The Tampa Bay Lightning have been coming on strong as of late, winning four straight and playing their way back into contention in the East. Former Senator Brian Lee has fit in nicely in Tampa and will take on his former mates for the first time tonight.
The Bolts currently sit eight points back of the Senators.
While you can't really blame Lehner for either of the two losses, the Senators have decided to give Ben Bishop a shot in goal. Bishop has really impressed in his brief three game stint in Bingo and will be eager to show he can play at the NHL level. Get ready to hear a whole lot of height jokes tonight- Bishop is 6'7 and pushing seven feet on skates.
After being a healthy scratch on Sunday night, Zack Smith draws back into the line up in place of Zenon Konopka. Bobby Butler, who has been quiet the past few games, will also come out of the line up in favour of Kaspars Daugavins. Here is how the Sens are expected to line up.
Greening-Spezza-Michalek
Klinkhammer-Turris-Alfredsson
Foligno-O'Brien-Neil
Daugavins-Smith-Condra
Kuba- Karlsson
Phillips-Gilroy
Cowen-Gonchar
Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7:30 PM tonight with all the action available on Sportsnet and TVA Sports. Keep an eye on the comment section for any streams that become available.
- The NHL announced that defenceman Erik Karlsson was fined $2,500 for a slash on Panthers forward Sean Bergenheim on Sunday night. I had initially suggested the league may suspend Karlsson so obviously a fine is a much better outcome.
Not to nit-pick here, but I think you meant to say Hawks and Panthers ;)
Puckdrop is @ 7:30 according to NHL.com
I don't think he will play in Ott this year, I think if they were ok with burning a year of his contract they would of just kept him here all season. I do however think they will get him to play in Bingo
Should of known better then to use the Sun as a reference!!
They have puck drop at 7pm
hey chirp...think you mean he was FINED $2,500 and not SUSPENDED $2,500...lol... keep up the great work! Love your site!
Here's hoping Smith responds with a solid game after sitting out and that Spezza and Karlsson rebound too!
Go Sens Go!
Haha yes, that is correct. Some of my best work this morning.
Good news for Sens Fans.
It all depends on the 'Wheel of Fortune' in Shannahan's office...
Winnipeg is playing lights out.. Sens don't seem to be consistent with that...
They need to play well in front of Bishop tonight.
Still don't know what to think about the Lee trade. Sure he was not a Murray pick.. but the Sens record with him in the lineup can't be disputed...13-0 -1...
Though I agree it seems controversial to burn a year at this point, Ottawa had expected he'd get a lot more ice time in the SEL than he did. It actually makes sense for his development to allow him to grow in an offensive role the rest of this season in the NHL, given that the Sens are desperate for another scoring top 6 winger right now.
All that to say, it would be nice to see him this year but I understand if the business decision to not burn the year is chosen by BM. Either way, I expect he'll be on the team by next fall at the latest.
I know it doesn't affect Rookie Status because Helm almost won 2 Cups before he qualified for rookie of the year, same thing with Patrick Roy
But if we bring Zibby over to Bingo for remainder of year and then put him in Playoffs (which is not paid) then I'm not 100% sure what hapens
anyone know?
I was thinking the same thing. Let him play in Bingo the rest of the season.. and bring him up for the playoffs.. even if it is with the 'Black Aces'.
If he can play in the playoffs without burning the year of his ELC then do it..
I think you are correct regarding the playoffs. My assumption is they would want to see him in regular season games before sending him to the wolves in the playoffs. That's the part I believe would then burn the year off the ELC. If they are comfortable having him in Bingo until the playoffs and it keeps all his years on his ELC, it would be an interesting experiment for sure. And of all the seasons to try "innovative" strategies out, this is the one!
He has not underwhelmed at all this season. He plays for the second worst team in the SEL, and he has the fourth highest point per game average in his team and he still 18. Also he has been playing wing all year with them aswell. Djurgarden is also an extremely low scoring team, the last 3 games they have only scored 1 goal, and Zibanejad chipped in a point in 2 out of the 3 games.
Another note, whenever I read up on the game review, they most of the time mention how Zibanejad creates great scoring chances.
If you take all this into account I would say he is playing great in a crappy team.
I agree that the Sens biggest need this summer is on D however I disagree about trading Zibanejad or any of our blue chip forward prospect for a younger less established d-man. We should only include them in a trade for a more established older (22-24) top 2-3 d-man.
I think its better to stay the course, keep building and adding to our cupboards. right now our draft pick is projected to be between 16-20 I say pick the best d-man available, remember Karlsson was drafted 15th overall.
I also disagree with your assesement of Zibanejad, I think he will start the year on the big club, he's big, he's fast, he hits he could start on the 3rd line he's definitely an upgrade over Condra, Neil, Daugavins.
I really liked Lee when he was here. He never complained and seemed to do his job to his abilities. That said...I really don't think its fair for us to point to that 13-0-1 record with Lee in our line-up, and suggest he truley was the glue that held those wins together. Lee played well for us this year (when he did) but he wasn't the magic peice of the puzzle that made this team win those games. Was always a reliable plug at 3rd D-pairing.
Superstitions aside, Lee was a replaceable piece on this team, and thats exactly what Murray did by swapping for a similar guy with more age, skating ability and (on paper) more puck movement saavy.
Fair deal for both teams if you ask me. I will miss the kid though. But move on me must..and we shall.
But if he comes over and dominates in Bingo, and we can bring him up in the playoffs without burning a year off, then that would be an interesting proposition.
They wont burn a year of ELC for 10 games and MAYBE a quick playoff exit. Thats just bad management.
love almost all of his moves, may question a few, but in the end he is very strong on judging talent.
I do have to question his move of Lee however. I have been voicing my thoughts on his mistreatment since last year, when during the stretch he was one of our most consistent d-men.
This year he again was one of our most fluid d-men and very smooth in our own end.
Whatever he did to remain as the 7th d-men only confused me, and his disposal from Ottawa still leaves me confused.
But what I have seen of Gilroy so far, Yzerman has completely stole this deal.
Lee has been a part of the Tampa's better play of late, and will go on to prosper in Tampa, whereas I do not think that Gilroy will be part of the future here in Ottawa, as he is a UFA, and so far has not done much to help us win any games
Anyways, to keep with the theme of the day, I heard the Dorion interview today and was left with the impression that Zibanijad may spend some time in Bingo but his shot in the NHL will come next season.
This makes the most sense from all sides of the argument. Save that year on the contract. This year hasn't gone as smoothly as desired for the kid. And he's only 18, 19 at best.
As Pierre Mcguire said this morning, the Sens staff have operated flawlessly this season with respect to the development of their prospects (ie: not rushing young guys into the NHL; see NY Islanders) and the moves they have made throughout the preseason and regular season.
Why bring him up at this point? Mika Zibanijad isn't the difference between a Cup and 2nd place.
I liked/like Lee and sorta wished he'd have ended up on our second pairing but too late now. Gilroy looks fine to me but I don't see anything that makes me think he's any better or worse than Lee.
On Zibby: Murray has intentionally burned a year of ELC's before in order to build the relationship with that player. So that could happen here but only if it makes sense in the long-term, i.e. if Zibby's in a head space where he wants to see that year burned rather than be uncertain about where he stands.
Thanks Hax appreciate you views, and agree this must have come from Lee's camp and who could have blamed him.
I really have not been impressed with Gilroy, he reminds me of a poor mans Campoli, but he still has about 15 games to prove me wrong and heres to hoping he does
As far as I know he is burning his ELC in SEL this year. Would that make him eligible to come here when his team is done?
I think that is what Murray is evaluating.
On Zibby: He will go to the AHL, play a few games, adjust to the smaller ice, and if he lights it up....maybe get the call up to play with turris/alfie (we need to get a second line firing).
Stamkos vs Bishop!
St.Louis vs Karlsson!
Spezza vs whovever is in nets for TB?!!? LOL
Need a W to stay ahead of the pack!
This was a classy move that made sense for Lee as well as the Sens, no point holding the kid back from a fresh start to re-define himself.
With Gilroy, he has distinguishable Assets namely, great skater and good first pass with an offensive upside. PM is clearly going with a puck mover and stay at home d on each pairing....
I agree that Zbad makes the big club but what about Silfverberg? Scouts say he makes it as well so how many rookies are we playing next year? There is Peterson, Stone etc to consider but they will all be rooks.
Nice predicament to have don't you think? GM and scouts did a great job!
Apostle I would rather Lee over both of those two... I guess that is my frustration with that deal
miguel - your assessment is completely bias and therefore I have to discard it. Lee has not been a part of Tampa's wins. He had an assist on a Stamkos goal where he made a simple 7 foot pass and Stamkos scored on a shot only he could turn into a goal. Last game Lee was -2 and was directly responsible for both goals he was on the ice for with terrible d-coverage. he is just not that good right now. I hope he can turn it around, he has been a very solid professional but you know what? Career depth defensemen don't complain because they shouldn't, they are replaceable.
Gilroy could have 17 goals with sens right now and you'd bemoan that we traded him for Lee.
Lee is gone man, let it go.
Yeah and it sure worked out well didnt it with the college boys?
Lesson learned here.
And how can you say he's better than what we put on on the 2nd line, he had 1 point in his 9 game tryout and 12pts in 25 games in the SEL. He's hardly played enough games to warrant a callup to the NHL. I dont know what all this rush is about bringing in Zbad, let him develop!!!
could have 17 goals??? and I am biased? Explain>
simply I like Lee's game over Gilroy.
And Lee has been with Tampa in their turnaround, but I have not seen his games, so you may be right.
LWL reports it's Garon in nets tonight for TB
For the Gods! Now we cant lose...can we?
Lee was never going to be able to replace Kuba's points. Gilroy has a much better chance at that. I don't see anybody in Bingo ready to replace Kuba in either minutes or point production either. Gilroy is probably nothing more than a stop gap or a stepping stone but he could turn into something more - Lee was never going to be anything more than he already was.
Who cares!?!
Guys like him are a dime a dozen!
Did you ever think Murray was making room for a FA next year!?
Let it go boys.
I think the burning of the year with Butler and Da Costa was partly because we were unsure what we had but also we used it as a negotaiting tool when wer were in competition with other teams. That isn't the case with Zibanejad.
I would hope that when he was sent to the SEL he was told go away work hard and you'll have a great shot at making the big club next season. Bingo will help with that.I don't see him as a difference maker this year which is why burning up the year makes little sense.
I agree that the staggering of contracts can be issue but it isn't at the moment. We only have 3 forwards signed to contracts for 2013/14 at this point. We have a lot of flexibility in that area at the moment.
obviously I do care, and did not like the trade, but willing to let it go... if Gilroy pans out,
now 383 do you have anything of value to bring?
Lets hope it's a hard lesson learned, Don't want to start a bad rep.
My "value" by adding that comment was to point out that YOU are complaning about a trade between two number 6 defenceman.
It's barely newsworthy let alone does it make or break us right now.
Get a clue bud.
again you bring nothing!
number 9 overall, who was just about to turn it around... why dont you go play Clue...Bud
lol make that 13 in 26. As I said before Djurgarden is extremely low scoring, they only scored 1 goal today again.
although coming to bingo isnt too much more hockey since he has to come to N.america soon enough anyways
What?
That post was so corny that I bet it would make enough popcorn to feed every reader/poster on this website!
over working him? he is 18 not 40 he can take it!
http://vimeo.com/37119711
You clearly don't know anything about hockey what you just said right now...
HIS ELC signed with Ottawa senators. How would that burn years off in the SEL?!?
His contract is with the Ottawa senators so. His contract will only apply when his in the AHL or NHL... God can't believe I'm explaining this.
it is one thing to come in and argue back and forth due to differing opinions but to sit here and argue about what on person should or should not be posting (especially if it is still Sens related) is a little ridiculous.
he has a right to post his opinions just like anyone else. Disagree about Lee's value... sure but don't get bent out of shap over him posting about it lol
anyways, here is to hoping big ben put on a big show for us tonight. I am excited to see him play and hope we get the 2 points.
Hope Smith took the benching personally and comes out on fire too.... play physical against Tamp boys
Go Sens Go
I honestly JUST finished watching that like 30 seconds ago, and then I came to senschirp right away and that was the first comment I saw. Wow...creepy.
Anyways, really think you guys should watch that link!
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/111731/1/watch-tampa-bay-lightning-vs-ottawa-senators.html
i didnt say he isnt physically capable of doing it. i just ment that we would be literally rushing him from the games played here to wjc to SEL, to bring him here to AHL or even NHL would just be completly rushing him for no reason.
Actually hate to point it out to you M Savage but you are wrong, ELC start at 20 years old no matter where your are playing. Silfverberg is 21 therefore he's up 1 year of his ELC
Our D man really shouldn't have the most or best scoring chances in the game
Unless it's Karlsson wearing a Chris Neil mask
FOR THE MODERLAND OF RUSSIAAAA
Looks like the D are taking matters into their own hands
3-2 Bruins Early in the 2nd
Yep, if Bos wins and Wash wins then the entire Province will have to be cheering for Alfie and the Sens to beat TB. Great to be a Sens fan.
NOW he might, now that we are up 3-0 (no thanks to him) LOL
Maybe Coach will put him out there for the empty netter baha
Thans Roly.
Jesus Sens! Space out your goals!
That would be like winning the 50/50!
Is the secondary scoring starting? They need it down the stretch... especially tonight and the next 2 games.
Need to gain space back fellas.... space from 8th
Cool Guy!
It'd be great if he could be back for every game between now and April. Actually, tell all 23 of them to come back! It'd do us wonders in making the playoffs.
Now, two periods to go! Do not for god sakes take the foot off the gas. Predicting a 6-1 win tonight.
Definitely some much needed secondary scoring tonight
You speak the truth my man
If the Sens can play this way, like they have indeed been most of the season, they can honestly compete with and beat any team in the NHL.
That guy is a part time contributor on this site. Hope to have an article from him up tomorrow.
I believe he knew that. I think he was just stating that he likes him :)
You're right....Caron just put Bos ahead.
Must be great profit margins
No actually I didn't know that. I will be reading his comments tomorrow.
Who wants Boston Pizza anyway??? Colonnade's FTW!
Part of me thought you were kidding, but my heart told me you weren't LOL
I wreally wreally hope not....
The man has no filter to stop stupid thoughts from becoming part of the broadcast. All that shit about the importance of height...the 5'7" guy scoring on the 6'7" guy...
My brain hurts.
We all miss Galley....
Yeah, but I like him. He is our own Yogi Berra.
That's a big part of their offense.. poor Kessel will have to go it alone.
Come on Sens.... can they just skip 2nd periods...
Keep at it Turris!
He is a slug in our zone
at 6'8 stand the fuck up on that and it doesnt go in....Andy doesnt need a damn stick to play, put him in there and fast!
Sens better get their shit together soon. Momentum is all but lost...
good job by P-MAC to call a time-out to settle down the boys.
Nope. Two of the goals have happened when Cowen was pinching in way too deep. Someone tell him to play his position when the team has a lead!
.... I wasnt implying Gonchar was guilty on the goal, i was typing in reference to seconds before, Gonchar looks like he is about to take off, then he just slows down for some reason
Great everyone. Tookies' here... (sigh)
Cowen looks bad again tonight
Gonchar too, defensively
where is alfie?
Please tell me you all haven't forgotten Cory a.k.a T-900. all he effing did was glare at the team with his laser beam eyes LOL
I just had to revive this funny post hahhaha
if phillips isnt ready for next game, hope we bring up gryba or preferably borocop
At this point loser, who is a factor?!? The whole team has lost momentum. You're an idiot!
You were the one who said "mark my words" LOL
now you resort to anger and name calling
Foligno doesnt even have a shot on net let alone a legit goal in months and you make a bold statement like that, you had it coming
LMAO too funny, some people just get in over there heads...
Really, because we arent delusional we arent sens fans?
GTFOH
GOAL GOAL GOAL GOAL
GOAL GOAL GOAL GOAL
GOAL GOAL GOAL GOAL
Seriously, when was the last time we had a D-Man scoring 16 goals in one season? And there's like 15 games left.
to go along with his Gordie Howe - love it
You can buy Gordie Homes now? hmm, thats pretty cool
Whatever delusional. You two are just downers. Its fucking annoying. If you want to spew your negativity, do it at your anger management class, or with your shrink.
delusional "sens" fans - really? A laffs fan calling a sens fan dulusional? Thats the very definition of delusional -
Gonchar's looked great on all but one play this game so far. He's pulled off some tight moves.
Karlsson for Norris!
AAAaaaaaahhhhh Potvin, make it STOP!!!!
sorry eating pizza, watching game (having a rum & coke) and typing... :)
silfverberg got 2 assists today. ending his regular season with 54 points in 49 games.
Haha, I was just joking around man. :)
"drunk" would be appropriate
or how bout Grabovski for 5 years at $5.5/yr - yeah right and we're delusional
here come the thumbs up !
Thumbs down, we needed the laughs to take the 2
How god damn ironic
NEWSFLASH
Foligno has done jack shit all game not even a shot on net
the times he has had the puck, he dekes himself out or falls down
any half assed sens fan would know better than to predict a good game by our worst player
Who is the real Leaf fan?!?!?
Zibanejad is done playing with Djurgården April 6th. OTT finishing up Apr 7th, Bingo 13-14th. Destined to be a "black ace".
a few seconds after...
"Here's Stamkos... SCORES!!!!!!!!!"
-______-
fuckum
can't see Ottawa giving up a year of free agent non-eligibility for a handful of games/minutes. I can see them "asking" him play a few games in Bingo - like 3/4 - same as they did with Cowen last year when he answered the bell.
You're awesome dude. You're winning personality has won me over. From now on, you will be the voice of my reason. Tell me oh great one, who shall I cheer for now?
Get lost Captain Negator.
Feel free to scroll up to see the evolution of this nonsense
Key points being when you made an absurd claim, called me an idiot and called me a leafs fan,
My posts have simply been reactions to your nonsense
you are the problem
Would have been better in reg but we'll take it.
That was for the whiners earlier in the season...
I think we need few more those to even things up from earlier in the season to be honest.
Milan hit 50? when?
All people are going to see is that all you bring to the table are negative know-it-all comments. Sorry dude, but Tookie claimed that title years ago. You're just an imitator...
Players do play with broken noses don't they? at least some of them.
I'm willing to give Bishop a mulligan on this game.. no real practice time with the team... I do not want to see Auld in net against the Rangers.... unless they leave him in Tampa.
They do. Philips will have the cage. I'm not doubting his toughness..
...Dean Brown is so corny sometimes
Milo Milo Milo hahaha
After watching Bishop ...Lehner is better !!!
You remind me of leaf fans, all you do is live in the past. The problem with you is you do it against your own team.
It's gonn abe hilarious when the Sens make the playoffs, and you change your name to "I know nothing about hockey"
MM looked like DH on that goal. Stick in the air, ready for the one-timer.
btw: DH has not come close to 50 since Spezza was feeding him.
Eugene says !!!!
... I finally got ahold of canucnik's weed dealer
I took your advice.
I played clue, it ended up being Brian Lee, in the kitchen, with the -1, 0 shots and 16 minutes of playing time.
Thanks Miguel.
Mr. Cheechoo hit 50 once upon a time to where is he?
You guys are completely clueless, its just too easy.
Last time I checked Heatley scored back to back 50 goals and led our team to a SC run. There is no questioning that, you can try and look like complete idiots, thats fine with me.
Until Milan scores 50 or leads us to a SC run, he has not replaced Heatley by any means...
Heatley wouldn't have replaced Heatley - what's your point? Do you seriously not think the Sens and EVERYONE else in the entire NHL don't think the Sens won that trade???
Not back to back and no SC run to the finals, nice try tho rookie.
BOOOOOORRRRING
Were not even talking about who won the trade, dont try and change the angle, knucklehead. You implied by saying "Dany who" that Milan has replaced Heatley...
He hasnt even hit 40+ for us yet, not even once. And you go and say "Dany who". I dont like him either but when Heatley was here he was King, your gonna tell me you didnt like him when we were in the SC run or his back to back 50....
Wake up son!
Heatley has been on the decline since he left Ottawa... Couldn't get more than 39 goals playing with the great Joe Thornton on a loaded SJ team...
Like the character of Milan better... and he is a much faster skater, younger, and a better defensive player.
But in years passed.... His last years with Ottawa... MEatley was a much better scorer than Milan... no doubt..
Heatley leading us to the SC? How about this gentleman named Mr. Alfredsson?
How has Heatley performed since getting the boot and being with a 'legitimate' first line center? 50 goals? Not so much.
The art of trolling is about quality not quantity. You sir, write too much tripe and only look desperate moreso than whatever you tried to accomplish.
