  • Game Day- Pittsburgh @ Ottawa Game 4

Every game the Sens play from here on out could appropriately be labelled the biggest game of their season.

The Ottawa Senators look to build off an electrifying win on Sunday night as they play Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. After a two day break, the Senators will be looking to use a raucous crowd at Scotiabank Place to draw even before heading back to Pittsburgh for Game 5 on Friday night.

Back At It

After a hectic couple of days away from the site, it's time to get back on track and look at the week that lies ahead for our Ottawa Senators.

The Sens are back on the ice today for a 3:00PM skate at the Bell Sensplex and return to game action when they host to the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow night at Scotiabank Place.

Heading into post holiday action, the Sens sit 8th in the ridiculously tight Eastern Conference Standings.  Ottawa is two points clear of the 9th place Winnipeg Jets and have a three point buffer over the Washington Capitals who are holding down the 10th spot.

Both those teams have games in hand on the Sens.

After tomorrow's tilt with the Habs, the Sens will have another couple days off before weekend games with the Flames and the Sabres to close out the 2011 schedule.  Ottawa has done a great job staying in the thick of things in the East but obviously have no room for error with the standings as close as they are.

Tomorrow will be a fun night at SBP as the new Bell HD scoreboard will make its debut.  Crews have been working hard over the break to get the thing put together so it will be exciting to see it for the first time.

Paul MacLean's group will also get a boost from the return of Milan Michalek.

Prior to the break, Michalek passed all his baseline tests and has been cleared to return. Michalek was leading the league in goals when he was knocked out of the line up and is just two back heading into tomorrow night.

Christmas may be over but another holiday tradition is just getting started.  The yearly World Junior Tournament kicks off for Canada today and Sens prospect Mark Stone figures to be a huge part of that team.  Mika Zibanejad and Fredrik Claesson will suit up for Team Sweden and Jakub Culek for Team Czech Republic.

Canada open's the round robin at 3:00 PM against Team Finland.

Game on Tuesday the 27th vs the Habs should be a challenging one for the 2 teams. Montreal has lost it's last 4 games, and our Sens have won 4 of their last 6 !

Should be interesting to see if MacLean juggles his lineup,
with the return of Michalek.

We could see Greening - Spezza - Michalek, with Alfredsson on Line 2 : Folignp - Turris - Alfredsson.

Or we could have Foligno - Spezza - Alfredsson, and then,
Greening - Turris - Michalek

If I'm MacLean, with great chemistry between Spezza- Alfredsson, Greening or Foligno can switch , but I would leave Alfredsson with Spezza, to be more of an offensive threat !!

With Michalek returning, all the lines will change !!

Would sit Carkner, and insert Lee as Phillips partner.

GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only that it's fun but difficult to try and predict what the Sens roster will look like three years from now. Alfie could pull a Selanne and still be playing. The better the team gets around him the more he'll want to keep going and try for that elusive Stanley Cup.

i was just at SBP an hour ago tried to go buy some tickets at the boxoffice, then i went into the sens store. and if youve ever been inside, if you go to the far left metal wall/cage, if you look through the small holes, you can see inside the arena, and i got to see the big lit up scoreboard sitting there being built, im very excited to see it tomorrow !

Yeah just curious as to why yourself and many others have Puempel as Spezza's 1st line winger? He was a late draft and the last of 3 1st rounders. With that said, I also had him on the first line as well. Spezza's got almost a decade over him but at the age of 30 he'll still be a force. If they can develop with Noesen I'd like to see those 2 with Spezza in the future. I hope for Puempel & Noesen's sake that they go through the entire procedure, much like Eberle did. Went back to juniors 2 more years after being drafted and look at the player he turned out to be. By 20 they should be ready.

Probably a little too soon for some of those players like Puempel and Noesen they will just be getting into the league at that time maybe

My Christmas story. I am/was a Hartford Whaler fan, a true devotee of the game. When the Whalers left our state in 1997, I gave up on the NHL and did not watch more than 2 minutes of a game (on TV) for more than 10 years. You may call me silly, but that is what happens when your heart is broken. Recently, I decided to give the NHL a chance again. So in 2009, I tried to decide which team I would follow. First and formost, screw the Bruins. I have hated the Bruins since I was old enough to see their fat drunken fans get the stuff kicked out of them by the Hartford PD at the Civic Center. Hate the Bruins. Also hate the Rangers and the Islanders. And any other team with which the Whalers had a rivalry .Sorry. So, to make a long story short, I started following the Sens (from here in Central CT USA). I eventually let this news spread to my family and friends.
Thanks to my father in law Ron, I will be rooting the Sens on at Boston on January 31. Thanks for this site and GO SENS.

The Ottawa Senators' fifth-round pick went to the San Jose Sharks as the result of a trade on September 12, 2009 that sent Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo and a second-round pick in 2010 to Ottawa in exchange for Dany Heatley and this pick.

Posted this before but isnt this insane if stone can bring this type of play to the nhl.

Turns out in the end san jose was the one who got fleeced. :D

Stone, Zibanejad and silfvergerg on the team next year. Its an exciting time to be a sens fan.

not to spoil the party but mark stone was a 6th rounder not a 5th.
The Ottawa Senators receive the San Jose Sharks 2010 6th round pick (via Dallas) for Alex Auld. Dallas acquired the pick from San Jose for a 2009 7th round pick.

if stats indicate anything for da costa, its consistancy so far. he has 12poitns in 12 games now but i have only watched maybe 2 or 3 bingo games, hope someone that gets to watch them more can tell us how is he doing defencvily? and is he still being easily pushed off the puck.

and yes i watched the sweden game and forsberg is also just great to watch

He has improved on his skating for sure, but still when you watched him today, he was not strong on his feet he was more of park himself in the slot guy not the I am going to skate around you and roof the puck in the net. Stone plays a simular game to Dany Heatley he likes to park himself in the scoring areas and let it rip

Well you can never have enough good, young centers. Also, would be tough for a young dman with Karlsson, Cowen, Lee, Wiercioch, Gryba, Borowiecki (plus Phillips and Gonchar).

Don't get why people are including Carkner past this year though. Love the guy, but he's a UFA after this season so I'm pretty sure we'll look to deal him at the deadline to some team looking for toughness/depth . He's not part of the rebuild.

Also assume that Konopka will get dealt to some team looking for grit and faceoff help. Winchester too assuming he's healthy.
