52 die hard Sens fans packed on to a coach bus and made the trip down to Binghamton for Game 5 of the Calder Cup Final. I believe it took approximately 6 minutes before the first Go Sens Go chant started and the fun lasted the whole way down.
The game itself was unbelievable. Can't say enough good things about the fans down in Bingo and about their loyalty and passion for their hockey team. Binghamton now sits just one win shy of a championship that will mean the world to that city.
Swept up in the excitement of the victory, I made a last minute change of plans and decided to spend the night in Binghamton. As I watched the BingoBus pull out of site, I was certainly having doubts but now that I have made it home safe and sound, I'm glad I stayed. Accompanied by what felt like the entire city of Binghamton, we took the post-game festivities to a bar called Dillingers.
The cheers continued well into the night and only increased when a number of the Binghamton Senators players showed up at the bar. Colin Greening, Kaspars Daugavins, Erik Condra, Jim O'Brien among others stopped by to celebrate with their fans. Had a lengthy conversation with BSens play by play guy Grady Whittenberg about exactly how much the win meant to the city. Grady really is one of the best play by play guys going and he has done a great job during these playoffs.
The trip back today was fairly uneventful. The bus home from Syracuse was completely empty with the exception of the three of us that stayed behind. I think we looked fairly suspicious at the border because we were all asked to get off the bus while the K9 searched each of us. I guess the sight of a greyhound with three people on board and no luggage looked fairly odd.
Anyway, I think it's safe to say the trip was a resounding success. Thanks again to Steve and Michael from the Red Scarf Union and Mike from the Sens organization for all their help putting this together and thanks to all the people that came along. I think we have an annual tradition on our hands!
Quick side note. Apparently there are some issues with the site for IPhone users. I have let the web guy know and we will have it fixed as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.
