Team Canada has 10 defenseman with them. I assume they will rotate in and out of the lineup. They are using all 3 goalies in this series... It's now 2-1 for Canada. It's great watching hockey. Love watching the World Juniors and this is akin to that... Great young players. Congrats to the Woman's Soccer team for winning Bronze. I hope Japan beats the asses of the USA team.

So I am not the only sane person here....thank you you get pretty upset when someone has a different opinion than you eh? IMO adding Bouwmeester to our lineup makes us better than if we added Ryan. It's a moot point anyway, Gonchar would NEVER waive his no trade clause to go to Calgary. BUt I do agree with one thing, I wouldn't include Bishop in that trade. So you agree? lol....and no I don't get upset couldn't care less if fans want to make a horrible move. I would on the other hand if Murray did. My main point is including Bishop would be absolutely retarded, I would rather have the goalie depth then Jaybo, I honestly wouldn't likely support a Gonchar for Jaybo straight up...the cap relief from him coming off the books after this year is more appealing to me.

So I am not the only sane person here....thank you you get pretty upset when someone has a different opinion than you eh? Jay B isnt as bad as you think he is. How much of his game did you watch this year? so what he isn't scoring off the charts. Put him with Karlsson and that is guaranteed to change plus you get a very solid d-man who easily logs 25 minutes a game. 6.8M for a top pairing d-man who logs 25 minutes a game is about the going rate. So what he hasn't made the playoffs, like it is his fault alone. He is not a game changer. And maybe he is slightly overpaid but only for two more years. He improves our d leaps and bounds if he comes here and doesn't cost us out of anything we'd want down the road. IMO adding Bouwmeester to our lineup makes us better than if we added Ryan. It's a moot point anyway, Gonchar would NEVER waive his no trade clause to go to Calgary. BUt I do agree with one thing, I wouldn't include Bishop in that trade.

pleaseeeeeeeeee eee trade gonchar, every time i watch him play he plays like he doesn't give a shit. i obviously would take j-bow in a second if we had the chance, he's a great skater and can play the big minutes. in the end, don't we need some cap.. ? so j-bow wouldn't be so bad as for the flyers... i wouldn't mind meszaros coming back pr getting simmonds but that would probably never happen lol

I hear the idea of trading Gonchar at the deadline but I would rather have another player learning the position all season, if we keep him until deadline we will be tempted to keep him past that. Everyone is talking about what we would lose in Gonchar but what we would gain in the trade. I would take a top line forward and give a young D guy a shot all day long for Gonchar + we would not lose cap hit if we have cap coming back.

We still dont know what most of them are capable of in the pro game like Zibby/ Silfver/ Stone would be playing their first pro season. We go through this season with what we have and then next summer we should look at trading or signing a big piece ( Perry pls)

Going for Corey Perry. Did you ask yourself first Are they gonba resign him before the deadline? What would be a asking price for a rental player? Would he resign and committe to the orgasination and the city after the season Or playoff are over? I for one would not give a shit load that his on a contract year that for sure. Something like 1st pick ( depending on are position ) something like 6th overall and down A prospect Roster player

Well his cap hit could help us reach the floor, and the fact that he's 28 means he could easily have a rebound year with a team that actually has a system of play in place like Ottawa (unlike Calgary). He's also pretty sound defensively and would set a better example of responsible play than Gonchar at this point in Gonchar's career. I think it would be worth it to give him a shot, but only if its Gonchar and a pick no higher than the 3rd round.

With Alfie likely only a season away from retirement, it would be an interesting scenario to see if Murray would consider going after Corey Perry, who's only 27 yrs old and he's going to be a UFA after this season, with no no-trade/moveme nt clause. He's a solid RW who can come to Ottawa with experience and move right to the top of the list of consideration for captaincy after Alfie. Problem is that a ton of teams will be going after him unless given an extension by Bob sometime soon. Somehow the rumours are out there that they might consider moving he, Ryan, and Getzlaf ???

Seriously Gonchar(makes 5.5 contract over after this season...so deadline trade bait...maybe a 2nd round pick if we are lucky?) + Bishop(makes 650k so nothing...25 yrs old, considered a very good goalie prospect again contract is up after this season so potential trade bait) For Jaybo(makes 6 680 000, scores less than Gonchar, has another year at that rate) so we essentially replace a contract we are about to get rid of for a more expensive less effective player and keep him for a year. Seriously, someone break down why we are even discussing this trade? I honestly can not come up with a single valid reason to move Gonchar/Bishop for him.

The only thing that would be affected if we traded one of our goalie prospects is our AHL team. We drafted a couple more goalies this summer. Those guys will be in Binghamton within 2 or 3 yrs. We can't NHL-ready goalies rot on the sideline when we already have a solid #1 signed for 3 more years. We need to use that extra asset to shore up our defense.

Why are we supposed to make the playoffs this year? According to just about everyone but me we had no chance last year and were 2-3 years of rebuild away from seriously being playoff ready. Why would making it in year 1 mean you have to make it in year 2 as well? The goal is still the long term development of the overall young core, so if playing a Ceci, Borowiecki or Wiercioch a bit more than expected in exchange for improvement at forward or a longer term prospect, is the cost, I'm all for it. I think we'll challenge for the playoffs either way this year, but if we miss out for some reason, it's not a disaster on the rebuild path.

Probably some of you will think i'm crazy, but i like Gonchar. He had a terrible year in 2010-2011 like the rest of the team for sure, but he had a good season this year overall. Yes he made some mistakes and he is not fast, but when you log 28 minutes on the ice every game, that's simply normal. What he brings to the team?? - Leadership - Power Play - Help young defencemen He has only 1 year left on his contract and trading him for a second round pick would make the sens awful on the blue line. I don't want a kid to take the Gonchar's minutes on the ice because we are not supposed to finish last this year. We are suppose to be in a playoff hunt. We will not be in any hunt with Ceci and Boro in the line up this year!! So just relax and chill out...I know some of you are Gonchar's hater because he make 5.5 millions, but we are under the cap space with him in the line up and i prefer to have him in the sens jersey than a «no where pick» who will help us in 4 years. Compare Kovalev with Gonchar and your love for the russian defenceman will quickly increase. Gonch want to play here, choose the Sens and want to help the team to be better again this year.

Bouwmeester is an offensive defenseman that was playing in a defensive minded system. What would be his upside playing with the Sens where it is an up-tempo rush the puck system. He is a good skater that may benefit in this type of game play. It would certainly get the Sens over the cap floor... It would be for 2 yrs.. so nothing really long term... a stop gap until Ceci is ready?

. I'm not a fan of Gonchar... Never have been and I never will be, but people undervalue what he brings to this team. If we trade Gonchar we are left with Karlsson as our one and only offensive defenseman. Cowen, Phillips, Methot, Borowiecki are all rather one dimensional, stay at home guys. Cowen will likely develop until more than that but it will take time. Anyone who knows hockey will tell you need a decent powerplay, strong breakouts and a good transition game to have success in the NHL. This is where Gonchar helps our team. I only support a Gonchar trade now if we can replace him with an equal or better player that brings offense from the back end. Someone like Yandle or Bouwmeester would be awesome in my opinion, preferably Yandle. If we trade Gonchar, Murray will spend the entire season looking for another offensive defenseman to replace him with.

Very good article. I like what he said that Ottawa is a great city... too bad more NHL players don't realize that... 6'4" -- 230 lbs? Wow.. combine him with Ben Blood 6'3 and listed as 212.. Then Eric Gryba at 6'4" and 222 lbs.. Also Borowiecki and Methot... If these guys do make the NHL wow.. what a tough defense added to Karlsson, Cowen, Weircoch, Ceci... That has the potential to be a highly skilled and one tough mean in your face defense in the future. I know in the immediate future we say there is no depth on defense.. but 4 or 5 yrs down the road.. there could well be...

Yeah dont trade that guy, he is exactly what the wannabe sens fans our looking for. A name, "But it's Gonchar" "GONCHAR!!!" he has a coool name and he was once good so lets keep him. His name is so cool and familiar that he might be good on the top line with Spezza. Yeee hawwwwww Lets resign mike fisher based on his smile, seems like a good move right fans?

I'd say keep him until the deadline regardless, his value can't be less than it is now. Besides, it is a contract year. What do you mean? His value can easily decrease either through injury or a further noticeable decrease in his skill level. Right now, while it's summer time, people forget that he was not one of the main catalysts to our big run last year. His value is pretty good right now, the only way it goes higher is if he stays healthy and performs better than he did last year, leading up to the deadline. Personally I'd rather not have to wait and hope that everything goes perfectly for him. Unless you name is Glen Sather, people don't forget how a player was last season. Gonchar had a good season last year. I thought he was great in the playoffs. If Ottawa trades him now, that is a HUGE gap to fill. Especially salary wise where we would be around 9 mill under the cap.... This means we'd either have to sign a retarded contract (Doan) or we'd be taking back salary which would clutter our team anyway. I just don't think he gets moved now and that he is underestimated in fans minds. That is all.

But it's not a stretch to think that Malkin could walk away from the Pens. He plays his best when Crosby is out... so any other team he would go to he would arguably be the best player... but yes it is a stretch by a long shot to think Ottawa would be in the running for Malkin.. but don't underestimate his feelings for Gonchar.. it's akin to Karlsson and Alfie...

Gonchar wants to play in Sochi in 2014.. So he needs to play 2 more NHL seasons... 1 with Ottawa. In order for him to get a decent contract in the NHL next year should be motivation enough for him to have a good year this next season. What if Malkin wants to walk away from Pitts in 2 yrs as he doesn't want to play 2nd fiddle to Crosby his entire career... signing Gonchar -- may help if Ottawa makes a bid for Malkin as a UFA... It may be worth it to keep Gonchar past this season, even if he has declined, in order to get a shot at one of the best players in the game.. put him on Spezza's wing.. and holy cow... Crazy thinking?

He's included pretty often on this site by posters. The difference you need to realize is that he's normally not included when talked about for this coming year's roster because his chance of making it is about 1%. He had a tough injury riddled season last year and will need a bit more time before he's ready to start making a run at the NHL roster. Most posters do include him though when talking about our core in 2-3 years. Also though, don't forget, he was the high risk high reward pick of that draft, so that already means he's not guaranteed to become an NHL player.

This. Not only may his value skyrocket around that time, it will also allow us to figure out how we are doing in the standings at that point in time and possibly need to keep him for a run. Exactly! At peak value, he may very well land us a lower 1st round pick. And realistically, this team is more in need of defensive depth than offensive depth. Our prospect cupboard is loaded at forward positions, but not so much on the blue line. I don't see the point in losing Gonchar for another forward. Of course, I'd be interested in Ryan, but less so in Simmonds etc. Wouldn't that just create a bigger problem in 2-3 years when Zibanejad, Noesen, Silfv, Stone, etc are roster players. Teams don't carry 4 scoring lines. Well keep in mind not all of these prospects listed here will become top sixers, and even if they all did let's say, since when does having an excess of top six forwards pose a problem? Haha. Worst case scenario trade the excess forward for whatever you're lacking. Problem solved. I'm just worried Gonchar will have a crap year and we get absolutely nothing for him, at least right now he could peak the interest of the Flyers, and maybe help with our rebuild by getting us a solid return.
