couple line up changes for the Sens. Derek Smith and Ryan Potulny were demoted yesterday and this morning the club recalled Andre Benoit and Jim O'Brien to to fill the void.

Here is how the forwards are expected to line up (Updated lines from Scott MacArthur of the Team1200.

  • Greening-Spezza-Butler
  • Foligno-Shannon-Condra
  • Smith-Winchester-Neil
  • Svatos-O'Brien-Lessard

Craig Anderson gets the start in goal.

good move sending potulny down. I know they wanted to get a look at him, but it was pretty obvious from his numbers and his skating that this guy is not in NHL condition anymore.

He put up good numbers with his short stint in EDM. If we can get him skating like the rest of our call-ups (butler, condra, greening) then he might have a shot at being a decent 3rd line centre

Cheering for a win, expecting a loss, its a good time to be a sens fan.. you cant lose!

I don't disagree with the lines. gives us two checking lines 2 &4 and two scoring lines 1&3

Can anyone clarify these call up rules. If the call up is for an injured player, does the exemption really extend to sending the original call up down and promoting someone else during the same injury or did these two use 2 of his 4 for the rest of the season?

As I understand it these call ups count as emergency call ups because of the team's current injury situation.

They should be giving away free floaties for the kids tonight in honor of Kovalev's return.

Subject - Return of Kovalev

I say we match his efforts with our reaction to him returning to SBP. Fans in attendance produce the most creative boo sequence. This happens only once during the game, whenever the fans kind of feel like it. The rest of the games the fans can look to the sky and think about flying.

Kovalev is not gonna be signed by the Pens, unless he leads the scoring for the Penguins in the upcoming playoffs.

Maybe he is simply pacing himself, saving his energy and body for the playoffs .

If he flops in the playoffs, he will be looking for another team to sign him, which may not materialise .

Kovalev has KHL written all over him. Funny to think back to how excited Penguins fans were when they made that deal.

Wow brutal lineup. Oh well i expect another usual good effort from most of the guys. Would prefer O'brien and Benoit any day over Potulny and Smith anyways.zxmp6

Anybody know how we are getting away with so many callups? Are they all "emergency" callups? Do they have something to do with us having so many injured players?

Initial plan was to have him here for the launch but there have been some "delays". Can't really get into the details but I will say as soon as possible!

What I wonder is why Lessard wasn't sent down instead of potulny?

Lessard can't skate more then 5 year old holding on to the back of a chair... and I really feel for winchester who gives it all every night to only be dragged down by Lessard's play... Why is it not the same with Potulny... try putting another actual skater with Winch and Potulny and see if Potulny can get more chances that way instead of assuming right away that it is Potulny to blame...

I expect Kovalev to have a big game tonight. We all know he can turn it on when he wants to, and tonight's game is one that he should get up for.

Had to make a small change. Comment notification is now only available to registered members. Had someone using an email address that did not belong to them and we had a few complaints.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Crosby and Neal will be enough to get Kovalev going if they play together. That is if Crosby plays again this year at all. I can't wait to see whether Kovalev will still bring it or not when the playoffs start.

Oh and just wondering, why is it when can't see the +/- rating on our own comments? I mean it kind of defeats the purpose if you can only see the ratings of others.

I'm quite content not being able to see my +/- rating. It's a childish idea that only encouages uniformity of thought. Many posters will, no doubt, tailor their posts so as to obtain a high plus rating. I'd prefer if it were just dropped altogether.

i say we boo really hard for kovalev the first time he gets the puck then ignore his presence on the ice and totally half heartedly boo

The NHL Wheel of Justice is too fun!

I also think it's amusing that the tyrant is feeling vulnerable when it comes to his ratings appeal.

Here we go already. THIS TEAM IS AWFUL. Its not Anderson. Its all turnovers and horrible d coverage. We complain about having shitty goalies year after year, its because we run the good ones out of town. Sens fans are the worst.

Actually I was just pointing out that the feature is kind of useless if you don't see your own rating. People are inherently self-interested , or were you one of the weird kids who checked other peoples exam grades before looking at your own?

I don't think anyone is lame enough to edit themselves to obtain approval on an internet message board, I certainly don't. I do however think it would be amusing to see how often people agree with the arrogant and generally mean appraisals I have of other peoples posts.

The whole rating system is pretty pointless, because we already know there's plenty of dummies chilling on the chirp.

I mean, How did I get a minus above for stating the shot count after two periods was bad? Its just a fact...

I thought it would be fun, but if you look back at all the comments so far, they're pretty well ALL minuses save for the "GO SENS GO" or "I LOVE THE SENS" or "We had a good game tonight! Hooray!" or "LETS DRAFT A GOOD PLAYER THIS SUMMER!" type of happy thoughtless posts...

Not to mention there's no ratings on the forums, which is where most of the topical debates is going to be happening anyway...
