Bishop looked extremely out of place and under-prepared. You are not going to win games flopping around like a 6'-7" fish out of water. With a 2 goal lead twice, the defense failed in a major way and cost us this game. If this aggressive schedule is going to be difficult for the old guys to keep up, Maclean maybe needs to sit Phillips and Gonchar and let them rest. The upcoming games are going to be a true test of what this team is made of.

yea phillips has had a rough start and his game tying goal in fla is not good enough to shield it, given still the fact that the lightning were the first team to score an even strength goal against the sens. however, it was phillips on ice when that happened, he got crunched by stamkos against the boards and was too lazy to get back in front to clear him out. i thought gonchar suffered more because of phillips yesterday too. the lead goal by malone was just bad luck and bad bad rebound control by bishop.

I wouldn't send down either of Benoit or Wiercioch. Those two guys have played some solid hockey with all things considered. My biggest concern on our blueline is Phillips. He's been by far and away our worst player to start the season. I guess not playing for the last few months has really hit him hard. He wasn't very good last year but he looks awful in the first 4 games so far. I'm still hoping that Murray will be able to pull the trigger on a deal to bring in a good top 4 guy with lots of hockey left in him. There probably aren't many guys available right now because teams are still trying to evaluate what they have, but I suspect the trade market will pick up in the coming weeks. Gonchar had a poor game last night but I had been pleasantly surprised with his play in the first 3 games.

I know it's only one game.. but I was thinking the same thing. He looks out of sync. He is usually not that bad. Can they send him to Bingo on a conditioning stint to play a lot of games for a couple of weeks and bring up Lehner? Nope, waivers are required due to oneway Not for a conditioning stint... But I think that can only be about 2 weeks then he has to come back up. Bishop isn't as bad as showed last night. But I can't believe Gonchar & Phillips just seemed to stand there and leave Stamkos in front of the net with the puck. I really couldn't believe my eyes on that one.

I thought Boro played OK even though he got caught out of position a few times. Once the coach reamed him out about making long passes he played OK. I think Wiercioch might have had trouble with this team in the defensive end. That is not his strength at all. I think that putting Boro in was a good coaching decision and he ended up +1 on the evening. We all know Benoit is being given every chance to succeed and I agree, he may get picked off waivers if he gets sent down and that would really mess up the depth in the organization. I guess what the management should to is have a suitable replacement in negotiations before he is sent down.

i think there were some real positives in the game too: daugavins showed more chemistry with alfie and turris than latendresse. especially off the rush with his skating speed.. karlsson was again better than anyone else on the ice. turris is showing why that trade was so sick. i didnt like o'brien's game very much. especially that lost faceoff. on defense definitely phillips and gonchar laid massive eggs. i think the policy may need to be to sit one of them on the second game of a back to back. Phillips did not have the jump yesterday. it shows up particularly on the stamkos backhander and the cory conacher assist to salo on the tie-up tampa goal in the third. on the 5th goal, i think bishop gave a nasty rebound and gonchar had the worst luck anyone could have trying to clear the rebound - lets hope he didnt injure himself when he fell like that. on bishop - definitely did not play like he has shown alot of people he can - so we can patch that up as a one time bad game for now. i think he was just very shaky and that caused all the problems for him. and for people dumping on spezza, michalek, borocop...pleas e...those guys are not the reason we lost. look at the boxscore and you will see that it was actually the captain and daug sharing -3 honors with phillips and gonchar.

Alfieformayor Quote I think it's definitely fair to put some of the blame on Bishop. He looked slow, had lots of holes and his rebound control was atrocious. I think he's a better goaltender than what he showed us last night. He didn't get much help defensively but not once did he make a big save to bail out the team, unlike Anderson who is good for at least 5 game saving stops per game. I just really didn't like the decision to sit Andy last night. He gives our team the best chance to win and he's on fire to start the season. He's used to playing in back to back games and carrying a huge work load. I honestly believe we would have won that game last night with Andy in net. Exactly I deleted what I was going to say because it was almost an exact repeat. Kind of felt like BM pushed for Bishop to play to get his stock up, that kind of backfired if that was the case. Whatever next game

It's pretty easy to second guess the goaltending decision after a loss. Bishop had a rough game and he fought the puck but it wasn't entirely his fault and you know he is better than he showed last night. Plenty of rust, no NHL game action in 10 months, some bad tips and bounces, it can happen. That said, I think now you run with Andy until he loses and then start bishop. Get bishop his games following an Andy loss. Might feel less pressure if not thinking he needs to continue a win streak. Gonchar and Philips had their worst game of the year by a long shot, they should have cleared some pucks and players before tampa scored on at least two occasions. At the end of the day, its just one loss, hardly panic time. I suspect they will come back strong against a beatable Pittsburgh team tomorrow.

Does the farm AHL lightning team also have a 50 goal scorer? Surely I don't recall the Crunch having Stamkos, Lecavalier, St Louis, Hedman, Malone... Oh wait, they were playing against us tonight. Hard to fault Bishop completely when the D gave up half way through the game. Gonch and Phillips especially werent too impressive with their -3 rating tonight. Not to mention putting Boro in there as opposed to Wiercoch. Rest up boys... If they thought tonight was tough, Sunday will be a rude awakening if they get off to a bad start.

It would take a hell of a lot more than that to get Hjalmarsson. Chicago's undefeated so far and their goaltending has been good. I think a lot of people over value Bishop. We traded a 2nd rounder for him last year but that doesn't mean we can get a good return on him in a trade now. None of us really know what the market is for goalies right now, especially a back up goaltender. We traded a 2nd for him because that's what his market value was. There's no guarantee that his market value is equal to or greater than what we game up for him just under a year ago. I think people that automatically believe that we can get a first round pick for him or a legit top 4 dman like Hjalmarsson are all a little crazy.

Not overly impressed with Bishop tonight. I didn't like the decision to rest Anderson to begin with. They should have continued to ride the hot hand with Andy. He played a shitload of back to back situations last year and I believe without a doubt we would have won that game with Anderson between the pipes. I also didn't like that Latendresse and Wiercioch were scratched. Keep the winning line-up in tact. The boys had great chemistry in the first three games and all the line juggling definitely threw them off tonight. Mac even had Zack Smiith skating with Turris and Alfie at times. Weird decisions by Coach Maclean, a guy that I have rarely ever questioned. Don't get me wrong, I don't think either Daug or Boro played a poor game, I just think that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Not exactly the same players, but similar styles. And to finally acquire that sniper that can "Puemp" in 50 like Heater did to make Spezza's job a little easier.
