A friend invited me to see him play wednesday evening. Given that a lot of Swedes were also working that night, i had a suspicion that someone else would also attend. Sure 'nuff, I had a close encounter of the Alfie kind! Cherry on the ice cream sundae of a great evening. I was so blinded by 11's radiance, Erik K was probably also in his entourage and I missed him altogether.

Just wanted to point out that A) I love the Turris deal and think it will be a steal. I am of course really excited to see some of our prospects etc but Turris is someone I am very excited to see this year (provided there is one) B) Also wanted to point out that it is not just a loss of jobs but there is a lot of Money some local charities counted on during the season from 50/50 sales etc. Children At Risk (I have been a member for years) is one of them that sends many volunteers to the games to sell 50/50 tickets and without that money, the amount of services for Autistic children will get cut etc. and I am sure there are others.... When you think of the big picture, this lockout has a major impact locally

The Turris deal is him getting slightly more money in the 1st year, to then be a steal in the following 4 years. But if he even starts showing some more of that promise this coming year then he could be a steal for all 5 years. Great move by both the team and Turris, who loves Ottawa and the chance they have given him to get out of that Phoenix hell hole!

This comment was by a Philly blogger on Hockeybuzz re: AHL rules of eligibility. --------------- --------- If there's no CBA in place, the current waiver rules would not be enforceable until there's a new agreement reached between the NHL and NHLPA. So it wouldn't be a question of whether the post-entry-leve l contract players would have to pass through waivers. Something that WILL remain in place, though, is the AHL's development rule. The rule states: Of the 18 skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a regular-season game, at least 13 must be qualified as "development players." Of those 13, 12 must have played in 260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL, IHL and European elite leagues), and one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season. --------------- ------------

I do really like the deal...But looking at it as a what have you done for me so far it is overpayment, and people saying so aren't wrong. I think by the end of this season people will be saying it is a steal though. For sure they aren't wrong. When I first saw the deal I was honestly very surprised. I wasn't just surprised that Murray gave him a 5 year contract already, but I was kind of shocked that Turris himself wanted this deal. There's a possibility that Turris is worth more than 3.5 mill after this season and every year of that new contract. I think that IS what surprised people most. Considering he's only had a year to show what can he can do here, and not a full year at that, has people wondering. But, signing a 5 year shows commitment by the Sens. Sure, we could have signed him to 2 years, but giving that extra term probably allowed for a smaller contract value overall which is a win in both directions.

This was an awesome signing by Murray yesterday. A lot of outsiders who see this deal will wonder why the hell we just doled out $3.5 million a year over 5 years for a 12 goal scoring, 29 point player, but anyone who regularly watches Turris play will know that once this contract kicks in, 3.5 million per season for this guy may be an absolute steal. Now Turris will be able to hit the ice next season without the distraction of signing a new contract. He'll know that management and the coaching staff have all the confidence in the world in him and that he's expecting to be a major part of this team for years to come.

When you think about this HRR stuff it trully is mind boggling. I realize the players ARE the nhl however they are very well compensated with guaranteed contracts PLUS perfrmance bonuses. I see no reason they should get 50% of revenues. The owners own the business and should get 100% of it. No matter if its hockey related or otherwise. Its no wonder proffesional teams struggle to make a profit when they have to pay their players millions and on top of that give them 50% of their revenues. I just never understood that concept

Thought of something intriguing while reading today's 30 in 30 on the Bruins on nhl.com. This is the last year on their contracts with: Seguin, Lucic, Horton, and Marchand. So 4 of their top 6 forwards will be looking for new contracts, that the bruins may not be able to give out to all of them considering they have the highest salary in the league atm (about $68 million). With Rask expected to carry most of the starts for the season since he has an unproven backup maybe there is a deal to be had for one of those forwards? Something like: OTT: Bishop and a 2014 1st round pick for BOS:Marchand Thoughts?

One reason I really want a season is for Turris to have a full training camp with our team as well as a full season to develop and gain confidence. Many people here were saying that a lockout or shortened season would help our prospects develop stress free for a while. While I agree this is the case for many I see it being a major defecit to some guys like Turris and Cowen. Yes Cowen can play in Bingo but he's already been there and proved he should be with the big boys. To go back down and play with lesser competition would only hurt his development. He is at the stage where he needs as much ice time as possible against the best possible players. He needs to get used to be able to shut down superstars as well as prove he's capable of being Karlsson's partner eventually. Turris yes played great with us but is also still adgusting to being a consistent scoring threat. Last year I think he struggled at the beginning. Took him about 15 games to get used to the speed of the game as well as a new system. I thought at first he was still in the mindset of always being in a good defensive postition. While that's somewhat a good thing, he needs to be thinking offense first. He eventually did get in to that mind frame and developed serious quemistry with Alfie. I think a full training camp would allow him to be successful right off the bat. I see no reason he couldn't score at least 50 points if the season starts on time. I really think we just locked up a future star

Great signing by the SENS. When I first heard the news figured it would be about 4 million. 3,5 is great! 2nd line center at that price is awesome. Don't worry if a 2nd line center eventually comes down the pipeline with greater potential Turris would make an amazing sniper from the wing. This guy is stoked to be a Senator and I love his attitude!

He's basically Mike Fisher 2.0 at around the same money we paid fisher before we traded him for a pick. Not too enthusiastic about this one...3.5 isn't TOO bad but five years of Turris is a lot, especially with Zibanejad and others pushing behind him. Murray is still far too generous for his own good. Turris is not anything like Fisher. He's waayy more offensive minded. Doesn't play anywhere near the same style. He's a pure 2nd line centre. Fisher was more of a elite 3rd liner as he is perfect for PK but when needed can play PP. And 3.5 is susubtantially less than 4.5. Especially when you consider the upside turris still has. He has a ridiculously high ceiling. On a shitty team who doesn't have a 1st line guy like spezza, turris would be their future 1st liner. Fisher was never that kind of guy

TSN has the latest nhl offer explained pretty well. In my opininion it actually seems more than reasonable. To be honest I was a little surprised when I first read it. There's a salary roll back for the first 3 years and then on the following 3 years there would be an even 50/50 split on revenues. That to me is actually fairly genereous on the nhl's part. I don't see the PA accepting it but if they can scratch off a few more points I think we'll have a deal. And betmann did say this proposal was made in such a way to get both parties on the same page so that legit negotiations can start to take place. That to me is very good news as he is obviously full willing to come down from this offer. It wad more just a realistic starting point. I think now that there's a real offer on the table there is actually still plenty of time to hammer out a deal

PLUS with a salary roll back the number will be even lower I think this guy has potential to be pretty close to a point per game 2nd line centre. Especially with the talent we have coming up to play on his wings. Most teams that have a legit 2nd line centre pay somewhere around 5 million and the 3rd line centre on goof teams make around 3.5.
Settle down children... stop arguing over shit none of us want to see you arguing about. Don't get your labia's in a knot. Great for Turris, great for the Sens. regarding the jobs / layoffs etc - the 67's will be using pre-existing 67's staff primarily - unless you think Jeff Hunt is going to double down on the staff, just because he's got labour costs to just go out and burn away... The fact is that, if you accumulate all of the 7 teams in Canada, quite a lot of income is being lost by the people who rely on the 7 CDN teams for salary and revenue. Think about it - at LEAST 1000 people work at each of the home games, in each of the 7 CDN cities. That's 7000+ people. Then you've got the many bars, restaurants, bus/coach companies, F&B providers, alcohol distribution companies etc. There is A LOT of lost revenue/income for A LOT of people. Good article Chirp

People who work in the finance department for instance, the accountants, the HR people all of those are impacted. To say that in most cases it's only people who utilise income from the Senators as supplemental is completely off base. Notices went out to staff whose positions would be lost during the lock out a number of weeks ago saying their contracts will be terminated on September 15th. The Senators finance division were working on an operating budget for a lock-out season months ago and part of that was identifying which positions would be terminated. It must suck to be working on a budget which actually cuts your own job from under your feet. Two friends of mine who worked in the financial department both left because they knew that come September 15th they would be unemployed.

Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about this...as they just had a fairly substantial job fare....67s still play their home games there, and a fair number of concerts. Hell I just got a management position within hospitality there...like literally within the last 48 hours. If people rely on there as their primary income they could be in trouble....but the majority of positions are really not support your family positions....Al l that being said, even losing supplementary income for people does suck. Just wish they would cut the BS and essentially meet in the middle and if need be just make it yet another short term deal.

I really think that there will be a major disconnect soon if this isn't solved. These people(players and owners) are so disconnected from the real world. Players make more than the most influential people in society - Doctors-Lawyers -Professors-etc etc. To me its only natural that owners should make money - its their money out there - they own the store! If the players are unhappy - fine strike do whatever you want but in some markets the fans won't come back. The players can choose to play where they want - that's their leverage - when a significant player or 2 bolt to the KHL - you'll see Bettman and his gang change their tune. Solve the problem by moving Phoenix and right there money goes back into the owners pockets to start with. Bettman tries to make hockey FLY in non Hockey markets - when was the last time we saw Phoenix or Florida on NBC anyways. They always show Pitt-Philly-Ny- and Wash. This league is turning into one big FARCE! GO SENS GO! SERENITY NOW!
