Silfverberg is coming off a massive season with Brynas and one that culminated with an MVP performance in the playoffs.
With the regular season MVP already under his belt, Silfverberg continued his dominance in the post season, scoring 13 goals and breaking an SEL record held by Daniel Alfredsson in the process.
There was some question over whether or not Silfverberg might stick around to play with the Swedish National Team but according to tweets this morning, the Swedish club will allow him to head to Ottawa. Contract isn't a problem either as this season already counts as the first on his entry level contract.
Would you insert Silfverberg into the line up?
Either way his rip from the circle yesterday would be welcomed in my book. Get out the fine Silfver Sens!
Go Sens Go!
It seems like we have such a strong team personality right now and I wouldn't want to risk losing one of the key characters of that personality ie. our zealous grinders.
Let's go Sens!
Watch that goal from the Brynas final. If you think there's ANY way he gets off that shot in Madison Square Garden -- let alone puts it past Lundquist -- well, I just don't know what to say....
Ottawa's down a Swede in Daniel Alfredsson... our captain, and one of our better finishers. We definitely need some scoring if Alfie doesn’t return.
But wait... he comes another great Swedish prospect in Silverberg… and he just broke one of Alfie's goal-scoring records.
(…and really, I’m surprised someone has maybe this jump yet…)
Hmmm... maybe, just maybe, Silverberg’s introduction during Alfie's last few years is a sign of things to come. Let’s just hope that Alfie's got something left in the tank.
Obviously this is a homer comment, and a huge longshot at best, but I'd sure like it if Silverberg could take a run at the rest of Alfie’s records.
As much as I want to see him play I'm a Sens uniform(anyone know what number he plans to wear?) I think in the interest of cohesiveness and to not play favorites he is here to watch like everyone else and experience the playoffs ...no doubt he makes the team next season though
I donno, you can't count out anyone buring the playoffs.
NYR's leading goal-scorer - Dan Boyle
In the Pitt v Philly series - Matt Read, Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier - all rookies
Nashville's leading scorer - rookie Gabriel Bourque
It's not like it will be the first time that Silverberg has laced them up... so, ya, I think Iif he plays) he'll do fine. If not, take him out of the line up. It's a 'rebuild' year, remember?
I guess this means he won't be playing in game 6?
It would be really interesting to see how he would fit in...but not at the risk of messing chemistry...alt hough you can argue that, chemistry is something missing from the top line so it would not hurt...especial ly if Alfie is still out of the line up.
If we were facing an elimination game I would put him in...but we will have the NYR facing elimination after tomorrow night! Go Sens!!

He's not superman so if putting him in will hurt MacLean's credibility with the team then it's not worth it.
Game 7 maybe.
If Alfie supports it though that might change things.
Of course, I'm not sure we want his first experience with our team being a concussion on a cheap shot from Boyle.
Do we have any idea if boo-boo knows what the hell he's talking about though? Every other media person talking about Silfverberg seems to be saying he's a real option for game 6. Which would seem odd if he's flying across the Atlantic on Sunday.
Anyone else reporting what boo-boo is?
Here is the link http://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/hockey/landslag/hockeyvm/article14709054.ab
There is also a great picture of Silfverberg and Andreas Dackell. Dackell has a pint in one hand. Glad to see him win a championship.
Thanks thepez.
So Monday is still "possible" but he won't have a chance to get a full practice in. I'm thinking he doesn't draw in until round 2 or game 7 - and even then only if Alfie is still out and some other forward plays poorly enough to warrant coming out.
Winchester's status plays into it as well. Not that Silfverberg would play on the 4th line, but if Alfie and Winch are both out then you might see:
Michalek - Spezza - Butler
Foligno - Turris - Silfverberg
Greening - Smith - Neil
Konopka - O'Brien - Condra
I wonder if the Sens win the cup this year if they will be partying with Dan O'Rourke???
Alfie set that record during the lockout. So that means Silfverberg broke a record set by and experienced NHLer, playing (in part) against other NHLers. Also WITH other NHLers so not sure if that's better or worse.
But yeah, looks like there's a chance Silfverberg could be a key player in years to come.
Why not Sens in six?
The sooner the better to get him here but putting him in monday sure seems like a hail mary.
The fact he is coming over is going to have the Rangers scramble to learn about him even if he does not play.
He's not "the answer" but he could be a viable option in the top 6 if he gets in a practice or two. The team really doesn't want Butler in there (though BB16 has played well). Our top 6 is really a top 3 or 4 with a few "okay" guys mixed in.
Silfverberg just finished a championship run where he was playoff MVP so he's got a whole lot of swagger. You don't think he'd have plenty of jump if they put him into game 7 (or round 2 - Sens in 6)?
Edit: What Hax said
NOTE: Not saying that it would totally change the way Torts prepares his team or anything - but any new player that might play for Ottawa would mean they'd review tape etc and brief the players on that person's tendencies etc.
Same feeling so far about game 5. Playing at MSG all the pressure is on the Rangers. I think this team can go in there and steal another game in the garden. I think we'll see more double-shifting to get Spezza and Turris some time together and that will lead to a goal or two.
Throw in a goal from the muckers and I'm calling a 4-2 final with an empty netter at the end (maybe by Michalek just to piss off a certain troll).
Hax - usually your posts are reasonable and intelligent, but I'm really curious how you can make a statement like this? Do you know people on the team? Are YOU on the team? Or is this just based on the fact that Butler has been a healthy scratch recently (in which case it is PM that doesn't want him in, not the team)?
Based on how he's played in the last 2 games, I'd have to think they want him in now.
Praying for Alfie's quick return!!!
I'm loving it!! What's the fastest jet that can get him here!?
GO SENS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tortz won't be too happy with Brooksy on this one. Mostly because he is right.
It's also funny to read the comments from NYR fans, series tied 2-2, Sens fans are just excited to be in the playoffs and showing the 'experts' what their team is made off. While Rangers fans are freaking out and pissed the Sens are keeping pace with them. The difference expectations make...
My favourite is the guy making fun of how SBP is called 'Place', we didn't name it the giant corporation that owns it did, all we care about it is that it's where the sens play not the name.
I actually do have semi-insider info on this one that the Sens tried VERY hard to move Butler out at the deadline. He's got another year on that one-way deal that seemed okay when it was just a regular rebuild. Could be wrong on this one so not claiming to be 100% right. But combine that with his limited ice time and it seems to fit together.
Of course he wouldn't be the first guy to be "on his way out" at some point then work his way back into long-term plans. And he's played very well in games 3 and 4 so I don't think they're unhappy with his play today.
And maybe "don't want him in there" is a bit harsh, but I think if Alfie hadn't gotten hurt he'd never of had a sniff.
So I could be totally wrong or things could have changed since the deadline. I kind of like Bobby and am totally pulling for him. If he could figure a way to play like he did at the end of last year all the time I'd be thrilled.
And maybe Bobby is one of the guys MacLean is thinking about when he says things like "you find out a lot about players in a playoff series - you see which guys have that extra gear maybe you didn't know was there".
Stoners rejoice as your boy is on the ice (but don't hold your breath on him playing). He's wearing #60 until he can work a deal with Butler - why not 61 I'm not sure.
Sylvain St-Laurent @Syl_St_Laurent
Michalek-Spezza-Butler, Foligno-Turris- Stone/Hoffman, Greening-Smith- Neil, Konopka-O'Brien -Condra. Klinkhammer extra. #Sens
Fair enough. I appreciate the explanation. I shall now return to my silent observation / judgement.
Go Sens Go!
Oh... and I'm excited (and getting a little ahead of myself, for sure) about the potential of a OTT / FLA second round
Still a long shot of course, but if Ottawa and Washington both manage to pull off the upsets the East is WIDE open. I put Ottawa's chances way ahead of Washington though. They looked pretty bad for most of that game - not sure how they managed to win it.
Guess the lineup at practice, means Alfie is not on the ice
and still resting and some exercises.
Would love to see Foligno - Turris - Stone in Game 5 or 6 !
I would not insert Silverberg until he has praticed a few times, get into MacLean's system, and that could mean maybe
Game 7, or Round 2.
GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The year on his contract sliding is because of his age. It's no big deal though. Regardless if he came over or not it would be the first year of the contract.
I hope he plays in round 2 if we get there. It would be awesome to have the guy get a week or so of practice with the team and start building chemistry with Turris and Foligno. Also he will need to adjust to the smaller ice.
Go Sens Go!
Quoting SensFanInMTL:
This question has been answered at least 20 times already. He burns a year regardless because if his age. The Sens new this going into the season and wanted him to start in Bingo however Silfverberg wanted to play another year in Sweden so they loaned him back to his old club.
How do I find that through over 200 comments per day thread? Unless you go through all of them, then encule.
He was projected (even at the start of this season) as a two-way 2nd/3rd liner. But this past season might indicate that he might be more than that. Or you can believe Pierre MacWhore who says the SEL "isn't what it used to be".
As for the year on his deal, that was burned anyway - there was no "slide clause". Murray sent him to the SEL to A) keep him happy and B) because he felt the SEL would be almost as good for his development as forcing him to play in Bingo - turns out he was right as I would have to say the playoff run proved that.
How are those predictions now? Only 4 of 8 are even still possible...
Sounds like Alfie is out for a while.
Karlsson = "ROVER" (Hee Hee)
Besides, if Winchester is out of the line up, you're taking out a guy who's been a fringe player all season long anyway, like Daugavins or Klinkhammer. The team can worry about line up changes when Winchester returns. At that time, they would have been able to assess Silfverberg's worth & decide who is best suited to draw out of the line up.
Yeah Scanlan is a big a moron as the rest of the Sens beat writers, suggesting Alfie was "feeling better" and would probably practice today and return soon...
Currently it looks more like late second round if not third round return for our beloved Captain.
Well Said
That's Roy mlakar!
He's our former CEO who was relieved of his duties in 09
Idk why he was there though!
Well if you only dress 5 D then sure. But that's not a good move IMO.
Or were you thinking they could dress 21 guys?
Can you imagine the crowd on Monday night if Alfie suits up and plays?
From what I heard him playing this series has been ruled out. Next series(if we get there) is even in question
It takes elite guys a few YEARS of regular NHL hockey PLUS some failed playoff rounds BEFORE they learn the playoff system.
There is ZERO room for error in these games since they are sooo close.
He will be here just to soak it all in.
Chris Kreider...
Total NHL Regular Season - - - - -
I think Maclean should go with the guys he has for this series. IMO Ottawa can win this series & has momentum going into NY. If they can pull off a victory there in game 5 they will have two more games to win one of them regardless if Alfredsson is there or not we have the man power already to do it.
If they win this series then Silfverberg can draw in for the next series & hopefully Alfredsson will also be back. If they don't win this series then c'est la vie & we'll see Silfverberg this fall. I just don't think a young rookie will make that big a difference in the Stanley Cup playoffs against a team like NY that hit everything & block everything. We have already seen that it's not the stars that are scoring in this series it's the grinders, maybe we could use another one of them instead.
I think that was former Sens president Roy Mlakar.
Posted that at post #63
What is "the playoff system"?
Uhhh... Winnie isn't a "fringe" player... he was injured for large parts of the season, for sure, but if he was healthy I would have thought he'd have played 82 games. He's a very solid 3rd/4th liner.
there are a tonne of examples where rookies stepped in and contributed to the playoffs before playing full seasons in the NHL. To say there is "no way" someone can contribute is ridiculous. if Silvferberg gets in, he'll be replacing a guy like Bobby Butler who, if he draws out, will have contributed nothing but some energetic shifts. (not slighting him, he has been really good but if he has 0 points to show for it, they wont hesitate IMO)
DArren Helm and P.K Subban immediately come to mind as recent examples
very cool Alfie picture #Sens http://twitpic.com/9c26sr
Looks like Winnie is confirmed to be OUT tomorrow:
Ken Warren @Citizenkwarren
No Alfredsson, no Winchester, but Mark Stone goes to New York with Senators http://www.senatorsextra.com/main/no-alfredsson-no-winchester-but-mark-stone-goes-to-new-york-with-senators via @sharethis
Your wrong, esp if winchester cant play monday
Haha, that is hilarious. They must be nervous if they're going after the name of our building. BTW, where the Sens play hockey is closer to a "Place" than a "Garden" :)
Thanks man! That certainly makes sense the way they both reacted - seemed a little too friendly to be simply 2 guys from the Senators organization.
if he clicks with some guys I'd put him in the lineup...if not then hopefully we make it to round 2 and he has more time to mesh
