Speaking with a couple people who had the opportunity to attend the game in person, Ceci looked like a man against boys at times during the opener. Twitter was abuzz after Ceci undressed an opponent to set up what was at the time, the tying goal for the 67's.
Ceci, recently announced as a 67's co-captain, appears as though he'll be worth the price of admission this season.
You can see why both Bryan and Tim Murray believed this kid had a chance to come into Senators camp and fight for a spot on the blueline. He was among the most draft-ready prospects in the 2012 Draft and looks poised to have a big season at the OHL level.
With Karlsson, Cowen, Borowiecki, Wiercioch, Ceci, Gryba and Claesson in the system, the Sens blueline is clearly in good shape for years to come.
Were you there last night? How did Cody Ceci look to you?
He looked really, really good all night long. He is going to be an offensive stud for us in 3 years.
I just thought of the amazing D lines we could sport in a few years:
Methot and Karlsson
Cowen and Ceci
Borowiecki and Wiercioch/Claesson/Gryba
Yowza.
The biggest thing that struck me was his panick threshold is extremely high. Clearly he's going to get a ton of ice time this year which is probably the best thing for his development. He does look lanky at this point but I'm sure they'll have him pack on some muscle before training camp next fall.
The kid I want is Sean Monahan...he is the the real deal and whoever lands him is going to have one he'll of a player on their hands.
What was the attendance last night?
According to today's Ottawa Citizen , the attendance was 10,147 for the opening game at ScotiaBank Place .
Looks like it will be a bonus type year or two for the owner Mr. Hunt!
GO 67'S GO !!!!!!!!!!!
Still can't believe this kid fell to us. He's definitely going to be a quality player and leader for the Sens in the near future!
I find him to be very think for an 18 year old.
During the canada russia series I found his foot speed was a little off. But most likely because it was summer hockey because last year whenever I saw him play I was amazed by his skating ability.
If people are saying his skating was good last night and that he looked like a man among boys that is an awesome sign.
I'm just hoping he keeps it up and makes team canada. It won't be easy because the D is extremely deep especially with the lockout since players like Dumba Murray and Hamilton will still be in juniors
Both the NBA and NHL have been collectively fixated on Seattle for quite some time. The NBA in particular has been eying a return to Seattle since the Sonics were infamously purchased and subsequently moved to Oklahoma City. For hockey fans in Seattle, that's probably good news, as one would realistically assume that an arena housing two professional sports franchises would make quite a bit of financial sense. And, considering reports earlier this year that the NHL had been eying potential expansion under an eight-team, four-division format, Seattle feels like a pretty most logical destination.
Thank God you posted this. I had been missing my daily dose of building site news from Seattle.
It's just a continiation of Tuesday's "Quebec City will get the next NHL franchise discussion.
Do I need to explain the other EKLUND post to you aw well ?
AT - I agree on Sean Monahan, this kid is a gem. He will likely end up behind Nathan MacKinnon and Seth Jones when it comes to the draft attention and the 1st overall battle, but don't let that fool you when it comes to his ability. I hope he flies under the radar a little and slips in position giving Ottawa a chance, depending where we end up.
Actually speaking of Draft. If we don't have a season, I guess the Draft will be determined by a lottery for position the same as it did last time. If so, will the same method be used, with 1, 2 or 3 balls per team, based on the standings from the season before?
What really surprised me, 6 of the top 10 in the current rankings play Centre, including 4 in the top 6. Last year it was basically all wingers and D. 2011's ranking had 5 C's in the top 10 I believe. So teams who are struggling with finding that cornerstone 1st line C may be more in the mix this year, or at least in the draft pick trade mix.
To think they could have had a D anchored by Karlsson, Cowen and Ceci, but instead had Schenn who's gone, Kadri who still can't stay in the NHL and Rielly who they'll find a way to develop poorly. Love being a Sens fan!!!
Leafs - id prefer them to suck forever
Oilers -enough is enough already
Pens -wasn't Crosby enough?
Completely agree with that list. I'd also add Phoenix just because it would then look like the bankrupt teams are handed generational superstars after lockouts.
-1 ball for each first overall pick you had in the past 3 years
-1 ball for each time you made the playoffs in the past 3 seasons
Minimum 1 ball per team.
Many argued that Pitts should not have had 3 balls because they had picked Fleury first overall, but that was done via a trade, so it wasn't Pitts first overall.
So Toronto would unfortunately have 3 balls and the Sens would have 1.
Yeah the Oil and Pens shouldn't get a ball in the draft at all, lol. They should have to wait till all the other teams get picked. Then do a coin flip for who picks dead last. I mean, Oil get 3 1st rounders in 4 years. And Pens get Crosby, that's enough isn't it? Oh yeah, they also have another kid name Malkin who isn't that bad. lol
Here's hoping not to land another Brian Lee, please. Also keep in mind there is no need to stop winnin' for MacKinnon because of a lockout, we now have a chance to win this lottery!
p.s. Is he still labelled as the next Crosby? What's the hype on him nowadays?
But to get him the Sens need to finish in the bottom 3 in the NHL to have a chance (if there is a season that is). To do that.. key players would have to get injured... we know who those 2 key players are.
Going to the game tomorrow. Peterborough is not the same calibre team as Barrie.. but it's hockey..
And for those NHL fans that are boycotting wearing NHL jerseys, etc... there were many many many in attendance last night.. not just Sens fans.
Read on another site.. that LeBrun said the next bargaining session appears to be Oct 14th. Well that had better not be correct.. they had better be meeting a lot sooner than that.
Eklund blogger not = Eklund
Me too! Every Leafs draft pick is cursed from the moment their name is called. GO SENS, 67'S AND BSENS!

Talks about a bunch of things; owners, Bettman, players, etc.
Its very refreshing to hear management speaking the truth. I now have even more respect for the red wings franchise.
Its too bad he got fined. Apparently somewhere around 250K.
To the classless degenerate scum who threw a 9v battery from the nosebleeds into my back - I hope you get what you deserve.
Seriously... what kind of asshole throws a battery? Trying to crack some old lady's skull or something?
He needs to have a big year. Any idea if Maidens is still hurt/concussed? He hasn't played for OS yet.
Yup, still has concussion issues. Last I heard, still no timetable for his return.
Check out the highlights for that Kitchner game. Puempel was dominant in that game. I can see why he is a projected to be a goal scoring machine. The guy has got a super quick relase.
