  • Another Playoff Moment

Something I learned at a young age, is that if you approach playoffs with the "Cup or bust" mentality, you'll completely miss the real beauty of this magical time of year.

Playoffs are all about those "moments". Those where were you when, kind of moments. The ones that stick with you for days, weeks, even years to come. And as Ottawa Senators fans, we have been pretty spoiled the last couple of seasons.

Game Day- Anderson vs. Elliott

The Ottawa Senators are in a slump and need to get back on track in a hurry.

With last night’s win over the Oilers, the Leafs have now vaulted the Sens in the standings, bumping Ottawa to the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.  With the Capitals not far behind, the Senators need to start picking up points on home ice.

First up, Brian Elliott and the St. Louis Blues.  The former-Senator will be eager to put on a show against the team that drafted him and where he played the first 130 games of his NHL career.  Elliott was named to the NHL All Star Game this year and has enjoyed a huge bounce back season with the Blues, posting a 15-5-0 record, with a 1.69 GAA and an impressive .938 save percentage.

St. Louis is the stingiest defensive team in the league, which isn’t great news for a slumping Sens offence.  The Blues allow a league low 1.94 goals a game.

Key to success in this one is pretty simple- find a way to beat Elliott early.  The Senators have been falling behind in games every time out and need to break that trend tonight.  An early goal would energize a team that is looking for something to rally around.

Milan Michalek will be playing his 500th game in the NHL tonight.  Another milestone is on the horizon as this is game number 999 for defenceman Chris Phillips.  He will play 1000 on Thursday against the Predators.

There was some talk the Sens may go to Alex Auld for the first time in 2012 but that is not the case. MacLean will stick with his number one goalie tonight in a game the Sens desperately need to win. Here is how the Senators are expected to line up in front of Anderson.

Greening-Spezza-Michalek
Condra-Turris-Alfredsson
Foligno-Smith-Neil
Daugavins-Konopka-O'Brien

Kuba-Karlsson
Cowen-Gonchar
Phillips-Carkner

Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7:30 PM with all the action available on Sportsnet and TVA.  The Sens will wear their heritage jersey's for tonight's game.

I heard Z-bad is back, and only missed a few games from the injury... secondly heard he is playing quite well since his OT winner at the WJC... I thought one of the posters sent this update recently... No?

You heard wrong.

He's been out since Dec 22, 2011, he's played in 3 games since:

Jan 10, 2012
Jan 24, 2012
Feb 4, 2012

He has 2pts in those 3 games and a total of 8pts in 16 games played, out of a total of 45 games.

He's missed quite alot and evident by his 3 games in the last 20 or so, he's still suffering from concussion symptoms.

so.....how can he be concussed so badly since the 22nd of december 2011 and play in the WJC from Dec 26 2011 to Jan 5 2012 AND SCORE THE WINNING GOAL?
so if you are to be believed he played 6 games for sweden in the WJC while scoring 5 points..if he can do this while being concussed, then I put my vote in for him starting with the Senators NOW.

dude you are seriously bonkers.

I knew that was way too long of a stretch, thx for pointing that out.

Since Jan 10, he's played in 3 games, there ya go. Not much diff if you ask me. The fact is he suffered a consussion and is still feelings effects from it.

Lol. The fact that as an 18 year old he has 2 points out of 3 games in the Swedish Elite league after scoring WJC winner is already a good indication of his development.

If you go on Djurgarden Hockey club site, Zibanejad is fourth on the team in points per game.

Also to object to your statement on his concussion symptoms obscuring his playing ability. Last game he scored a goal against Brynas, and that was the first game he played coming out of a concussion.

Need some help. Does anyone here know if Turris has ever spent any time on the wing (either), or if he's strictly a center?

At least Auld got some time in last night and did ok.

I sure hope we give Anderson a decent break. Next Wednesday is our second game of a back-to-back before the team gets 4 days off. I say start Auld that second game against Florida.

Should be a good break for the whole team... can't come soon enough.
