This is precisely what both the NHL and the PA had better ber aware of! My 10 year old son watches wrestling, and I explain to him wiht a smug on my face "dude it is not real, it is all fake, it is only a show, and a business to make money" In the last lockout, I came to ther hard realization that neither side really cares about the Hockey, it really unfortunately is a business, and it is all about $$$. So I ask what is the difference between wrestling, where at least they are honest that it is fixed and is only a business, and hockey where we only pretend that players and owners really care about the hockey? As fans we pour our hearts and hard earned money, in the belief that our teams care to win the Stanley cup. But at the end of the day, when you team either, does not make the playoffs, or is out in the first, second rounds, these players will get into their Ferrari's drive to theri 8000 sq ft mansions, go out to dinner every night to the finest restaurants, and book extravagent vacations, while we are busy working our every day lives. Some will say "not my team and players" Yah well I respond with the Gonchar, Malkin's of the world, who could care less about any of us! These lockouts are a revalation to many hardcores, and as many have said, fool me once, shame on me... WAKE THE FUK UP FOOLS

how can people side with the owners after the gm signings just this week? how many owners have come out and said we need to reduce budgets or we could be forced to relocate? how many owners voted for the lockout? owners in my opinion have never bought a sports franchise to make money, its a personal trophy to them like a bragging right, they own other businesses to make money. It's their fault to buy a team thats not making money and expect the league to change it so they do make money. if this were about the owners i think the coyotes 2 owners ago would tell you they will sell the team and it could be relocated, betman stopped them from doing so and bankrupted the franchise twice in five years. this is not about the owners this about raising the value of the franchises so the nhl makes money on the new phoenix deal and the markham deal. this is pissing me off.

The following message to fans was issued by the National Hockey League on Sunday: Despite the expiration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the National Hockey League has been, and remains, committed to negotiating around the clock to reach a new CBA that is fair to the Players and to the 30 NHL teams. Thanks to the conditions fostered by seven seasons under the previous CBA, competitive balance has created arguably the most meaningful regular season in pro sports; a different team has won the Stanley Cup every year; fans and sponsors have agreed the game is at its best, and the League has generated remarkable growth and momentum. While our last CBA negotiation resulted in a seismic change in the League’s economic system, and produced corresponding on-ice benefits, our current negotiation is focused on a fairer and more sustainable division of revenues with the Players — as well as other necessary adjustments consistent with the objectives of the economic system we developed jointly with the NHL Players’ Association seven years ago. Those adjustments are attainable through sensible, focused negotiation — not through rhetoric. This is a time of year for all attention to be focused on the ice, not on a meeting room. The League, the Clubs and the Players all have a stake in resolving our bargaining issues appropriately and getting the puck dropped as soon as possible. We owe it to each other, to the game and, most of all, to the fans.

Then, I played a round of golf, picked up a kilo of Halibut. And BBQ'd lakeside while chugging delicious Canadian vino. I barely had time to check the NFL scores. Fuck the owners and the players as they are all greedy bastards. I'm going to miss hockey, but I will find something else to do. If they don't get their shit together, even hardcore fans like myself, may just stick with junior hockey from here on.

Unfortunately you can only get refunds once the game is officially cancelled. So if this goes on for half the season I still have tickets 'til the end so I either don't go or ? I'ld rather not go then boo ALL the players at that point but who knows how this will all end. Not going to throw away a bunch of $100 tickets. Don't want to sell or give them away 'cause then the seat would not be empty. All I can say at this point is that I'm really pissed off at the player's. They cannot win this war and they really don't need too anyway. They did very well since the last CBA they "lost". Should be interesting to see how the advancements in social media play out in the lockout this time around. Here's hoping it helps bring it to an end soon.

I honestly don't know what I'm going to do. I hope that fans will be doing something to stick it to the owners and players where it counts. With social media now so strong, I hope that somebody will organize a strike-like stand to make them feel our pain. We have to show the owners and players that they won't have any money to fight over anymore if they don't get their act together. I won't be going to any games or buying anything NHL related for a little while. Maybe as a protest, fans should ask for a refund on their tickets and not go to at least a few games to start the season. I hope something is done because otherwise we'll be going through this again when the next CBA expires.

This is NOT all on Bettman and the Owners. It is on both sides. I think it is disgusting that both sides did not think about the GOOD OF THE NHL to come to an agreement. This CBA is all about the MONEY -- pure greed. The Owners got the salary cap they NHL needed for survival last CBA -- but the players got all the rest. Sure they gave up 24% in salary.. BUT salaries rose 76% --- they netted 52% salary increases. Why not a 50-50 split? It makes sense to the fans... why not to both sides? There are thousands of people who could lose their jobs because of this greed. They can't sit back on their millions and just let it pass. They have to try to get employment somewhere in a bad global economy. That is not easy to do. Shame on both sides. The second that lockout happened..... started the downturn and damage to the NHL. It will never come back to where it was this past season.... and both sides are to blame. Sure okay players, go to Europe and play for significantly less than the NHL just offered. Stay there the rest of your careers for all I care.. as some of you won't have a job to come back to. Young players are getting more time to develop and some of you will be replaced. The AHL is going to be a great league this year... I hope CBC, TSN and Sportsnet see that and agree to show their games on regular basis. I can hardly wait for the 67's home opener in 4 DAYS... and for me.. Binghamton on Oct 19 & 20th..

The nhl needs to pay the players if they want to stay the top hockey league, with contracts now given out the way they are in the khl our nhl players are already paid less than the khls best. The nhl is what it is because of the players, not because of the league or their owners. But the players must respect the fans and realize the cost of attending games keeps going up and merchandise gets more expensive so costs need to stop hurting the fan and the family experience. Lets take the best road that enables the fan the greatest experience for the family without needing a small loan to see a live game with the family. It kills me to even think of purchasing the ahl package that costs $100-150 more than the nhl center ice package and its poor quality video etc, also would i continue to watch the ahl when the nhl comes back? probably not.
Thing that pisses me off about the lockout is I know when the league starts back up I will instantly crawl back and I cannot stop myself. I will not miss a single game on tv. However I refuse to attend a single game for the remainder of this season, if we miss a full year then I'll skip all of next year too. I also will buy no merchandise for the entire year either. I'll get a chance to watch a few 67s games this year now. Go 67s Go

I agree that Bingo will be a very competitive squad but so will many of the teams as so many good young players were sent down. Edmonton basically sent the entire NHL team to the AHL. Where many teams worry about the progress of players, the lockout will benefit teams like Ottawa, Edmonton and others who have a large core of young players, as it allows for that quick bridge between the CHL or college and the NHL. Edmonton will probably benifit the most as I had always thought they rushed at least half of their prospects into the NHL. But Ottawa will also get great value out of it, especially zbad, silf, stone and Lehner.

Can't wait for Bingo season to start. I think we'll have a great chance to win it all again. -exceptional offensive talent (zibanejad, Silverberg, Stone, DaCosta, Petersson, Hoffman, etc) -very deep D (Cowen, Wierchoch, Borowiechi, Blood, Gryba, Benoit) -arguably the best goalie in the league (Lehner) -and an eager coach with an NHL mindset I think the toughest competition will probably be Edmonton's farm team as they sent down some elite talent to an already deep team Should be fun to really follow them this year

Hall and Eberle aren't one one way contracts yet. Smith, Greening, Condra etc are all on one way contracts. I don't want any of them in Bingo, they'd just take away ice time from more promising players like Silfverberg, Zibby and Stone. You're right. I guess they're on their last year of entry level contracts. Got confused with the big contracts they signed this summer. If they had still been on entry level contracts though, players like Smith Greening and Condra probably would not have taken the place of our promising prospects, but they could easily have replaced "filler" players like Jessiman, Caporusso, Cannon or Grant. Better to have your prospects around players with real NHL experience if you can..

He's not locking out the players because the CBA was unfair, he's locking them out because it expired and they couldn't reach consensus on a new deal. When you negotiate a new deal, you start back at square one. You can use and agree on things that worked well but you have the option to re-assess and re-negotiate other aspects. It just sucks because us fans are affected by the decision...or lack thereof...

Both sides knew that the agreement was ending today, and yet, they waited until about 2 months before it was due to expire to start seriously discussing a new agreement. Furthermore, I wouldn't call threatening the players with a lockout an act of bargaining in good faith by Gary Bettman. I can't fault the players for wanting to largely keep the status quo; after all, it is the owners who put themselves in this mess to begin with. The owners have the power to tell their general managers not to sign players to ridiculous (and possibly salary cap breaking) contracts. What makes things even more laughable is that they continued to hand out these outrageous contracts right up until the bitter end today! Revenues (and profits) have steadily increased for the owners since the last lockout, so I'm not sure why they're even trying to extract more flesh from the players -- there's no need. The economic recession argument that Bettman is trying to make is about 4 years out of date. Oh well, I'll just focus on other things in the absence of NHL hockey this season. Go 67's!

I'm still hopeful that this lockout won't last too long. If the entire season is lost though, the NHL will lose me forever. I love the game of hockey. I love the NHL and the Sens, but if they jerk us around for an entire season and cancel the season, then I'm done. There's really no excuse for another lockout. I'll lose interest entirely if there isn't NHL hockey until next Septhember. Ill satisfy my hockey cravings by playing more myself and watching more junior games, but as far as the NHL is concerned, the wont get a minute of my time or a cent of money from me. Let's hope it doesn't come to that and that we see the boys back at Scotiabank Place by December 1st at the earliest. I don't think there is any urgency for the owners to settle this dispute until the MLB playoffs are over and the majority of the NFL season is over. The NHL just can't compete with both those leagues in October and November.

What I find most disturbing is this line, "what has seemed inevitable". I don't care to choose sides. More than enough blame. My frustration is that this is going according to script. This isn't leadership, it is pride. Listen to the players. They are avenging a loss from 2004-05. Listen to Bettman, he is correcting mistakes made in the last CBA. No creativity. No accountability. No care. Just pride. As a fan, today isn't where my voice matters. Yet whenever the CBA is signed, then the power shifts. Both sides want whats fair, and so do I. My plan is to not engage the NHL on any level for the exact amount of games that they miss. Just imagine if a movement could begin with fans in each city doing likewise. No live games, and no NHL merchandise once they are back for the same length of time they now CHOOSE to miss.

I am still sommewhat optomistic we won't miss too many games thid year. Only reason for that is that the previous lockout happened because the players didn't want to give in to having a salary cap. This time its squarely around the division of money. A much simpler thing to negotiate over. Many people on here have mentioned how this lockout will hurt the league. I think the main reason for that is because this time around the fans won't have something major to be excited about once the league is up and running again. Last time the league implemented a ton of new rules to make the game more exciting which drew plenty of fans back. On top of that we had the pleasure of watching new stars like Crosby, Ovechkin and Malkin kick starting their careers. This time there won't be anything that exciting. Which means it will take much longer for the league to recover. There won't be a need for any sort of "fan strike". One thing I don't get is why the players are so fixated on this "new" system they are suggesting. The old system worked very very well for them. Why not just propose a 50-50 split as its clearly what the nhl is trying to get. That would barely but a dent in their wallets. I started out more on the players side now I see them as being very closed minded. They aren't even trying to negotiate. Its just sad

As the tennis & golf season wraps, I'm usually pretty damn excited for the NHL and NBA to start... Looks like it'll be one less sport this year. Owners need to stop giving out multi-million dollar contracts! If the players want to leave else where for more money, let them walk. I'd rather have a player here who wants to be here to WIN than have a player stay for the money. Good money doesn't equal a Stanley Cup; Rangers, Sharks, Leafs. Players need to remember that.

The thing that's frustrating is that I and everyone here on this great site plus millions more have waited very patiently after mid June. We've been through those 40 degree days during that time and scrounged for any bit of hockey news during the off season, and I'll admit it was quite busy, all with the Suter/ Parise signings, Nash potentially arriving to Ottawa, etc. Now that we're inching closer to what was supposed to be training camp then pre-season, we are told days before the deadline that there will be no hockey, even if we all saw this coming. I'm sure a huge part of our lives have been removed, depending on how much the NHL is apart of your life like it is for me. I say that because I actually record games and store them away for any past significant moments during the Senators' season (ie: Cheechoo's 1st goal as a Sen, Milan's 1st career hat trick, etc.). So yeah, you might say I am a little disappointed. Here's hoping we get a delayed season, even if they play 50 games. P.S. If anyone is interested in trading for Sens games, please let me know. I have a list and are always looking for any historical games from the past.
There's nothing else to be then dissapointed, no chance I watch any of the stupid American sports, so i guess its hockey or nothing. We were just getting good, and these ppl have to take the sport we love away from us.

My wife gave birth to our daughter this past week, so I think I can find ways to fill the time that I would have spent watching Senators games! But when the lockout is over, she'll be cheering them on with me in the Senators onesies I bought her! Hahaha! Boo lockout. Go Sens GG!

Not a smart move by players or owners, I don't bitch about the big money they make but this is just pure greed on both side especially the players. I would love to make 600,000 a year to play a sport I love, would you like to make 600k a year or more don't even get me started on the ones that make more than that and are bitching in this process. Greed pure and simple
