  • Thank You

Without overstating it, this really was the best season I have had as a fan of the Ottawa Senators.

And while many fans will quickly default to the Stanley Cup run, there was just something about this team that made this lockout shortened season extra special. Cheering for and blogging about the underdog Ottawa Senators team was the most thrilling, unexpected, delightful experience I've had as a sports fan.

Binghamton/Houston in Calder Cup Final

A furious rally by the Hamilton Bulldogs fell short in Game 7 and the Houston Aeros prevailed in the Western Conference finals. The Aeros will now face the Binghamton Senators in a series that will get started on Friday night in Houston.

The complete schedule can be found below.

Game 1- Friday, May 27 @Houston

Game 2- Saturday, May 28 @Houston

Game 3- Wednesday, June 1 @Bingo

Game 4- Friday, June 3 @Bingo

Game 5-Saturday, June 4 @Bingo

Game 6- Tuesday, June 7 @Houston

Game 7- Thursday, June 9 @Houston

There was some talk among organizers about the possibility of a road trip to Hamilton but unfortunately that is no longer an option. The good news is the BSens will host Game 4 and 5 on Friday and Saturday night in Binghamton.

Sounds like a great time for a road trip!

For people that signed up for the last roadie and did not request a refund, you will have the details of the next road trip emailed to you in the near future. For those that have yet to sign up, stay tuned to the website tomorrow for all the info you need to get registered for Road Trip to the Calder Cup Finals!

GO BSENS GO!

I certainly hope that means he will be behind Ottawa's bench.

Bad to say this.. but I'm hoping Mississauga loses the Memorial Cup... that way Cameron may not be looked at in way of Sens next coach.

It's too bad that Hamilton didn't win but I'm not complaining. How about a roadie to Houston? Just kidding.

I think KK should stay in Bingo and help groom our prospects. I'm not sure if the guys in Bingo like KK, but they sure are responding to him.

On another note... Canucks won! Woo!

Lehner needs 2-3 years full time at the ahl to hone his skills. Positioning, adjustments, rebound control and spotting the puck. He has much work to do at those skills before he should even be at the nhl.

DONT RUSH LEHNER. I know you're getting goosebumps with his stats, but he isnt close to ready yet. he needs a ton of games at the ahl level and to really work on the details of his game.

The best thing that can happen is that Lehner spends the entire year in Bingo. It will be better for his development and it will mean that Anderson is playing well.

Ahhh yes, as much I dislike Vancouver, I have to say I'm happy that ass clown Heatley is gone. Sharks fans must be steaming about this guy by now, had his worse season since his last one he played in Atlanta (80GP, 26G 38A 64Pts), and this playoffs he was nowhere to be found, again: 18GP, 3G 6A 9PTS -2

For a guy that's playing with the likes of Marleau, Thorton, Pavelski, Boyle, etc. he should be producing like crazy, especially with a $7M/year cap hit. Hindsight is 20/20 but I'm glad we no longer have Danny the Douchebag....

One of the rumours about his actual departure must have been true...

I said it before and I'll say it again, Heatley is not a good playoff performer. You have to battle for every inch of ice in the playoff and he doesn't have the balls to do it. He did actually show up last night but overall he looked the same when he was in the playoffs with the Sens. No grudges against Heatley because he wasn't a playoff warrior. He's a perfect fit for SJ!

Just read this .... Today is such a great day!

Dany Heatley. Again. If the Sharks come back to win this series, it's because Heatley woke up and started contributing. If they're eliminated, it's because Heatley never showed up in the conference finals. He has just one assist in four games against the Canucks and hasn't scored a playoff goal since May 6.

Said one NHL source: "It's time to stop calling him a 50-goal scorer." It's a fair point since Heatley's playoff scoring issues extend well beyond this season. He has five goals in his last 35 playoff games, dating back to the 2008 poseason with Ottawa. By comparison, rookie linemate Logan Couture has seven goals in this postseason alone.

"It's up to us to sit with Dany, work with him a little bit, try to find a way to put him in successful situations," McLellan said. “Then again, ultimately he has to find a way to do that and produce."

KK and CC should not be put in the same sentence together. There is no comparison. KK is exactly the type of coach that ottawa players need right now (not saying KK is the guy, but that type). CC is exactly the type of coach that ottawa should not want anything to do with.
Whatever it takes to keep KK around is what needs to be done imo. If he is not hired now (which may or may not be a yr too early), he might be gone to another team next yr and this organization simply cannot let him leave.

ChristineT,
Ideally that would be great. The reality is that if you hire an experienced coach for ottawa and he works out well (the plan), then KK would be stuck in bingo for the next 2,3,or 4 years. He will get multiple offers from nhl clubs and eventually will be gone. If you watch him interact with the players and the media you will see an obvious difference between him and CC. KK is possibly the smartest on-ice hockey guy in the organization right now. He NEEDS to stick around. If he says he wants to stay in bingo for a couple more yrs, great, but if there's a chance he might take an offer from somewhere else, give him the ottawa job. It's really not that much of a risk because he has most of the characteristics that ottawa should be looking for.

You make great points. It would be a shame to hire an experienced NHL coach only to lose KK to another NHL team. For all we know, he could have the success that Boucher has in TB (but I also attribute their success to Stevie Y). I just think that KK would be more helpful to the Sens organization if he stays in Bingo and grooms our prospects.

Although I want the Sens to bounce back like every other Sens fan, I just don't think we will be able to. I feel like it'll be a waste of talent (referring to KK). But if BM does hire KK, I'll welcome him with open arms.

The Sens are rumoured to be taking a gamble on Cameron. Personally, I think the 'gamble' on Kleinendorst is not as risky as the one on Cameron.

Kleinendorst previous coached the Lowell Devils for 3 yrs I believe. He has won the U18 tournament with Team USA. He also was an assistant coach with the NJ Devils under Larry Robinson.

Just noticed, he signed a 2 yr contract with Ottawa to coach the B-Sens. If he does not come to Ottawa as a coach, I see him gone to another organization after next season, especially if he wins the Calder Cup this year.

AMEN to that.

He actually showed up (so to speak) last night for his first playoff game.
The Sens are lucky to be rid of him. His skating is so bad. If he was a dedicated hockey player, you would think he would spend a lot of his off-season trying to improve his skating to better help his team.
Spezza did that his last 2 off-seasons and he has shown improvement.

I was stoked to see Houston advanced after thinking they were done after having a 3-0 series lead and allow for Hamilton to come back 3-3 and go to a game 7.

Presents the opportunity to cheer on the BSENS in Houston since I live in Austin.

Looking forward to seeing the team but most notably Butler, Cowen and Lehner.
