  • Game Day- A Must Win

Win or go home.  It’s that simple.  As for the first time this season, the Ottawa Senators find themselves in a true “must win” game.

After a disappointing effort in Game 4 at Scotiabank Place, the Sens look to extend their season in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semi-final with the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Nobody is giving this team a chance after an ugly loss on Wednesday night and the Pesky Sens wouldn’t have it any other way.

Bingo Strikes First- New Logo Preview?

If you were late tuning into Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final between the Binghamton Senators and the Charlotte Checkers you certainly would have missed a lot. It was a sloppy opening period that saw the team's combine for seven goals and Bingo held a 4-3 lead through twenty.

It was a lead they would never relinquish, on route to a 7-4 win in Game 1.

It certainly wasn't the start that Robin Lehner was hoping for as he was lifted in favour of Barry Brust after the opening frame.  Brust played well in relief but Kurt Kleinendorst indicated he will go back to Lehner in Game 2 tonight.

The BSens offence was just too much in this one as they got goals from seven different players including Locke, Daugavins, Benoit, Butler, Wick, Condra and Potulny. It's that kind of scoring depth that is making Bingo an extremely difficult team to play against in these playoff.

Binghamton has now won seven straight on the road in the Calder Cup playoffs. Game 2 of that series goes tonight in Charlotte.

  • I passed this along on Twitter last night but I thought I would share it here too. I don't know if this is legit or not but here is a preview of the crest that will appear on the Sens new uniform next season. Seems as though this would be the patch that appears on the shoulder of the jersey. What do you think?

Some saying on Twitter that it may not be the real thing. I saw a sweater recently that had that shield but with a year inside rather than the old logo.

If you compare the logo in that pic to the 'Preview' pics that have been circulating (the ones from that power point presentation) you can see that the Ottawa in the shield is much bigger and takes up more space... Not saying it wont look like this one, but it's definitly not the official logo/dimensions .

Logo looks good as long as you're right about it being the shoulder patch and not the main logo in the front of the jersey.

Nice job by the B-sens last night. When the NHL season ended and there was all this talk of going on a long AHL playoff run, I wasn't completely buying it, but the grit and determination of these players is really refreshing to see.

Probably because it was! Look at the "TM" -there's some weird line beside the M. Something like that shouldn't appear on an official logo. Also the lines in it aren't very sharp, very unprofessional looking. If Chris at icethetics.info hasn't released it, then I don't buy it! And Chirp, Chris would also likely be the first to get his hands on a pic of the new jersey if it leaks.

Yeah it seems weird to me that a Sharks blogger would somehow magically get the logo first. And more to the point, even care if it's posted. Seems like he's fishing for hits with that one, which is weird cause I don't think Shars/Sens fans would care either way....

amen to everything you just said. I think it looks sloppy because of two things. The first is a poor font choice - need a classy one. The second is the left/top half. The bottom/right looks goo because of the red outline, which gets lost on the other side.

I've done logo's in the past and have a good majority of friends still in the design business, this doesn't look professional. The overall idea is good, but the lines are jagged and the font for Ottawa itself is crap. If it's a beginner concept, that's fine. But most logo's these days are done in flash and the designers will use a newer font type.

B-Sens did a great job last night. Considering Charlotte had 10 goals against in ALL of the games in the last series against WBS -- then 7 goals for the B-Sens in 1 game was a great accomplishment.
Hoping for another good game from Lehner tonight.

Also Chirp, apparently Darren Dreger (aka another Sens hater) said Kirk Muller has permission and is in discussions with 4 NHL teams. I assume something like Ottawa, NJ, Dallas, Florida. Have you heard anything about this?

It's great to see the young guys perform like this. Watching Butler in those games is very satisfying! He can rip it hard that's for sure and his confidence is very high right now. Awesome stuff! A few years of experience in the NHL and I see him becoming a legit 30-40 goal scorer.

Only 29 guys this year scored over 30 goals, saying Butler would hit that is a stretch but we haven't seen a full season from him yet. The playoff experience those guys are getting in Bingo right now is huge as well, they get the experience of playing into the early summer, and if we want to actually go somewhere in the playoffs at some point, it's a big help to have played a long season before. If the future keeps getting brighter, I think I'm gonna need shades haha

Totally agree. Remember last summer when chirp ran something where we would list all the 20 goal scoreres for the upcoming season?

I think everyone had like 6 guys, including Regin/Foligno etc.

Let's hope Bobbo Butler gets 20, anything after that is pure bonus.

I'm banking on 3 hopefully 4 20 goal scorers for next year..
Spezz, Bulter,UFA, Foligno? (This year will be Nicky's year!)

We can't expect Butler to pot 30 goals in his 1st full NHL season. It may take a few years... it may not happen.

BUT if he gets time with Spezza as his centre, as we saw down the stretch -- you never know.

First quote - right on. Everyone's excited that Butler looks like a legit goalscorer, but if you think he'll get 40 next season, you are delusional.

Second quote - ever notice how these "so-and-so 2.0" posts (I think it's usually the same guy) are the completely off base? Butler and McEachern are not in the same mold. They don't play similar style games at all and I just can't figure out where the comparison comes from.

Not sure why everyone has to be a version of an old Senator either, but I you're looking for a comparison for Shawn McE, why wouldn't you AT MINIMUM pick someone whose main attributes are speed down the wing and 2nd line playmaking? Butler is more of a finisher.

As for Butler getting 30-40.. not completly out of the question if he's playing a full season with Spezza(70 assists), but I doubt it will happen next season. and 40? that might happen once in his entire carreer.

I obviously hope I'm wrong and he turns into correy perry type scorer... but lets just keep things real for now.

If the Sens get 20-25 out of Butler every year they should be very happy with that. He's got the skill but he's still got to get bigger and stronger. Just hope he can keep his speed when he puts on the strength. Not to mention learning how to play on the defensive side of the puck.

Murray has only been GM since 2007/08. So it took him 4 yrs to build up the prospects again.
Binghamton suffered a lot under Muckler as he ignored the prospect system which affected both Bingo & Ottawa.
Let's hope Bingo's success soon also translates to Ottawa's success as well.

the new logo is crap, just my opinion.

I am a Butler 20-25 goals a year but you never know, could be 30 playing with Spezza.
If Spezza stays healthy 30 or more is reasonable the way he is playing (fired up)

for the record I thought we would have had more 20 goal scorers this past season, clearly no players were finding the back of the net the first part of the season, Karlsson leading in scoring for a bit and in points is sad being he is a D-man
I would take a shot at guessing who is going to be over 20 but I don't know yet who is going to be on or off the team.

Spezza
Butler
Michalek

That's it. I would put Alfredsson there, but depending on whether he's healthy by the start of the season or not, and if the surgery affects him permanently.

Spezza is definitely going to have 20 goals in a full season, and Michalek is expected to crack 20. Butler will hopefully get 20, but I guess we'll see.
Quote

0 #64 JYT 2011-05-14 19:22
However, I think we will have quite a few 10 goal scorers.

Karlsson, Foligno, Alfredsson, Regin, Z Smith, Greening, and Condra, depending on who makes the team and whether or not they play a full season (and I guess depending on who the coach is) could definitely all get 10 goals.
Quote

0 #65 Floridasensfan 2011-05-14 20:14
If Rundblad is as good as people say he could be in the 10 range.

Spezza 25
Alfie 15
Butler 20
Karlsson 10
Rundblad 8
Cowan 3
Phillips 3
I expect we will sign a 25-30 goal scorer and Michalek might be part of that trade, if not 20 for Michalek
These are the only locks I see for next year.
The others I agree 10 or there abouts is possible.

I just don't see the point in trading Michalek.

He's got so much value. He's a 26 year old top 6 scorer who can put up 25 goals, plays a decent two way game, ridiculously fast; if he can stay healthy he's one of the team's leading scorers.

I just think he needs the right centre to play beside because him and Spezza didn't work out imo.

If he can stay healthy I think he's the exact 2nd line LW the Sens need. We have to refrain from living on fantasy island and stop being too picky. Look around the league; there are really only a handful of prolific 2nd line LW. This guy is good.
Quote

0 #68 McLovin 2011-05-15 10:58
I'd argue that right now Michalek has little to no value (as a trade piece)-injuries , his salary and his poor point production
Quote

0 #69 conor smythe 2011-05-15 11:34
@mclovin

I dunno, 4 shorthanded goals, 18G in 66Gp, and a career shooting % of 12%, not to mention he's entering his prime. I'd say we can get reasonable value out of him.

his cap hit is a little high considering his past 2 years point totals, but whats really going to bring his value down is the 'real dollars' numbers of his contract. 6 mil for his final season.

I think if we can sweeten the deal with a redundant youngster we should get fair value in return.

Anybody else think Foligno is going to have a Hossa of an off-season and come back 15lbs heavier, pure muscle? I kind of liked having him as 2nd line centre, and if he gets stronger/we end up signing an FA winger, it might be the only spot left for him in the top 6.
