sorry but condra is super useful on our PK right now - not a trade candidate. we won't get much for him either due to his numbers, but guy has hockey sense and is very valuable to Paul MacLean on PK. Thats also one thing the sens have more of this year: lots of forwards who can play PK: Spezza, Alfie, Milan, Smith, Condra, Greening, Regin, Daugavins and even Neil.

So Zibanejad has goals in three straight games and at least a point in 4 or 5 straight since returning from injury... Thank god! I was starting to worry that with missing all that time that this year was going to end up being just another year of wasted development. Lets hope he can stay healthy and finish out the season. If he keeps playing like this he will be the first injury call up to the Sens. I remember, Zibanejad started playing his best hockey after his first concussion last year in the SEL. Despite the team losing many game, he was Djurgarden's most consitent player stat wise, either putting up a goal or an assist, in like 7-8 of the last 10 games of Djurgarden's season. He was also pretty in the relegation tournament, his team sucked, but his 6 points in 10 games were the most for an under 20 player in the the tournament(way more than forsberg), and his 4 goals in 10 games were the most on Djurgarden aswell.

I'm not that worried about the defence at this point. Gonchar might be playing for a new contract and we know Phillips always finds another gear for the playoffs. The team is well balanced at forward and goal. Bryan Murray could find someone to replace Condra on the 4th line. Someone a bit tougher that can score a couple more goals than Condra. It wouldn't cost much but increases our depth. As far as Bishop is concerned Murray does not have move him. He can sit back and field offers. Who knows when another Turris-like situation comes up. With depth at forward, defence and goal he can strike without much competition from other teams.

In other news Gryba is going to be replacing Benoit for the AHL all-star game. As much as I like the game of Borocop from what I've seen Gryba is going to be a stand out NHLer sooner rather than later. I'm thinking that once we give Boro a few games he will probably switch with Gryba - or he could be like Lehner in that he will be one of the leaders of that Bingo team and come up next year.

I think that the sens were fortunate that, with the exception of Methot, there were relatively few major changes to the line-up and that those players that were new to the NHL had been playing together in Bingo. The fact that Bingo are being taught a similar system to the one favoured by MacLean can't be under estimated with such a short amount of preparation time. The new blueliners have been told to keep things simple and make the easy play, which will cut down on mistakes. Ottawa is a well coached organisation and that is showing in the early games. A quick start in a shortened season will pay dividend s when quality teams who struggle early (Flyers, Hurricanes, Capitals) find their feet.

It's been an interesting start to the season. Hoping the Sens can win the next 2 games in Florida.. because it gets harder with Pitts on Sunday... Then Wash (which should be a Sens win with the way the Caps are playing) and then Mtl which for some reason the Sens have a hard time beating. BoroCop will come into the lineup for Benoit when the Sens play the teams that have fighters or goons.. But agreed that Wiercioch & Benoit have done a good job and held their own so far. Who would have thought that Philly would be 0-3 to start the season. They are without Briere due to injury and it is showing on the scoreboard.. I don't think he goes anywhere. The Rangers could go 0-3 to start the season as well if they lose to Boston again tonight. I don't think anyone could have imagined that. I'm in some online hockey pools and I picked Lundqvist in everyone of them. Go figure... I guess it is my fault that the Rangers are losing. LOL If Paul Gaustad nets a 1st round pick.. then if Bishop plays decent in his games with the Sens going to the trade deadline then he should get close to that. I mean.. think about it... Paul Gaustad -- a first round pick? He is not worth that.. no way. If there is a bidding war for Bishop.. then the price could definitely be in Ottawa's favour.

I'm sure he was more than ready, but Anderson is still our #1 goalie, and has proven it in both the first 2 games.
You are not alone my friend, although it feels like it when our Sens visit and there's 5 of us in the crowd. Which pub are you talking about? Donegals in the sw by sarcee trail, not to far from my house but the owner saw my sens tatoo on my shoulder and we had a great talk and some beers, if the sens make the playoffs this year you boys should come to the pub, first rounds on me! I know it well. I go there for beers after golfing at Shaganappi. If I'd known the games were always on, I would have been a regular there. I've had Center Ice since I moved out West as Shanks is the only bar that you can count on to play whatever game you want to see, and I live in your neck of the woods. yeah sschanks is pretty sweet when it comes to that, and im just down the hill from crowfoot so it almost more logical for me to go there, but the owner of donegals is so good to sens fans i enjoy going there much more

I think you nailed it. Turris really is showing he has the stuff to fill those shoes someday. I look back and I just love that trade! Incredible how many people lost their minds when we sent Rundblad and a 2nd round pick to Yotes for Turris. Look back at some of the archived comments from last year...its hilarious how quickly the "armchair GM's" came out to declare what a horrible trade that was. As a passionate fan base here in Ottawa, I think we could all exercise a little more patience with the clubs decisions on players. I think Murray has earned enough credit for that. Well your clearly wrong because i think we all knew that Lehner should have started the first few games until Anderson was game ready Also, Benoit should have been benched for the Florida game in favor of Borocop and finally we all knew Turris was a bad trade just like it was stupid to trade for Bishop last year, pretty stupid idea to have goaltending depth in a league that is short on goaltending depth

Well you answered it yourself really, he only posts that to try and get more hits. But yes, theoretically three-way deals are still entirely possible. But since there's nothing we want from Vancouver (that they'd likely include with Lou) I think it's safe to say Ottawa's not looking at it all. I know Eklund is usually bullsh** but i cant help looking, it's like a car accident. My question was more about Ottawa eating cap space (ex: taking half of Luongo's cap hit) and getting prospects or a top 4 dee from philly in return). I was wondering if Ottawa could eat money from a deal rather than taking someone's issue off their hand's (ex: Briere)

Danny Briere? Big cap hit but only paid a fraction of it in the last two years of the deal. I believe he's from Gatineau, as is his ex wife. Not sure if that's where she's living but she has custody of their kids. Bishop to Vancouver to back up Schneider? I'm sure there would be a lot more to this deal, but Philly has Briere, Giroux, Coutourier, Schenn and Talbot down the middle. They can afford to move Briere, and maybe he'd waive his no trade to come home. The fans in Philly would eat Luongo alive!

how can anyone suggest Luongo to Ottawa, is beyond ridiculous. however, any team that is in goaltending problems and would even consider a overpriced, albeit proven, would be nuts not to see what it would take to pry Bishop out of Ottawa. Yes not yet proven, but is certainly a bonafide prospect, with all the makings of a very decent goalie. Not sure which would be more of a risk, a low cost prospect, or a very expensive proven, but faultering veteren

No surprise, Lehner was only kept up in case Anderson got off to a slow start. As for Bishop, he will likely be parlayed into either a 1st round pick, 2nd rounder + prospect or a top 4/5 D-man. Teams have to be knocking....EDM , NYI, PHI to name a few. Im sure there are a few more. a big goalie with tons of potential and a cheap cap hit are hard to find. What intrigues me is what the Sens will do next year and year after with Anderson/Lehner - both these guys are looking quite promising long term.

They should be relegated to the AHL. Just came back from the Edmonton game. Bunch of individuals trying too much. Sharks actually played like a team. Also reminded me of Ottawa the year they missed the playoffs when NONE of our defenders could make a breakout pass. Unless the Oilers get some better defence, they will never win a championship. They need to trade some of their assets imo. No room for all the prospects. Anyways glad I am a sens fan. ALso Scotiabank place is a lot nicer and not any quieter imo

With exception to Yakupov getting his 1st, Edmonton fans must be PISSED!!! Did anyone see the logic of leaving Dubnyk in net after goal number 4? Once Marleau nets two in the span of a minute, deflating any hype Nail did for the team and crowd, you yank him and save his dignity for the night. Instead they ride him out only to have 2 more in a minute span at the end of the 1st. I can't say Danis is someone I'd want in the net either, but come on. And you could tell that was going to spark something at the half, and sure enough the panel brought up trade suggestions which mentioned Bishop. IMO he has 1st line centre potential & because he is only 23 yrs old & Spezza is only 29 yrs old it should still be a while before he is our 1st line centre & Spezza is the 2nd line centre. The good news is that we now have a legitimate 2nd line centre who can move into that 1st line centre spot should Spezza get hurt something we haven't real had before unless you count Chris Kelly who did a great job a few yrs ago in Spezza's absence.
I hope the sens are kicking tires for Nino, could be another Turris for us, the kid still has a ton of potential, he just turned 20 and is having a great AHL season with 36 points in 39 games.
Under the old CBA, I believe the terms were the following: Group 6 free agents (must be elected by the player): Players who have reached age 25, who have 3 accrued years of professional experience (that is, beyond junior or collegiate hockey), and whose contracts have expired, but have played less than: 1. 80 NHL games played for forwards and defensemen. 2. 28 NHL games played for goaltenders. According to Hockey DB Bishop has played 23 NHL games. So if he plays 5 games this season he should still be RFA ... under the old CBA terms. Bishop must play a minimum of 30 minutes in seven games for him to remain an RFA at seasons end as per Andy Strickland. I see no problem with the Stache playing him in at least ten games with the condensed schedule. Or, trade him at the deadline so we at least get a pick/prospect in return. It's a great position to be in, and I'm in no hurry to see Murray pull the trigger on a trade until the right offer comes along.

Although a bit early (obviously) starting to draw some parallels between Andre Benoit and Brian Rafalski. Both were considered too small, both had to take the long road and at times hone their craft in Europe before coming back to try to their luck in the show in their late 20's. Benny has made some terrific defensive steals and reads, has played the one on one's exceptionally well, sees the ice and makes a great first pass in his own end, (did anyone see him join the rush with Alfie.......awe some) and his career resume speaks for itself with respect to his offensive capabilities. People keep overlooking him and thinking he is the one going down and I chuckle, have you watched the games???? yes he is in his late 20's, but the kid could have 5-6 great years in him, just like Rafalski and to a lesser degree Mark Streit. My advice, don't mess with what works, and after all the talk of an inexperienced D, we have allowed 1 goal in two games, and weir/benoit have combined for 3 points and have outplayed philps and at times the 5.5 million gonchar at times. They keep it up and I would move Gonchar, bump up weir and benoit to 2nd pair and put the extremely slow footed philips on the 3rd pair where he belongs. Food for thought.

The Sens at a minimum should get a 2nd round pick for Bishop.. I don't think Murray would take anything less. If he plays some games this season and improves his worth then that works well for the Sens. I think I heard on the Team the other day.. that Bishop has to play 'x' number of NHL games this season or he becomes a UFA at season's end.. which would make it a lot more difficult to get a real good return. Really happy the way this team is playing so far. Other teams have a choice to make. Send your checking line against Spezza's line and leave Turris's line more room or vice-versa.. Works great for the Sens to have two top scoring lines.. and also lines 3 and 4 who can put the puck in the net as well...

No surprise Lehner was going to be sent down to Bingo, it was just a matter of when. Anderson is the legitimate #1& is proving it & Bishop has the one way contract. I sure hope they don't sign another very small defenceman, we already have the smallish Benoit & certainly don't need another one. What Murray should do is bring up Gryba to play with Wiercioch since he is a right shot, a shot blocker & brings an element of toughness this team could use a little more of. The other answer would be to make a trade for a defenceman but there is no urgency to make a trade right now. Once Bishop increases his value & maybe Regin & Condra they could put a package to deal all three for a good young big defenceman. I wish Murray would have gone after Petry, he's a player this team could use right now.

That was a nice return for STL and that would yield us a nice return again. Again I'm not abshing Bishop I think he is great, but honestly his value shouldn't have increased at all in 1 year as he hasn't done anything more than he had done before. 2nd rounder or B level prospect would get it done Now with all this being said I stil think his best value is in a trade where Ottawa is the aggressor and looking to package upwards rather than someone else being the aggressor and packaging up to us to get Bishop

This I don't agree with, not that its a crazy idea just that any team willing to pay a ransom at the dealine for a goalie probably doesn't need a #1 goalie because they are already set. I would think it is harder to bring in a goalie for a cup run than any other player That being said most of the goalie trades that happen at the deadline are lower teams looking for help (ottawa with bishop and anderson 2 years in a row for example) Id use Varlamov as a comparable in terms of value, keep in mind that everyone except for Colorado thought Washington got way too much for him

Bishop will be traded. I don't think any offer for Anderson or Lehner would result in one of them being traded -- unless a superstar was coming the other way. It has been forever since Ottawa had goaltending depth like it does now -- why would they give that up? It's only two games.. but Anderson has picked up where he left off in the playoffs... playing great. Bingo needs Lehner.. the other goalies are not getting the job done...

I do not want to move bishop and I'm not sure of the whole waiver situation but bishop was put on waiver to play for BSENS if we kept him down there until we have Lehner a few games I see no harm and then we could send Lehner down and Bishop can stay up on his one way. If we are trading bishop it better be for a first in this years draft or part of a deal to get Niklas Hjalmarsson+

If bingo don't play till Friday why send Lehner down today? You would think having 3 goalies at practice including 2 backups would be worthwhile when we have 2 days off before our next game, get some practice in for our guys But this is just me being picky
