should be noted that the second someone (Jimmy D) mentions that GM's and owners do police themselves (with offer sheets) the NHLPA cries collusion. If owners were limiting themselves based on beliefs that a CBA wasnt fair, the NHLPA would cry about it. Whether you like it or not, or whether they like it or not, Bettman has made every single NHL player very, very rich. If Havlat was a cow, he would have been brought out to pasture and shot by now. But instead, he has collected 48 Million dollars from "the ranch."

For the record NickGorm, I'm on no ones side in all this mess. In my opinion, they are both 100 percent wrong. My whole argument is that Bill Daly is lying piece of shite by stating that to the media yesterday. They keep saying their doors are open to chat, but they clearly are not willing to talk, because NO ONE HAS SAT DOWN TO TALK IN 10 DAYS. You saying that we shouldn't "hate" Bettman and that he isn't the issue?!? Who is the common denominator for every lockout we've had? Gimme a break man, ya he's done some good for the NHL but he's acting like a little fucking baby right now. He's got to put his ego aside and let his people work out a deal. Bettman must be removed from negotiations. Until that happens, nothing will get done. Not saying the NHLPA are innocent, but it seems to me that the owners are crying wolf, when they are the problem. They cry that contracts are too big/too long, who's giving them out again?! The owners have to be protected from themselves?! How pathetic is that.

Your question had me thinking, I don't recall seeing stats for hits in the SEL website, or maybe I just wasn't looking. I've just spent the last few minutes searching all of his stat history and cannot find one mention of hits. I honestly don't think the SEL pays attention to that stat as much as they do the others, like GP, G, A, P, PIM, +/-. Even the NHL has his SEL stats and hits is empty. Guess we'll never know unless we watch tons of youtube video, lol. It is widely known that the SEL is a finesse league, so I guess it's just not something they keep track of. But I wasn't as happy with his +/- as I'd like to be, I hadn't really looked at it before. He's more on the offensive side, but it does show that he may need to focus a little more on his defensive end as well.

I think you are right in a way, it's usually only the bigger stars who go and are able to basically pick the team they want to play on, that's one of the perks of being one of the best in the world. And like you said, more power to them for having that ability. There are more than just those guys, but it's the stars you tend to hear about the most and they make the news and cause the fans to be angry. There are also older and younger players, such a Jagr, Krejci, Ehrhoff, Ference, Ennis, Peverley, Seguin and even guys like Regin and Spezza are linked to going now. In the end, if they are able too, then so be it. What makes it even more interesting is the SEL has decided on Friday to open it's doors now. Originally trying to stand ground saying no, it wasn't long before they squashed that idea. I guess seeing all the big stars going elsewhere, they slowly realize the brief stardom they let slip through there fingers. The SEL was forced to open it's doors by the Swedish courts. Oh really? I didn't see that report, just heard they opened the doors. Well that makes much more sense, lol

The beauty of it all is that it literally takes 1 day to finish the lockout. Once they agree on the main framework the details will fly through. At this point I think we're starting to see how long the owners were/are willing to posture and pretend they could live with missing games, but now we're seeing they really don't want to be in the position of missing regular season games as that will definitely impact their bottom line this year and growth going forward. On the players side, they've prepared to defend themselves with a much later fold date and for that they likely have the upper hand ... whether it's right or wrong, they seem to correctly realize they are actually in a position of power when it comes to negotiating this time. Especially if they're doing it based on principle and feeling bullied, which only helps strengthen the resolve. I've said before, I still hope both sides have been mainly posturing and we can see something by mid October.

@ 383 Sure you can think that, but it does take both sides to meet and negotiate. From all i've read and heard Daly has been on the radio, tv shows and many many interviews adamantly supporting his stance that the NHL is ready to talk. Hell, they've been ready since Nov 2011. I don't want to start a huge argument about the subject again as that has been done many times over the past few weeks.... However, I don't understand how people are still backing the NHLPA. I know that both sides are greedy, manipulative and greedy (did i say that already?), but the owners have all the control, plain and simple. If the NHLPA wants to stick it out in hopes of keeping a 57% stake in HRR, this lookout will be indefinite. There is no way the owners will allow this to continue and both sides know it. Fehr and co. are simply making everything more difficult to minimize concessions and keep the players more or less 'united' (I cant stand that they keep throwing that word around). ANYWAYS, that was me sounding off a bit about this whole lockout. Ill keep an eye on the discussion and try to participate when appropriate. And all you Bettman haters, please, please, stop. The man has done nothing but improve the sport. Lockouts aside, you can hardly single him out as the root cause of the 4 lockouts in the past decades, owners are greedy, players are cry baby play boys. They both disgust me. BIG SIGH, hope something gets done soon.

Nash has already said the lockout will go one season. Now Dan Cleary says it will be a year or two. Then you have Jason Spezza saying the NHLPA can be patient. So the league is 100% to getting a deal done without any regular season games lost... but comments such as those above tell me the NHLPA is not interested. They really believe Fehr can get them a similar deal like he did with MLBPA. Well a 2 year lockout over purely money will destroy the NHL that I have been watching for close to 50 yrs. I can't believe the arrogance of some of these players that don't seem to be concerned about doing damage to the NHL. Sure the league did the lockout.. but what have the players done to try to get it solved. The Owners did come down in their offers to more on the side of the players... but have the players really budged? This whole thing is getting very frustrating.. and I'm afraid we are in for a long one.. I read in a comment on TSN that 291 players lost their NHL jobs after the 2004 lockout... this one could be a higher total. I wonder if Fehr mentioned that.. some of these players are fighting the good fight for the good of the NHLPA to not have a job to come back to.

As far as the new cba goes I could care less about many of the issues. It would nice to see a 6 or 7 year limit on contracts. But mainly I don't want players to have to take a rollback Think of all the players who would be traded if the cap was dropped and salaries remained intact. It would create a brand new league. I'm currently imagining a 50-55 cap. So many teams would get screwed, and Ottawa wouldnt have to move a single player. A 60 million cap would affect fewer teams, but allow Ottawa the room to acquire a superstar I really think Ottawas rebuild was perfectly timed. Leta keep our fingers crossed for no rollbacks and watch as the league is turned into a frenzy

So far there's been only 20 or so players that have decided to go play elsewhere. For the most part its also only been superstars doing it too (Spezza, Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, datsuk, Malkin, Gonchar, Nash, Thorton) In my opinion if you've made yourself into an nhl superstar, you more than deserve to play wherver you want. Screw the fans who think otherwise. If they take jobs away then too bad so sad to the lesser quality players in the hockey world. There's only one solution to their problem...get better! Like chirp said the very large majority of nhlpa members will be out of a job

I'm 99% certain he's not paying the fine personally and I'm glad he said what he said. If the players think they are going to win this thing they are being sold a false bill of goods. I've said this before and Ifirmly believe it, revenue sharing should not be a part of this negotiation specific to a % players are entitled to. Teams should have a cap, players should have a salary that is consistent across the term of the contract, ice a team that stays within the cap.end of complications.. . If the owners can find ways to be more profitable, all the power to them! Lastly, the more players that jump to other leagues, the more public opinion will sway to the side of the owners. If the players want to win over public opinion why not try to institute some limitations on ticket price inflation etc. and show fans that they aren't simply demanding more of our money.

What pisses me off.. is 'experts' saying there is a deal to be made and they will be back by the US thanksgiving as that coincides with NBC's first broadcast. Well what is wrong with them doing the negotiations NOW to get the season started without losing any regular season games? It makes no sense to me.. this posturing on both sides with neither side wanting to 'give in' to the other. The longer they are out.. the worse it will be revenue wise when the return. I thought Bettman & Fehr were both supposed to be smart men...

A little more to Devellano's comments that TSN did not show. Still not smart of him to say that.. but it's not like the players aren't mouthing off. Like Ryan Miller saying you can't trust Bettman and the Owners.. How do you think the Buffalo owner feels about a comment like that? "Each owner / team has a decision as to how they want to pay their players, as long as they are under the cap. Now Donald Fehr would have you believe by getting rid of the cap, the owners would make more money and that the sky is the limit, but trust me Scott, the owners would lose their *****. We've tried that. It doesn't work. There is just too much cost involved in running and owning a team." "It's very complicated and way too much for the average Joe to understand, but having said that, I will tell you this: The owners can basically be viewed as the Ranch, and the players, and me included, are the cattle. The owners own the Ranch and allow the players to eat there. That's the way its always been and that the way it will be forever. And the owners simply aren't going to let a union push them around. It's not going to happen." I'm sure he felt stupid for saying that after the fact,, and paid for it to the tune of 250K.

That's true, they aren't all original 6, I guess Pitt's being in it 2 times is a good indication of that, but it's also an indication that teams who are playing in it, usually have a decent team, not bottom of the league like the Leafs. Come on, at least be a Playoff team. As for the other outdoor games, those were the Heritage Classic in 2003 and 2011, but how many actually remember it in 2011? The Heritage is what started it all, but the Winter is what really brings in the money now.

That's the part that bothers me. You know DAMN well that the NHL is going to use the Winter Classic as a timeline for sure. They want, or should I say NEED to have that game, the revenues it brings in are tremendous. So you have to think it will hold off on providing the most level proposal right up until that window is close to being passed. In all honesty, I love the idea of the Classic, it's been fun to watch. But Detroit against the Leafs. That just doesn't have the same attraction value to me, as any of the others. I know the Leafs have a big fan base, probably the biggest in the league outside of Montreal and they are original 6. But come on, you could have picked a better team than the Leafs for the 1st Canadian team to take part. At least consider where/what they did the year before, like they somewhat did in the other Classics. If you can't come up with something than just put Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in it again, for the 3rd time each. :( Speaking of Classic, is the real idea that the teams now HAVE to be original 6? You get that feeling, but with Buffalo playing in the very first and the Capitals in 2011, I'm not 100% sure.

Ultimately Silf has either option, but you can bet your bottom dollar that the Sens want him here in NA to get adjusted to the system, ice and overall style of play here. He will not face the same level of intense game play in the SEL, it's a finess league. The AHL is te best place for him and I would think he knows that. But then again, it's a lockout and anything could happen. Would you be upset if he did go back to play and gave one of our other prospects a decent shot at a position? I guess it really depends what the situation is and what's best for him and the org. Personally I'd like to see him rip up the A, as I'm sure most of you would.
