  • Spezza Ready to Return

(UPDATE 2:21 PM)- Paul MacLean has confirmed what has been speculated the last couple days- Jason Spezza is ready to return to the Ottawa Senators line up.  The Sens number one centre has been out of the line up since January 27.  A huge boost for this team as they return to Scotiabank Place for Game 3.

Some exciting news for Sens fans this morning as Daniel Alfredsson is on the ice at the team's morning skate ahead of Game 3 tonight.

You can watch a live stream of the skate here.  Will have a full Game Day post in a little bit.

I hope Alfie is not taking any major risk by playing.

The guy is superhuman but even he has limits.

Hopefully MacLean would stop him from playing at risk to himself - so assuming he's really good to go:

He was quoted as saying "it's a possibility" in response to a leading question, but then he fully recanted later.

Shanahan to me via e-mail "No truth that Hagelin suspension changes if Alfie plays tonight...3 gms regardless"

I dont know, I'd personally like Alfie to sit out the game just to be sure. It might not mean much, but an extra day of rest will help him that much more. As superhuman as these Swedes are, they're still human, and Alfie isn't 25 anymore. Our captain IS getting older, and I would really not like him to retire due to this head injury.. He's got a good year or two left for sure, he just has to be smart.. I trust PM will do what he does best though!

If Alfie is experiencing any concussion-like symptoms from that hit, there is no way we would play him tonight, and that's exactly as it should be.

The fact that he is taking the full morning skate though is a great sign, hopefully he is good to suit up, we need him badly tonight.

We'll know for sure for sure pretty darn soon. Unless that is Paulrus keeps up the line-up mystique carried over from the last game. Carks + Konopka last minute additions = awesome.

@Mastersens You mean suspension not concussion, yeah I am aware of that.

What I was getting at is that I like the line-up secrecy and surprises in the playoffs, seems like these mind games don't happen often enough, and I'm delighted that MacLean is using this to his advantage already. :)

No need to worry about Alfie. He definitely sold the hit a little. Sure it hurt but he was fine right away. They most likely took him out of the game partly as a precaution and partly to get buddy suspended. If Alfie wouldn't have stayed down there's no way the ref calls a 5minute major and one thing that bothers me about shanahan this year is he seems to only hand down lengthy suspensions if the player gets injured which to me is very wrong. So good on Alfie to sell it a little. At least he wasn't pulling a Kessler swan dive

People actually think that keeping THE CAPTAIN out of the rest of a HUGE game, just to get HAGELIN suspended, was the reason he didn't come back, and that he wasn't actually injured? Give your head a shake. If Alfie could have finished that game, he would have finished that game.

Zibanejad can be a black ace even though he apparently did get hurt (concussion) - he won't play though unless we're desperate and he's healthy - i.e. not before game 5 if that.

And yes riceroni - Bingo's season is over.

Not to act all defensive about Alfie or whether I think he would embellish anything to draw a penalty or whatever...

But in my opinion he didn't sell that hit *one bit*. Completely caught him off guard and stung him, you could see it in his face.

have not had a chance to post since the win.

Gotta love PM, there were questions about being outcoached in game 1, but man did he ever outcoach Torts in Game 2.
Torts got schooled by the Rookie... love it.

huge KUDOS to Carks, this is a very physical game and not for the faint of heart.
Boyle was the Bully in the schoolyard in the first game, I have no issues with NY running and hitting him every chance they get, it is a smart tactic, but to continuesly punch him in the head after the whistle, was going over the line, and if we did not respond, it would surely result in a NY landslide.
So just what should be done with a bully, was done by Carkner, after Boyle runs Karlsson again, and with him knowing Carkner is on the ice, should expect a confrontation, and just like most obnoxious bully's he cowars to Carkner, proving he really is the pussy everyone knows he is. The worst thing Carkner could have done was to stop the punishment, and let the bully win again. He was in for a pound and in for a dollar, that was the chance, so give him the beating he deserved.
Talk about a momentum swing, and thanks to PM and Carks, we may go done, but we will not go down as cowards, and we will not go down without a fight!
This not only sets the tone for this year, but for years to come.

I am at the game tonight, and I already have chills thinking about the ovation our boys will be recieving

Go Sens Go

Silf's team Brynas will play game 5 tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon - I believe a 1pm EST ish start.

He is up 3-1 in the series and I would assume would come over shortly after that. So to answer your question he would be over earliest Thursday I'd assume.

Based on Paul's comments yesterday, he may not see any playoff action, or at best it would be very very late 1st round or 2nd round

Alfie considers himself a game time decision.

I hope he plays but hopefully the boys are preparing to go out and win without him if they have to.

I was so hoping during game 2 that Alfie would come out for OT similar to Paul Pierce in the Celtics playoff run a few years back. But no way a guy plays in the same game where he gets a concussion - no matter if he passes the tests or not.

If you know someone who has tickets near the penalty box, tell him to have signs ready for Boyle if he gets in the box during both games in Ottawa.

Suggestion: Boyle = Little Pussy

You think "little pussy" will get on national TV?

If someone wants their sign on TV they need to be a little more subtle than that.

And really, as much as I hate the Rangers and love the Sens, it's pretty clear that Boyle was taking the punches to get a power play for his team. Torts would have told him before the game that he's going to be targeted and not to retaliate. So I kind of respect the guy for taking a few shots from Carkner just to help his team. Had they scored on the major he would have been a hero.

Our series has been heart attack inducing, but this Pens/Flyers series is pretty wild to watch as well. Who would have thought the Pens would be in this deep of a hole and that this series would be soooooooo hostile. Fireworks galore!

Well since Boyle can't fight and neither can anyone else on the Rags, Konopka can "police". But let's not forget that in terms of actually beating someone up Konopka falls behind Neil and probably Foligno, Cowen and Smith too. Kono's always willing and really tough but he's not really going to scare anyone.

1) Does anyone know if the NYR's are dressing that monster tonight (John Scott, I think?)

2) If they do, is Frank Lessard still with our organization?

3) Not to nitpick, but for tonights game they are giving out towels (better than those thundersticks, which really quietens the building), but I heard the towels will be white...Wouldn' t it make more sense to give out red towels, aw we will be in red and the Rangers will be in white? (Sorry, I know it's a small detail, but I watched the big Phoenix "white out" on the week-end and I had to laugh as it looked like the Hawks were receiving the support and the Coyotes in red looked like the enemy. Someone should tell these marketers that the home team stopped wearing the white jerseys years ago.)

Anyway, GO SENS GO!
