In a year where the Sens were projected to be a basement team and the Habs and Leafs considered playoff contenders, Ottawa has completely flipped the script. Both the Habs and Leafs fan bases were sure to rub it in when the Sens struggled last year so this week is a chance for Sens fans to return the favour. The Leafs sit in twelfth, the Habs are last in the East, with the playoffs likely out of reach for both.
I know it’s not in the nature of our usually polite fan base, but be sure to rub it in a little bit this week. The rebuilding Senators are in a playoff position while both the Habs and Leafs are a mess. Something tells me if the roles were reversed, they would let us hear it.
The Senators were on the ice for practice this morning and were briefly joined by the rapidly recovering Craig Anderson. He took shots before the practice and then stuck around to take some shots from the rest of the team.
Obviously another step in the right direction for Anderson although there is still no timeline for his return. Paul MacLean indicated that Ben Bishop will start tomorrow night in Montreal.
- An interesting article on HF Boards this morning indicated that Jakob Silfverberg would be interested in returning to Ottawa this season when his year is done in Sweden. Silfverberg suggested that the he has not heard from the organization as of yet but we know that the Sens believe Silfverberg is NHL ready. We’ll have to keep an eye on this story moving forward. Assistant GM Tim Murray has already talked about the possibility of bringing Mika Zibanejad over for a playoff run as well.
- Spoke with a contact this morning who suggested the Sens are one of a number of teams that are looking at NCAA free agent defenceman Andrej Sustr. The 6'8 defender just finished his second season at the University of Nebraska Omaha.
I hear Bishop is making a stir fry tonight *fingers crossed

Terrible player
You're going to be pissed then when the Sens resign him. I like his game, despite the open net miss on the back hand.
Note: If he and Wamsley can't do anything about that hole between his legs it will be exploited...it has already been identified!
You a psychic now bro?
Grow up folks. You guys are acting like you've ONLY had great goalies....
Dont forget thats the second time in the short period that gilroy has been here that he has missed the wide open net, 1st time he shot it over the net on what was a tap in goal.
Tampa has been playing great since, he is playing over 20 min per game, and a big part of their teams success.
Gilroy has done nothing but miss nets, and screw up PP's
Should have at least traded Lee for a 2nd pick, Gilroy will be gone in the offseason and we will have zilch to show for a first round pick...
Sorry little bitter about a loss to a last place team
2 shoot-out losses are huge vs non playoff teams he has too win those that's a full 2 points left on the table we be in 2nd right now
With Boston about too do a west coast trip we can't leave those points on the table with 12 games left
Release The Lehner !!!!
I think Gilroy gets resigned. I think he's looked better every game he's played. I believe they will resign them to help replace Kuba who I believe will walk when so team desperate for D offers him a 3 year deal at over 4M per year.
Then again I'm not a psychic.
I think he deserves the start on Friday, and then perhaps give him a break on Saturday and give Lehn the opportunity.
As for today, let's not be complete homers here. The Sens did play a good first period, but for the rest weren't as good as they normally are, and to be honest, probably didn't have any business winning the game. Karlsson is the single reason why we got a point.
Would have stole it if Gilroy hit the open net, but at this stage of the season, hard to really complain with coming with a point. You take what you can get in playoff pushes.
I said it before, and I'll say it again, I really don't want to see Gilroy back next season. I know some are skeptical at free agents, but Ryan Suter would be really nice on our back end. He's a mid aged guy, a top 4 guy, and we have the space to acquire him. Honestly wouldn't mind. But our backend needs a bit more polish, and I don't think we'll get that from Gilroy.
FREEBIRD !
INDEED !
6 points in 4 games from a rookie goalie
MORE than I hoped for when Anderson got hurt.
