Sens owner Eugene Melnyk is scheduled to meet with the media this morning in Ottawa. The media availability is scheduled for 10:00 AM. There is some uncertainty about what Melnyk has planned for this morning but he did indicate that he would be speaking with Bryan Murray AFTER the morning skate.
Stay tuned for updates.
That is also my hunch. But in that case, why do it before he speaks with Murray? Unless they met earlier than planned.
Eugene was at the game last night - I'm sure they've talked. The more I think about it the more I'm thinking the 10:00am is to announce Tim Murray is the new GM - makes sense - sends a message to players before they head home for off season that there is clear direction and BM will feel good about the move and support it 100%
Our current GM is not getting any younger, but he will remain as Special Advisor to Tim the New GM.
As far as the Head Coach, I suspect that Cory Clouston
will become an Assistant Coach, to a New Head Coach who has
NHL experience. Candidates might be Kirk Muller, Larry Robinson, Bob Hartley, or another well known NHL ex-coach !
...New Coach ..Kirk Muller
the more Eugene "talks" the less respect I have for him. I think he likes his beer ;)
Fair enough.
i missed what he said over the past couple of days tho... apparently he insinuated something bad about some players? What was all that about?
I have a lot of respect for that.
I respect that as well but he really shouldn't be making statements like that.
Regardless, Mike is my fav player and I wouldn't want to see him anywhere else, other than Ottawa, than Nashville, so my respect for Melynk has risen.
For now.
Just a matter of time.
The only thing is Cameron won't be available until June because of the Memorial Cup.
So if Melynk wants Cameron as coach, we have CC until at least mid-June.
this was a classy move by melnyk in my opinion.
As of tomorrow at @ 4:30 we won't need a coach until the fall - who cares if Cameron isn't available until June? Clouston packs up his locker Sunday just like the players - THE SEASON IS OFFICIALLY OVER FOR THE 2010/11 EDITION OF THE OTTAWA SENATORS
Did Butler solidify his spot on the RW next season or what last night? I look forward to a 30 goal season with Butler on Spezza's wing.
There is no doubt it was the right thing to do. He just shouldn't be announcing that they could have got more.
we don't need a coach after tomorrow for a little while cloutson will be shoved out the door after the team returns from boston.
MArk it does matter, the Coach still participates int he off season program, meetings with staff and scouting dept.
The season is over for the players, not the coach...
Maybe we could've gotten more, but at what cost? a division rival?? this was the fit good for everybody.
I dont think a mention of a better return for Fisher ia a bad thing.
I know Murray also mentioned it prior as well...
As long as it isn't brought up again, like they are patting themselves on the back.
If plan next yr is indeed to sign an FA fwd, the treatment of players wld certainly help to make OTT a more attractive org for a free-agent to sign with.
The Fisher trade and the Phillips re-signing go a long way to reinforce that Ottawa is committed treating their players well (esp. those who have committed and contributed to OTT, both at the arena and outside hockey).
It is also great to hear guys like Anderson (post-game int. ww Friedman last night) and Da Costa refer to the warm welcomes and great treatment they received upon arriving in Ottawa as well.
...After the HATEly fiasco, him wanting out publicly without explanation, a certain amount of reparation is required to re-build the reputation of the SENS org.
I believe these are all small steps in the right direction...
Look at it this way: Muckler offered equal contracts to Redden and Chara. Chara left supposedly because he didn't like how Muckler treated Hossa with the sign and trade deal that he made. (Not confirmed, but I read that somewhere)
If players get a mutual respect from the GM and aren't just treated as pawns in a game I feel like it creates a more positive environment that a player would want to sign into.
Just a thought..
Fundraising and Community functions don't win you Stanley Cups its all about "Winning" putting the best product on the ICE .. Were's the loyalty to the fans who pay money too go to watch there team ..How do you have confidence in this team when you cant trust they are making the right decisions ??
I see no problem with the Fisher comment, it kind of says to all the FAs out there, that we'll treat you right if you so the same to us. Can't see that not being a positive for any team.
I dont give a shit what the player does off the ice, I pay to go see a great product on the ice. Charities dont win you Cups.
so you think what was siad was worthy of a press conference? give me a break
With fisher the community won, fisher probably helped raise money more than any other player in the same time frame. The charities won and probably encouraged others to cheer for the sens and support them even thought they might not have been hockey fans before. Remember fisher got underwood to help him raise money and they had the auction for a dinner with them. I've never seen a player offer such a personal experience before. It was great for the city.
Its not all about the cup when it comes to helping the city and community out. everyone wins and thats nice to see in this current day and age
11 points in 25 games on a playoff bound team is nothing to write home about.
Condra has 11 points in 25 games in OTTAWA.
Greening has 13 points in 23 games in OTTAWA.
While I think we all admired Fisher for his character than his actual play, 2nd line center's #1 quality shouldn't be character, it should be offense. And this is all coming from a Fisher fan who was devastated when he was traded.
I guarantee you that anyone that did attend actually would disagree with you - what excatly was the point - to proclaim they could have gotten more for Mike Fisher? Come on - waste of time...
I think you should see a therapist.

Agreed. I dont know what that guys deal is with the Sens.
I think you should actually get your facts straight before you post - Greening has "13 points in 23 games" - still more than Mikey but slightly off. Again, did you listen to press conference? Sorry nothing that Eugene said was worthy of a press conference.
cheers
I really like P.J. Stock as an analyst.
He played in the NHL, not sure for what team, but he comes
across as knowledgeable and confident. He knows how to handle the arguments put up by Glen Healy !!
He is also a regular on the RDS "L'Anti Chambre" show, and does speak very good French !
Could one day replace Ron MacLean of Hockey Night In Canada !!
I'm sure he will after our last game... but in the mean time, why have this conference?
speculation is he may have been into the sauce....
sorry meant to attach...

We need to own our own barn.
and does anyone know when and if Andre Petersson will play with the club ?
is it a signing that will have him playing with the big club next year ?
Yes we certainly need to get our arena back... and I think the best way is to target the younger crowd growing up watching/loving the Sens (and who can get loud) and the businesses.
you can skip ahead to 5:10 to the Melnyk interview if you don't want to watch the entire episode
Umm... er... umm... Elliott why did ask me that? Shit, how do I answer!? Umm... oh crap... hmmmh... "it was misinterpreted Elliott!?....
If they go with someone new, it will be a clean slate not a Bryan Murray 2.0.
I know Pierre Mcguire was seen in Kanata not long ago on a non-game night and no TSN broadcasts before or after that day either. Also, since late Feb, PM has not many - if any - Sens games or rarely even sits on the intermission panel for there games; yet Gord Miller (his partner) has done games.... maybe I'm just reading in to things too much, but I have a hunch he is the guy or at least in serious running for it.
I think he'd be good too, he knows hockey, he's in touch with youth and you wouldn't see his shtick that he brings on TV...its just a role he plays
which really does beg the question "then who"...
To be honest our barn is actually much louder (on the Sens side) during Leafs and Habs games compared to say 2 years ago! It could be the younger fans growing up to actually buy those tickets!

Another solid move!!
He made some terrible signings since his arrival. He signed Richardson out of retirement, then signed Jason Smith. He traded Corvo and Eaves for Commodore and Stillman and both of them ended up signing elsewhere.
We traded Vermette for an injury proned number 1 goalie. We signed Kovalev to a ridiculous contract. Only Montreal were dumb enough to offer as much as us and it was justified by the fact that he had a history there. Not us... We then traded a 2nd pick and Picard for Cullen which ended up not resigning as well. We also had 4 coaches in only 4 years.
We can blame it all on bad luck and none of these experiences ended up as successful as planned but at some point, someone needs to be accountable otherwise we'll just be a laughingstock around the league. If the reconstruction plan is really going on, Murray needs to go as well. As for Clouston, it's hard to evaluate when he's had to work with an AHL goalie, a lazy team and unmotivated players.
Alfie Karlsson Petersson Runblad Lehner Siflverberg Sorensen.....if draft magic could be made Landeskog ... Sens 3rd jersey should be yellow with spartan crown
