Still a bit of a long shot, but making a good case for a spot on the world junior team. Might help that Spott is the coach. Ya on paper its tough competition, but the kid is averaging almost a goal a game, hard not to consider. I think if he's playing with a good C like Strome he'd do nothing but light the lamp the kid is probably the most talented goal scorer in the O. Love to see him there anyway Considering this is Puempel's in junior, and he is lighting up the net, scoring nearly 30% of the teams goals; I see no reason why he should not make the junior team, heck since he is actually living up to his draft reputation as Button quoted" the best pure goal scorer in the 2011 draft," he should be playing on Strome's wing in WJC. I remember when we drafted him, I was puzzled to why they considered him the best pure goal scorer in his class, because he was only a 30 goal scorer, then I found out he was playing for a crappy Petes team, and scoring 30 goals for that team is quite a mile stone. Although he is not plaaying for a crappy team this year, but you got to think how much more goals he would have scored if players like Faksa and Murray started playing better early in the season. Recently these 2 players are playing really well, and Puempels producting is following their play really nicely. By the way nice to see Zibanejad finally get his first multi point game today, along with Pageau. It would have been nice if he scored a goal aswell, but I guess that is something that will eventually come to him. Evander Kane actually took a while to turn into the 30 goal scorer he is today despite the fact he was drafted fourth overall, I hope Zibanejad really turns into one for the sens in the future.

=============== =============== =============== ============= Ottawa is a small market team. So is Edmonton/Winnip eg. The Sens made about 2 M $$ last year on about a 53M dollar payroll. How well would they do in decertification ... not very well I would think... Some NHL players don't want to play in Canada either... A lot of small market teams could fold if the NHLPA decertifies... But I see conflicting reports.. if they decertify and they 'win' -- after what could be a 2 yr fight... does every player become a UFA even if he currently has a contract signed under the last CBA?

Don't really care much for Bolland... but his comment doesn't exactly surprise me. Guy doesn't seem like the smartest tool in the shed, so. Players should just keep quiet until it's all said and done. Stars players didn't want to play in Florida then, and they don't want to now. The only way to attract players is to build a winning culture like Detroit or Boston (literally, Patriots/Celtic s/Red Sox/Bruins). Of course, winning will lead to money, and money in turn will bring in the players. But, if you don't have either money or a winning culture, that's what leads to those small market teams failing. There's a reason why they're called small market teams. It's become pretty clear though that owners don't make much from their clubs (unless you're the Leafs...)

Personally (I know most won't agree) but I think parity is good for the NHL. It's good for the league that any team can win on any given night. Parity is what helped the NHL's revenue growth. I personally would not want a Sens team that never has a chance to get back to the finals as the big spending teams get all the star players. Melnyk would not be able to spend enough to keep up with them. Did you hear the latest from an NHL player? Dave Bolland re-tweeted a fan comment -- calling for the death of Gary Bettman. He later apologized -- saying he often re-tweets items from fans. Is he that stupid that he doesn't read them first? Or maybe drank too much? My guess he got called out by either his team rep or one of the Fehrs.

Honestly, the NHL needs to stop trying to expand, and maybe decrease the number of teams. More isn't always better. More makes it much harder to win the Cup, but less teams could mean the return of dynasty lines/teams again. That's the problem with trying to create parity through out the league... I dont think there will ever be one dominate team/era again. Granted, it would suck if the Sens were one of the teams removed, but I would think we're much more viable than say the Isles, Panthers, or Jackets. There's definitely more stability in Ottawa than those areas (plus the city continues to grow). I mean, can you imagine if the Wild ceased to exist, and we had an option of grabbing Parise or Suter...

I'm pumped to see Bingo rack up all these wins, but they seem to be doing to on the backs of the two stud goaltenders we have down there. It's great for the team to have such a healthy battle between the pipes. Hopefully Lehner and Bishop can feed off of each other and push each other to be the best they can be.
Would they not be getting all of the e-mail updates that Fehr sends out? Does EVERY player go on the phone calls? My guess is not... Neuwirth speaks the truth when he says this is all about protecting the superstar's salaries.. Hamrlik is frustrated with this process. Being through 3 of these probably gives him the right to be frustrated. Should they have kept it out of the media? Probably.. But then again what player has kept their mouth shut.. I laughed when Campoli got in a verbal argument with an Owner (can't remember which one it was). Campoli may not have a job at the end of this.. so what is he fighting for?

From what Bill Daly said on Hockey Central today.. he is not concerned if the NHLPA decertifies. He used to work in Anti-trust legislation. He didn't say it.. but I got from him that the decertification would not work.. But again my ASSUMPTION.. but him saying he is not concerned could in turn anger the players more to go ahead with it. The issue is.. right now.. IMO -- the players are thinking with their hearts and their anger... NOT their heads.

Troy Brouwer confirms my thoughts, Hamrlik and Neuvirth aren't even informed or involved with the NHLPA discussions but still feel they can spew their mouth off in the media. As they haven't even talked to their player rep or Fehr prior to their outbursts, it's pretty clear how selfish these two are. Hope they stay in Europe and leave more room for quality individuals to replace them on their team. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=410109

De-certificatio n is generally not used to the full extent in these situations. It's just used as a threat or forceful leverage. The entire de-certificatio n process is not beneficial enough for the NHLPA, it's just the headache it would cause the NHL for 1-2 years to come is enough to force a CBA to be finalized. Most sports start the decertification process and the CBA is signed shortly after without ever going the full decertification and counter suits path. The media right now is blowing it way out of proportion for what it would be. Look at the NBA as an example, it forced the CBA to be signed within a couple weeks. The only reason the NFL took longer is because they were already in the offseason when it happened and not in the middle of a lockout. The threat of decertification could actually resolve this CBA negotiations and get fans what they want ... NHL hockey in our rinks! (not saying I support it though - I just want this over with asap)

Great game by Binghamton last night... Weircoich is looking good and so are Prince & Silfverberg. A good article I found on HB that relates what Decertification is all about. We don't want that. Would be the end of Karlsson & Spezza in Ottawa... and possibly the end of the Senators themselves. They could not compete withe the big spending teams like the Rangers & Flyers. As someone tweeted.. Crosby could make up to 50 Million a season while players like Colby Armstrong would make about 50,000. I hope player agents caution some of these role players what decertification would mean for them. The superstars would be paid very handsomely.. the rest not so much -- if they would have a job at all. Players would be getting 70%-80% share of HRR with no CBA. I don't care how rich a team is.. they would still lose money. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Richard-Cloutier/CBA-Goes-Nuclear-NHLPA-to-Decertify/131/47637 BTW -- the NHL has cancelled the All-Star Game and all games to Dec 14th... Next step they cancel the season.

As per TSN, NHL set to cancel games through 14 December, including All-Star game. Is their no type of mediator that could get involved in this process at this point? Its become very clear that Bettman and Fehr are being VERY well paid to NOT be doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing...which is make a deal happen. What is at stake here is bigger than 2 egos, and I believe if these 2 sides were truely capable of working together to hash out a new CBA, that it would have happened by now. They clearly can't. So something else has to happen. Read up on DECERTIFICATION folks. Thats the next play for the PA in all of this.
