Paul MacLean's group was on the ice yesterday and he indicated there will be a couple changes to the Sens line up against the Kings. Defenceman Mark Borowiecki will play his second game in the NHL and take the place of Matt Carkner on the blue line.
Bobby Butler will replace Andre Petersson and skate on the team's top line. Here is how the Sens lined up at the game day skate in LA.
Michalek-Spezza-Butler
Foligno-Turris-Alfredsson
Greening-Smith-Neil
Daugavins-Konopka-Condra
Kuba-Karlsson
Cowen-Gonchar
Phillips-Borowiecki
One place where there will not be a change is in goal. Craig Anderson will make his 13th consecutive start and league leading 46th of the season. There is a chance Alex Auld sees some action before the All Star break but it will really depend how Anderson and the Sens do tonight.

After a tough back to back, the focus will shift to the All Star Game festivities planned over the weekend.
On Thursday, Daniel Alfredsson and Zdeno Chara will select their teams for the All Star Weekend. Alfie has been joined by Henrik Lundqvist and Joffrey Lupul will help out Zdeno Chara. The event will be televised on TSN and held at the Casino Lac Lemay.
Also kicking off on Thursday is the Scotiabank NHL Fan Fair at the Ottawa Convention Centre. The event will offer three days of interactive games and attractions, special appearances, trophy and memorabilia displays, music, food and dozens of other dynamic activities. Go here for more information on that event.
On Friday, the Energizer Night Skate will take place down on the Rideau Canal. Thousands of skaters light up the historic Rideau Canal with proceeds going to the Sens Foundation. To learn how you can participate in this unique event, click here.
The Skills Competition goes on Saturday night from 7-9 PM. Then the next day, Team Alfredsson goes head to head with Team Chara in the NHL All Star Game, which gets underway at 4:00 PM.
For information on all the exciting events planned for All Star Weekend, visit the Ottawa Senators website.
I haven't seen "Boro-Cop" play, and I would like to know what other thinks of him? Critiques? How's his "game"?, etc.

Not much, but wasnt asked to do much either, basically an error free game.

I was going to say... I missed the first ~10 minutes of the game because I was at soccer, but shortly after I tuned in, I saw the BoroCop just level someone to the ice behind our net and I instantly fell in love. So, at least 1 of those 2 registered hits were worth more to me than the stat suggests.
Perhaps you'd like to give them to your ol' pal, SensChirp? :)
Bad news for this weekend.
Sound Fishy...
I've heard about him... never seen him ;)
Kind of like a dorky blogging superhero.
Yeah and it's not really looking like it will get better until Sunday... It would be a pity if they can't do that Energizer skate, would be really cool to see i think...
Just trying to sell a pair of all star game tix. Not entirely sure why that's weird or fishy.
will give you my left kidney and a home made lasagna.
I think the Kidney would ruin the taste of the lasagna, no?
Mmmmm the lasagna sounds nice :) not sure what I'll do with that left kidney though
Are your tickets for sale or not ??
Of course they are. Just send me an email with an offer and I'll get back to you.
Don't want the comment section to turn into an auction.
Thanks!
How about an ASG fantasy contest? Something along the lines of picking the individual and team winners of the skills contests... plus picking 5 skaters + goalie for the game (pts, PIMs, saves, etc).
Will make the ASG even more fun to watch...
I'm sure you have some prize somewhere you can give away!
I'm assuming that when you are too sick to go to work you turn up to watch what's going on?
Neither did I. Sorry about that
Isn't the general assumption that one of Kuba or Lee will be gone at the end of this season? If that's the case I believe they will keep carkner around as dman 7 or 8.
The guy is seemingly adored in the dressing room and I doubt you would hear a peep from him in a negative sense if he was a healthy scratch from time to time. Team guys ARE important to have around the place. Add that to the fact he's a local boy and we know Murray loves those.
Plus Carkner provides valuable pugilist skills and with more not less young players around next year I think Carkner signs another cheap 1 or 2 year contract.
I'm looking for 9MM to finally hit the score sheet tonight. I hope he has his legs back for this game. With Quick and Andy both playing some great hockey right now I'm expecing a close game, maybe even an OT winner. I'm saying Sens win 2-1 in OT.
Go Sens Go!!
Or of course if we end up packaging away one of the other D in order to get a long-term solution for our top 6 (which is unlikely but still possible I guess).
I don't think that's the same thing. The game is on TV. I don't think anyone expects Regin to show up in California. The very least he could do is watch the game, don't you think? If he is well enough to go tubing (speculation at this point), he's surely well enough to watch the game and encourage his team mates in spirit.
If my work was on TV and I was getting paid a few millie, I would definitely watch while i was sick. Especially if I cared about what was going on that day. As it is now, I often times phone into meetings when I'm sick to listen in and sometimes (depending on the importance of the matter) participate. Staying on top of your work is part of being a professional.
Go Sens go,
Spendzza
Karlsson - Kuba
Gonchar - Cowen
Phillips - Borowiecki
(Insert Rookie or FA here)
Cut ties with Lee and Carkner, especially Carkner.
I think Regin's duties are to rehab and workout the way that the sens doctors have advised him to do (agree not sure that tubing is the way forward but would imagine he had cleared that with the doctoirs at the very least - if indeed it was him that was doing it).
I don't think his duties are to watch every game and cheer his team on. We think it is but that's because we are fans and therefore irrational idiots most of the time.
ehhhh, just one more thing....
I truly believe that we can win both this game tonite, and the next game on Tuesday night in Phoenix !
Both Ottawa and Boston will be fully rested on Tuesday night Jan 31st.
Might be a great upset or a wipe out !!
Smart man. Gets his cake, and eats it too.
It's not completely the end of the world, it makes a 8th place harder to catch, look on the bright side Toronto's in 9th place
What kind of league do they have where a different number of points are awarded depending on the outcome? They should keep overtime as is but award a team 3 pts for a regulation win.
You think teams wouldn't try harder near the end of the third period as well? Maybe battling for a playoff spot and they can gun it and try for 3 instead of maybe only getting 1 point.
God I hope they do this, would make the playoff races a lot more titillating to boot.
I realize it is only Tuesday but we may already have a winner for the Burn-of-the-Wee k award. Hahaha!

Karlsson is gonna cost us a fortune...
He is going to be one motivated kid tomorrow. I'll bet the Stache double shifts him a lot so he gets a lot of opportunities to score against them. I wouldn't be surprised if an idiot like Torres takes a run at him though. On another note, let's go Islanders! Back to back against the Laffs, hopefully Nabakov keeps up his stellar play against them. Burke would definitely make a panic trade this weekend if they lose both.
Well thats only 4.6M a season, not that bad...I'm just hopng it stays under 6.5Mil a season!
And really, who cares about Regin...He's dead to me as a Senator.
If that is true, I wouldn't be too surprised if we are one of those teams.
The point is.. he has a very bad shoulder. I don't think tubing is the best thing for him, is it? I mean could he do more damage if he had an 'accident' on the hill?
You can only look at players coming out of ELC which I don't believe Goligowski is?
Even if he is, we all know karlsson isover 6 mill a year so this contract really has no impact
Considering he's their only healthy goalie as Montaya is just coming back from injury, he's not moving until deadline day unless someone gives Snow an offer he can't refuse.
does Garth Snow even have a horse that we can decapitate?
I was thinking the same thing when I saw "an offer he can't refuse", but I bet alot of the others are too young to know what we're talking about...sad eh?
NHL.com has us at 10th, behind the likes of #1 Rangers, #5 Nashville, #9 Pittsburgh.
younglings!!!!
on a side note - i wouldn't want us to give up anything at all to get a different back-up. Murray already made it clear that if Anderson got a lengthy injury Lenhner would be given the majority of his games.
we might be riding Anderson too hard (that's what she said) but whilst he's happy to get the games let's carry on. We are in a good enough position that starting Auld every so often isn't going to hurt us this much.
SENATORS LOOK FOR FIRST WIN IN LOS ANGELES IN OVER 12 YEARS
(Sports Network) - The Senators had a club-record road point streak halted over the weekend. Avoiding consecutive road losses could be problematic with a trip to Los Angeles now on the docket.
Ottawa looks to win at Los Angeles for the first time in over 12 years as they battle a Kings club that has been racking up points on its own.
Just negative vibes, they mention our 11 game winning streak but at every chance mention that is got snapped...
Tookie inspired me with his comment, "Regin (Fredo) is dead to me."
I couldn't resist a Godfather reference.
i saw that.
wait for June when the headline is sens win first cup since the great depression
no love for the sens from the TSN writers. TSN are only worth a damn due to Mackenzie, Dreger and Duthie.
Karlsson's agent has said himself that they'll be seeking a contract in the same range as Mike Green's 5.25 a yer. He won't get over 6.
Their copy writers are nothing but a bunch of overpaid clowns.....Spor tsnet is worse though, it's kind of like having to choose between Rogers and Bell....Both suck donkey balls but you gotta choose the lesser of 2 evils....
I love how they claim we haven't won in LA in 12 years....They'v e only played there 5 FUCKING TIMES....Now, granted, their record there is 0-4-1 but still, fuck off TSN, always trying to spin a hate story against the Senators....
Brennan actually got PAID (allegedly) to author a story on Alfie getting his hair cut in LA today. WTF. Nice stab at journalism buddy. Right on par with your 187 articles concerning the crappy old scoreboard.
But again, I know the Sens can win this game. No penalties and no turnovers= win.
GO SENS GO
Not me. I have the entire 'Godfather' trilogy.
younglings!!!!

What worries me is the year Anderson took the starting job in Colorado, they weren't expected to do much. He stood on his head in the regular season playing 71 games with 38 wins, 25 L's. Great season if you ask me, Colorado managed to sneak into the playoffs but suffered a 1st round exit 4 games to 2 vs San Jose. Anderson played all those games. It's situations like that, where I'd like to see Anderson get some rest before the playoffs start. True backup who can jump in and win games when needed. Auld has played well for Ottawa in the past, but with only 1 win this season, it's a little scary to say the least.
http://espn.go.com/nhl/
Big Z is on the far left... who is the guy standing next to him who seems taller? Or is that guy standing on chair?
Hell yes! Thats McQuaid and he's on a bench, the whole back row is except for those on the right side who looks like elected not to use it.
Otherwise the Bruins have a army of 8 footers!!!
Mr. O'Rourke.... so how many penalties will the Sens take tonight? How many PP's will they get? Will he look to 'payback' McLean for outing him?
Anyway.. for whatever reason.. Tim Thomas was not with the Bruins when they went to the White House today...no comment as to why.
I agree with the comments on TSN today... they try to make the Sens look as bad as they can... haven't won in LA for 11 yrs.... not once do they mention they only play there every 2 yrs... Also if you do notice on TV... so much time is spent on the Leafs.. like the nickname for Gardiner... and hardly any spent on the other Cdn teams. Why don't they just call themselves Leafs TV?
Since it's a little slower, I thought I'd mention how great Chirps Hockey Pool (SensChirp Hockey Two) has been. We don't get much talk here about it, but I wanted to say I'm pretty happy with how it's going. After selecting Perry with my 2nd overall, I was criticised heavily for it. I'll admit I had thoughts of moving him early on, but I'm happy I stuck wth him because he's slowly getting into form.
The reason I brought this up, has anyone tracked the performance of Chicago's call up Andrew Shaw? I just plugged him into my lineup, he's been stellar in his 10 games. Belleville native, another one of those shorter guys, who is never expected to excel at the NHL level due to his size. It's good to see players like that overcome the obstacles and show people you can make it, regardless of size.
The guy has one 40 point season under his belt and this year hes not even close.
If this is the bar being set for a puck-moving D of his calibre, then were in trouble with Karlsson.
Jesus...Murray should try to sign this kid before he realizes what hes worth.
So winning are last game in LA jan 11 2000 is 12 years ago so what's the problem why so angry ? It's not a spin it's a fact lol. Donkey
OR THAT THE GREAT DEPRESSION IS LOOMING BECAUSE THE SENS WON THE CUP!
That's true, but not accurate and it fits into no definition of news judgement. That fact that the Ottawa Senators haven't won in LA since 2000 is nowhere NEAR the most interesting or relavent thing about this game. It's a footnote at best.
Trust me, the writers over there enjoy sticking it to the Sens.
I'm also looking for a pair of tickets to any of the saturday sens games in march, hopefully early enough so the rideau can be skated on.
thanks.
Yes
I'm sure Petersson will play tomorrow in Phoenix
MAN IM EXCITED FOR TONIGHT'S GAME! NICKI POTTING ONE FOR SURE
GO SENS GO
I really hope Foligno stays on the second line. He's been so good and deserves it. I like BB16 reunited with Spezz too.
Was watching the Sens and Ducks game Sat aft at a local watering hole and the place was full of Sens fans glued to the TV. There was this one guy, looked like a trucker that just woke up from a comma still wearing his clothes from the 90s. Anyway, the guy was by himself cheering loud and proud everytime the Ducks touched the puck, and when the Ducks scored he cheered for the whole bar to hear. Drunk bastard wouldn't stop.
When the game was over he said "Yeah baby...thats what Im talking about. Now...we got 4 games in hand and only 9 points to go." - I had to stop and think about that comment. Then I grabbed a Ottawa Sun that was sitting on the bar counter and flipped to the standings. Yup...there it was like I suspected, the Leafs were 9 points below us and 4 games in hand. This moron was a Leafs cheering his heart for the ducks to beat our team.
I suddenly wasn't mad at the guy anymore...I actually felt a little sad for him. What a pathetic thing for a Leafs fan to do...judge the success of their team based on how they stack up against ONE other team in the league.
What the hell did Leaf fans do before the Sens were around?
Sad freaks...
McLean, totally revamps the line combinations of the forwards.
Hope we can see something from our 2 top lines, in getting the puck into the back of the net. Line of Michalek - Spezza - Butler, should give Butler some scoring chances.
GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!
Imagine how much more pathetic it would be if the Sens did not fall short in their Stanley Cup run? i think they were happier than the Ducks fans that we lost. sucks for them that they can only take pleasure when we don't succeed, given that their failures are a given.
had we won, they might have still said, "well, despite your Cup, you have never beaten us in the playoffs" which is true, but the Sens fan reply would of course then be "you have to make the playoffs every once in a while for that to even matter...."
I wonder how that poor chump felt later than evening when his beloved Leafs lost to the Habs... was he still cheering or passed out by then.
Haha it may be. That comment exchange kinda took on a life of its own. Who knows what woulda happened if I didn't request a chance of subject.
Yup. Went off for repairs. No word on his status beyond that.
Man I hope so.
Hopefully we can flip the script on these guys tonight and get the lead early and force them out of their comfort zone. If we fall behind early we may see the same outcome as the Anaheim game on saturday.
Go Sens Go!
Tickets for the event are all sold out.
Real pleasure to listen to.
Same goes for the commentators in San Jose. I was really impressed with their knowledge of Ottawa's system and how much credit they gave us! Was just about to write what you wrote.
Must be nice.. I'm stuck listening to these two knuckleheads Dean and Denis once again. I think I'm just going to start listening to the game on mute.
Sorry to hear that...unfortun ately, the opposing commentators are not always this good.
... he must have dived again i guess.. wtf?
Potvin drops his pills.... "Scram-BLE!"
you too Michalek
LOL
Oh, I don't know...played their butts off every shift like they have all year long! The puck isn't always going to go in my friend.
Really not impressed with the refs and am not pleased that they are the same ones as the Ducks game.
1 point (assist) in his last 5 for michalek, I cant see the stats past previous 5 games
He is too inconsistent
By the looks of it, he isn't gonna get much done in this game either
Im tired of hot cold first line guys hiding in the shadows most games
They keep playing well they'll score
Don't mean to sound like a broken record, too, but the refs have indeed been bad the past little while. Nothing to do with me being a biased Sens fan, but they havent for some reason not been calling those trips on Karlsson when its pretty clear that they are. Even the Kings commentators agreed that they were
You'd be hard pressed to find a hand full of players in the league that don't go through streaky stretches. The whole team has been playing way above expectations thus far. I have faith that Milo and Foligno will battle through this "tough" stretch and get their points. Let's be realistic though...
I actually thought they've played a decent road game so far. Some good scoring chances, I think Smithy hit the posts, good puck movement on the PP, and the breakouts for the most part have been clean.
I agree that the reffing has been brutal but I have to say that although they put on some good pressure, you can tell they weren't feeling it as they're rushing their passes and gripping their sticks a bit. I thought Turris was by far our best player in the first.
What else is new. He's our best all-round player almost every night.
During our only PP so far, KT7 took total control in the offensive zone and reminded me of Spezza's dominant PP work on a good night! Loved watching his quick decision making and poise!
haha yeah but I don't think we'll ever catch Turris forcing passes through the box or throwing blind passes to the point on the PP like Spezz
Agreed. Plays a high tempo, crash and bang game. Always hungry for the puck. Love the kid.
Amazing.
Yah, that's why I said, "Spezza on a good night"! haha
and michalek is on fire as usual.. 4 goals already this game , what a natural goal scorer
bahah
I gotta say though, Turris sometimes has a tough time staying up on his skates.
It seems like teams have caught on to us and are taking away our strengths.
go figure
ok, now this is just getting really frustrating. Not our night so far.
pick it up boys!
call
ever
Dude. You're an idiot. Clearly a bad call by the refs as SHOWN on the replay.
Think before you type.
serious!!! yawnzz...you are really annoying tonight!
at this rate, sens might be better off buying out all the refs in the league.
...and that is the problem. Speak up against the refs incompetence and they will ratchet up the calls as payback. It seems that they really don't give a shit what people think of them. The arrogance is incredible.
Damn! If made that many mistakes at work and did not take any responsibility for them, I would get fired.
As long as it doesn't become a bidding war. Not sure what Carolina is looking for in terms of prospects, but I wouldn't want to sell the farm..
What do you think is a fair asking price? Lee and a 3rd? Don't we have 2 this year from the fisher trade?
1.Ryan Smyth
2.Eric Fehr
3.Brenden Morrow
4.Taylor Pyatt
5.Chris Stewart
This game is effin ridiculous. Who's reffing this game? Helen Keller and Ray Charles? Jeeeeeeeeeeeesu s Christ, at least they got one call right!
On a positive note, I hope Auld gets the shutout!!!
To me, the principal of a makeup call just proves the type of quality of the refeering. Means they get shit wrong.
Stheevie Wonder ith a muthical geniuss!
A win tmrw against a poor Pheonix team is in reach.
No professional integrity...
Better win tomorrow because we're going to lose in Boston
I'll be thoroughly surprised if tomorrow is better.. How can you be expected to recover from this on back to back nights?
It is obvious they have a bias against Karlsson and will not call any penalties for any infractions on him. To me, that says the game is not being called fairly... more of a cheat... eh refs?
