  • Game Day- Pittsburgh @ Ottawa Game 3

After dropping the first two games of the series in Pittsburgh, the Ottawa Senators return to Scotiabank Place for the biggest game of their season.

In Game 1 they looked overwhelmed, in Game 2 they showed they can play with this Pittsburgh team. Now they hope the lift of playing in front of their home town crowd will be enough to get them back in their Eastern Conference Semifinal match up.

It's Friday, Friday

The Ottawa Senators coach has been officially underway since the moment they announced Cory Clouston would not return behind the bench. With that said, things are really expected to ramp up beginning early next week.

According to a couple different sources, one name you can apparently cross off the list is that of Pete DeBoer.

Considered to be a lead candidate last time around, DeBoer opted for the Florida job and I get the sense there are still some hard feelings over that decision. There has been plenty of talk among media and in the blogosphere but I can only go off what I have been told; the Sens next head coach will not be Pete DeBoer.

  • Every Sens representative at the World Championships has moved on to the qualification round. Spezza and the rest of Team Canada take on the Americans at 10:00 AM this morning.
  • Top prospect Jared Cowen will be in the line up tonight when the BSens take on Portland in Game 6 of their series. Lehner was pulled from the last game but I would expect he gets the start tonight. Here's hoping the Sens can close that series out with a win tonight and we can start planning another bus trip to Bingo.
  • A quick update on the site design. Still working on a few tweaks and exploring the possibility of some bigger changes which could include a new layout (full blog on the home page) and a new colour scheme
  • Thanks to some shrewd Tampa Bay Lightning selections, HarryP has jumped out to the lead in the SensChirp pool. He's in good shape heading into the conference finals but pickmathieuchouinard isn't far behind. Hope to have a prize in place at some point next week.
  • The NHL Entry Draft is now just over a month away. Spoke with a quality source recently who insisted that a trade up to grab Gabriel Landeskog is a definite possibility on draft day.

I'm not sure if it is just my settings, but the caption at the top of the blog always shows up in very pale, light grey. It makes it impossible for me to read the first few lines. Any chance you could look into that if it is a shared problem? Thanks

What do you mean by the caption? Just the first few lines of the post? What browser are you using?

I'm actually considering a complete overhaul of the colour scheme. I think the light font on dark background phase of SensChirp may have run its course.

I'm using IE 8. What I mean by caption is the first couple paragraphs which are used on the home page and then repeated at the top of the full blog. In this case, from the first line up until "cross off the list is that of Pete DeBoer".

It shows up in a pale grey which is almost the same colour as the background. I have this issue at work and at home. Thanks

Does it make a difference if it's bolded text like it is now?

Definitely a little easier to read. I usually just highlight the text to make it clearer. I could always send you a screen cap to show you what I mean, but it seems like it isn't a common problem so don't worry too much about it. Thanks

Is there any news about what we would be giving up to move up on draft day? I'm not convinced that it'll be worth it to get Landeskog, and I've wanted to draft him since Day 1 but I don't think it'd be worth giving up the Nashville pick...

On a different note, Canada is currently tied with USA at the Worlds and it figures that two Leafs would be partially responsible for our goals against and lack of goals for. Reimer let in a shot that I think I could have saved and Phaneuf has fanned on about 3 shots now on the powerplays.

Canada should have known better than to invite Leafs to the tourney.

Spezza is playing a great game and is now between Nash and Neal.

Canada wins in a shootout with Reimer stopping two and Eberle and Nash scoring. Man oh man, is Eberle the goto guy in a pressure situation or what. This guy seems to be able to deliver no matter what the situation.

Ty Conklin with the MVP for USA and Jason Spezza (believe me, he deserved it) for Canada.

Chirp, your buddy Yost reported on that site we will not name, that Buffalo is interested in Nick Foligno?

Do you think the Sens would consider that? That's within the division. But he was throwing out scenarios that would try to get the Sens another 1st round pick.. by given Buffalo Foligno and the Sens 2nd rounder... that would give the Sens 3 first round picks.

Any comments guys?

I think that trading Foligno now would be nothing short of stupid -
EVEN for a first rounder. It's not like Buffalo has a top 5 anyway.

People need to remember Nick is still very young. His skillset is great and while he's not a natural top-liner, he could be a 20 goal scorer who goes to all the dirty places and is constantly driving the net.

Him and Michalek are the closes things to power forwards we have. We need to keep those Types of players.

Have some patience wth Foligno - the grass is not always greener.

I see real, tangible comparisons of Foligno with Kesler, except Foligno clearly doesn't have he same goal-scoring prowess. Still, if you find a 'complete package', makes sense to retainthem, especially young and cheap.

Wondering - are there a lot of fans here who think Foligno will bust, ie NOT break out?

I would guess there are very few.

I think they would only trade Folingo for a first if it allows them to trade up for a top two pick and still have two first rounders.

If that doesn't happen then I really don't think it will happen. I do see Buffalo wanting him though. He's there kinda cheap power forward and would be playin with his brother.

I could see them trade folingo and their first for a guy like Tyler Innes though. Most likely not going to happen though.

Gonchar Lee

Not bad for a rebuilding year... get rid of Kuba and sign a center.

I sure hope Foligno is only traded if we are getting a surefire 1st line player back (obviously more would be involved in the deal on our end). At worst he can be a 2nd line player in a rebuilding year and he still has so much potential. He does so much right, just needs to improve his goal scoring. That often happens for a lot of players later into their 20s.

this kid turned down the chance to play for team usa in order to fully commit to offseason training stating he owes it to the senators to make the most of his offseason

I'd be on the fence if we traded Foligno, his stock currently is extremely low (even though he had a career year points wise) He's someone who has always left me wanting more. That said he's still very young and I think has a lot of potential.

If they're available I'd be happy with Gerbe or Boyes in a trade involving Foligno, if not I say keep him.

Turning down the worlds was a HUGE mistake on Foligno's part, do you really think he wil get more done staying in Ottawa training rather than being on the big stage as a big minute player for the States at the Worlds, come on Andrew, I thought you had more sens than that.

Turning down an offer to play for your country shows me he is not confident and does not want to be on the big stage. I think most if not all fans are dissapointed in him, hell even HE is dissapointed in himself.

You can easily benefit you fitness more with hard summer training than playing more games. I think you put too much value in the experience.

I'd say it's better for Spezza because he's learning new roles.

Imagine a fitter faster stronger Foligno making all those drives to the net.

I'm glad he's serious about training and didn't go. It would be fine if he wanted to also.

Foligno is also getting married in July.. and I think that was another of his reasons for turning down the invitation to play in the Worlds.

I really hope they don't trade him anywhere. Maybe the Sens should trade for Marcus. LOL Now that trade I would do in a second... but Buffalo would not.

foligno doesen't need to be much faster and stronger, he's good right now. He needs good soft hands and the scoring touch to finish, the only benefit for him in fitness training is to stick handle dozens of eggs until they don't break.

fitness can't help foligno's hands and scoring touch.some guys work out too much, their hands get too strong and they loose the touch they once had.

People have to realize that Nick Foligno was our former first round pick. He was chosen first round for a reason.

I like Foligno, and although he didn't break out this past season like he was hyped to, he will still turn into a good player; better than what he is right now.

A LOT of players take literally years to find their touch [Kesler, Lucic, Berglund are similar players] but eventually they break out and play great.

Hopefully Foligno can find his and score more goals next season. He has the ability though no doubt.

Highly doubt they would trade him. Same goes for Regin, who I think has one of the highest talent ceilings on the team.

Ok.

Lehner has respect. He was not booed in the last home game. THE SCENARIO WAS! The team was awful. Yes, he was not good, but is was a collective effort to not succeed.

Barry over acheived down here this year. For someone who was slated to be in Elmira he went above and beyond and without we would not be having this conversation. Folks the whole Lehner was booed and hated down here was blown way out of proportion. 2 games to my knowledge and I was at all of them.

At the end of the day WINNING is what that matters! Barry got us here, ROBIN is taking us from here! Accept it!
I want you all down here for the CONFERENCE FINALS!!!!
